Jason Grace woke up in a green pasture. The occasional tree covered the lush green grass. The sun was shining bright in the blue sky.
Groggy from his nap, he stretched out his arms and yawned. I was napping? Jason was suddenly confused. What was happening? Why was he sleeping in this pasture? How did he get here?
He tried to remember the last thing that happened to him. Nothing came to him but a headache. What in the world?
This wasn't his first time being dropped in an unfamiliar place. Hera, the queen of the gods, had wiped his memory and placed him on a bus headed for the grand canyon. All this to send him to Camp Half-Blood to befriend his Greek counterparts and defeat Gaia.
I can't believe she would pull something like this again.
"HERA! Where am I?!" He yelled to the sky.
There was no response.
"Do you prefer Juno?" He asked sarcastically.
Silence filled the wind.
Was this her idea of a joke, when I get back to camp I'm gonna…
Before he could finish his thought, the earth began to shake. As if a giant was taking steps towards him. He reflexively got his golden coin out of his pocket. What monster was going to attack him? A ghoul? A cyclops? Just the thought of another fight exhausted him.
Despite this, he steeled himself. If he didn't take this monster down, people would get hurt. Innocent people. He couldn't let that happen.
The monster appeared in the distance. Red and black streaks of smoke flew through the sky behind it. Are those flares? Are there mortals here?
He knew the mist would take care of anything the mortals couldn't understand. He flipped the coin. Landing on heads, a golden sword sprung into his left hand. Ready to strike the monster, he took his stance.
Jason froze.
The first reason this happened was because of the monster's appearance. It was 50 feet tall, and was covered in muscle. It looked like those pictures he saw in his anatomy class, showcasing how the body would look like with no skin. Instead, it was a female version of that. Blonde hair, blue eyes.
She must be from California.
The second reason he paused was because the wind wouldn't pick him up. Being the son of Jupiter had its perks. Having inhuman strength, the ability to summon storms, and flight via the wind. Some kids back home called him the strongest demigod to ever exist. And he was inclined to agree.
However, the wind wasn't responding. He couldn't feel it like he usually could. He tried to summon Tempest, his trusty horse made out of storm clouds.
Nothing came.
Before he could respond, the monster kicked him with her gigantic legs. Jason was sent flying all right, but not by choice.
