"So, what do you have to say for yourself?" Sojiro asked Akira as he looked down towards the ground. "You've been here for only two days and a half, and you already missed half of your first day at school! If you keep causing trouble, then it won't matter how much effort I put in to help, you'll be sent off to jail! Is that what you want?"
Akira remained quiet for a few tense moments as he looked his guardian in the eyes. After a brief bout of silence, he let out a sigh and spoke. "I'm sorry." He began. "I got lost looking for my way there, and the trains were running late thanks to the incident yesterday. It won't happen again." In truth, there was a lot more that happened to the young man than simply getting lost, but there wasn't any way to explain such a thing to Sojiro without sounding like a maniac. Well, more of a maniac than he already seems to everyone.
"It'd better not." Sojiro said in a displeased manner before he heard the pay phone ring. "Gimme a sec, we're not done."
Picking up the phone, the bearded guardian of caffeine began to speak to the caller. "LeBlanc Cafe, Sojiro Sakura speaking…. Oh, you're this punk's mom? Alright, but just so you know, he already missed half a day of school… I'll let you handle it." He looked over to Akira as he handed the phone to him. "You deal with that, she sounded pretty mad."
Nodding at the warning, Akira took the phone and brought it up to his face. "Hi mom. I'm sorry you had to hear that."
"I'm sure you have a reason for it, but that is still not an excuse to miss your first day at school." He heard his mother speak. "It was difficult enough to find such a place to take you in for your probation, but if someone starts thinking that you're up to no good, then it will just make more problems for you in the long run, especially since you have a record now."
Being reminded of his record made the young man's breath hitch, which was noticed by his mother on the other side of the call. "Akira, what happened? You sound like something happened."
"Well, you see…" Akira began as he rubbed his eyes. "When I got to school, I found out that… someone leaked my record to the school website, and now, everyone knows about it."
"What?" Sojiro asked from behind the counter.
"WHAT?!" Akira's mother yelled loud enough that she was heard by the cafe owner. "What do you mean someone leaked your record?!"
"Mom, hold on, it's nothing to worry about!" Akira pleaded in a panicked tone. "Sure, nobody wants to get close to me because they're scared, but-!"
"Unbelievable! They said that your record was going to be kept a secret! Don't they know what could happen if it leaked out to others?!" His mother began to go on a tangent. "Ugh! I need to have a word with the staff! Just wait for me when I get there."
"Mom, wait, you don't have to-!" Akira's pleas went unheard, for the call ended a few seconds later, the hang-up dial ringing throughout the cafe. The duo of guardian and transfer remained silent, as the fluffy-haired student set the phonepiece down where it belonged. After a few tense moments, Akira turned towards Sojiro, pale as a ghost before speaking. "Don't tell her where I'm gonna be tomorrow."
The Next Day
Sojiro didn't know what to expect as he recalled the warning that Akira gave him yesterday. The reaction that the kid had when he heard that his mother was coming over was nothing short of unusual and worrisome. Sure, it was nerve-wracking to know that your mom was coming over to your school with a complaint, but the way that the kid was acting, he would've thought that his mom had just declared World War 3. Just what kind of woman was the kid's mom to elicit such a reaction? Just how does she treat him to make him that worried?
"So, has anything bad happened recently, Boss?" A customer asked Sojiro from their booth, snapping him from his thoughts. "You seem worried for some reason."
"Oh, no, it's nothing." Sojiro quickly answered. "Just lost in my thoughts, that's all."
"Oh, have you found a gal to settle down with?" The customer jokingly said, earning a chuckle from the coffee guru.
"I wish!" Sojiro laughed out loud before he heard the doorbell ring. Turning to the newcomer, he began to greet them. "Welcome. What would-?" He let out a gasp when he saw who just entered his cafe. Now he understood why Akira was freaking out the previous day.
As Sojiro and the customer were internally panicking, the woman walked over to the bar and looked the cafe owner in the eyes. "Are you Sojiro Sakura?" The woman asked, earning a nod from the man. "Excellent. Would you care to tell me where Shujin Academy is?"
There was only one thought that went through Sojiro's head as he wished Akira luck and told the woman the directions. "Hoo, boy…"
Shujin Academy
To say that Akira was nervous was an understatement. Ever since his mother told him that she was coming over to deal with the school staff about his record being leaked, he tried many options to stop her. From texts, phone calls, to even emails, but nothing was going to stop his mother's wrath. His mind was filled with dread, the situation blowing up further as he felt Arsene's presence panicking within his mindscape. His other self truly was synced up with himself, reacting with absolute terror at the thought of his mother coming to school. All day, he could barely focus on his schoolwork, his mind just repeating the realization of his mother coming over and over again.
"Mr. Kurusu," He heard Kawakami call out, snapping him out of his thoughts as he turned towards his teacher. "A word after class, and I would like for you to concentrate on class, if you will."
