Common theories on the universe state that there are far too many variables in life for a single unified existence to be sustainable. Multi-dimensional theory of this sort, while overly dramatized in most recent developments of science fiction does get several things right. In everything we do, choices dancing around us, closing off certain versions of the future for good[1] and opening new ones. The choice to click onto this specific tab of the Internet, for example.[2]

In one universe, the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale step into a plant-filled Bentley and a light-filled lift, respectively. In three others, three slightly different cards fall in a slightly different way in the same Ineffable Game.[3]

Spin. Shuffle. Slide. Three cards flick first this way and then that, whirling into one formation and then another. One card vanishes back into the deck and another flips out onto the table. Eyes on the cards. Are you watching carefully? Round and round they go...
