Chapter 3

I exhaled my icy breath. Peril dodged like she had seen it coming. Of course, I have to inhale to start my frost breath. She must have noticed. She circled around me. Then pounced on me. I tried to dodge but she clawed my tail. I cried in pain. I turned back. Peril looked at me confused. I almost inhaled when Scarlet yelled, "Stop!" Peril and I look up in the royal box.

"Queen Burn would like Dewdrop alive. Guards!" Guards showed up behind me. "Again with the guards." I thought, as I rolled my eyes. "Throw her in the dungeon and chain her!" The guards grabbed my wings, holding me back. As they held me back, they wrapped new hot chains around my snout. They dragged me back through the doors and put me in one of the empty cells.

I sat there. My cheeks were burning. I knew the ring around my eyes was red. I touched my ear, feeling the empty space of my ear. A scar I will never regret. I turn, looking at my tail. It wasn't bleeding. In fact, it was sealed. I didn't seal the scar. I don't have heat.

"What happened?" A voice said behind me. I turned. Peril was standing behind the bars.

I pointed to myself, confused, asking if she was talking to me. She nodded.

"Yes. I'll take off your chains if you promise to answer my question."

I nodded my head.

"Okay, put your snout through the bars." I did as she asked. She held out a claw and touched the chains. I looked at her, confused. The chains got hotter and hotter. I didn't mind though. Finally they fell off.

"Finally!" I croaked. It had been a while. "Thanks." I said.

"No problem. Now, about my question?" Peril said, sitting across from me.

"Shoot." I said, rolling my jaw.

"What happened in the arena? Why didn't your tail burn?"

I stopped. "What do you mean?" I said looking at her.

She rolled her eyes. "I have flamescales. I burn dragons by touch." Then she looked at me seriously. "But why didn't you?" I knew the answer but I didn't know what to say. Burn had told me that they would find a weakness if I told them. Was that a lie?

I shrugged, as I yawned. I hadn't slept for a day and I was just in the arena. Peril looked at me in anger. Flames flickering around her. She turned.

"Fine! See if I care!" She yelled. As she walked out, I went to the corner next to the window. Sunlight streamed down on my scales. I slowly drifted off to sleep.
