"Don't jump."

Kendall turns from his position by the water to see a very beautiful blonde woman looking at him with a stricken expression. She looks strangely familiar.

"What makes you think I was gonna jump?" he asks.

"Your expression. You looked sad," she says matter-of-factly.

"I am sad," he replies. "But I won't jump." He's not sure if that's true.

"Good." She smiles a dazzling smile. "I'm Barbie."

He nearly laughs out loud. That's who she reminds him of. "Cool. My sister used to play with you. My brother too, actually. Well, he used to cut their heads off."

"You didn't tell me your name."

"It's Ken."

"Hi, Ken!" She smiles that dazzling smile again. "Why are you so sad?"

There are many answers to that. He picks one. "My father… passed away recently."

"Oh, I'm sorry." She looks genuinely sad for him.

"Thanks. We didn't always get on, so it's complicated."

"But you have your brother and sister to help you?"

"We're kind of not speaking at the moment."

"Oh. That's sad too."

"It's because of my father's company. I was supposed to take over. Now I don't know what I'm supposed to do."

"There must be other things you can do."

"Yeah. Technically I could do anything."

She ponders this. "You know, in my world the Barbies have all the power, and all the Kens… don't. Here it seems to be the opposite."

"Uh huh." He wonders if she's from a theme park and is still in character.

"I always thought I was helping women, making the world better for them, but it turns out I was making things worse." Her lip trembles, her huge blue eyes filling with tears.

"I'm sure that's not true. You've already made me feel better."

"Thanks, Ken. Well, it was nice to meet you." She starts to walk on in her pink heels.

"Wait," he calls after her, somehow intrigued by her. "Would you like to go for a drink?"

"Like a date?" she asks brightly.

"Yeah, sure."

"Because you should know, I don't have any genitals."

"Uh huh." She's really committed to the bit. "Me neither."

They start to walk together, away from the water's edge. A couple of builders wolf-whistle from across the street.

"Leave him alone!" Barbie yells at them. "Let's go, Ken."
