Sequel to A Mishap From A Summer Night
Twirling a pen in her hand, Caitlyn sighed. She practically dropped her elbow on her desk before resting her chin on it. After pondering for a second, she grumbled out loud before allowing her hand to sketch a face. Her mind was distracted, only focused on her thoughts as the leaves rustled in the wind just outside her window sill. She mindlessly stared at the sketch before dragging her pencil back and forth as the jawline of this face. Once she was satisfied with the shape, she shaded in the contours before smudging the graphite lightly with her finger.
It's been a few weeks since she had run into Vi in her hometown, Piltover. She would have never predicted that a Zaunite would be in her town. On a normal basis, she would have been mortified because of the various things she had to lose, namely her honor by sullying her family name and the number of scandals that would come…
An upper-class elite shagging it up with an undercity resident? The tabloid would never let it slide however, what stunned Caitlyn the most was simply her appearance. She never dreamed of running into this omega again.
Caitlyn blinked, staring at the sketch before looking back and forth between the two faces she drew on her notepad. Tapping her finger repeatedly, she breathed out a heavy breath before sighing and tossing her pencil on the paper. She then crossed her hands behind her head before leaning back in her seat. Breathing heavily again, she let out another breath before standing up from her seat. She then wrapped her arms around her sides before pacing around her room. After a moment of walking around, she groaned out loud before walking back to her desk to look at the sketch.
"It's not possible…"
She thought back to that night, about three years ago in the summer. The night she had been intimate with the most attractive omega alive. There was this charm and this confidence that jerked around her inner alpha. Neither of them was in their rut or heat either so nothing she was thinking made sense. It was virtually impossible to impregnate an omega under such conditions so why was this ridiculous thought grabbing the back of her mind?
Vi.
That was the name of her omega—no she wasn't her omega. She was just an omega whom she happened to share a breathtaking and fabulous night with. But… it didn't help that Caitlyn couldn't forget about her no matter how hard she tried. No one she had slept with afterward during the past three years could replace let alone compare with her.
It wasn't even a question.
She hadn't even intended to mark Vi with her scent that night either; however, as the night grew longer, the more it drove Caitlyn's instincts crazy. How badly she wanted to bite and claim the omega that night. She had to will herself not to. It was a miracle she didn't bite her neck really. What she wasn't expecting, however, was her inability to pull out when she came. Normally, she was courteous. She would always pull out of her bedroom partners out of cleanliness and manners.
But she couldn't do that with Vi.
A part of her cursed herself that night for spilling her load into her womb practically every time. However, the moment she had time and time again, Vi gave her reasons to carry on with what she was doing. From there, everything went downhill and Caitlyn couldn't stop herself. Her hard-on never went away and she got lost learning and devouring this omega's body.
After spending the best night of her life with this omega, her inner alpha wouldn't accept anyone else. No one else could satisfy her. This was the sad and brutal truth since no one could please her the way she had. Caitlyn even had wet dreams that haunted her nights often. Dreams about rutting in her and knotting her so that her belly was filled to the brim with her cum. Her dream persona made certain that this omega would bear a litter of pups.
But they weren't mated.
Hell, they hadn't even known each other's names. So, given their circumstances, it was impossible for her to have been pregnant. Right? But then why did Vi have a daughter who looked just like her as a child? And the fact that she had turned three not too long ago? They had their one-night stand just a little under four years ago. This was all too much to be a coincidence let alone the way her parental instincts flared when she saw Iris.
It couldn't be…
Caitlyn sighed before rubbing her face. She then looked at the sketches of the two faces in her notebook: Vi and Iris. Her face wavered and she slammed the notebook shut before turning around and walking away. She needed to get out. She needed a distraction. There was no way in hell that Vi had given birth to her pup and that was final. In no time, Caitlyn changed into casual wear and headed to a pub.
xXx
Groaning under the shade of a column, Caitlyn pitched the bridge of her nose. She massaged her temples before perking up when someone tapped a cup of coffee against her arm.
"Well, don't you look like a mess?"
