A/N: Here's the third chapter. It'll focus on his first week and a couple key moments in it. This will be the theme for the next chapter and the ones after that I suppose. But I hope you enjoy it and I hope you'll let me know your thoughts. Constructive Criticism only please. Thanks.
3. First Week
By his third night, and with a lot of off work hours on the cameras and studying a map, Skylar finally had the layout of the Pizza Plex down. He still got lost once or twice, but he was exceptionally pleased with his progress. It was during those nights that he finally got a routine down that worked for him as well. After two miserable hours of dealing with co-workers who were still not tired of trying to get a rise out of him, nighttime protocol kicked in and he would start his night in the Day Care and follow the same route he had his first night on shift.
Day Care. Kids Cove. Rock Star Row. Fazer Blast. Roxy Raceway. Monty Golf. Bonnie Bowl. Faz-Cade. Mazercise. The Prize Counter. He'd take care of all of the little side areas that weren't locked up tight when he was on their floors. Then he would make his way through the utility tunnels and basement areas before his shift was over for the night.
The first animatronics that Skylar interacted with once nighttime protocol kicked in was usually Sun and Moon. He enjoyed his and Sun's chats as he listened to what crazy thing the kids had done that day- Skylar even stopped by towards the end of his shift just to fill the sunny attendant in on what had transpired that night himself. Then he would check in with Moon, make sure things were settled with their routes and they would go their own ways, only meeting each other for those bi-hourly meetings to report to each other. Skylar had the distinct impression that Moon was tolerating him, for the most part. He was also pretty sure that Moon believed him to be just a tad incompetent considering his fair share of accidents. Nothing serious, really, just the times that he could still get lost in the strangest places and almost fall over a railing. Though that only happened once if you didn't include his first night in Monty Golf, which Skylar very much didn't. He was pretty sure that if it was possible, he would have given Moon a heart attack by now. And he wasn't even through a full week shift yet. He supposed that was an accomplishment of some kind, though not one he was proud of.
Foxy was the next one that he interacted with the most throughout the night. That was probably because if he was bored- which was indeed possible- then he would accompany Skylar on part of his walk. They also talked while Skylar did his walk through of Kids Cove and the camera check in the security office. He had heard many stories about swashbuckling buccaneers, pirate raids, mutinies, and runs from the law that the children would weave during their day in the cove. It was rather exciting, and Foxy was such a good storyteller that once or twice Skylar got lost in the stories.
Skylar only really talked with the band when he was checking on them during his patrol through Rock Star Row. It wasn't that he didn't want to talk to them, mind you. But considering their place in the plex, they were crazy popular and were swarmed by children and their parents all day long. And Skylar highly doubted that they wanted another person to take up their rather short free time of six hours. Skylar probably wouldn't, anyways. And while he could, in fact, approach both Chica and Freddy relatively easily, if they weren't usually with Roxy and Monty respectively... It wasn't so easy for him to approach the other two. Roxy was usually in her green room or in the race way area when he wasn't there. And he was never sure how to approach her because for all that was said about her, she was a confrontational and competitive personality and Skylar just... wasn't. He knew people like her, and figured that if the atmosphere aided towards it, he might be able to find the courage to approach and start up a conversation so he could learn how to interact with her easier. As for Monty, it was really along the same lines as Roxy. He was loud, outgoing, and competitive. Skylar's opposite. But in addition to those traits, it seemed like Monty was trying to avoid the human himself. Foxy and Sun, who were usually more observant of their friends than they thought, insisted that it would pass once Skylar was able to get past his defenses and spend more time with him. But that didn't seem to be happening too soon, unfortunately.
Then there was Bonnie. If Skylar was being honest, their first meeting had the most words exchanged between them. It was actually the most interaction he had had with the bunny since his first night. Bonnie would be bowling once Skylar arrived and Skylar would watch him for a few minutes before doing his patrol and checking the cameras in the area once the bunny gave an annoyed huff at knowing he was there. By the time Skylar was done, either Bonnie was gone from the alley and Skylar only glimpsed him in passing once or twice more throughout the night, or he was with either Freddy or Foxy.
