Chapter one

Inner world speech

The Black men were pretty normal, thank you very much. Well, not Zak. Zak seems to have inherited the Black family insanity, and something called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Zak's joints hurt badly all the time. Sirius, on the other hand, slowly turned more childish after the disappearance of Zak's mom.The two men lived in London, not far from the Tower of London. And that's where this story begins. Nico steps out of the fireplace into the Black Manor. "Zak?" He calls out, looking around for his best friend. The sound of magically enhanced crutches reaches Nico's ears. Zak slowly walks into view and hugs Nico.

"Are you excited about Hogwarts?"

Nico asks, grinning.

Zak shrugs and mutters "I might not be able to go this year. Dad and my healer are concerned that my joints are going to cause more problems than anticipated".

Nico frowns. "I wonder if they could maybe hold your classes on the first floor?" he says.

Zak shakes his head, "All of the houses require me to climb stairs daily. So that won't work".

A blue whispy lion appears in front of Zak, saying "Zak are you and Sirius home? I had an idea that could potentially work for Hogwarts". The lion disappears.

Zak waves his wand. A large snake appears in front of Zak. "Tell Karl that we are home," Zak tells the snake. The snake disappears.

"Do you want me to get uncle Padfoot?" Nico asks.

A look of pain crosses Zak's face. He nods, grimacing at the intense pain.

The fireplace glows green, and a man of about 45 years of age steps through. "Zak?" he says, looking concerned.

"Uncle Padfoot! Zak's hurt!" Nico yells.

Loud thumping is heard before Sirius Black steps into the room. "Oh hi, Karl?" he says looking confused.

Karl waves his wand and a bed appears in the corner of the room.

Sirius picks Zak up and places him on the bed.

Karl waves his wand and the pained look on Zak's face disappears.

Sirius looks from Karl to Zak and says "What's going on here?"

Karl says, "I think I know a way for Zak to be able to attend Hogwarts next week. I wanted to discuss it with you and Zak".

Zak sits up looking intrigued.

Sirius blinks.

"I think a magically enhanced wheelchair might do wonders for Zak," Karl says.

Sirius nods. "And I was thinking about getting him a house elf," Sirius says.

Chapter two

September 1st

"Master Zak! It is being 9:30! You is needing to be getting up now!" Mikey the house elf says.

Zak groans. "Get Dad. Now!" Zak responds, pain filling his voice.

Mikey vanished and reappears a minute later with Sirius.

"Bud?" Sirius says, still half asleep.

"I hurt everywhere! And I'm literally on the verge of sensory overload because it" Zak responds.

Sirius sighs and waves his wand.

Zak starts crying.

"Master Zak? Is Mikey needing to be packing for you?" Mikey asks.

Zak nods. "… WHERE'S MY GUITAR?!" He hisses, eye twitching.

Mikey shrugs.

Sirius walks out of the room to go get ready to leave.

Nico walks in, having just flooed over. "Hi, Zak! You left your guitar at my house last Friday" he says, handing the guitar to Zak.

Mikey finishes packing.

Sirius casts a tempus. It's now 10:35! "Zak are you ready?" Sirius says walking in. Zak nods. The three foo to King's Cross.

Time skip

"What house do you think your gonna get?" Nico asks Zak.

Zak shrugs, and says "Hopefully not Gryffindor!"

Nico snorts.

"Black, Zachary" says a tall man.

Zak rolls up to a stool in front of the entire school, and the tall man puts the a hat on Zak's head.

"Ohhhh!" A voice inside Zak's head says.

"I dont care where I go but you better put my best friend in the same house!" Zak says making eye contact with Nico. "Slytherin!" The hat yells. Zak goes over to the table that's cheering loudly, "WE GOT BLACK!"

"Lupin, Nicholas!" The man says.

Nico walks confidently up to the hat and puts it on. "SLYTHERIN!" The hat yells.

The Great Hall goes completely silent.

The man rolls up the parchment and banishes it and the hat.

Food appears on the table.

