Chapter One: Who Is The Red Poncho
"Yep. It is truly sad how y'all blew it." JP says as the group is inside the stump.
"We blew it!?" Omar and Kelsey ask in surprise as they look at JP.
"I didn't see you doing anything!" Kelsey says.
"I keep telling y'all I'm here for comic relief. Not to mix it up." JP says.
"Oh I'll mix you up!" Kelsey shouts as she grabs JP by his shirt.
"Let me get my spoon. My mixing spoon." Omar says as he walks toward JP.
"You wouldn't hit a pacifist would you?" JP asks worriedly.
"Come on you two. Leave him be. Besides nothing we can do about it now except try to prevent it in the future." Alexis says.
"Alexis is right. Beating up JP won't solve anything." Craig says as he pulls out a chart of some kids.
"You sure?" Kelsey asks.
"This lack of teamwork is what got us into this mess in the first place!" JP shouts.
"Uh JP you may wanna hush before you stick your foot in your mouth any further." Alexis says as she looks up at JP from where she is laying in wolf form.
"You'd be smart to listen to my sister." Omar says as he glares at JP.
"Humans." Alexis thinks as she shakes her head.
"Look someone else is after the heart of the forest. Someone dangerous. And we need to figure out who. So we're gonna solve this the same way all great mysteries are solved." Craig says as he smiles.
"And how's that?" Alexis asks.
"With dim lighting and a black and white filter. So this Red Poncho as the kids in the creek are calling him has got to be someone who's got a bone to pick with us. So check out my beef list. I've assembled a line up of all the kids we've ever had beef with and all the kids we continue to have beef with. These are suspects. Let's catch a super thief. Hater number one Wolfgang aka Top Hat Tom." Craig says as he points to Wolfgang's photo.
"Yeah but I don't think it would be him Craig. Yeah he swore revenge against Omar at the Candy Bar but he's not exactly the most agile or coordinated. I mean this Red Poncho is extremely agile and coordinated. He backflipped over us and had some good aim with those arrows. Plus Wolfgang swears revenge on everyone for literally the stupidest things." Alexis says.
"Alexis is right. Can't be Wolfgang. Just doesn't seem possible with his background." Omar says as Craig marks off Wolfgang.
"Very true. That brings us to the reddest kid in the creek. Big Red! And it ain't just because she's red. And nevermind. Anyway her motive I beat her in the sucker pucker challenge. To this day she's still sour about it." Craig says as he laughs and sees the others aren't laughing with him.
"Can't be Big Red either. Like Alexis already said the Red Poncho has really good aim. So it can't be her. Plus they're taller than she is." Kelsey says as Craig marks off Big Red.
"Can't ignore the facts. So what about public frenemy number one? Roger! Motive? Unclear." Craig says.
"Well it wouldn't exactly be too far out there. I mean kid is pretty weird. Weirder than I am and I'm a wolf shifter. That kid definitely does anything and everything for the strangest reasons and I don't even think he can ever explain why he does them. He just does them." Alexis says as Omar nods.
"Yeah I agree with Alexis. Not about the her being weird though. You're not weird. Just different. Though that Roger is certainly a weird one." Omar says as Alexis smiles at him.
"Yeah Roger isn't it. He's too busy being a culinary genius." JP says as he holds up a bowl of leaves and other things as Alexis gives a look of disgust.
"Disgusting JP." Alexis says as she shakes her head in disgust as Craig marks off Roger.
"Okay not Roger. Now onto the shade queen herself. Eliza of the Tea Timers. He motive? We discovered she was the thief mastermind Lady Tea and ruined her evil plans. But let's face it. Eliza's too lazy to be the Red Poncho." Craig says as he crosses off Eliza.
"Well now what? We've ruled out every suspect. What's with those looks?" Omar asks as he sees the others giving nervous looks.
"Well we haven't ruled out everyone." Craig says as he shows a picture of Maya.
"Wait. Maya!? Oh come on!" Omar says as JP turns on the lights.
"Well yeah. You did tell her about the cubes and the Heart of the Forest." JP says.
"Plus she's got skills on the battlefield and doesn't have the best track record." Kelsey says.
"That's a lie! She's great at both track and field!" Omar says angrily as he looks at Kelsey.
"She's the only person that would really qualify to be the Red Poncho and she has done things like this in the past Omar. Even you gotta admit that. I know it's not ideal but she's the only one left." Alexis says.