Moon, surprisingly, had been the one to answer Skylar's concerns. According to him, Bonnie most likely wouldn't be accepting him until he was certain that Skylar was a permanent fixture, much like how it was with Monty. But also in true Moon fashion, he told Skylar not to hold his breath because Bonnie didn't even like George, who had ended up working the graveyard shift for a total of three of the eight months since the plex had opened. So really, Bonnie probably just didn't like him, and he should give up. Skylar wasn't going to make friends with all of them. Which sucked! Even more so because that was a good possibility. Though, Skylar felt there was more to it than just his unsure permanence. It was around that third shift that Skylar wondered if Bonnie just didn't trust graveyard security for some reason. Considering the dubious reputation of Faz-Bear Entertainment in general, he wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

Skylar blamed George and Catherine. No, seriously. He did. It had been an hour before his fourth shift began when Catherine had asked him to come to her office. At first, Skylar had been worried he wasn't doing something right and was going to get in trouble, especially when he saw George was there. They assured him he wasn't in trouble and that he had been doing wonderfully, actually, for his first few nights. No, what they wanted to discuss was his being harassed by the three evening shift guards he worked with for two hours. He was going to deny it, since he really didn't want to cause them any trouble. But George and Catherine had both been firm on it.
George had overheard the two women and one man that normally did the 3:30pm to 11:30pm shift discussing Skylar to some of the day shift guards in an employee break room. They had admitted to the day shift guards about everything they had said to Skylar in attempts to freak him out. They also noted that Skylar never rose to their bait and how the man in particular found it especially annoying since Skylar had seemed like such an easy target. "Really it's fine. I'm sure it's just 'hazing the new guy' or something. Places do that, right?" Skylar had asked, really not wanting to cause any problems.
"Where have you worked before?" George asked. Then shook his head before Skylar could open his mouth to answer. "Never mind, I read the reports as head of security." he clapped the younger man on the shoulder. "Good on you, by the way, not being bought like the others." Skylar grinned at him before relaxing back into the discussion. "But no, what those three have been doing isn't hazing. It's harassment, fear mongering, and bullying. I'd almost call it emotional or mental abuse if it wasn't for the fact that you just couldn't give a damn about their attempts." George told him firmly.
"But things are still fresh, you need the workers, and it looks like I'm the only one they do it too, so it shouldn't be a prob-" he was interrupted by Catherine.
"It is a problem Mr. Sharpe." She told him sharply, tone revealing just how serious she was. "And quite frankly, you're a more valued worker thanks to not only your willingness to take such an unwanted position, but also because of your credentials. There's your respectful, well-behaved, and friendly nature. In addition, you do well with the animatronics which has always been a bigger issue for workers since they tend to be weary of them. Not you, you go headfirst in trying to befriend them." Skylar blushed and she smiled. "Sun sings your praises when I visit, and no one has actually had anything negative to say about you... except for your accident-prone nature and your ability to get lost in strange places." She added mirthfully, causing the young man to groan in embarrassment. George chuckled.
"Need to be a little more careful there, new kid." he laughed.
"But you are right, that we need the workers." Catherine turned sober again. The others followed suit. "They will need to be punished, so instead of being fired which will happen if they don't fix their behavior, needed workers be damned, they're going to work the midday shifts for the next two weeks in addition to some less than savory work with a temporary pay cut. We already have three guards from day shift who have agreed to switch shifts for a couple weeks." she informed him. And ultimately, Skylar had accepted their words.
Now, while this conversation had been extremely necessary, it wasn't the reason he blamed Catherine and George. No. No. The reason he blamed them was for what came next. After the more serious topic was finished, they went to discuss more about Skylar's week.
