Remnant Knights
Crossovers: RWBY, Batman
Vale, Kingdom of Vale
Ruby Rose was just enjoying visiting the streets of Vale. She was just a normal 15 year old girl attending Signal Academy with aspirations to one day attend Beacon like her old sister, Yang. Only now, where she initially was hoping to explore a Dust Store to likely look for something to improve or add to her weapon. Only to be interrupted by some thug in a black suit and red sunglasses. This interaction ended poorly as Ruby tossed the man through a window.
Where Ruby then proceeded to jump out the same window as she was being shot at by the thug's group. All of whom were bing lead by some ginger haired man in a bowler hat with a cane. As Ruby was avoiding the blasts and prepared to fight back with her own unique weapon. The thugs stopped firing as they were blinded by a bright light coming from the sky.
'What the heck?' she wondered as she couldn't see who was flashing that light.
When suddenly, the thugs panicked, "Holy shit! Here!? In Vale!?" one yelled.
"No not here man! Not here!" another yelled.
The leader stepped forward looking angry, "What are you all screaming about?" he asked. When he saw the shape made by the light, "Oh hell." he muttered.
The criminal leader cursed, "Boys, pack up! We're…"
*CLANG*
The criminal stopped mid sentence as two of his thugs were taken out by a pair of projectiles. The criminal gritted his teeth as he raised his cane and fired at the source of the light.
"Damn it all! It's the Batman!" the criminal yelled.
"Batman!?" Ruby asked as more projectiles came down.
Expecting a man in a black and grey outfit with a bat theme. The thugs open fired as a man in a different outfit arrived and started to attack them. In a blink of an eye, the costumed man threw down a smoke bomb which concealed his presence. Ruby immediately ran to take cover as she didn't want to get caught in the gunfire as the thugs tried to catch the stranger. A few seconds later, the gunfire died down.
Ruby poked her head out from a corner to see see several thugs being tossed out. When the smoke cleared up, Ruby saw the stranger repeatedly beating one of the thugs with a pair of Escrima Sticks. Before finishing him off with a kick to the chin. Another thug tried to hit him from behind, only for the stranger to duck and kick him away. A third thug proceeded try and grab the stranger causing him to miss as the stranger flipped over the thug and slammed him into the thug he kicked away earlier.
Ruby turned her attention to a pair of thugs trying to shoot at the stranger from a distance. Seeing as how the stranger was busy finishing off a downed thug. Ruby fired her weapon one of the thugs, knocking him unconscious while the other was startled by Ruby's attack. The stranger smiled and nodded at Ruby for her help.
"Thanks!" the stranger said before knocking the thug out by throwing an Escrima Stick at his head.
Ruby gasped as she looked at the stranger with wide eyes, "Oh my gosh! You're not Batman!" she said.
"I know." the stranger said.
"You're Nightwing! You're 20 times cooler!" Ruby said as she had stars in her eyes.
Nightwing chuckled, "I know kid, the Bat is an old man and I'm young and fresh. Anyways, can't talk right now. I got another bird that needs to go to jail." He said before running.
"Wait, let me help!" Ruby yelled as she ran after the vigilante.
On the rooftops
As the criminal ran away from the vigilante. A bullhead pulled up near the end of one of the roofs. As the criminal thanked his good luck. He soon found himself being chased again by the vigilante and child.
"Are you kidding me?" the criminal asked before firing an explosive from his cane.
Nightwing grabbed Ruby and jumped away, "Hang on!" he said.
"Who is this guy?" Ruby asked.
"Roman Torchwick, a petty thug trying to make it big." Nightwing answered before hopping over a few obstacles.
Just as Roman made his way into airship. Nightwing fired a special grappling hook that fired one hook onto the roof of the building he was on and another at the tail of the bullhead. Nightwing knew that the grappling hook wouldn't last forever so he quickly started running on the rope towards the bullhead to catch the criminal.
As he did this, Roman ran inside of the cockpit. Then a second later, just as Nightwing was about to jump inside to catch Roman and the pilot. A woman in a red dress unleashed fire from her palms. Sending Nightwing falling down, but was able to recover quickly enough to fire another grappling hook at the bullhead. As Nightwing tried to enter the airship again, the mysterious woman continued to unleash fire at him only for Ruby to open fire at her with her weapon.
"That thing is a gun too? Sweet!" Nightwing said as Ruby smiled.
"I know right? It's a gun and a sniper!" Ruby happily replied.
"And this is an explosive. Like the one that I almost got you with, Red!" Roman said as he came back out to fire another explosive at Ruby.
"KID!" Nightwing yelled as he tried to jump to save Ruby.
Only for the explosion to go off as he was about to reach her. Instead of someone getting hurt in the blast. Nightwing and Ruby were protected by a shield generated by a huntswoman. Unfortunately, she wasn't enough to help them in this fight as two criminals escaped on the airship.
Nightwing sighed, "I'm getting a long lecture tonight." he said.
"Oh my gosh! A real huntswoman and a superhero on the same night!" Ruby exclaimed before noticing the silence. "Oh? Too early?" she asked.
"Far too early young lady." the woman said. "And you, it's citizens like you with no respect for the law that allow civilians like this child to get hurt!" she said scolding Nightwing.
Nightwing did see some issue, "I admit, letting her tag along was my fault." He said. "However, another thing…" he said before running away.
"Nightwing, wait! Can I have your autograph!?" Ruby yelled out.
"You already have it!" Nightwing yelled back.
Ruby looked around before noticing Nightwing's signature on her weapon, "So cool." she said. Only to look at the huntswoman's look of disapproval, "Not cool." she quickly said.
The next day
Yang was ecstatic, very concerned, but mostly ecstatic as her little sister was accepted in Beacon despite her age. While Yang is still fuzzy with the details of what happened on the night of the robbery in Vale. She was still excited to hear that Ruby impressed the headmaster of Beacon enough to be invited to join the academy.
"Yang, you're crushing me!" Ruby yelled as Yang hugged her too tightly.
"Sorry, it's just so awesome that you're here now!" Yang said. "Though, I can't promise I'll be able to hold your hand the whole time. So that means, you gotta make new friends. That's gonna be a big challenge." she said.
"Hey, I do not need friends. I have all the skills I need." Ruby replied.
"Right." Yang said dryly.
Knowing her sister was doomed because of how much her father coddled her. Yang looked around and tried to look for someone to introduce Ruby to. Preferably someone who isn't a psychopath or use Ruby in a bad way. That's when Yang's eyes gazed upon a dark haired girl who was quietly reading to herself.
Believing the girl to be a normal person of some capacity. Yang dragged Ruby with her to greet the quiet girl.
"Hi there!" Yang said greeting the girl. The girl gazed at Yang, "I'm Yang Xiao Long and this is my sister." she said cheerfully.
"Hello, I'm Blake." Blake said before focusing on her book.
"Isn't our weather lovely?" Yang asked.
Clearly, Yang was also bad at socializing despite having superior confidence compared to her younger sister.
"Yes, very lovely. Like this book." Blake said ignoring Yang.
As Yang's attempt at socialization were failing. Blake's attention was diverted towards the news screen. Where the anchorwoman, Lisa Lavender, was covering the news.
"Onto our next story, during last night's events and another dust shop robbery. Rumor has it that a man in a black and blue unitard was spotted combatting the robbers. While the police have yet to release an official statement. Witnesses have turned in blurry images of an individual carrying two Escrima Sticks."
"What a freak." Blake muttered while Ruby suddenly felt nervous.
"Despite lack of photographic quality, witnesses claim. That this individual is the Vigilante Nightwing." Lisa states.
Yang smiled, "No way! Nightwing!?" she asked as Ruby tried to hide herself.