"Sorry." He muttered out an apology, his eyes darting across the classroom as he heard the disparaging whispers from the others.
"Dumbass."
"Why'd he even come to school, anyways?"
"I hope he gets kicked out soon."
He really hopes his mom or aunts never hear these comments. He really doesn't want to have to deal with the sheer amount of bloodshed that would occur if they did.
Eventually, the class ended, and as the students walked out of the classroom, Akira made his way towards Kawakami, who looked at him with an annoyed expression on his face. "Well, do you have an explanation?" She snapped at him. "You were focusing on something else the whole time, you were acting extra jittery the whole period, and you kept glancing outside the window. What is going on with you today?"
"I'm sorry, it's just," Akira began to explain to his teacher. "My mom found out about my record getting leaked, and she's making her way here now." He shook his head in an anxious manner. "I'm just worried about what's going to happen when she gets here."
"I see," Kawakami said. "Well, thank you for the heads up. I'll help you discuss the situation with your mother in an efficient manner. I'm sure we can calm her down."
"I wish we could." AKira muttered before a loud noise was heard from a distance. The young man and his teacher turned to look out the window, an expression of dread on the former's face and a befuddled one on the latter. "She's coming."
"What?"
"I apologize in advance for what she's going to do soon." Akira stated with fear. "I'll go try to minimize any damages she might cause." With that, the frizzy-haired boy made a mad dash out of the classroom, leaving Kawakami behind as the wind seemed to follow after him. As he kept running towards the school entrance, he kept looking out the window, sweat drip[ping down his forehead as he kept hearing a booming noise every few seconds, growing closer with each passing second. His heart pounded in his chest as he ran past Ryuji, his mind racing through any action, decision, or option he could make.
He heard the sounds of an explosion coming from the school parking lot. He was too late. She was here.
"MY CAAAAAARRRR!!!"
At least something good came from this situation, which was about to get worse soon.
As he made his way to the exit out of the building, Ryuji caught up to him, a panicked expression on his face. "Dude, what the Hell was that?!" He practically screamed out in panic. "Was that a bomb or something?!"
"Worse, dude." Akira muttered before he began to step out of the school, ignoring the crowd that was forming around the exit. Out in the parking lot was a smoldering crater where Kamoshida's car used to be, and walking out of the crater was the presence of power. A woman with black hair walked up from the edge, her 7' stature, coupled with her body akin to a Greek god, commanded the respect of everyone that gazed upon her. She was outfitted in a red leather outfit, one that was suspended with a golden WW upon her chest, with another separating her blue skirt. She wore golden greaves and bracelets, akin to a greek soldier, but with a divine radiance unlike any other.
Everyone looked at the woman in awe and some admiration, not knowing how to react to seeing the woman at their school. Everything was quiet, save for the sounds of the fire raging behind the woman.
Then she spoke.
"Akira Kuruse-Wayne!" The woman called out to the school, her powerful voice ringing across the school grounds.
"Shit." Akira muttered before he stepped closer towards the woman, who saw him and made her way towards him. "Hi, mom."
"WONDER WOMAN'S YOUR MA?!" Ryuji yelled out.
"FOR REAL?!" The rest of the school, students and staff alike, screamed.
Omake
It was Akira's first day at his new school. He had to make it on time, but he wondered how the train crash from yesterday would affect the path today. "Oh, you're up." He heard Sojiro call out from behind the bar, where there was a plate of curry set up. "I couldn't let my consciousness get at me if I don't give you breakfast, so eat up."
"Thank you for the food." Akira said in thanks, unsure of what to make of the curry. Despite his upbringing, he had never tried curry in his life. Tentatively, he raised a spoonful of the reddish-brown sludge before he brought it to his face, extending his tongue towards the meal before making contact.
Sojiro watched as the kid tasted his curry, wondering what his reaction was going to be, when he saw Akira drop his spoon, frozen in a trance. "Hey, kid, are you-?" He began to ask before the frizzy-haired young man slammed his face towards the plate, devouring the curry in a ravenous manner. Within seconds, the plate had been licked clean, not a speck of curry left.
"More!" Akira cried out as his voice began to slip into an accent. "I must have more of this magical concoction!" His eyes darted towards the pot that still had curry for the day. "Do you plan to eat that?!"
Before Sojiro gave an answer, Akira had already grabbed the pot and guzzled down the sludge. Within moments, the restaurant's supply of curry was finished, the young man that devoured it letting out a steaming breath.
"Sojiro! This dish is beyond words!" Akira exclaimed. "It is more delectable than Ambrosia! More perfect than the Halls of Elysium! And dare I say it, more wonderful than ice cream!"
Elsewhere
"And with that, the trail ends near the island of Madagascar." Wonder Woman explained to the Justice League. "On to other-" Was as far as she got before she screamed out in pain, clutching at her chest over her heart.
I blame Epsi's server for allowing this to happen.