"Hey Zak, are you related to Sirius Black by chance?" A student further down the table says.

Zak nods, and says pointing to Nico, "This is Remus' son, Nico."

"oh dear! I'm Joey Armstrong" Joey says.

The tall man stands up from the head table and walks over to Zak and Nico.

"Mr. Black, my office now!" He says.

Zak looks confused but says "Yes sir" and follows him out of the Great Hall.

Joey gets up and moves next to Nico. "How long until Zak figures out who Professor Armstrong is?" He asks Nico.

"I think he already knows".

Professor Armstrong and Zak enter Professor Armstrong's office. "Do you know who your mom is?" He asks Zak.

"No sir?" Zak says blinking in confusion.

Professor Armstrong walks over to the fireplace and summons Sirius, who steps out.

"Zak?" He says. Zak stares at him with a blank look.

"Mikey!" Sirius says. Mikey appears with a pop, looks at Zak and disappears again.

"Oh hell" Sirius says.

Mikey and Karl appear with a pop.

Karl walks over to Zak and says "Zak?"

Zak doesn't respond.

"Is this normal?" Professor Armstrong says.

"No…" Karl says.

Professor Armstrong blinks in confusion.

"I believe it's a freeze response from anxiety. Where's Nico?" Karl says.

Joey knocks on the door.

"Come in?" Professor Armstrong says.

Joey opens the door, and Nico walks in.

"Mr. Lupin?" Professor Armstrong says looking over.

Joey walks back to the Great Hall.

"I was worried about Zak. Something didn't feel right…" Nico responds, glaring at Professor Armstrong.

"Detention! 50 points from Slytherin!" Professor Armstrong says, standing up.

Zak blinks, then growls. "No actually. He doesn't!" Zak hisses, glaring at Professor Armstrong.

"Oh really? Pretty sure I'm the professor here" Professor Armstrong responds.

"Oh, so your gonna punish him because he was worried about someone that he has a soul bond with?!" Zak says.

Nico blinks, saying "How do you know?"

Zak snorts, "the excessively obsessive thoughts and almost complete lack of joint issues when we are close…"

Karl blinks, "Zak, can you try walking over to Nico? I wanna see if my hypothesis is correct"

Zak nods and stands up, walking over to Nico.

"Huh…" Sirius says.

Nico blinks in confusion.

"Hold up. Do you know who my mom is?" Zak asks Professor Armstrong.

Professor Armstrong nods, "you look just like her, but you have Sirius' eyes".

Zak blinks.

Nico frowns.

"Dad?" Zak whispers trying to not cry.

Sirius says "we can talk about this later".

Zak leaves the office as quickly as he can, with Nico running after him.

"I better make sure my son is ok," Sirius says walking out of the office.

Zak and Nico walk back in the Great Hall.

"Hey Zak, you ok?" Joey says looking over.

Zak starts crying silently.

Nico says "No, he's not."

Professor Armstrong walks in and up to the head table.

Nico glares at him.

Chapter 3

"Nico, stop!" Zak hisses.

The doors to the Great Hall open with a bang.

Sirius and Remus walk in. They spot Nico at the slytherin table and walk over to him.

Nico points at the table.

Professor Armstrong walks over. "Hey, you ok? Sorry if I upset you earlier" he tells Zak. Zak shrugs, "it's fine."

The food disappears from the table.

"Not like I'm gonna hate someone from my favorite band!" Zak mutters.

Professor Armstrong sits on the bench in front of Zak.

"Come on, I want to introduce you to someone" Professor Armstrong says.

Zak blinks.

"C'mon pup," Remus says, holding out a hand.

Zak takes it. "Room of Requirements?" Sirius asks.

Remus nods.

Professor Armstrong stands up.

"C'mon Nico," Sirius says.

They walk out of the Great Hall and up to the Room of Requirement.

Zak looks around in confusion, then spots a lefty fender precision bass guitar.

Zak runs over and pokes it.

Professor Armstrong looks from Zak to the guitar.