"Nightwing, famously known as the sidekick of Atlas' more infamous vigilante, Batman. Has been spotted twice in the past week. Leaving many officials on the lookout. Citizens are advised to contact local officials with any information on Nightwing or any member of the "Bat-Family" in Vale. This is Lisa Lavendar and this was your early morning news." Lisa said before the screen turned off.
By now, just about every student was focused on the screen. Everyone having mixed thoughts about the information Lisa gave them.
"No way! Is Batman here too?"
"Superheroes are literally the real heroes."
"Typical, some crazy person in a mask is running loose."
Blake looked unsure, "Maybe Nightwing has good intentions." she suddenly said.
"Heck yeah he does! He's a superhero!" Yang said excitedly.
That's when some pompous girl spoke up, "A hero is someone who saves the day. Not some lunatic with a fake name that takes the law in their own hands." she said.
"Who are you?" Yang asked wondering who this rude person is.
"I am Weiss Schnee, heiress of the Schnee Dust Company." Weiss said proudly.
"Oh, your company makes dust." Yang said.
"I see you have some idea as to who I am then." Weiss said.
"And your company is rumored to be forcing faunus citizens into unfair labor conditions as well as pushing other small businesses into closing." Blake pointed out.
Now Weiss looked angry, "So you all believe that?" she asked.
"They are probably just some rumors." Yang said in hopes of diffusing the situation.
"So you do believe all of those lies." Weiss said looking more pissed by the minute.
"Wasn't it Batman that who exposed several executives in your company of associating with criminals?" Blake asked as Weiss rolled her hands into fists.
"That… that was…" Weiss was too angry to say anything clearly.
So Ruby tried to diffuse things, "Okay, let's all calm down and try again. Hi, I'm Ruby Rose and I think we should try and get along." she said.
Weiss smiled at the girl, "Yeah, we can all hang out at the mall and go shopping together. Then maybe we can have sleep overs and eat junk food while we watch scary movies." she said.
"Really?" Ruby asked sounding thrilled.
"No!" Weiss said before storming off.
"This was a mistake." Ruby said.
Yang nodded, "I guess it was." she said.
Unknown to the four girls. A blond teen was listening closely to them and was unsure how take their various opinions. All he could do, was wait for wait for the airship to land on Beacon.
At Beacon, the next day
After listening to Professor Ozpin, Beacon's headmaster, give his welcoming speech for the orientation wile explaining what to expect today. All the potential huntsmen were in the locker rooms preparing for the real orientation. There was still a lot nobody knew, they were told that they had to collect artifacts in a forest filled with Grimm. All the while forming a partnership with the first student they meet.
It seems as though Yang is adamant about Ruby making friends.
"You really need to grow up and meet new people." she told her sister.
"What does making friends have to do with anything? Also, I don't need others to grow up. I drink milk." Ruby replied.
Then there was Weiss trying to kiss up to a more famous student.
"Hi, you're Pyrrha Nikos." Weiss greeted.
"Yes I am, may I help you?" Pyrrha asked.
While Pyrrha is a proud woman with great achievements for her age. She wasn't like Weiss who is strict and uptight. While not claiming to be perfect, Weiss tries a bit too hard to be a perfectionist. Whereas Pyrrha is more flexible and humble.
Too bad Weiss could not see this as she immediately started with convincing Pyrrha that they would make a good team. Like this was an interview, Weiss brought up some good points but was trying too hard to get close. With Pyrrha trying to be nice and not outright reject her. However, their conversation was interrupted by the sound of the news coming from someone's scroll.
"And once again, the takeover of one of Wayne Enterprise's sub-branches has failed. The current CEO of Schnee Dust Company, Jacques Schnee, states that, "While Mr. Wayne is quite a shark of a business man. He is still blind to see how this partnership will help Atlas prosper." as Mr. Schnee refuses to backdown on the deal. Even after having lost his parents on that fateful night many years ago, Bruce Wayne continues to see the light in Atlas, but not in the way Mr. Schnee does." said the voice of Lisa Lavender.
Weiss frowned as she heard her family's company. Her father was up to his business ventures and for many years, tried to take some control of Wayne Enterprises. At the very least their lower branches since the Waynes have been around almost as long as the Schnees in the world of business.
"In other news, Atlas finds itself under contaminated with more homicide. The victims being typical small time thugs from various small gangs. Including those who were employees by former SDC executives. General James Ironwood is to release a statement on the ongoing investigation of these murders within the next week. This is Lisa Lavender and this was your early morning news." Lisa finished.
"The world is is always a big mess." Said a blond teen.
"Do you have to play that so loud?" Weiss asked as she sounded angry.
"Sorry, didn't know you were listening." The teen said.
"Well I was and you should be more considerate." Weiss said.
Pyrrha decided to intervene, "I think he was just minding his own business Weiss. Right…"
"Jaune, Jaune Arc." Jaune said introducing himself.
"Well Jaune, I am impressed to see that you keep up with the times. I never seem to have the time to catch up with what's going on outside." Pyrrha said trying to establish a good impression.
"Honestly, I'd rather watch cartoons but my mentor said it's always good to get a dose of reality. Something along the lines of that." Jaune replied as Pyrrha snorted.
"That does sound right." Pyrrha said as she agreed with such an idea.
Leaving Weiss disappointed that Pyrrha finds enjoyment in interacting with Jaune. Someone who she already deemed to be a lazy slacker. With Weiss believing that Jaune didn't even pay attention to that news clip and did it just to look mature.
Later, at the Emerald Forest
It was strange to say the least, Ozpin explained the rules of the test. He wanted everyone to pair up with the person who's eyes they meet. That pair would become partners for the rest of their stay at Beacon until graduation. However, what concerned most of the students is the fact that Ozpin wanted to launch them into the air to land in the forest.
Hopefully with parachutes. Never mind the Grimm, the landing will kill most of them.
"So, we are getting parachutes right?" Jaune asked.
Ozpin ignored him and continued to go over the rules. With Jaune repeating his questions and being ignored until Ozpin started launching everyone. Until it was Jaune and Ruby's turn. Ruby at first, felt very terrified but adjusted to her situation by copying her sister. Where she pulled out her scythe and stood on the blade and proceeded to press the trigger to give her some more momentum. Leaving Jaune with his own method to try and land.
'No worries, you've been high in the sky before. All you need is… where is it?' Jaune thought as he grabbed at his belt to find nothing. 'Crap, then I can just stab a tree with…' he thought before feeling more terror.
Jaune cursed his bad luck as he tried reaching for a branch as he was about to hit the ground. When suddenly, a spear hit Jaune's hood and embedded him into a tree. Jaune sighed in relief but mentally berated himself for needing to be saved this way.
"Still, whoever went out of there way for me is my new best friend." Jaune said as he struggled to adjust his position.
Where he proceeded grab at the spear that saved him and pulled out. Luckily, he did manage to stick the landing this time. Only to run into Weiss who blindly bumped into him and stared at his face.
"Hi?" Jaune greeted.
"No." Weiss said before turning around and grabbing Ruby by the hood.
"Ha, I knew it!" Ruby said as she was excitedly dragged away by Weiss.
"What?" Jaune asked before Pyrrha approached him.
"I see you were able to get yourself free." Pyrrha said.
Jaune smiled, "Yeah, though I'm not exactly a good skydiver. How did you land without this thing?" he asked as he handed over the spear.
"I have my ways, but that doesn't mean I won't help if I'm able." Pyrrha said.
"So does that mean we can team up or do you want to avoid me like Weiss?' Jaune asked as he scratched the back of his head.
"I would love to team up with you." Pyrrha said making Jaune blush.
"Cool, yeah uh, let's go then!" Jaune said as he lead the way in a random direction.
Some time later
The peace wouldn't last, as Pyrrha and Jaune would find themselves running into packs of Grimm. Luckily their numbers weren't too big and there wasn't anything very intense to deal with. Merely a few wild Beowulfs that tried to snuff them out.