"I'll be honest, my first week so far has been pretty calm and I've been grateful for it." Skylar admitted.
"Indeed, though I must say, it's quite strange." George mused.
"I'm in agreement." Catherine nodded as the trio drank their coffee.
"What's strange?" Skylar asked curiously, head tilting to the side.
"It's just... it seems a bit too quiet is all." Catherine hedged. Skylar blink.
"How so?"
"As you know, we've been trying to fill the overnight shift for a while. We've never had anyone stay permanently. But we have had people take the shift for a few days to a week at a time, mandatory you see. But the reports were always the same. Something would happen within the first few days. Nothing ever too serious, mind you. A small accident with the security or janitorial bots ever now and then. Catherine here would receive an e-mail about a broken bot at least twice a week." George explained.
"Indeed. So it's been strange not having any of these messages from you despite you being here for three full nights so far." she chuckled. "But here I am, questioning the break. It's been nice, no need to jinx it."
"Not a jinx since Skylar here can just fix up any issues he has." George chuckled merrily.
"That is true!" Catherine said with a laugh. "Though if anything were to happen, I expect a report on it afterwards." she told him. Skylar just nodded with a laugh of his own before they said their goodbyes so Skylar could go finish getting ready for his shift. That fourth night had been nice. His new, temporary evening co-workers were much better than the previous three. They didn't speak much except to exchange their reports and to let everyone else know that their assigned areas were clear. Perfect for an introvert like himself. Then, once the Nighttime Protocol kicked in, he got the joy of being left without humans to wear on him, no matter how improved they were to previous ones. But it didn't mean he wasn't worried. After all, Catherine and George may have jinxed his calm nights by bringing up how unusually calm they were.

"You seem a little tense Star Light? How come?" Sun asked when Skylar had showed up for his fourth shift.
Skylar sighed. "It's nothing serious Sun, really. I was called into a meeting with Ms. Winters and George today before my shift."
"Oh no. Were you in trouble?" Sun asked fretfully.
"No. No, Sun. Not in trouble." He assured the other who let out a relieved sound.
"Good! But why were you called into a meeting?" Sun asked curiously. Skylar sighed heavily again.
"Apparently George found out about the previous evening guards harassing me." Skylar failed to notice the way Sun tensed up at the words. "Ever since they found out on my first shift that I was the overnight security guard, they've been trying to get me to freak out with all sorts of horror stories about night shift and you guys. Like I hadn't heard them before." Skylar rolled his eyes. "They were being ridiculous. Even if things had been like that before- which I know wasn't you guys, but something else entirely- you're certainly not like that now. And when those attempts didn't work, they kept implying my eminent death and called me a 'sacrificial meat suit'. They even began to leave the old articles in my locker, which I don't think George and Ms. Winters know about, now that I think about it. Either way, I tossed them out each time." Skylar scoffed.
"It was all so childish. And because I never rose to their bait, they were getting more and more persistent. Heck, they even put a fake death certificate in my locker last night with the cause of death 'Mauled by Animatronics'. Apparently, they were relaying some of what they'd been doing to the day shift guards and George heard and took it to Ms. Winters. She called me and told me in no uncertain terms that what they had been doing wasn't okay and I'm supposed to tell them if anything like it happens again. For now, those three were re-located to the mid-day shift, with some less than savory work and a temporary pay cut for the next two weeks. Which is why I was working with those three other guards this evening. Honestly, they were much better than the others. No mockery or attempted fear mongering. We just did our jobs and that was it. It was a relief considering what the last few nights were like before protocol would kick in." Skylar explained.
"I see... well, it's good that those mean bullies are being punished." Sun exclaimed with righteous fury. Skylar blinked before smiling.
"Sun it's fine. Really. Nothing they did ever really affected me except making me stressed from having to deal with them. And talking with you, Moon, and Foxy especially had been a big help in relieving that stress. I'll be fine." Skylar assured the daycare attendant.