Glancing at the source of the voice, Caitlyn grabbed the cup of coffee out of his hand. "Thanks, Jayce." She then took a sip before glaring at the ongoing crowd. "You're a lifesaver."
He smiled before handing her a paper take-out bag and a pack of pills. "I thought you could use these too."
Caitlyn practically groaned in bliss as she accepted his gifts. She popped some pills before drinking about half her coffee. She then opened the bag before taking a hefty bite of the croissant.
Jayce raised an eyebrow before asking, "What's going on?" He shifted in place while eyeing her suspiciously. "You seem… off."
This time, Caitlyn shot him a glance. Her nose scrunched before she sighed and avoided eye contact. "It's nothing, I just drank too much last night."
That made his eyes widen. "You? Drink too much? Before a work night?" He then crossed his arms as if he was striking a point. "No offense Cait but that doesn't sound like you. Did something happen?"
Caitlyn still couldn't look him in the eyes as she continued drinking her beverage with small sips.
"Cait…" Jayce started in his 'big brother' voice. "You know you can talk to me if you need to get something off your chest."
Stubbornness stopped Caitlyn from spilling out her guts and feelings.
"Come on, I'm on your side, you know that."
This awkward tension made Caitlyn's body tense before she shut her eyes and took a deep breath. She took one more before finally facing Jayce and bluntly asking, "Do you how likely it is for an alpha to impregnate an omega when neither are them is in their rut or heat?"
Jayce immediately made a confused face but answered her factually nonetheless. "There's about less than a 5% chance." He let the silence hang there for a second before pushing, "Why…? Did you…?"
"No!" Caitlyn quickly denied, "I didn't." Her voice was firm but her eyes were uncertain. "I didn't."
"Woah woah," Jayce brought his hands up in surrender. "I was just joking, no need to get all aggressive." He chuckled while shifting in place before resting a hand on her shoulder. "Even if you did by chance, let's say… put your load in an omega." That phrasing immediately made Caitlyn groan and turn away, brushing off his hand. "There is no way you could have impregnated an omega. It's unheard of."
That made Caitlyn turn back and face him. "You think so?"
He just nodded. "I know so." He then crossed his arms before starting, "Statistically speaking, I have not seen or heard of any cases of such. I highly doubt that whatever you're going through is… something to be worried about."
Caitlyn held eye contact with him before letting out a sad breath. "But you didn't see her Jayce. Her reaction… the omega's reaction and her daughter, that child, she… she looked like a splitting image of me as a child. I'm not blind, I know what I saw and the timing… It's too much to be a coincidence."
"You're serious?" Jayce cocked an eyebrow.
She just nodded. "I wish I wasn't, I just… I can't shake this feeling off my chest that if I don't try and find out, I'll regret it. I want to make sure that she isn't and the worst that can happen is that I embarrass myself for a silly mistake and apologize before moving on with my life."
Jayce saw the honest concern on his best friend's face. After a second, he huffed before giving in. "Alright, I'll see what I can do to help you. What do you know about these… two?"
Pulling down her hat to cover her eyes, Caitlyn took a deep breath, remembering the omega's soft features and her daughter. "Her name is Vi and her daughter's name is Iris. She just turned three years old recently and they're both from Zaun." She shot Jayce a look when he shot her a look. "What?"
"From Zaun?"
"And what are you trying to imply?"
"Nothing, I just wasn't expecting that, that's all. This will… make things more complicated. Care to share more details?"
Caitlyn rolled her eyes. "Just under four years ago, I went to a club in Zaun. There, I came across an attractive omega, and well… we spent the night together." Her jaw clenched when she remembered how Vi felt wrapped around her body. "I didn't exchange a word with her that night and when I woke up the next morning, she was gone. We were both on the same page," she looked at Jayce before finalizing. "I never expected to see her again and well… I ran into her at the spring festival bazaar with a child that looks just like me."
Thankfully, Jayce didn't comment on any funky details. "I see… so you slept with an omega named Vi… who has a daughter named Iris who looks just like you…" He rubbed his chin before giving her a warm smile. "Alright, understood. Zaun. I'll do my best to gather information on her although you'd probably have more luck in that regard considering your position…"
"I'm trying to keep a low profile Jayce…" Caitlyn interjected with a shake of her head. "I can't be going around using my authority for private matters. Regardless of position, this matter has to be kept private. My mother would not approve of this… predicament."