"I wish I was that unique." Jaune comments as he pulls his sword out of a Grimm's head.
Meanwhile Pyrrha was catching her shield as she had thrown it at a Beowulf that wanted to pounce her. Though it wasn't Pyrrha's skills that he was commenting on. Rather, it was her weaponry as Pyrrha's sword had more than one form.
"Well your shield is nice. It's very retractable and that's good for convenience." Pyrrha said trying to be supportive.
"I always feel like I could do better." Jaune said as he looked at his sword and shield.
"Jaune, it's not a matter of who has the flashiest weaponry. It's a matter of what you are best at." Pyrrha said.
"Then you must be good at everything." Jaune said as he glanced at Pyrrha's weapon.
"I think over prepared is how I would define it." Pyrrha replied.
"Then would you say I'm underprepared?" Jaune asked.
"I say you are more than prepared." Pyrrha said making Jaune snort.
"We'll seeee!" Jaune yelled before he was ripped away from the ground.
"Jaune!" Pyrrha screamed as she converted her sword into a rifle.
Before the blond boy realized it, he was taken away from his partner and lifted into the sky by a Razorwing Grimm. The flying Grimm was screaming it's head off as it tried to claw at Jaune. Jaune struggled to gain his bearings before swinging his sword wildly at the Grimm in an attempt to make it let go. Before he remembered something for this situation.
Flashback, 6 years ago
Young Jaune had fallen and nearly hit his head on the ground. He would have met his fate and woken up from a concussion had it not been for the various threads that caught him.
"I guess I'm doomed to turn into roadside paste." Jaune said.
That's when a tall man came in, "With that mindset, you will." he said. "Jaune, you have to clear your thoughts. You can't think about what if and what could happen. Think of what should happen. Your intentions are greater when you gain control of the situation." the man explained.
"How do I control something out of my hands? I can't change the laws of gravity." Jaune replied in a negative tone.
The man kneeled in front of Jaune, "You didn't fall down and get hurt because I controlled the situation." he said.
"That's different, this is training." Jaune said.
"Indoor training yes, just wait until field training." the man adds. Jaune didn't feel any better, "Jaune, I can't physically control you or make you complete the trials how I wish, but what I can control. Is your ability to succeed because that is my intention." he further explained.
"That's confusing. You're saying I'm going to pass because you feel like it? How does that make any sense?" Jaune asked.
"This is where you will figure it out on your own." the man said.
End of flashback
Jaune quickly stabbed the Razorwing in the chest, resulting in the creature shrieking as it started to fall. Jaune proceeded to cut off the creatures legs at the best moment as he started to roll over the top of a hill. Causing his fall to hurt less as he started rolling across the ground. The future huntsmen slowly stood back up as he watched the Razorwing scream in pain as it tried to get away.
"Oh no you don't!" Jaune yelled as he drew a knife from his belt and stabbed it in the neck.
With enough force and impact, the Grimm was dead and started to dissolve. Jaune took a deep breath as he looked back down.
"Control the situation, yeah right. I think he meant for me to adjust with the situation." Jaune said before he saw Pyrrha run towards him.
"Jaune!" she called out. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"I'm fine, that stupid bird changed our course, but I'll get us back on track." Jaune said as Pyrrha felt relieved. "Let me just…" he was interrupted as he fell from the ground.
"Oh no." Pyrrha said wondering why Jaune was filled with so much misfortune.
As Pyrrha looked for a way to climb up the hill to look for her partner. She heard a loud animalistic sound and found a cave entrance. Before Pyrrha could call out for Jaune, her partner came running out and lifted her over his shoulder.
"Sorry Pyrrha, can't talk! There's a Deathstalker!" Jaune said as a giant scorpion Grimm started to chase them.
"Jaune, I know we're in a hurry, but could you put me down?" Pyrrha asked as Jaune kept carrying her while running.
"Sure I'll… do that later." Jaune said as he realized he was at the edge of another hill. "Okay, someone has to be rigging this thing. I think the headmaster wants us dead." he said as it was a long drop down.
"Jaune, I think it's too late to turn around." Pyrrha said as the Deathstalker was getting closer.
"Damn, sorry Pyrrha but I need you to keep hanging on." Jaune said before jumping off the edge of the hill.
Flashback
Young Jaune fell and scrapped his knee, "Ow!" he yelled.
The man jumped in front of Jaune, "You are doing better. Last time, you landed on the edge of the roof and feel backwards." he said.
"I don't like playing The Floor is Lava anymore. Who would want to jump across the rooftops?" Jaune asked.
"A lot of desperate people. We can't always access our vehicles and sometimes, the roads are too busy or too visible." the man answered. "Other times, the adrenaline rush makes a perpetrator brave enough to run across the rooftops. Which you obviously realize is not safe." He explained.
"Then why bother if the moron is going to injure himself?" Jaune asked.
"Because that "Moron" as you put it, can still get away. Fear is natural, but it's about putting that fear aside and putting your goal ahead of it. Controlling that fear will make you break your self limits." the man explained.
"Do I have to make the run again?" Jaune asked nervously.
"You may find yourself on the run one of these days. Sometimes the pursuer isn't a human." The man explained as he was referring to the Grimm.
Jaune sighed, "Can I heal my knee first?" he asked before continuing his training.
End of flashback
Jaune found himself landing on a tree branch. Then quickly hopping from tree to tree before making it into a clearing. Despite Pyrrha finding Jaune to be a nice guy and quite capable of holding his own. She wasn't really a fan of being carried around while Jaune moved like he was Tarzan.
"Jaune, you can put me down now. I think we escaped it." Pyrrha said.
"Did we?" Jaune asked as he jumped down and landed on his feet. He then put Pyrrha down, "Sorry, it's some instincts my mentor taught me." he said.
"I suppose everyone has their style. Still, I'm glad we escaped that Deathstalker." Pyrrha said before looking ahead. "And look, those must be the ruins!" she said as they started running.
That's when they ran into Yang and Blake along with another pair named Nora and Ren. Nora was currently dancing around as a large chest piece in the shape of a rook was on her head. At the same time, she was singing about being queen of the castle as celebration.
"I'll let you pick the artifact Pyrrha. I think I gave you enough heart ache." Jaune said.
"It wasn't that bad Jaune." Pyrrha said as she picked up a rook.
Before anyone else said anything, several trees were knocked over. Revealing a rampaging Deathstalker, hopefully it wasn't the same one Jaune woke up. Then again, would it matter if it was or wasn't?
"I was so not looking forward to round 2." Jaune said.
It didn't help that there was a giant Nevermore flying in the sky. Even worse, Weiss was barely hanging onto the Grimm's talon.
"That's definitely worse." Jaune comments.
"Oh no, Weiss!" Ruby yells out as she arrives.
As Weiss struggles to hold on. Jaune starts thinking about to his own training again.
Flashback
Young Jaune panted as he barely arrived home, "Master Arc, while I do realize that the city was quite dirty. I did expect you to at least wipe your feet." said a middle aged butler.
"I was out there for 12 hours!" Jaune shouts.
Then Jaune's mentor spoke up, "12 hours, 21 minutes and 33 seconds." He said as Jaune looked down.
Jaune took a deep breath, "That test was so hard. There was no way I would have passed it before sunrise." he said.
Now the butler looked confused, "You gave him a time limit?" he asked as the man smirked.
"I counted but I never said he was late." the man said.
"Then do I pass?" Jaune asked, forgetting his frustration.
"You surpassed the previous the previous record of three days on your lonesome, Master Jaune." the butler answered.
"Who's the previous record holder?" Jaune asked.
