And that terrified him. (Set in s02e10. Trickler's entertainment for the feast reminds Merlin that he's not the biggest fan of fire.)

This is a fix-it fic to repair this most frustrating and least consistent of all Merlin episodes. Arthur thinks. Merlin hurts. Gwen warms up. Sticks with canon until it can't anymore (due to consistency!) and sends Camelot on a better trajectory. PLENTY of growth, hurt and comfort to go around. Not a reveal.

As sure as he might be that Morgana was just lying and playing games, he could never really tell what was passing through her head – let alone what was in her heart.
