Chapter 10

I stirred. "I'm alive." I thought. I opened my eyes. A light blue seawing with green eyes and green gills was staring down on me. I jumped.

"Hi! I'm Barnacle." He said. I slowly rose up. I was laying on a grass bed. My leg throbbed but it was better. The little seawing looked about a year old.

"I'm Dewdrop." I croaked. My mouth was dry.

"Here, I'll get you some water." He said as he walked over to a corner. It had a little stream flowing to the other side of the wall.

"Ah finally, you're awake." I turned. "And I see you have met my son, Barnacle." It was the seawing Sandstone had talked to. He had bags under his eyes. Then I remembered something. Sandstone. Where was she? "And I thought you would never wake up." He said as he headed toward the doorway.

"Wait!" I cried. I was feeling hostile. They could have killed her. Or worse, gave us away to Burn. "Where is Sandstone?"

"Who?" He asked. All I could do was growl. Steam coming from my nostrils. "Oh!" He exclaimed. "You mean the sandwing. She left a day ago. She wanted to check on her mate. That's all I know."

"How long have I been out?" I asked. He looked at me.

"Three days." He said, grave. "You were on your deathbed. Good thing Sandstone knew what the antidote was." I thought of when Burn stung me. If Sandstone hadn't warned me, I would have died. "I think you need some alone time." He said. "Oh, and my name is Manatee."

"I'm sorry I growled." I stated.

He nodded then turned to Barnacle. "Come Barnacle."

"Alright, in a sec." Barnacle responded. I turned away. "Do you have a mate?" I turned back. Barnacle smiled at me, waiting for an answer.

"Well, no." I said, turning. I didn't really get out much so I never knew anyone but the sandwings at Burn's stronghold. But he was innocent. I'll leave that out.

"I think I know a guy." He said, confident.

I smirked. "Do you now."

"Yah I do." He said, excitedly. "But you have to wait till tomorrow."

"Why?" I asked. "Because he'll be home tomorrow."

"Ah ok. Well can you at least tell me his name?" I chuckled.

"No, I want it to be a surprise." He grinned. "Now we should get some sleep." He turned toward the doorway. "Goodnight Dewdrop." He said. Then he ran off. "Night?" I thought. I must have slept longer than I thought. I limped over to the bed I had slept in. "Oh well," I yawned. Then I drifted off to sleep.