"There is no time limit, remember?" the man said as Jaune felt confused. "Besides, your creativity saved you several times. Being able to transform the environment into your weapon is a desperate action that takes years to master. You won't always have your utility belt, so I congratulate you on that much alone." he further explained.
It would be years later that Jaune realized his mentor was the record holder. Taking him three whole days to make it across Atlas and into their hideout. Jaune's record of 12 hours would be broken to a solid 3 hours by his own successor.
That and Jaune's mentor had to make a reminder that their duty did not accept payment. So now there was a five lien bill hanged up on a picture frame at the hideout.
End of flashback
Jaune studied the area around him before approaching Ruby, "Ruby, your scythe is part gun right? With enough force, could it help you move faster?" he asked.
"Yeah, it helped me while the headmaster launched us into the air." Ruby answered.
"What are you planning with my sister?" Yang asked suspiciously and maybe a little hostility.
Jaune tried to ignore her, "Look, if we can get Ruby into the air. She can launch herself into the air and save her partner." he said.
"And how do we catch her? That's a long drop!" Yang said getting protective.
Jaune started revealing some rope he made with some loose vines, "I make a net obviously." he said.
"Hey! I can throw her! I'm pretty strong!" Nora exclaimed.
"She is, seriously." Ren said confirming her statement.
"Oh no, there is no way…" Yang was cut off by Ruby running towards Nora.
It wasn't too long after that Ruby jumped up as Nora briefly caught her by the feet. The ginger haired girl used all of her strength to launch Ruby Into the air. However, Weiss already lost her grip and began to plummet. Falling right into Ruby's position as the hooded girl grabbed Weiss. Before Weiss could question Ruby and ask about the drop. They were caught in a hand made web made of vines. Unlike Yang who was hesitant and panicked by her sister's safety.
Jaune got everyone else to follow his plan and move the vines around. To position it into working like a life net that firefighters use. Luckily there was enough to create a strong net and the vines themselves were stretched out enough to reduce the fall.
"Ruby!" Yang cried out.
"Yang!" Ruby cried back.
"Nora!" Nora shouts. "What? I thought we were all doing it." she asked.
Then Weiss noticed the Deathstalker, "Look out!" she yells as she slams her sword down.
Weiss was then able to generate a strong enough ice wall that stopped the Deathstalker in it's tracks. As it's tail was stuck in the ice as it attempted to pierce one of them.
"Now we're even." Weiss said with a smirk.
"Yeah, time to go now!" Jaune shouts.
"He's right, we need to grab an artifact and make it back tot he cliffs." Ruby said as she didn't want another close call.
"That's a plan I wholeheartedly agree with." Weiss said as the Nevermore started shooting it's feathers at the group.
A little while later
Pyrrha looked at Jaune curiously, "Did you preplan that net? I was curious as to why you were taking every vine you saw earlier." she asked.
"That? I always wanted a grappling hook and thought we could use these vines to scale hills. They also make ropes and since there's no grappling hook. This will have to do." Jaune said as he saved a bit of the vines.
"Ooh! Ooh! I want a grappling hook too!" Nora said excitedly.
Meanwhile Ruby was trying to think of a way to install a grappling hook too. That or something as good since it sounded really useful to have a rope around for climbing and crossing large paths. Blake quietly ignored everyone while still thinking how useful the rope which she uses is as it could also be considered a grappling hook.
However, this was a time of silence as eight participants were taking cover in hopes of evading the sight of the Nevermore. Which didn't work as the Deathstalker came and the Nevermore was now aware of them. Nora quickly tried to distract the flying Grimm while simultaneously firing grenades at the Deathstalker's head as Blake and Ren supported her. The rest continued to make their way to their final destination by crossing an old series of stone bridges.
The Nevermore had other plans and attempted to sweep most of them away by flying through the stone bridge. Causing a chunk to break apart while missing everyone entirely. Blake, Ren and Pyrrha were then left behind to face the Deathstalker on their own while Jaune and Nora watched them from afar.
"We need to help them, but I doubt my rope is going to help us this time." Jaune said. "Then again, I could tie the vine around our waists and…" Nora ignored Jaune's plan.
As she used her hammer to smash a part of the bridge. Causing Jaune to be launched by debris while Nora stepped onto the top part of her hammer and fired a grenade. Allowing her to use the impact of her weapon to launch her to the other side of the bridge. As the two arrived to help the trio, Blake fell during the fight but quickly caught herself.
"I see she had her own grappling hook and never said anything." Jaune said as Blake saved herself by firing a rope at one of the bridges. His focus then returned to the Deathstalker, "I can complain about not having toys later." he said as Ren tried to run at the Grimm.
Which lead to the teen being slapped away by the Deathstalker's tail and crashing into an old pillar. Nora got angry as she saw her closest friend being harmed and proceeded to fire more grenades at the Grimm. Meanwhile Jaune and Pyrrha ran up to the creature and blocked it's claws. As Nora proceeded to ram the beast with the brute force of her weapon. Jaune slowly looked up to it's tail and started thinking for a minute.
"Pyrrha, do you think you can take out that tail?" Jaune asked.
"Maybe, I'm not in a good position!" Pyrrha said.
"Nora, try hitting it's head." Jaune said.
"Okay." Nora said as she launched herself into the air.
Before bringing down her hammer onto the Deathstalker's head. Temporarily disorienting it long enough for Pyrrha to freely move and cut off the tail. Further wounding the Deathstalker as Jaune proceeded to dig his sword into the Grimm's skull. He then proceeded to repeatedly stab it in the head until it screamed out in pain and tried to shake him off.
'Hopefully this thing hasn't gotten that smart yet.' Jaune thought as the Deathstalker continued to run around.
At least until the blond huntsmen pulled out his sword and jumped off the Grimm. As Deathstalker kept running around like the wild animal it is. Causing it to fall down into the chasm below them.
"That worked out, but I probably could have tried something else." Jaune said as the Grimm likely died from the fall by now.
"Good job pal! We beat that stupid scorpion!" Nora said as she helped Jaune up.
"It was either that or stabbing it to death and I think Crocea Mors isn't that sharp." Jaune responded.
"At least we were on the same page." Ren said as his goal was also to take out the Deathstalker's stinger.
"Then hopefully we can all agree on moving on before another giant Grimm appears." Jaune said as they all nodded.
It wouldn't be too long before Ruby's group would end up defeating the Nevermore. Adding at least two teams to this year's roster at Beacon Academy.
Later that day
Having officially passed the test. Jaune and the group he slayed the Deathstalker with had stood before the headmaster who congratulated them for their skills and obtaining the White Rooks.
"From this day forward, you will all work together as Team JNPR." Ozpin said before Nora happily hugged Ren. "Lead by, Jaune Arc." he said.
"What?" Jaune asked, not noticing Pyrrha's smile.
"Congratulations young man." Ozpin said.
Pyrrha attempted a friendly gesture by giving a playful punch to Jaune's shoulder. Which he quickly avoiding by ducking. Pyrrha looked surprised while the spectators chuckled.
"You have good reflexes." Pyrrha complimented.
"Thanks, my mentor was… super paranoid." Jaune replied. "Anyways, I hope to get know you guys better. I bet this will be a fun year." he said.
Two weeks later
Jaune was confused beyond comprehension as Professor…
(Oobleck's Note: Doctor Oobleck!)
(A/N: Did you just break into my own author's notes?)
Ahem, Doctor Oobleck's lecture as he spoke in a very quick manner. That feels fairly difficult to understand and keep up with. However, there were a few students were not very focused and started to fall asleep.
"Strangely enough, with these talks about superheroes and whatsoever. It reminds me of a time where there were strangers in costumes and masks who believed in justice and all that is righteous and whatnot." Oobleck said gathering some attention. "Before you had eccentric men dressing like bats, boys naming themselves after birds or even green men turning into animals. There was Knight and Squire, but that's a lecture for another day." he finished explaining.