Zak points at it, "my favorite bassist plays one of those!"

Professor Armstrong blinks.

Mikey appears and says "It is being a bass guitar, of course he does".

Zak blinks.

"No, he plays a fender precision bass. His is a righty though" he responds.

Sirius snorts in amusement.

"Zak, are you talking about Mike again?" Nico asks.

Zak rolls his eyes, "of course I am…"

Professor Armstrong walks over and says "Would you like to meet him?"

Zak just blinks, unable to say anything.

"I'm sure he would" Remus responds for Zak.

Professor Armstrong nods.

A fireplace appears.

Professor Armstrong walks over to it and summons Mike.

Mike steps through with Britney.

Zak looks over and freezes in place.

"Oh dear, Zak is no being ok!" Mikey says, walking over and patting Zak's hand.

Zak doesn't respond.

Nico looks from Sirius to Britney.

Britney walks over to Zak, and sits on the ground in front of him.

"Hi" Britney says.

Zak glares at her, saying in a voice that doesn't quite sound like his normal voice, "hi. I'm Zak Bagans, and I'm the protector in a Borderline Personality Disorder system. Zak says to tell Mike hi, by the way. He's the current host".

Nico blinks.

Zak Bagans walks out of the room taking the p-bass and amp with him, slamming the door.

"Sirius?" Britney says.

Sirius shrugs, "I have no idea. This is the first I've heard of anything…"

Professor Armstrong sighs, "at least we know Zak B doesn't hate Mike…"

Zak B walks back in. He looks around. "I feel like Zak needs to explain some things" he says.

Nico snorts, "no really?"

Zak B raises an eyebrow.

Sirius says "please do. Also that's Nico, Zak's best friend, in case you weren't aware."

Zak B collapses.

"Oh dear" Mikey says.

Zak coughs. "Mikey?" He says.

"Hi, Zak" Mike says.

Zak blushes. "So ummm…. I'm Zak and I'm the host of a BPD system. Basically the constant dislocations of my joints caused my brain to split different personalities. There's Zak B obviously, who's the verbal protector. Meaning, the body isn't threatened enough to fight back. He only fronts when I feel unsafe. Then there's Mike. Mike fronts when I'm unsafe, and need to get out of a situation. Also he's never said a word while fronting. He's the one that will just glare at people. And there's MK, the system's major trauma holder. He's never been allowed to front. Also I'm pretty sure we have a dog, since Pinny died and we never really got over it."

Mike blinks.

Nico frowns.

"Do you know who I am?" Britney says softly.

Zak looks over at her, "are you my mom?"

Britney nods.

Zak gasps, "MIKE'S MY STEPDAD?!"

Mike nods.

Zak grins. "I play a fender p bass because of you" he says, blushing.

Nico nods, "his guitar goes everywhere if he's not planning on sleeping at home, he has it with him".

Sirius says "he's only been playing for 2 years but he's incredible. No idea how though. I have no musical talent whatsoever".

Britney says "I have a little musical talent… but just how good is Zak?"

Mikey smiles, "he is being able to play any bass line after hearing it just once…"

Professor Armstrong blinks.

"I'm pretty sure he's memorized some of the vocals too…" Nico adds.

Mike and Professor Armstrong blink.

Zak shrugs.

"That's impressive, honey" Britney says, smiling.

Zak grins. He glances over at Mike.

Mike says "that's impressive, bud!"

Zak blinks. "Zak just because our stepmom is an ass and doesn't encourage you, doesn't mean anyone else won't either" MK says leaning against the stage in Zak's inner world. "No I'm just surprised Mike said he was impressed" Zak responds back through thought. "Zak! He's literally your stepdad! He seems to genuinely like you! Stop that!" MK replies.

"Maybe I'm afraid he'll hate me when he finds out about the autism! Almost everyone does!" Zak yells in frustration.

"Zak? Are you ok?" Mike asks.

Zak shrugs.

Britney pats the spot next to her. "Come here, honey. Whatever it is I'm sure Mike will accept it" she says.