He nodded in understanding. "I know, I'll do my best."
xXx
Sitting on the table in Jayce's workshop, Caitlyn flipped through some paperwork. The stack in her hand was honestly pitiful because it wasn't that big despite this being all the information she had gathered on Vi in the past month. She had only learned a few new details about this omega. Vi was a jack of all trades, meaning she did all sorts of oddball jobs from bartending to cooking and even chuafering.
"I don't understand why it's so hard to gather information on one omega Cait… I tried everything!" Jayce exclaimed as he tossed his hands up while pacing around in a circle. "I paid people for information, I tried hiring a private investigator, I even tried searching the records but nothing!"
Caitlyn sighed before setting down the paperwork.
"And in Zaun… It's as if no one is willing to cooperate! I mean— who doesn't want money?" Jayce exclaimed in a baffled voice.
"Jayce."
"Sorry." He paused to take a deep breath, "It's just frustrating you know? I just find it hard to believe that we can't dig up any sort of real information despite our backing and resources."
She took in the information, letting it sink in, before reasoning. "Maybe there's a reason why…"
"What sort of reason can there be?" Jayce asked back.
"Perhaps it's something we're… overlooking," Caitlyn said in a calm and collected voice.
Jayce basically snapped at her from frustration. "I'm fairly certain we've looked everywhere."
That comment made Caitlyn snort. "I should be the one who is frustrated."
He rolled his eyes. "How are you so level-headed?
She just shrugged. "Maybe we're going about this the wrong way."
"What do you mean?"
"Maybe… maybe we put out a notice for work." Jayce only blinked at her before she expanded, "We put out a job notice and hire Vi for a job. You did say she did odd jobs."
"I did but what are you planning? There is no way she will accept a job from you if she realizes it's you."
Caitlyn smirked at him. "That's why you're going to put in the request."
His face scrunched. "Me? And what am I gonna hire her for?"
"Anything really, surely you can think of something as a future engineer." She mused back with a coy smirk.
He sighed before rubbing his face. "Alright fine, I'll take care of it but you owe me."
She gave him a sweet smile. "Thank you Jayce, it means a lot."
xXx
"No deal pretty boy, just go back to your nice little mansion and go suck a lemon." That was all that Jayce got after he recited his great speech on trying to hire this 'Vi' for a job in the upper side of town.
His eyebrow twitched and he took a deep breath, in and out through his nose before shifting in his seat. "Please, I promise you I mean no harm. I was just…" he thought back to Caitlyn before sighing and sliding forward a small bag of gold coins on the table. "I just need…"
Vi shifted in her seat before eyeing the bag. She then shot him a glare before leaning back in her chair with confidence. "I get it… You want me to steal something important for you."
He tensed up in his seat. "Well uh…"
"Let me guess, some elite chump that you have beef with." This time Vi leaned forward with her legs spread apart as a sign of power. "Alright," she snatched the bag on the table and placed it in her jacket pocket. "I'll take this as a down payment and after I get you what you want, I expect double. Just tell me where and what and I'll get it done for you in a week."
His eyes widened. Well, this was different from what he was expecting. "That's— I—"
Vi slid a piece of paper forward with a pen, "Go on."
"..." Jayce breathed out a heavy breath before grabbing the paper and scribbling down an address. He slid it back and Vi looked at the information before tucking it into her pocket.
"Alright." She then nodded her head toward the door.
Blinking once, Jayce leaned back before looking around the pub. He finally noticed the piercing eyes and shifting goons. They all looked as if they were eyeing him like a hawk, ready to jump at their prey. That's when he realized something. This pub… this bar was her playing ground and he had walked into her domain. Even if he was one of the few alphas in this room, he could tell he would be overpowered if he were to try to hurt or harm Vi in any way. He stood up without further notice. However, just before he was out of earshot, he turned to face Vi and take a good look at her one last time.
"I'll be expecting good news."