Jaune's eyes were peeled open as he tried to focus on the whole explanation. So he didn't notice Oobleck suddenly run up to him and get into his face.
"What do you think Mr. Arc!? How do you think such actions in the past apply to this day!?" Oobleck suddenly asked.
Jaune almost fell out of his seat when Oobleck asked that, "Oh uh, vigilantes? Right?" he asked.
"Yes, that is exactly what I have been speaking about Mr. Arc, care to explain your own thoughts? Maybe enlighten us?" Oobleck asked.
A few people in class looked like they were ready to laugh at whatever stupid carp they can expect from any teenager. Jaune decided to take a deep breath as to compose himself as to avoid such humiliation.
"Yes, well I do think that vigilantism sometimes has the right idea and good intentions at heart." Jaune started to say making a few such as Weiss frown. "It's a matter of morales and rules I guess. You can't just do whatever you want and think it's okay because you wanted to do good. As a huntsmen, aren't we all like supposed to follow our laws and not make them up as we go?" he asked.
Oobleck silently stared at Jaune as if he were trying to look for his soul. Which did make Jaune feel uncomfortably scared.
"That is an interesting point of view and technically speaking. Following the rules, as redundant it may sound, is what a huntsman is supposed to do." Oobleck said before quickly backing away. "Remember this class, as time moves and changes. You must never forget who you are and realize that your actions may come with a consequence as Mr. Arc states." he finished saying before the bell rings.
Jaune thanked Oum as he stood up and walked out with his teammates.
"Wow Jaune, you sounded crazy smart. Are you secretly a super genius?" Nora asked.
"No, I think I just know what to say to sound smart." Jaune answered.
"I think you said something really good. I wouldn't call that dumb luck or anything." Pyrrha said.
"I'm glad you think highly of me Pyrrha, but I bet you would have said something way better." Jaune replied.
Pyrrha rolled her eyes, "Jaune, you need to give yourself more credit." she said.
"Yeah Jaune, you're the leader. It reflects us and stuff. So you being a downer means we all look like downers." Nora points out.
"Nora has a point." Ren confirms.
Jaune sighed, "Fine, I'll be more outgoing or whatever." he said.
"Yay! Now buy us lunch, Fearless Leader!" Nora demanded.
"Hey, now you can tell me what to do?" Jaune asked.
"The leader must reward his subordinates." Nora answered.
"Ren?" Jaune asked but Ren merely shrugged. "Pyrrha?" He asked her.
"Um, maybe something small. We don't want to burn your wallet." Pyrrha said.
'You still want me to buy you all lunch.' Jaune thought as a rainy cloud appeared over his head.
Later that evening
As Jaune got out of the shower and got dressed. He started hearing his scroll vibrating. As he went to pick it up and unlock the homescreen. Jaune's eyes widened as he saw the logo of a blue bird starting to light up. Jaune looked around and found his dorm room empty.
Now feeling anxious, Jaune pressed a confirmation button on his scroll and proceeded to grab his bag and started rushing out. When he bumped into Pyrrha who was just now opening the door.
"Hey Pyrrha." Jaune greeted.
"Hey Jaune, I was hoping to find you." Pyrrha said.
"Well, where else than the JNPR dorm right?" Jaune asked with a nervous chuckle.
"Right, anyways I was wondering if you wanted to see a movie tonight." Pyrrha said.
"Wow, that sounds fun. We can get ready when Nora and Ren get here." Jaune said.
"Actually Jaune I…"
"But first, I gotta run to the pharmacy Pyrrha. My allergies are acting up and I gotta pick up my prescription." Jaune lied.
"Oh, okay. I'll see you later then." Pyrrha said.
Jaune nodded, "Right! Don't wait up! Traffic is killer!" he said as he ran out.
Pyrrha gave Jaune a weak smile, "Okay, I'll wait." she whispered.
Elsewhere
Making it out of Beacon, Jaune found a safe place where no one could see him. Upon opening his scroll again, he pressed a button on a custom app. Where he then heard a loud pressurized sound as if a firework was about to go off. When he saw a large metal container crash near him.
"Could you be any less conspicuous?" Jaune asked as he approached the metal container. Only to sigh as he opened the container, "Who am I kidding. Even with a workaholic like Bruce. He would be telling me to keep studying." he said.
As Jaune discreetly grabbed the contents of the container before setting it to be cloaked. Jaune changed from his casual outfit and into a tight black and blue outfit with a mask and a small device he put on his nape. Causing his blond hair to turn black and his eyes to turn brown as he put on an eye mask.
"Of course, being a huntsman is a dream and as redundant as it sounds. It's still fun." Jaune said as he grabbed a grappling hook. "Jaune Arc is just some average teen, but Nightwing is nothing he can imagine." he said before firing the grappling hook and zip lining onto a rooftop.
Downtown Vale
(Batman Arkham Asylum OST - Predator)
Once again, another dust shop was being robbed. A group of thugs dressed exactly like the ones that followed Roman Torchwick were looting the place of it's supply. Rather than take any of the money, the thugs went straight for the dust itself.
"Keep an eye on the clerk. He practically runs every shop in Vale." said the first thug.
"I knew I saw him somewhere before. I could have sworn he was the yogurt guy two blocks down." the second thug said.
"That's why I told you to focus. He might be a secret kung fu master or something." The first thug said.
Jaune arrived and took cover behind a nearby car, "Let's see how many of these thugs are there." he said as he activated Detective Mode. "Let's see, four inside and two on the roof with one guy in the backroom. Wait, why are there two on the roof?" he asked.
Jaune shook his head at the stupid choices. Thus, he decided to quickly move around the corner and scaled the walls. Thinking it would be safer to take out the two lookouts in case they try running down to help their friends.
"Wait, why are we guarding the roof? There's nothing here."
"To keep an eye out for the cops."
"Then what if they spot us? We have little cover and we're sitting ducks."
"We just need to cover the boys downstairs."
"That's the point, we're sitting ducks and regardless that if we make it out with no trouble. We have to climb all the way back down."
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying, that being a lookout from all the way up here is pointless. We can look out from down there and like I said. If the cops do show up, we'll have too little cover. Especially if they bring in a bullhead and things go wrong."
By this point, Jaune was already one foot away from these idiots.
"Those are words of treachery."
"You're a moron."
Jaune stifled a laugh as he caught their attention, "Hey you guys want my opinion?" he asked.
"Yes."
"No."
Jaune proceeded to slam his Escrima sticks onto the rooftop. Causing the two to be temporarily paralyzed from the electricity before being promptly nocked out.
"I think you guys should have stayed downstairs, it's more crowded but easier in case you get cornered or just need to run." Jaune explained with a whisper.
As Jaune slid down a pipe, he heard more talking from the thugs.
"Hey, check in on those guys on the roof. Maybe the lookout was pointless from up there." The first thug said.
"You think? You know how much of a pain in the ass it will be to get down from there?" the second thug asked as he quickly exited the store to run out back.
Jaune smirked as pounced on the thug, "Don't worry, they're on a nap break." he said tightened his hold around the thug's neck.
Where he eventually knocked him unconscious as well. Having only four thugs left, Jaune discreetly made his way inside without even the store owner noticing him. Utilizing Detective Mode again, Jaune found one thug guarding a door with another thug inside while the other two were cleaning the store out of it's product.
"You mind telling me why we're doing this again?" a third thug asked.
"To get paid." the first thug answered.
"No, I mean like what's the endgame?" the third thug asked.
"The endgame is you shut up and do as you're told." The fourth thug spoke up.
"Tch, assholes." the third thug murmured.
Jaune frowned, 'Damn, it's either classified or they just don't know and don't care.' he thought as there was no intel to gain so far.
