Later that evening, Luna and Artemis's three biological kittens had gone to their playroom to have their own book club meeting. Elizabeth, Rose, and Quartz were currently spending time with their foster parents. Again, all the kittens were at various reading levels. Plus, thanks to the longevity of the Silver Crystal, they aged slower then normal kittens, which is why they're still kittens even though the Neo Senshi were in their teens.
The oldest Comet had selected a simple children's story for her younger sister Diana's reading level. Since she was more on a grade school level then the middle to young adult level her siblings were at. Today, the three kittens discussed the classic "The Trumpet of the Swan" by E.B. White, who also composed Charlotte's Web. Trumpet of the Swan was about a Trumpeter Swan named Louis who was born without a voice. Thus, he couldn't speak or attract a mate. So, his father swiped a trumpet to give his son a voice.
"Okay, we should remind ourselves this book took place in the 1970s when it was written. So again, people shouldn't apply modern-day logic to a different era," Comet stated right off the back. It irritated her that people continually overlooked that the book's time setting was essential! Therefore, it didn't have to match up to modern-day standards.
Asteroid nodded, "Not only do some individuals take fiction far too seriously by attempting to make it fit real-world logic? They often ignore that things change from decade to decade. Plus, various parts of the world change differently as well. The world culture isn't a universal thing. Also, since its fiction, it doesn't have to fit the limitations of real-world logic. Reading is supposed to be an escape from reality. It's not meant to be trashed talk for not fitting real-world logic."
The light gray runt of the litter glanced at her older siblings with a puzzling look. She was too young to understand their more mature points. Still, she chose to speak. "I do adore the illustrations in the book. I find they're well done."
"Yes," her black and white older sister nodded in agreement. "Yes, I do agree, little sister. The illustrations are well done and help the story tremendously. My favorite picture depicts Louis performing "Beautiful Dreamer" to the swan of his choice, Serena. It perfectly encapsulates the moment of his triumph. Furthermore, it demonstrates how far he's come and how much he loves her."
Their white and black brother said, "My favorite part is when Louis rescues the boy at the boy's camp and wins a medal for his heroics. Even if the lad doesn't like birds, he is still grateful that the swan saved his life."
"I find it frankly adorable that Louis takes it upon himself to learn to read and write. As we know, it's quite a challenge to teach someone to read or write. That's why you two are helping Liz, Rose, and Quartz learn those skills," Diana pointed out, and her sibling beamed in pride.
"Thank you for the compliment, little sister. However, can we all agree Louis's father talks a bit too much? I do feel thankful he clarified to his son that the word 'dumb' has two meanings. So, despite the old cod's talkative nature, he cares about his children's feelings. Therefore, he helps make his son feel better and says there are some advantages of not speaking. Since it makes you a good listener," Comet replied, to which her siblings nodded.
"We also see how much work and effort Louis puts into not only learning the trumpet. But he's also sincere and honorable enough to earn money to pay back the store it was stolen from and its damages. I admire those traits," Asteroid pointed out.
"I think Sam Beaver is quite a likable character for a human. He appreciates nature and finds nothing strange about the situation but accepts it! He even saved Louis's mother's life from that fox!" Diana remarked proudly.
"Yep, and he's rewarded with the cod showing off his new children to the one he owed his mate's life to. Which again is remarkably cute," giggled Comet.
"Overall, I find it a great read," Asteroid noted.
"Indeed, little brother," Comet looked at the clock. It was almost dinner time. So they wrapped up their discussion before heading to the dining room for dinner.
