Rewrite the Stars
Chapter 3
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail. This is based off the Anime Series not the Manga Series. No copyright intended. I do own the story line, because I made that all up with my brain.
I wake up with a start, I scramble out of bed and grab the closest thing near me to use as a weapon, which so happens to be a candlestick.
"Who's there?" I call out
All I hear is the rustling of someone or something getting out of their mess, whomever it was knocked into my bookshelf, my beloved books scattered everywhere. The sound of them falling echoes in my room until I hear footsteps. I grab the closest thing to me, a candleholder.
"Is alright, Luce. It's just me." A familiar voice said.
"N-Natsu?" I ask, confused.
Suddenly an orange glow had formed its way on Natsu's hand, realizing this was his magic and that this was actually fire when he held up the light so I could see. He flashed me a toothy grin and while I was happy to see him, I also got very nervous very quickly. I looked over to my door and thankful Gray had not come to see what that commotion was. During various times during the night, guards switch out to watch over me while I sleep so no suspicious people come around.
I grabbed his arm, "Natsu, you can't be here."
He smiled then pushed some hairs behind my ear, fingers warm on my cheek. "I wanted to see you. I've missed you."
I looked up at him and smiled, bringing him into a hug, "I've missed you too."
He hugged me back and I felt so happy, it's been so long since I last saw him. Being wrapped up in his arms like this brings a new kind of warmth to me that I hadn't known in a long time. I let myself enjoy the moment but not too long for I fear if I had, I wouldn't ever want to let go.
"What's this about?" I asked him, pulling away from the hug to look at his face.
He looks down then sighs, "I read your letter to my dad."
"Natsu! That was specifically meant for the king only." I said, growing irritated with his nosiness.
"Hey, in my defense, if I am to one day take my father's place and become king, I am going to need to know everything that happens between our kingdoms. I can deal with the politics of it." He grumbled, then slumped down on my sofa.
I sighed and touched his arm, comfortingly. "It's not that I didn't think you could handle the politics of the situation. I know you are capable of handling things but I didn't want to tell you because I knew what you'd do if you found out…." I tried to explain, trailing off then looking down as I was suddenly lost for words.
He stiffened and sat back up, carefully brushing stray hairs aside and tracing the bruise on my neck from that man. "You're right. Good thing you had him immediately taken care of or I would've incinerated him."
I looked up at him, shocked at the sincerity and vicious intent in his voice. His eyes filled with so much fierceness, I swear I could see the flames forming in them. I leaned into his hand and closed my eyes, smiling a little at him.
"That'd be a little overboard don't you think?"
He scuffed, "Nothing is too overboard when it comes to protecting my future queen." He said, lifting me up and spinning me around, causing me to laugh.
I hit his arm, "Put me down. And when did I agree to become your queen?"
"You didn't have to, I already know. You just can't resist me, no matter how hard you try." He said, smirking.
I smiled and giggled at him being so shameless and matter of fact, "Oh you think so huh?"
He smirked and leaned down closer to me, our lips merely inches apart now. His eyes staring into mine, I took a sharp breath getting nervous at his actions. Him being in love with me is nothing new, every letter he'd written me since he confessed when he was 15 always ended with him saying I love you. But for him to act on his feelings is something he hasn't ever done before, yes we have secret meetings like this at times but he has always respected me enough to not push anything. Especially because he knows how afraid I am of what my father will do once he finds out the dragon prince is in love with his daughter. I haven't even told him I reciprocate his feelings, but I suppose I don't have to. This man can read me like a book.
"Uh N-natsu? Wh-what are you doing?" I ask, biting my lip.
He grins at me before pulling away then laughs, "See? I told you."
I frowned and smacked his arm for messing around. Just then a knock sounded at my door and I let out a gasp.
"Princess? Are you alright in there? I heard voices." Gray shouts through the door.
I look at Natsu then I grab his hand and rush him back over to my window in a panic, if Gray comes in here and sees Natsu he is going to lose his shit. I'd like to avoid any fights if possible so as to not alarm my father. If he were to see Natsu here, in my bedroom alone no less, he'd have his head. Though it would be unintentional, Gray knows about my secret with Natsu and has met him a few times while accompanying me on our secret meet ups. They've never exactly gotten along.
"You have to leave, now." I told him.
"Pfft, I can take that Ice freak no problem." He states, proudly.
I pout at him and shove his arm, as he's now squatting in the window frame. The moonlight makes his salmon pink hair shine like pearls, his eyes bright and with a smile that makes me want to melt then and there.
"Natsu be serious, please. I don't want my father to-" I start to say but cut myself off as a lump formed in my throat unable to get the words out.
Natsu's face softened and kissed my forehead. "Alright I'll go. I love you, Lucy."
A tear fell from my eye, "I love you too, Natsu." I finally said it, unable to keep it to myself any longer. My heart aches everytime I try to hold back and the thing is, I don't want to hold back anymore.
He grinned at me then pulled the back of my head to him, fingers gripping my hair as he brought me in for a kiss. My eyes grew wide from the shock but then I soon gave in and kissed him back. It was gentle and passionate all in one but it was fleeting, I opened my eyes to see his dragon form flying off into the night.
*No one's P.O.V*
"Jude. Juuuude. Wake up!" a voice spoke in the darkness of the king's chambers.
The king gasped as if he were just taking breath for the first time and shot up in his bed, looking out at the dark figure on the wall.
"It's you." The king shouted breathless as he was woken so violently.
The figure chuckled darkly, "Of course it's me."
"What do you want?"
"It is not what I want but what you need to hear. Word has gotten around that your little princess had been summoned to deal with a couple of drake this afternoon."
"I already know all that."
"Then I'm sure you already know that she let them go. My mistake."
The king narrowed his eyes at the figure and scuffed at the news, "She wouldn't dare. She knows the law."
The figure chuckled darkly and moved about the room. "That didn't stop her. Now I hear folk calling her the drake lover among other unsavory names."
"No! That can't be. I won't allow that kind of talk about my daughter in my own kingdom!" The king yelled, outraged that anyone would dare defile his daughter's character and name.
"Yes, Jude. We can't have that, can we?"
"No! I won't stand for it!"
The figure chuckled, drinking up the king's rage. Giving it a new feeling of euphoria.
"Good, the little brat needs to learn her lesson, don't you agree?"
"Y-you're right. Maybe some time away from the palace will do her some good." The king muttered, pacing the room, waving his finger as he thought about just what he was going to do.
"Wonderful." The figure said, then laughed maniacally before fading out from the room.