Then the thug from inside the room came out, "Hurry up, I heard Nightwing hit our guys over a week ago. The last thing we need is Batman's group in Vale." he said.
"Pfft, it's probably some fanboy in a unitard." One of them said.
"I don't want any chances. Pack up what you got and call our getaway driver." the leader said. "And could you keep your guns aimed somewhere else? You screw up and this place might explode in our faces!" he added.
Jaune's hands rolled into fists, 'He's right, some of this dust is more sensitive than others. I better be careful.' he thought as he scanned the area. Before noticing a few helpful tools, 'That fire extinguisher would make good cover.' he thought.
As the group of thugs started to finish up. One of them started to contact their driver. Only to stop Jaune threw one of his escrima sticks at the fire extinguisher and caused it to create an explosion of smoke. The four thugs all aimed their guns at where the explosion took place.
"What exploded!?" the first thug asked.
"There was a fire extinguisher there, but those things don't just combust!" the fourth thug said.
"Fan out!" The first thug said before hearing some electricity along with a thug.
"What was that?" another thug asked before Jaune kicked him from behind.
Jaune then proceeded to slam his escrima stick into the back of the thug's head, knocking him out as well. When the smoke started to clear up, they noticed their two comrades were down. Making them both aim their weapons at the old store owner.
"I knew it! You are a kung fu master!" the first thug yelled.
The store owner desperately shook his head at the accusation. Only to stop as one of the thugs was grabbed from behind and slammed against the wall. The one remaining thug almost fell back as Nightwing's appearance scared him.
"Crap! The Bat family is in Vale!" the thug yelled as he started shooting.
Jaune proceeded to jump around to avoid the bullets until he found good cover. Where the thug immediately stopped as he saw the dust. He didn't want to blow the store up with himself still inside. So he started thinking between chasing Nightwing or taking a bag and hoping his getaway gets here quickly.
"Screw it, that van better be here!" the thug yelled as he grabbed a bag and hauled ass.
Jaune quickly ran after the thug who began to fire again. Luckily, his anxiety ruined his aiming efficiency but it was lucky enough to avoid hitting any of the dust inside. Jaune threw his escrima stick again causing the thug to drop his weapon and the bag of dust. With Jaune ending this fight by running up to him and drop kicking him into the road. The vigilante looked to the side to see the van coming and prompted him to knock out the thug before moving him away to safety just as the store owner hit the alarm.
"Shit! Where are those guys!?" the driver asked as he and one other thug came out.
"Whatever, I'll grab that bag and we'll run!" the second thug said as he ran out.
A minute later, after grabbing the bag and running back inside. The thug found the driver was unconscious and slumping on the wheel. The thug tried to wake up the driver as he felt like the local police were due to arrive at any moment. Seeing as it was hopeless to wake up the driver, the thug proceeded to just open the door and shove the man out onto the street.
"Screw it, I'm not sticking my neck out for these idiots!" the thug said as he tried putting a lot of pressure on the gas.
Only for the van to stay still. The thug cursed as he repeatedly stomped his foot on the pedal and that's when he noticed that the keys were gone.
"Lose something?" Jaune asked, surprising the driver.
"Shit!" the thug yelled as he tried to cut Jaune with a bowie knife.
Jaune avoided the first two swings before twisting the man's arm and making him drop the blade. Jaune then proceeded to roughly shove the thug's face against the steering wheel and keeping him there.
"Listen buddy, you have a name?" Jaune asked.
"Tony." the thug answered.
"Tony? Is that the universal name for well dressed thugs or something?" Jaune asked.
"Like you're one to judge, bird boy." Tony replied.
Jaune sighed, "Okay, you're probably going to refuse to answer my question. I get that, you have the right to privacy. Except, a lot of people are going to get hurt in the future and I'm holding you personally accountable." He said.
"What do you want?" Tony asked.
"Where's Roman Torchwick? I know he hired goons like you with your matching uniforms." Jaune asked.
"Like we ever know where Torchwick is. He hires a bunch of us and they follow him." Tony answered.
"Any idea as to why you're stealing from the cookie jar, but not the piggy bank?" Jaune asked.
"What?" Tony asked with much confusion.
Jaune sighed, "Why take the dust instead of the cash?" he asked.
"It's part of the plan, I don't know what they want." Tony answered.
"Who's they?" Jaune asked.
"I don't know." Tony answered before Jaune gave him a small shock. "HEY! That freaking hurts!" he yelled.
"Tell me who hired you!" Jaune commanded.
Tony snarled, "I don't know, we're contracted and on a loan." he answered.
"Then who is loaning you?" Jaune asked.
"I'm not saying anymore." Tony said before Jaune twisted his pinky. "SHIT! The hell does Batman teach you brats!?" he asked.
"Tell me who you really work for!" Jaune demands as he slammed Tony against the wheel again.
"AUGH! JUNIORS! WE WORK FOR JUNIORS!" Tony yelled.
Jaune smiled, "See Tony? I asked you for one thing and I didn't have to get violent if you were being honest the whole time." he explained.
"You could have broken my arm you bastard!" Tony yelled.
"Okay, maybe I went far but you're free to go if you can get out before the police arrive." Jaune said before bolting out the van's back doors.
Tony cursed, "I'm getting the bastard the next time I see his face. He freaking could have broken my arm!" he yelled before feeling a snag. "What the?" he asked before noticing his arm was handcuffed to the van handle.
Tony yelled angrily as he Nightwing pissed him off even more by trapping him in the van. As Jaune already escaped, the police eventually arrived and started arresting Tony and the other unconscious thugs. All of them unaware of the woman in a catsuit watching them from the top of a roof. The woman smiled before disappearing into the night.
Later, at JNPR's Dorm
Pyrrha sighed as the night started to get late and the move was nearly over. She looked at Ren and Nora who were immersed by the movie. She was worried about Jaune and wondered why he was so late. Only to feel better as the door was opened and Jaune came in with pizza.
"Sorry guys, traffic was indescribable." Jaune said.
"Wouldn't you need to use a bullhead to get from Vale?" Ren asked.
"I don't want to talk about that mess Ren. Besides, I brought pizza." Jaune said as Nora immediately stood up and grabbed the box.
"You are forgiven for you tardiness!" Nora said.
"Nora, share." Ren told her.
Jaune snorted as he sat beside Pyrrha, "Am I forgiven?" he asked.
Pyrrha looked completive, "I don't know." she said.
"Please Pyrrha." Jaune said putting his hands together. "I'll do you one big favor." he said.
Pyrrha smiled, "Okay, you owe me one favor Jaune. No backing out." she said.
"Okay, on my honor." Jaune said before grabbing a slice of pizza.
While subconsciously putting an arm around Pyrrha's shoulder as the redhead lied her head on his shoulder. Meanwhile Nora carelessly shoved Ren's face into her large chest. Completely ignoring Ren's muffled pleads to be released.
The next day, afternoon
*CLANG*
"You can't protect yourself forever Jaune!" Nora excitedly said as she sparred with Jaune.
"I think you might be right." Jaune said as his shield wasn't helping against Nora's Magnahilde.
"Fight back!" Nora demanded as she made Jaune stagger.
"Crap." Jaune said before taking the full force of the hammer strike.
Luckily, he reacted quickly before Nora almost hit him again. Despite his poor defense against someone with brute strength like Nora. Jaune at least had some good stamina and speedy reactions. Nora didn't notice it, but she could see that Jaune was stumbling with his sword. Almost as if it looked heavy or too slow for him to use. Something that Pyrrha did notice as she saw the spar.
"He's holding himself back." Pyrrha said.
"Pyrrha, I'm not doubting Jaune but I think he's trying to avoid Nora trying to hit him." Ren interjected.