He pulled his hood over his head before walking out the door. By the time he made it back home, he went straight to the address he wrote on the paper. The Kiramman Residence, aka, Caitlyn's room. He had to admit, it wasn't his best moment. He panicked and ended up writing down Caitlyn's address.
It was her fault really.
A little heads-up would've been nice. He would have loved to know that his best friend's possible mate or whatever was on the intimidating side. Since when did omegas look so intimidating? And when did they have an entire damned possy backing her up? Either way, he did his part so Caitlyn could deal with the aftermath.
xXx
"You did what?!" Caitlyn exclaimed with widened eyes. "You gave her my address and told her to come to my house and steal something for you?! What in the world were you thinking!"
He just shrugged his shoulders. "What I panicked okay? You didn't tell me she had a possy."
Her face scrunched in confusion. "She what?"
"A possy. I am telling you Cait, the whole pub she was in had her back or something! They all looked like they were about to jump me. What is she? A delinquent?"
That made Caitlyn immediately growl. "Don't call her that."
He raised his hands in surrender before sighing out loud. "Look, I'm just trying to warn you to be careful. We don't know who she is or how dangerous she might be."
The look on her face never changed. "She's not dangerous Jayce." She took a deep breath before exhaling a sigh. "Aside from that, I suppose I should prepare whatever she's 'supposed' to steal from me. What did you even tell her to steal?"
"A music box."
That made Caitlyn's face deflate in disbelief. "Really? A music box?"
"I couldn't think of any better!"
Sighing again, Caitlyn just shook her head. "Great what am I supposed to do now…"
"Talk to her of course."
"And say what? Did I knock you up three years ago and is Iris my pup?" Jayce just shrugged with a nod. "Don't be ridiculously Jayce, I can't do that!"
"And why not? If your goal is to confirm whether or not her daughter is your pup, it's better to be blatant about it."
"But—but what if she says—" Caitlyn cut herself off in fear of saying her most feared thought. She wasn't ready to be a sire. She hadn't thought about raising a child. "What if she says yes?"
Jayce looked her straight in the eyes before repeating her question. "What if she says yes?" He then walked over and grabbed her shoulder, "What are you going to do Caitlyn?"
She looked like a child that was getting scolded. "I… I don't know."
"Well… you should think about it. I'm sorry I put you in this situation but you need to decide on what you are going to do from here on out. If that child, Iris, is really your daughter… what will you do?"
Breathing in a deep breath, Caitlyn pinched the bridge of her nose. "I need to think about this."
This was hands down the most complicated and troubling notion that has ever happened in Caitlyn's life. The first time she experienced a rut, outside of her hometown on some field trip at that, could never compare to this. Even talking back and standing up for herself with her own mother seems like child's play at this point. What was she going to do? How much she wanted to know the answer behind that.
And just like that, one night passed and then another and another until finally, a subtle noise made Caitlyn look up from the desk in her office. She looked toward the direction it came from which was toward her room. It couldn't be… she put out the candlelight before cautiously making her way back. It was as quiet as ever, like no one was home, however, for some reason, Caitlyn had almost this certainty that it was Vi.
Her fist clenched.
She had been mentally preparing herself to meet Vi and speak to her but even after all the prep talk, she wasn't ready. She wasn't ready to learn the truth because if it was what she feared… she would be a sire to a child she never dreamed of having. A child who she had been absent in her life for more than three years.
How would she make that up?
To her child and the woman who gave birth to her, Vi. How would she make it up to her? For all the days she had been absent during her pregnancy and all the pain and suffering she had to deal with alone. Caitlyn knew what it meant to be isolated and alone. The feeling of being disconnected from the world where no one understood you. She knew that firsthand.
Caitlyn's hand stopped on the door handle. If she opened this door and if Vi was inside, her future was going to change. Not as Caitlyn Kiramman but as Caitlyn. It was her doing and her actions that put herself into this situation that didn't stem from the Kiramman name. She took a deep breath before twisting the knob. The door inched open and she stepped inside with caution.
