GonkDroid3000: Well, I actually plan to do both stories. I was just wanting to know what you readers thought of the ideas.
Disclaimer: I do not own The Inheritance Cycle. I only own the OC Michael/Ancalagon.
A groan left Ancalagon as he came back to consciousness, his eyelids slowly opening and blinking when he was met with light. Slowly and steadily, he pushed himself onto his feet.
Ancalagon!
His vision was then obscured by blue scales as Saphira nuzzled against his neck.
Don't you ever scare me like that again, understand? She sternly told him as she began to fuss over him like a mother hen... um... dragon. He rose to his feet, attempting to still the shaking of his limbs, and managed to hide the sign of weakness, if only barely.
Understood. Ancalagon managed a chuckle and rolled his stiff neck and legs. He looked around and saw they were in the woods, not Yazuac. Brom and Eragon were asleep and Brom's wound had been tended to by Eragon it seems. I suppose Eragon awakened.
Yes, thank you. Saphira said and gave him a grateful nuzzle on his cheek, much to his surprise but he was too weak to protest such action. After I put Brom here, Eragon came and told me to go get you. You weren't exactly light, you know.
Are you calling me fat? He playfully growled at her, to which she lightly nipped him with her teeth.
Yes. She playfully said with a melodic chuckle. Ancalagon chuckle as well and sighed as he laid down. Saphira laid beside him and moved his head up so it can rest on her neck and she draped her wing over his body as best as she can.
Saphira...
Shh... She shushed him softly. Rest now. You are still exhausted and weak from giving energy to Eragon. Sleep, I'll be here.
Ancalagon sighed but closed his eyes, subconsciously nuzzling the top of Saphira's head before his breathing changed, indicating he had fallen asleep. Saphira hummed in content and felt her own eyes closing as her tail softly rubbed his.
The next morning, Ancalagon woke well rested and his strength back. The first thing he did was go hunting to satisfy his hunger. He caught a buck that didn't get far from him. He grabbed another deer for Saphira, imagining that she would be hungry as well, as well as to pay her back for being worried about him and being beside him last night.
They enjoyed a rather uneventful evening, at least, until Brom tested Eragon's magical ability with the "levitating the pebble" test. Eragon's eyebrows furrowed in concentration as he reached for his magic. Ancalagon was startled when, instead of the pale glow, the silvery mark on Eragon's palm glowed with a brighter silver light. The stone suddenly shot high into the air, leaving a trail of silver sparks.
Brom gaped, eyes wide as he watched the pebble disappear from sight in the sky. "What in the gods name was that? You shouldn't have that much control over your magical power yet!" he said, surprise very evident in his voice.
"According to Saphira, Ancalagon gave me some energy back in Yazuac." Eragon replied.
Brom spun to look at Ancalagon, "That's impossible! Dragons can't control a flow of energy to anyone but their riders! It was a spell enacted ages ago, in order to prevent dragons stealing energy from rival riders. It should have pushed him out of Eragon's mind immediately!"
Saphira jumped in at this point, Well, technically, it did. I provided a bridge by which Ancalagon could flow energy into Eragon's mind.
Brom stroked his beard, deep in thought. "I... guess that's possible..."
Now that the matter had been explained, the rest of the evening passed as usual. Brom sparred with Eragon, this time receiving some welts in return.
Saphira nodded towards her rider. You are getting better, little one.
"Thanks, Saphira, but I still lost." Eragon said, tossing the stick away.
Successes are not always counted by the actual outcome. said Saphira before she got up and went over to Ancalagon who was laying down once more, but he looked up upon her arrival and Saphira felt her heart skip a beat when those gorgeous orange-yellow amber-like eyes stared into her sapphire blue ones. She laid beside him. How are you feeling?
Better. Ancalagon said before he let out a sigh. The meal helped as well as the night's rest. though I suppose, having you for a pillow helped as well.
Saphira nudged him playfully, causing him to chuckle and she joined in for a bit. The two settled into a comfortable silence and laid their heads down. Ancalagon then exhaled, which let out a puff of smoke through his nostrils, which then got caught in the wind and drifted past Saphira, who stiffened, wide-eyed as she took in its aroma. All of this was unseen by Ancalagon who was staring into the campfire.
I'm sorry I worried and scared you, Saphira. Ancalagon suddenly said, causing her to look at him to see he was still staring at the campfire. That... wasn't my intention.
I'll admit, I was scared when you wouldn't wake up, but I am grateful you are still alive after that experience. Saphira said as she shuffled closer until their sides touched, but Ancalagon didn't object. Just... don't try and put yourself in such a situation like that again? I... I can't bear to lose the only other dragon that's free, the only other dragon I call a friend...
Ancalagon looked at her, his eyes softening at seeing how worried she was and he nodded, his tail brushing against her and Saphira took a chance by coiling her tail around his, much to his surprise but he said nothing. He simply laid his head down, as Saphira did the same, inches away from his own... but then she lifted her head and placed it atop Ancalagon's head.
Saphira-
I allowed you to rest your big head on top of mine like a pillow. It's my turn tonight. She said, causing Ancalagon to roll his eyes but he felt... glad at this action. he ignored the feeling blooming within him and closed his eyes to sleep for the night...
I know, I know, short chapter. But I figured having another sweet moment between Ancalagon and Saphira is worth it.
So the two story ideas I mentioned in the last chapter, I intend to do both of them at some point. Maybe together after I've finished with the current eight stories I've got left to work on including this one.
