I am starting slower, pacing myself out. I rush and pump out a million chapters, but rarely show... I am learning. Mika is the best benchmark as he is my favorite story.
I realized that medical is too involved to just learn without guidance. You need a real mentor, but other things not so much. I had this idea from Might Dai.
Age Eleven- One Month before graduation.
"I am done, Katsuki." Mika said, shivering as he moved the last of the sixteen boxes to backroom. Mika had been working for Katsuki, a local grocery store owner, for about two years part time despite being in the Ninja Academy. He worked every tuesday and thursday and Sunday moving boxes and cleaning shop. He had saved up a pretty penny doing so, in addition to his orphan stipend.
Katsuki, a heavy set man with blonde hair, nodded. "You did good, kid. Here's your pay."
Only allowed to work under the table, as it were, Mika made poor pay, but it was enough for him at the time. He had goals to achieve, and this would play a part.
"Thank you. I'll see myself out."
And with that he was gone, hurrying to another part of the village. It was the Shinobi center, where they sold Kunai, Scrolls and swords! Weapons of all kinds really, and Mika had goals in that field.
All too aware of his small size, gods he was even shorter than Naruto, Mika vowed to overcome it. You could only develop so much physical power as a kid, but a sharp blade was a sharp blade. He got the idea, oddly enough from Kiba. When the idiot bragged about his new dog Akamaru, Mika realized how... out of the loop he was.
Hinata Hyuuga, with her Gentle Fist and the Byakugan. Shikamaru, Choji and Ino, members of the Ino-Shika-Cho trio clans! Sasuke, the last Uchiha with the legendary Sharingan and Firestyle. Shino of the Aburame clan, who he read were all users of powerful insects. And finally Kiba, with his powerful senses and of course Akamaru!
Mika realized that his classmates were shoe ins to graduate, and beyond that excel as ninja. They had clan training, resources and powerful tried and true powers. Mika had none of that... he needed an edge, even if it was just a small one to start.
Most Taijutsu scrolls were set in clan compounds, genjutsu was too dangerous to play with on his own, and he just lacked the reserves to cast big ninjutsu plus there were no open scrolls on anything he could get ahold of for any of those three outside of the library which was only open for Genin and above.
Kenjutsu however, so deeply underestimated, had scrolls freely sold at local stores alongside weapons of various sizes. Mika knew this, his research told him as much. After two years of saving he had enough money for a few serious purchases.
Walking into the store, he walked straight to the other front desk. "Giili, I need a Tanto, weights and any scroll you have on using said tanto." He handed the man his Academy ID, which would allow him to buy said equipment.
Giilo, a balding man with blue eyes, nodded. "Sure, can you afford it?' As it turned out, yes Mika could, barely though... Swords and Scrolls were expensive, even at this second hand shop. " Mind you, kid, the scroll is not the best. It is a generic style, used by most of the few tanto wielders that live in the village. For anything better, you'll have to get into the library or training from a clan."
Mika sighed. "I am all too aware, sir, thank you. I just need the basics, a foothhold to get me started."
"Well, that much you got here."
"Thank you " Gripping his tanto, which had a gray ribbon wrapped around, Mika smiled and left the shop, pleased and purposeful. Finally, he was taking steps, greater steps, to prove what no one else seemed to realize...
That he was just as capable as those lucky clan kids... blessed with bloodlines and training. He would show them all and this tanto... it was the first step to greatness and beyond.
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was a joy to write.
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
Mika.