Her eyes quickly scanned the room but she didn't see anyone. Strange, maybe her mind was playing tricks on her from being tense all the time but she could've sworn that she heard and felt someone. Perhaps all the stress from the past few days was taking more of a toll than she thought. She shook her head before doubling checking the bathroom and dressers.
Closing the door to her walk-in closet, Caitlyn sighed. She really was imagining things. No one was there so with a frown she made her way toward the door, however, the moment she pulled the door open, she froze when she heard a noise. She quickly turned her head before seeing a familiar shade of red. Her eyes widened in shock.
"V-Vi?"
She couldn't quite see her expression hidden in the darkness but she could tell that Vi was equally shocked.
"C-Caitlyn?"
Vi whispered "Shit" out loud before immediately pivoting around and running for the window.
Caitlyn jumped before rushing forward and calling out with her. "W-Wait! Can we talk?" Vi's hand and foot were on the window sill. Something in Caitlyn's chest dropped before she spoke in a dominant yet desperate voice. "Please."
That made Vi stop.
She froze but for some reason, Caitlyn felt like it was as if she was waiting for another command. That's when she realized that she was subconsciously exerting pressure with her alpha pheromones. Clearing her throat, Caitlyn willed herself to relax. She took a few deep breaths before straightening her posture. She didn't mean to make Vi submit to her but she guessed her instincts were giving her the extra push she needed.
"I have a question for you."
Vi's hand gripped the window harder, trembling in the process.
"I…" Caitlyn's gaze fell as she bit her lip. "You…" She breathed in before taking a few steps forward. "Is Iris my pup?"
There. She said it.
That made Vi practically buck at her knees. "I— what?"
She stared at the back of Vi's head before repeating herself. "Is. Iris. My. Pup."
She stared fumbling on her words. "I— n-no of course not— why would she be—?"
"Look at me, Vi." She commanded and waited for Vi to turn around. She looked her dead in the eyes before starting, "I won't question why you're in my room," because she already knew, "and I know what I am saying sounds preposterous however, considering the circumstances… she looks just like me as a child. She even has my hair color and facial structure."
Vi's eyes kept shifting around, she had a hard time looking Caitlyn in the eyes but also couldn't look away. She was clearly scared, Caitlyn could smell it, and that made her inner alpha want to protect her, soothe her, and calm her down. There wasn't a reason for her to be scared. Caitlyn wasn't going to be mad or harm her. She just wanted to know the truth. She prayed that Vi would say no because if she said yes then…
"What do you want from me…?" She stared in a quiet and quivering voice, "My baby has nothing to do with this."
Caitlyn's nose flared. She didn't care about petty crimes. "You know what I am referring to Vi. We slept together a little under four years ago and considering the time you may have conceived, she would've been born sometime last month around the time we ran into each other. And, from what I recall, you told me your daughter had turned three the week prior. I am smarter than I look, Vi, I wouldn't underestimate me." That was a warning because if Caitlyn had really exhausted all of her resources, she would have had an answer by now.
Vi's breath hitched. She had the most pained face that almost made Caitlyn's heart break. "I…" She closed her eyes before letting out a breath of defeat. "She's yours."
All the tension in Caitlyn's body dropped and her ears started ringing. It was as if her soul parted from her body, watching this moment from an omniscient point of view. Her mouth parted and she stared at Vi dumbfounded, repeating her words time and time again in her head as if she needed to confirm what she had said. She's yours. She's yours. She's yours. What she feared to be true was confirmed. She sobered up and everything snapped back into place.
Caitlyn was a sire.
She had a pup.
She had a daughter whom she had been absent from her life for more than three years. Guilt suddenly seeped through her body as she frowned before giving Vi the most sincere look possible. Her mouth opened and desperate words left them. "I'm sorry."
Vi twitched and her face fell.
Caitlyn quickly shook her head to dismiss whatever she was thinking. "I'm sorry for leaving you alone these past few years. I should've been there for you, with you, and supported you when you needed me." She began walking closer until finally, she was a few steps away from Vi and she brought her hand up to touch her skin before hesitating when Vi took a step back. She ended up clenching her hand before pulling away. "I…" She looked down at the floor in shame. "Why didn't you find me?"