"Not like that Ren, it's Jaune's style. When he's not fighting Grimm, it's like he's trying to familiarize himself with his sword." Pyrrha explained but Ren was not as knowledgeable as Pyrrha. So he needed a better explanation, "What I'm saying is, it's like he's using a different weapon style." she said.
"Maybe Jaune is trying a new technique. Grimm and humans are two different things." Ren said.
"Maybe." Pyrrha said before thinking of something.
Nora laughed as she locked Magnahilde with Crocea Mors. It looked like she was winning as Jaune struggled against the ginger's superior strength. However, it seems that Jaune was slowly moving towards the side which allowed Nora to put more pressure. That is until Jaune purposely slipped out of the weapon lock and made Nora hit the ground.
"Ow, slippery little guy aren't you?" Nora asked as she stood up to find Jaune's sword pointed at her.
He then proceeded to tap her head with the flat end, "I win." Jaune said.
"What!? Rematch!" Nora demanded with outrage.
"I think that's enough for now. We made a lot of good progress today." Pyrrha said calming Nora down.
"Fine, good game captain." Nora said as she accidentally crushed Jaune's hand while trying to give him a handshake.
"Good game." Jaune wheezed.
"I think we should go back inside now. It's really late." Ren said.
Jaune nodded, "Good idea, maybe get me some ice too." he said.
Nora scoffed, "Don't be a baby Jaune. You're the fearless leader, you're invincible… even though you tend to cheat in fights." she said.
"Nora." Pyrrha said.
"What?" Nora asked, sounding a bit sour about the spar.
As Team JNPR made it back to their dorms by nightfall. They heard the end of a screaming match coming from Team RWBY's dorm. The group could only wonder what's wrong with their sister team. There was always some form of drama going on in there. First it started with Weiss being angry about not being a team leader while Ruby has confidence issues.
"I know we're not exactly Professor Ozpin's favorites, but I think at least we can stand each other." Jaune said.
"Should we intervene?" Pyrrha asked.
"I say no." Ren said.
"Let's put it to a vote." Jaune suggested.
Help RWBY sort out their drama? 3 No, 1 Yes
"I'm sure they're fine." Jaune said as Blake stormed out the room. "Give it some time." he said trying to reassure his team.
With that, everyone assumed that Blake would just blow some steam and come back when things are less tense.
The next morning, Vale
Dressed as Nightwing, Jaune stood at the top of one the roofs.
"Master Jaune, you do realize that you may find yourself in metaphoric hot water yes?" a voice asked.
Jaune sighed as he tapped on his wrist's communicator, "I know Alfred, the big guy is probably listening in on us if not in a few minutes." he said.
"And that is why I chose to supervise you should you go off the books." Alfred said.
Jaune rolled his eyes, "I'm not a little kid anymore. Besides, this is important. A friend of another team is missing. Shouldn't that matter?" he asked.
"I suppose it does and while a part of me does believe that this could just be a rebellious action. I'm afraid Master Bruce's paranoia has caught onto me." Alfred replied.
"So, you think you can help on your end?" Jaune asked.
"I suppose so, just give me the information you have and I can attempt to locate her by image." Alfred said.
Jaune smiled, "Thanks Alfred, the girl's name is Blake Belladonna. She's older than Ruby, so around my age. So like 17 to 19 years old." he said before thinking some more. "Beacon Academy student, dark hair, pale skin and gold eyes. She kind of has this cat like look on her now that I think about it." he said.
"This is tricky, though… this is odd." Alfred said.
"What is?" Jaune asked.
"Master Jaune, I do not mean to discriminate, but is your colleague a faunus?" Alfred asked.
"Like I said, she's cat like but… actually Blake always keeps to herself. So her own teammates know almost nothing about her." Jaune said before remembering something. "Actually, most faunus are easy to spot. So unless she's hiding ears under her bow." he started to say.
"Yes, this must be her." Alfred said as he sent an image to Jaune's.
"What the heck!?" Jaune asked as he read Blake's profile.
"She is the daughter of Ghira Belladonna, the previous leader of the White Fang. Though Ghira himself stepped down once his formerly peaceful group had decided to take on the path of violence. It says here that she's been declared missing and hasn't been in Menagerie for some time." Alfred explained.
Jaune shook his head, "And a bit of a criminal record. It looks like she didn't leave the White Fang like her dad." he said.
"You may wish to practice caution Master Jaune. As I said, I do not wish to discriminate but there are those who can act a bit unhinged." Alfred warned.
"Thanks for the advice Alfred. I promise I won't fall in love with a catwoman of my own." Jaune said jokingly.
Alfred let out a small laugh, "Very good, good luck my boy." he said before disconnecting.
Jaune sighed, "I don't like quiet girls though." he said before finding Blake's image again. Then opening up an app, "And now maybe the I can locate her facial image through city's security cameras. It shouldn't take too long." he said before finding a lock on.
That evening
As the sun started to set, Jaune tracked Blake's location through the city's surveillance systems. After a series of trips and long periods of study. Jaune was able to track Blake to a nearby dock. Though it appeared as she wasn't alone, but accompanied by a monkey faunus.
"And the previous times weren't that far from now." Jaune said as he looked at his watch. "Okay Blake, where are you and the monkey?" he asked himself before noticing a bullhead flying down.
Jaune quickly took cover as the airship started to land. As he watched from the sidelines, Jaune activated his detective vision and found multiple armed hostiles coming out. All but one of them being members of the White Fang. Shockingly, they were being commanded by Roman Torchwick who they seem to be listening to. The White Fang are pretty much criminals now, good people with good intentions turned bad with violent tendencies. So why are they listening to some common thug?
Maybe Roman is secretly a rat or something?
Jaune started to move between the shadows as he tried to survey his situation. As he tried to plan out a way to deal with the many thugs. He saw a familiar figure coming out from the shadows.
"You have got to be kidding me." Jaune whispered.
As Roman was commanding a White Fang member. Blake started sneaking up behind the criminal.
"No, not like that! I said to… you have to be kidding me." Roman said as Blake moved her sword against his neck.
"Nobody move!" Blake commanded as the White Fang aimed their weapons at her. Blake then proceeded to remove her bow, "Brothers of the White Fang. Why are you aiding this thug?" she asked as the White Fang looked unsure.
"Didn't you get the memo? We're working together on a big score." Roman said confusing Blake.
Before she could ask anything, Roman fired his cane at the ground. Causing Blake to go flying back before quickly recovering and running as Roman continued to fire on her. Soon enough, the White Fang started to chase her.
"Someone catch her, or so help me I'm writing you a bad review as well." Roman said as his latest henchmen are less than adequate.
"Aw Roman, that's not nice." said a familiar voice
Roman cursed his luck, "Now the brats in tights are back!?" he asked.
That's when one of the White Fang soldiers was dragged away by some sort of grappling hook. Two others tried to help him by firing in the direction of where the grappling hook came from. Only once they were out of sight, Nightwing came casually walking out.
"You know Roman, since we're besties now. We should really schedule our meetings." Jaune said annoying Roman. "You want to meet up for swordfish next Thursday? He asked.
"Get him! Don't just stand there!" Roman ordered as the White Fang shot at the hero.
Only for the bullets to go through him. As a device on the ground revealed that Jaune was just a hologram. Roman cursed the stupid contraption as he blew it up with his cane. That's when he heard two of his henchmen being knocked out really quickly.
"Oh wait, I have to adjust to your schedule. You'll be spending a lot of time in a Vale prison, I heard they don't serve swordfish. What a bummer." Jaune said as Roman started shooting at him again. Which Jaune avoided after jumping away. Before the other White Fang soldiers could open fire as well.
The monkey faunus that Jaune saw on the cameras had appeared. Utilizing some strange nunchuks that were also guns. The faunus proceeded to make quick work with the White Fang.
