"Ah! Let's get some refreshed makeup, then a few more shots!"
"Okay," Senji responded with far less enthusiasm than the designer bounding across the room. She was in the middle of another modeling job, which had picked up considerably lately. Maybe as an apology of sorts, Mitsuki had been racking up jobs for her to do. The pay was usually good, along with other perks like getting to keep the customized clothing.
"Oh, wow! You're really good at both parts," one of the makeup artists praised her work, while tidying up the blueish eyeliner Senji wore. There was an outfit change, to a uniform-like shirt with wing slits in the back. That meant Senji would be switching out her tail for a large set of wings, which required a bit of focus. She changed out of the skirt and slid into a much more comfortable pair of pants. Then it was back under the lights to finish up, where she was given various accessories like a hooded coat and a backwards cap.
"Perfect! You're all done! Keep anything you like from today, too."
The designer and photoshoot director clapped Senji on the back before heading off to give instructions to the editors. Senji decided to keep the wing-slit shirt, since it would be helpful to have something more covered up for winter. She slid on the hoodie she'd brought with her, checking the time on her phone. There were a few messages from All Might, stating that he was running somewhat late to pick her up after the other two at the licensing exam facility. Senji texted him another location to pick her up from, and tied her hoodie around her waist to take flight. It had been some time since she was able to fly over the city, and she found herself missing the view from up above.
Gliding down onto a rooftop, she heard a thundering and wet sound from down the street. She pulled her headphones down, scanning around for the source of the sound. She spotted it quickly, thanks to a series of screams echoing out as a huge wave of water crashed toward her. It sounded like some petty thugs were snatching purses up with the waves, and Senji watched as a couple of bystanders were sucked into the water. Senji tore off her hoodie and crouched on the edge of the rooftop, waiting for the perfect moment as she formed her feathery wings. The wave came roaring past, and she dove down into the ice cold water.
She made fins, slipping into her water rescue mode, and pulled a small child along with his distraught mother out of the water. Her scales switched immediately to wings once out of the water, and she flew the two drenched civilians toward the back of the rushing torrent. She placed them down and rushed back into the waves.
…
"This car's so cramped," Bakugo complained. Todoroki sat beside him, with their luggage sandwiched between the two. All Might laughed nervously from the driver's seat, knowing full well that it was only going to get more phone buzzed with a string of texts, which he slowed to a stop to check.
"Ah, that's…looks like we're going to have to do some work first," the pro muttered. He pulled around, off the original path toward Senji's modeling agency.
"Tch! Taking it easy with some pictures while we have to retake shit," Bakugo grumbled to himself.
A roaring wave bore down the road to their right, and the two newly licensed heroes spotted Senji diving down from the sky. She flew up with feathery wings and dove straight into the water. Keeping them feather-shaped, she let loose some scales to gather the stolen goods and pull them out. She also spotted a civilian, and pulled them out in a rush. It was a businessman, and he was gasping for air as she flew him out of the way of Todoroki's ice. Bakugo used his quirk against some other villains that were in on the heist, and in just a few minutes it was over. Police arrived and worked with Todoroki to thaw out the wall of ice and gather the thieves.
"Hey, it's you!," the man addressed Senji excitedly once he caught his breath.
"Huh?," her and Bakugo were both confused.
"The wings, they're the same. I saw you flying before, off the roof of my firm," the man continued on, much to Senji's dismay. Bakugo shot her an inquisitive look, but she urged the man to stay quiet and relax until he was checked out. Senji wrapped her coat, which she discarded hurriedly earlier, around his shoulders. Bakugo, with much protest, used his quirk to help warm the man up and dry him off. He was escorted away in an ambulance while Senji gave her version of events to another officer.
"Ah, my coat," she realized too late that her coat was gone. Bakugo was busy shouting at an officer, while Todoroki and All Might were being questioned. She pulled her arms and tail tightly around her., starting to feel the effects of her damp clothing and the chilly wind. She sneezed loudly, cursing under her breath.
"Idiot," Bakugo had finished his report and shuffled over to her. He threw his scarf at her, which she accepted happily. That was the extent of his kindness in this moment, though. A few noisy reporters were moving in, and he barked at them. Senji found Todoroki and tugged at his sleeve, a habit she'd developed while relying on his quirk over the summer months.
"Cold," she spat between shivering spells. Todoroki's expression softened a little, and he used his fire side to help dry out her clothes. That earned some attention from bystanders, and a louder rant at the reporters from Bakugo. All Might gathered the students up and they loaded into the car, with the former number one hero apologizing profusely for a certain boy's rudeness.
The ride home was long and quiet. Senji had drifted off to sleep, leaning against Todoroki's shoulder while he was still warm. Bakugo grew more and more irritated, despite himself. He tole himself it was because the girl's tail kept flipping up against his leg, but he knew that wasn't it.
"Stop letting her abuse your quirk," he grumbled at the other boy.
"It's fine," Todoroki dismissed him and scrolled through his phone. He didn't seem fazed at all by the situation, which only made Bakugo more disgruntled.
"No it ain't," the blonde argued under his breath.
"Mmrrrp," Senji made a weird sound in her sleep, prompting a confused look from the half-hot boy. Bakugo stifled a laugh at the sound. He knew the cause, but no one else had noticed that he'd grabbed hold of her tail and held it close. He activated his own quirk just a little, not liking how cold and damp the scales felt. The rest of the ride was dead silent, with the other boy falling asleep himself as Bakugo let his thoughts wander. While thinking, he ended up tracing over some of the scars on Senji's tail with his fingers and prompting a few more quiet murmurings.
…
"Ha! They cut you out completely," Sero teased Bakugo. A few students were gathered in the common area, watching the interview that Todoroki and Bakugo had recorded after stopping the villain the same night they got their licenses.
"Shut up!," Bakugo yelled back, losing his temper a little too quickly.
"You're so noisy," Senji whined next to him. She yawned while he directed his tirade at her, with Kaminari playing with her tail again.
"Why're you even here," Bakugo snapped at her. Senji answered with a quiet sneeze, and a shrug. Bakugo pushed at her, somewhat gently, "If you're sick get away from me."
"I'm not, shut up," the girl swatted his hands away and grabbed one of the premade sandwiches off the table in front of them.
"You were there, too. Why didn't you do an interview?," Kirishima asked, making her choke on her food for a minute.
"They did ask for you, too," Todoroki chimed in from across the table. Senji cursed his obliviousness and shot a dirty look at him.
"Didn't wan-Uh. Had work."
"Man, you really do stay busy huh? Seriously, when do you sleep?," Kaminari asked her again. It was getting harder and harder to deflect this particular concern her classmates shared.