Zak freezes."Are you sure?" Mik says, having just switched in. Mike nods, "Come sit, bud". "We have autism, and Zak is afraid Mike's gonna see him differently if he knows" Mik says.

"I'm assuming Zak isn't conscious right now?" Mike says, looking confused.

"No sir, he's not. I'm Mik" Mik responds.

Mike blinks, "What's autism? I'm afraid I have no idea what it is."

Nico walks over and hugs Mik. "Do you want me to explain? Or are you good?" He says.

"I think Zak can" Mik says. "It's called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It means my joints like to hurt me. It's painful, but my case is pretty mild. So it doesn't happen that often. But it will get worse the older I get. That's why I have Mikey. Not a huge deal, though" Mik says leaning against the wall.

"Is there anything I'm supposed to do if I see something happened?" Professor Armstrong asks.

Mik nods, "Get Dad, or Mikey".

Professor Armstrong nods, "Noted. By chance, do you know who Green Day is?"

Mik gets a weird look on his face.

"Oh dear" Nico says.

Sirius begins sobbing loudly.

Professor Armstrong looks over at Sirius," should I have not said that?"

Sirius, Remus, and Nico shake their head.

Mik collapses.

"Oh no" Nico says.

Mik limps across the room. "Us not know Green Day?! I fear the system may end up in your office more often than not. You and Mike are a huge reason why we are able to mask the autism, and Borderline Personality Disorder as well as we do. Zak literally has meltdowns because he thinks something happened to y'all's! Billie Joe Armstrong is literally a trigger for Zak, he's that calming. So tell me one more time we don't know who Green Day is. Oh and by the way, Zak is in his room inner world just sobbing because he's that offended. And yes, he does trust you. Our trauma holder, however trusts no one" Mik hisses out, looking quite angry.

Mike and Professor Armstrong blink.

"Uhhhh. Mik, are you ok?" Mike says.

Mik shakes his head, "Anytime Zak leaves front, it's not a good thing". "James? Do you need a hug?" Nico asks. James nods, "only from our bestie". Nico walks over and hugs James. James leans into Nico for a brief hug, "Are you ok now?" Zak nods. Zak glances at Professor Armstrong and blinks. Professor Armstrong looks over and looks concerned, "are you ok now?" "Ya, I think so. On a scale of one to ten, how bad was it?" Zak says. Britney walks over and says, "James was absolutely angry that Billie Joe implied you didn't know who Green Day was". Zak snorts,"of course he was…" Mikey glares at Zak,"you is being needing to sit, Master Zak!" Nico snorts. The Room makes a huge chair appear out of nowhere. "Even the room is being agreeing with me!" Mikey adds, looking quite smug, which looks quite odd on a house elf's face. Zak yawns loudly, with an unusual look on his face. "You should get some sleep, Zak. You look tired" Britney says. Zak nods, "a little." The room makes a bed appear, exactly how Zak likes it. Everyone goes to bed.

Chapter 4

"Mr. Black. Pay attention! See me after class" Professor Armstrong says. Zak sighs. "That's the sixth time today, are you ok?" Nico says as the bell rings."Later" Zak says, walking up to Professor Armstrong's desk. "I'll save you a seat at dinner" Nico says walking out of the room. "Sir?" Zak asks. "Have a seat. You're not in trouble" Professor Armstrong says, leaning against the closest desk. "What the hell is going on?" MK says. "No clue" Zak responds. "Talk to me. What's going on? You switched twice in the last hour. Are you ok?" Professor Armstrong says. Zak runs a hand through his hair. "I've been stressed out lately. My p bass quit working. It's the month that we got diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I think I'm developing a crush on Nico. And I'm worried about Mikey, he's been looking sick lately" Zak says, blinking back a few tears. "Have you talked to Sirius or Britney about any of this? I'm sure Mike would love to get you a new p bass" Professor Armstrong says. Zak shakes his head. "Come on, I'll help you talk to them after dinner" Professor Armstrong says.