"Find you?" Vi snapped out of the blue. "You think I didn't try?!" Her voice rose before she took a heavy step forward, making Caitlyn fall back. "I searched every nook and corner of Zaun. Hell, I even went back to the bar and hideout we fucked in for months until I gave birth. I tried Caitlyn, I tried so excuse me if I couldn't find you in Piltover because it didn't occur to me that a Piltie fucked the living lights out of a Trencher!"
Frowning at the slur, Caitlyn disapproved. "Don't call yourself that."
That only made Vi angrier. "Oh please, you Pitlies don't give a rat's ass about us Zaunites." She pushed Caitlyn back with a rough jab to the shoulder. "I bet you're thrilled to know you knocked up an omega whose name you didn't even know at the time. You alphas are quite something, you must be proud to know you impregnated me without either of us being in their rut or heat!"
Something inside of Caitlyn snapped. "Watch. Your. Tongue." She warned in a deep voice with a slight growl. "Do not mock me, Vi. If I had known you were bearing my pup, I would've taken responsibility and cared for you. I admit, I fucked up by never giving you my name or any sort of way to contact me." She took a step forward, making Vi falter back. "I should have gone back maybe once or even twice to look for you, however, we both know that was supposed to have been a one-night stand so pardon me for being absent." She practically hissed her last few words.
"I am sorry for not being there and I can never make up the time I was gone. However…" This time she brought up her hand and gently brushed the back of her hand against Vi's cheek before speaking in a much more gentle voice. "However… if you will allow it, I would love to be there for you, for Iris." She looked into Vi's eyes with a much gentle look. "I want to take responsibility for what I've put you through."
Vi's eyes shimmered with various emotions and tears that threatened to spill. Her eyes wavered and it was as if she was fighting this inner turmoil after being hit by an unexpected bomb. "I—" she choked on her words before nervously swallowing her words. "I…"
Caitlyn pulled back her hand. She took a step backward to give her some space. "You don't have to give me an answer now. Just think about it… please. That's all I ask."
"..." Vi just stared at her silently. "I… I will. I'll think about it and I'll let you know my decision in let's say… a week?"
That made the weight in Caitlyn's chest lighten, even if by only a smidge. "That's perfect, thank you, Vi. I can meet you anywhere in Zaun if you'd like and if not, I can pay for you here in Piltover."
Vi just stared at Caitlyn silently. It was as if she pondering her options before finally coming up with an answer. "Piltover would be nice… I… I have to think about what to do with Iris."
Caitlyn swallowed the lump in her throat. Now that she discovered she had a pup, her selfish greed as the sire wanted to see her baby girl, however, she knew Vi wouldn't like that so she resisted. She clenched her hand, digging her nails into the skin of her palm. She ended up thanking her again with as much sincerity as she could convey. "Thank you, Vi, I truly mean it. Thank you for giving me a chance to better myself as a sire."
The way her beautiful grey eyes glimmered beneath the moonlight never looked so alluring before.
Vi bit her lip before turning away. "I… I'll think about it." She stepped in front of the window before grabbing the frame. She then took a step on the window sill before hoisting herself halfway through, "What's your telegram info…?"
That snapped Caitlyn out of whatever paralysis that kept her a bay. "Of course—" she practically sprinted to her desk before snatching a pen from her desk and tearing off a piece of paper from her notebook. She quickly scribbled down her number before rushing back to Vi's side. She then handed her piece of paper before looking at her with a desperate face. "Please… message me." She didn't know where that plea came from but she had a feeling if she didn't, she might not hear from her again.
Accepting the piece of paper, Vi safely tucked it in her jacket's pocket before softly replying. "I will…"
With that last phrase, the omega hopped down and ran away. Caitlyn could only watch her backside as she disappeared into the darkness of the night. Once she was completely gone, Caitlyn took a deep breath before sighing and rubbing her face. She then turned around and walked over to her bed before falling back-side onto it. Groaning to herself, so couldn't let go of her face. She breathed in before speaking to herself.
"I'm a sire…"
Her heart was thumping so loudly that she could only hear the pounding in her chest in this deafening room.
"I'm a sire…"
