So when I saw when I saw today's prompt I couldn't help but write this story. It's connected to my Battle of Fear and Trust story (For those of you who haven't read it, it is about Jadis being trapped in Susan's mind.) Of course, that story is all in Susan's POV and this is a chance to see what it was like for the witch being in Susan's mind. So enjoy:)
This takes place in chapter 7 of Battle of Fear and Trust called Secret Desire.
Disclaimer: Narnia and all of its characters belong to C.S. Lewis.
Prompt: Give a "bad guy's" perspective, whether Jadis, Miraz, or someone else. Are bad guys "bad" through their own eyes?
Spending eternity in a void of unbearable horror is a pleasant experience compared to being stuck in the mind of this human creature. Spending days listening to her insecure thoughts on how she looks and hearing her complaint about being trapped in this magicless world and wishing to go back to being a Queen. Not that she had any right to be a queen, she and her family had no royal blood and had no right to take my kingdom.
If I had any blood it would boil with anger at what that lion and those children took from me. How that traitor ruined my wall of ice and took my chance to take back my throne. Now I'm trapped in the mind of the older Daughter of Eve and have to watch her live her peasant life. Which is more doll than waiting a thousand years for someone to ring that bell. It would be better if I could freeze her heart and take over this body and take this world for myself. Of course, the love in her heart is too strong for me to get close to even numbing it.
"Susan!" the younger Daughter of Eve says running up to this girl and giving her a hug, as we enter the banquet hall of this human school. Having her family and friends close makes it impossible to touch her heart.
"Hello, Lucy," she says, holding her sister tight. However, she backs away when she sees other girls pointing at her and whispering to each other.
"Maybe I shouldn't hug my little sister so much, after all, none of the other girls show as much affection to their sisters." I hear her think to herself as she fixes her peasant clothes. It's one of many examples of how she had no place in a royal court. No one who calls themselves a Queen would let others intimidate them, truly a Queen is the one to set the standards for the commoners. Not the one trying to meet the standards of the commoners.
"Good morning, Nancy. Do you know what we're having today?" the girl asked the other human who was standing with them.
"I think they're serving pancakes. Sorry I didn't wait for you this morning" They go on about their tedious school lives and once again I must hear about her pointless life and her wondering why her life is pointless. Truly, are all humans this doll? I did Narnia a favor by banning these creatures.
I listen to the girl sigh, as she watches her sister grab her food. "Maybe there is something here that matters to me." The girl thinks to herself before she adds an apple to her sister's food. Making it harder for me to keep any hold on her heart. Really if I could get her away from that family and her friends her heart would be easier to freeze. I could finally be the one in charge of this body and get rid of her. All I need is to find a way to distract her. I'll have her go after something that is so shallow it will leave her feeling empty and allow me to have full control. But what can…
The girls are now sitting at a table with other girls this human felt intimidated by earlier. Although she's not intimidated now, she seems interested in their conversation.
"Did you get an invite to Betty's party?" I hear one girl say.
"Yes, I'm going with George," the other girl replies with a smile.
"You're still with him? I thought Dennis was your man now." The first one asks.
"I prefer to go with George, he is more handsome." The two girls laugh.
"I know it is rude to eavesdrop on someone else's conversation, and both of them have shown no interest in me or my friends. But I wonder what it's like to go to one of those parties and be able to wear nice clothes and have a handsome gentleman to go with. Is it any different from a ball? Would it give me a taste of a life that was taken from me? I guess I'll never know." I listen to her desire to be like those girls, and I seem to have an easier time taking hold of her heart. It looks like I found the distraction.
"What's stopping you, Daughter of Eve," I whisper to her causing her to stop eating.
"Why do I keep hearing that voice and who does it belong to?" She wonders.
Soon I'll be able to freeze her heart and take my rightful place as queen.