"Don't worry Nightwing! I can help!" the faunus said, revealing that he's also a fan.
"Actually, I prefer avoiding letting civilians jump in. You know, less fatalities and stuff." Jaune said before sweeping a Fang member's legs. "Still, I don't mind the help." he said before shocking the thug into unconsciousness.
"Sweet!" the boy said before Roman tried to swing at his head.
When Jaune threw at Escrima stick to block the cane's impact, "And that's another reason." he said before retrieving his weapon.
"Got it! I'll focus!" the boy said before helping defeat the remaining thugs.
Whereas Jaune was trading blows with Roman, "What is it with wearing tights? Is this some sort of fetish?" Roman asked as he rapidly swung at Jaune.
"I can say the same about you, Clockwork Orange." Jaune replied as he blocked each attack his escrima sticks.
"You won't be laughing when I become the one who takes out one of Batman's brats!" Roman exclaimed as he hit Jaune in the knee and sweeped his legs.
Jaune then slammed his Escrima sticks into the ground, "Sorry, there's a long list of baddies promising the same." he said as he electrocuted the ground.
Causing Roman to crash into one of the metal containers. Before Jaune could go after him, he proceeded to run away from the bullheads. As they both had White Fang soldiers opening fire on him from their doorways. As Jaune took cover, he saw Roman get up and scramble to his feet in an attempt to escape. Not thinking twice, Jaune tried to apprehend him only to avoid the second bullhead as it came crashing down.
Wondering what caused the malfunction, Jaune saw a ginger haired girl with several floating swords on her back.
"What the heck?" Jaune asked as he turned on Detective Mode again. Where he saw all sorts of technology on the girl, "A robot? Who is sending killer robot girls?" He asked as the girl started finishing off the Fang.
Unfortunately, Roman got away during the confusion. Jaune started to run on top of the metal containers he saw the bullhead with Roman escape. Soon enough, the police sirens could in the distance. There was no doubt that the heavy fighting caused a lot of noise that prompted law enforcement to arrive. By now, it looked like the remaining members of the White Fang either retreated or got knocked unconscious.
Jaune started hopping around before noticing Blake reuniting with her team. Jaune sighed, while it was good that Blake is fine. There's the fact that Roman got away because of some robot girl.
"Bruce is going to kick my ass when he learns what I asked Alfred." Jaune said as he slapped his forehead. "Still, where is that robot girl?" he asked thinking she would be dangerous if left unchecked.
"Hey guys, where's Penny?" Ruby asked out loud.
"Yeah, where is she?" Yang asked as well.
Jaune overheard them as he still had Detective Mode on. At the same time, he found the robot girl who he assumed is Penny inside of a limo. Just as it drove off, Jaune fired a grappling line and began to chase it. Where he proceeded to throw a tracking device at the trunk. Jaune decided to leave it at that for the night.
"I have no idea who that girl is, why the White Fang are working for Roman or when Bruce is going to give me an angry call. I think it's time to head home before my team gets there first." Jaune said to himself as he left the docks.
Back with RWBY
Blake looked at her fellow faunus in confusion, "Sun, are you okay?" she asked.
"I'm looking for Nightwing." Sun answered.
"Sun, don't get Ruby excited. I didn't even see Nightwing." Blake said.
"Of course not, you were getting chased around then all of those explosions happened." Sun explained.
Ruby laughed, "I knew it! I knew I wasn't imagining things before Penny left my side!" She said excitedly.
The rest of her team sweat dropped at how excited Ruby got about superheroes. Weiss however, was not a fan of them.
In the Batcave
Alfred Pennyworth was cleaning up the Batcomputer as his master's favorite vehicle arrived. Stepping out of it, Batman came out with an ever present serious face.
"Hello Master Bruce, I take it that things went well?" Alfred asked.
Batman removed his cowl to reveal Bruce Wayne, "Well as they can be." he said.
"That reminds me, you would find out sooner or later, but Master Jaune…" Alfred was interrupted as the computer started to reveal an incoming call from Jaune.
"I see he's calling again." Bruce said as he answered the call.
"Hey Alfred, tell me when Bruce gets back. There's some important stuff that just went down." Jaune said.
"I'm here." Bruce said.
"Oh! Hey Bruce!" Jaune replied with surprise in his voice. "Anyways, um, since you're going to figure this out anyways. I talked to Alfred about helping me hack into Vale's CCTVs to find a friend who disappeared at night. They're fine by the way, thanks for asking." He explained.
"Get to the point Nightwing." Bruce said as he could already tell how much trouble occurred.
"Ok, so I found my friend at the docks and it turns out that Roman Torchwick is somehow in command of the White Fang. I don't know the details, but there's a partnership of sorts and they tried to help him steal SDC Dust shipments." Jaune explained.
Bruce pondered on this, Dust is one thing and it's no mystery that petty criminals and White Fang alike would steal it. However, the White Fang have negative feelings against humans. So that's where he feels concerned.
"I wasn't able to get Roman, but while I was fighting the Fang. Some robot girl with the power to control floating swords and fire cables that can bring down Bullheads suddenly appeared. I already put a tracker on the limo she escaped on." Jaune finished.
Bruce closed his eyes, "Good work Jaune. Keep me updated in the meantime, I'll try to see if there's anything I can correlate on my end." He said before disconnecting.
"That is quite concerning." Alfred said.
"That's why I'm not letting Jaune work this case alone." Bruce said as he started navigating around the computer. "I'm going to send Robin with him." he said.
"On such short notice?" Alfred asked.
Bruce ignored that as he made the call.
"Hello? Bruce?" asked a whispery voice.
"Whitley, I'm going to need you to put whatever plans you have on hold." Bruce said.
Whitley sighed, "If I can escape my "family" then I accept any work, vacation and/or abroad study." he replied.
"Good, because I'm going to send you to Vale." Bruce said.
"…I said to escape my "family" Bruce." Whitley said.
Bruce looked confused until Alfred spoke up again, "Master Whitley's sister is a student at Beacon." He said.
"That doesn't matter, you're not going to Beacon specifically." Bruce said before filling Whitley in on Jaune's information.
At a warehouse in the outskirts of Vale
Roman walked inside an empty warehouse in Vale and put down a box on a table. The box itself is most likely the little bit he gained from his attempted robbery at the docks. However, as Roman was about to leave, he heard the sounds of movement in the room.
"I know, I know, it's almost nothing. It's not my fault you wanted to work with the mutts from the White Fang." Roman said as he turned around.
Only instead of expecting his business partner or anyone he recognized. He came face to face with a gold eyed woman in a black cat suit.
"Roman Torchwick I presume?" the woman asked.
"Yes. Cat fetish I presume?" Roman asked as he pointed at her outfit.
"More of an adoration really." the feline cosplayer said. "Actually, I was hoping to hit up the docks too as well as probably rob you." she said making Roman glare at her.
"Well, for your information. Things did not go as planned." Roman said.
"I know that, Boy Wonder is in town. All grown up and acting independent too." the woman said.
"Well what do you want? Can't you see I have almost nothing? Are you that greedy?" Roman asked.
The woman gave a fake laugh, "No, I'm not that desperate. In fact, I think we should work together. You're less likely to be screwed over by a bunch of kids and a boy tights. I do have experience." she explained.
Before Roman could respond, the woman quickly jumped away as she avoided a fireball.
"Business partner of yours Roman? Don't tell me you're thinking of double crossing us." said a cocky female voice.
The woman in the cat outfit jumped back down, "I know that voice anywhere." she said as she walked up to Roman's partner.. "Cinder, what a nice surprise. How many years has it been?" she asked.
Cinder was visibly shaken by the woman's appearance, "Selena?" she asked.
Selena smiled, "Don't be like that Cinder." she said. "It's rude to call your mother by her name." she said.