"Keun Sup or Jackie would also qualify! I mean you hang around the former champions of the creek! And not to mention Secret Keeper who was able to pull of all kinds of things when he was stealing for Eliza. What about them?" Omar asks annoyedly.
"Omar come on. And second they got motives." Alexis says as Omar sighs.
"Okay look I get it. She's done some sketchy stuff in the past but she's changed now." Omar says.
"Look Omar I get it. Maya's been super cool with me lately and I wanna believe she's changed too. Let's just get some proof to make sure and then we can rule her out." Craig says.
"Yo she's at baseball practice now. We can scope her while she's there and then you'll see she's not the Red Poncho." Omar says.
*Timeskip*
"Hey look there's Maya." Omar says as the group watches Maya miss two balls.
"Well she's still got that fiery spirit." Craig says before the group sees Maya hit a home run and take off running before she jumps and flips over another girl to land on a base and avoid being tagged out.
"That flip." Omar says as the group looks at each other.
"Its the same one the Red Poncho did." Alexis says.
*Timeskip*
"As much as I hate to admit it from the looks of it Maya is the only one in the creek that could pull off being the Red Poncho." Craig says as he points at Maya's picture.
"It just doesn't make sense. Things were just getting good between us. Why would she betray our friendship like that again!?" Omar asks angrily.
"Sorry Omar. But I think this we'll help. Sometimes what we think is not what we know you know? And what we've seen can not be what we've seen." JP says as he continues to ramble on.
"You know what? I'm gonna solve this mystery. Matter fact I'll text her right now. Yo Maya you wanna meet up and talk? She's responding. Yo! Glad you hit me up. I wanna tell you something. She probably wants to tell me she's not the Red Poncho." Omar says nervously.
"Okay bro." JP says as everyone looks at Omar.
*Timeskip*
"Guys you sure about this? I mean yes Maya does fit the description but what are the chances we might be wrong?" Alexis asks as she is hiding with JP and Craig while Kelsey is hiding nearby as Omar is waiting a ways away for Maya.
"We don't have a choice Alexis. Who else could it be? You said it yourself. Maya is the only qualified person." Craig says as Alexis looks at him.
"Hey!" A voice shouts as the group sees Omar and Maya stuck in a jet as the Red Poncho is flying on some drones as he grabs a cube from Maya before Kelsey comes out and attacks him.
"I got it!" Kelsey shouts as she picks up the cube.
"Yes! Nice!" Craig and JP shout.
"Kelsey watch out!" Alexis shouts as Kelsey gets pinned by a toy truck.
"You can hit but you can't run!" JP shouts as he, Alexis and Craig run over to in front of Kelsey.
"Whatever!" The Red Poncho shouts as he backflips into a toy car and leaves.
"Thanks JP." Omar says as JP takes the net off him and Maya.
"You okay Kels?" Craig says as he and Alexis help Kelsey up.
"Duh. And I got the cube." Kelsey says before Maya takes the cube from her.
"This is mine. I didn't give this to you. What the heck man!? You said you wanted to be friends again Omar! I thought we were doing okay. That we were cool like we used to be. But instead you think I'm some kind of supervillain running around in a stupid red poncho!" Maya says angrily as she looks at Maya.
"Maya I-" Omar then gets cut off by Maya.
"I really wanted to make things right but if you're not gonna trust me then what's the point?" Maya asks angrily before she runs off.
"Maya!" Omar shouts.
"That did not go as expected. I'm sorry Omar. You were right." Alexis says as she goes over to Omar.
"Well if Maya's not the Red Poncho then who is?" Kelsey asks.
"Those drones... The Red Poncho is-" Craig then gets cut off by JP.
"Maybe the Red Poncho is a drone and it is Maya controlling the drone and all them machines." JP says.
"JP I think we've already established that it's not Maya." Alexis says.
"No it's not Maya. The Red Poncho is Xavier!" Craig says.
"You mean the kid who just did backflips over us is the same Xavier that always made everyone else do his work for him?" Kelsey asks.
"But how is that possible?" Alexis asks.
"Who cares how. We gotta get that cube. Come on!" Craig says as the group runs after Xavier before spotting him as he gets away.
"He got away." Alexis says.
"We can't let him beat us to the heart of the forest." Craig says.
