CHAPTER 30
Meanwhile, in Alaska, Elizabeth Delany, aunt of Elizabeth of Hope Valle, married to Wynn Delany, had just left the church; every fifth day of every month, that couple, had a celebration. It's been twenty-three years, without any day, the suffering for the loss of her daughter was lesser. But they always had that celebration, to thank God for the time their beloved daughter stayed with them, even if it was inside her mother's belly. Both Wynn and Elizabeth Delany, even with the loss of their daughter, still had Frankison, their twin brother, the boy who grew up to be a mountie like his father. On this day, too, they enjoyed and gave thanks for the life and health of their niece Elizabeth Thatcher...
... It seemed like yesterday, when everything happened...
'It was a rainy day, on which Wynn and Elizabeth Delany were passing by the house of William Thatcher, Elizabeth's brother. Wynn needed to bring her to Hamilton, because in Alaska, there were few hospitals and little modernity, and she needed good doctors, her health was fragile and that pregnancy was complicated. Wynn was on duty in the Mountie office in Hamilton at this time. He liked the idea, his dear wife needed rest and Grace, Willian's wife, being pregnant at the same time of pregnancy, became great company. They could understand each other very well. They knew how tired each other was, they talked all the time about the children, Elizabeth loved talking to her, especially since Grace already had a daughter, Viola, and that was how she taught her a few things. They did the trousseau together, one indicating something to the other. From that day onwards, the children could be born, as both of them had been dilated for days.
Willian was a strange man, he and Wynn never got along. Since his relationship with Elizabeth began, Wynn noticed that his brother-in-law was always up to something to separate them, he never accepted that marriage, but after some time he left it aside. Wynn also realized that he had other women, but he thought it best not to talk to his wife, not wanting to add to her troubles.
Grace and Elizabeth became great friends and the birth of the children seemed to only strengthen that friendship even more.
Wynn went to work that day, with a heavy heart, he didn't want to leave his wife alone these days, but there were a lot of problems and he had to go. He got stuck in the battalion. Due to the heavy rain that day, which caused a major flood in the region. Wynn called his brother-in-law at home, and was surprised when he answered. He never got home early. But that day, he spoke slowly, but there was a certain nervousness in his words; but Willian ensured that the wives and babies were fine, and that both were sleeping peacefully.
Little did Wynn know, his wife and Grace were each in a room in labor. Willian had called the midwife, he knew that Grace's son would not have much chance of life. A few days ago, he had discovered after going to the doctor with her in pain, that due to the fight they had, where he disciplined her, he ended up hurting the baby. And that the odds weren't good. So he did everything to make the birth at home; so nothing would get out in the press. But he never imagined that his sister would also give birth to her son on the same day and almost at the same time as his wife. It was a few hours of screaming, and a lot of work between rooms. And after some time, the midwife came out and reported that both deliveries were successful. And that we had three children...
1 girl
1 boy
1 dead
Willian didn't know how to deliver that news, no one deserved that, and Wynn remembered the pain he had when conveying the stillborn child.
Wynn, to this day, always thanked William, if not for his brother-in-law helping his wife, he might have lost his little boy too. He wouldn't know what to do with the pain of losing his daughter, but everything belonged to God, only he would know why this tragedy had affected his family.
He, Elizabeth and their little baby Frankison, returned to Alaska and have settled there until today. His wife's few departures from that place were to visit her niece Elizabeth. They loved each other very much. But when the girl began to become a young lady, Grace, who had been indifferent towards Elizabeth Delany for a long time, ended their friendship, forbidding her to see her daughters and even accused her of trying to steal her daughter, as she was useless and could not keep the daughter herself alive.
Wynn, until today, could not forgive the attitude of Grace and William, who supported her. Frankison was heartbroken, he was eleven years old, and it seemed that he had lost his best friend, he loved her very much. They were bonded, born on the same day, in the same place and almost at the same minute, and even today Frankison missed her. But Willian and Grace, didn't know that their daughter Elizabeth kept in touch with them by letter every month...
And smiling, Wynn remembered her little Beth; I think it's time I paid Hope Valle a visit.