Sun huffed before asking. "So, was that why you were anxious tonight?" Skylar blinked, having honestly forgotten their previous subject.
"Oh! No. George and Catherine had both commented on how my week so far has been unusually quiet and now I'm anxious that they've jinxed the quiet nights." He chuckled. "Or I was but honestly, talking with you, even if it wasn't about that has already calmed them. I'm good now. So thanks Sun. That was a big help." Sun seemed unsure, so he changed the subject. "So, how were things today? Did Molly cause any problems?" He asked, remembering that Molly Hayes was a rambunctious 5-year-old red head who seemed to cause anarchy among the children whenever she was in the daycare. Sun brightened up.
"No! In fact, she was unusually well behaved today!" Sun exclaimed before he went on about more of what had happened in the daycare that day. But deep in their shared mind, unknown to Skylar, both were thinking on what they had learned.
The rest of Skylar's fourth shift had passed by without any incidents. That also helped calm his nerves. And when his fifth shift came and went without any incidents other than Sun, Moon, and Foxy keeping a closer eye on him than normal, he was certain things would be fine. It was his sixth and final shift of the week before the plex was closed on Sundays, a new thing that Catherine had applied, that the thing he blamed George and Catherine for happened.
FNAF
Things had started out normally enough that he hadn't even thought about what Catherine and George had said about it being quiet. He had just entered Roxy's Raceway when he noticed the group of animatronics further in on a viewer's bridge. He blinked, noticing that Foxy, Chica, and Freddy were all three on the bridge. Curious, he made his way over to them. It was unusual that the three easiest to approach animatronics- other than Sun that is- were gathered together. He slipped up on Foxy's side as he asked. "So, what's happening?"
"Hey little chick!" Chica chirped happily.
"Hello Superstar." Freddy greeted.
"Hey there matey." Foxy greeted, keeping close to the small man.
"Roxy, Monty, and Bonnie are going to race to settle the score of who's best!" Chica exclaimed excitedly. Skylar perked at that.
"Cool! Can I join you in watching?" He asked.
"Aye, no need fer ye ter ask." Foxy assured the man before Freddy or Chica could confirm it. "Who do ye think will win the race? And why?" Foxy asked curiously.
"Hmm." Skylar thought for a moment. "Roxy is rather competitive. However, Monty and Bonnie are even more competitive than she is normally. However, she is confident, and it's also her race way. So she has the home advantage and the greater desire to prove herself... So I think Roxy'll win. Though I don't doubt that Bonnie and Monty both are going to give her a fierce run for that win." Skylar answered, watching the three in question getting their karts ready. The other three shared a look before Chica spoke up.
"Good assessment little chick! I think so too! These guys think Bonnie or Monty will win." She said, tone indicating that was a ridiculous notion. Skylar laughed at the offended looks the fox and bear gave her. They were prevented from answering by the referee bot rolling up to the podium and counting down as the three racers took their places. When the referee bot waved a checkered flag, the race way was filled with the sound of karts screeching as they raced away from the starting line and three karts sped off. Roxy's Raceway had three tracks. The short meant for the smaller children in the far middle, followed by a mid-ranged track on the other side. Then there was the longest one that encircled the entirety of the raceway, encircling the two smaller tracks but still being farther from the buildings along the edges. This was the one that the trio were racing on- obviously. Skylar could barely keep up with the race as anyone of the competitors would take the lead for a short while before one of the others took it up.
All three were in every position at some point in the race. Even from a distance their taunts to each other could be heard, causing Skylar to chuckle at them. It was the final leg of the race. And Roxy was in the lead, but Bonnie and Monty were both right behind her. Then they hit the final curve and disaster struck. They had all three been going too fast and hadn't been able to slow down on the curve and all three of them lost control of their karts.
The four watching winced at the sound of the crash, Skylar covering his ears at the screech of the metal. The four shared a look before racing off. The three animatronics a bit surprised by Skylar's ability to keep up with them, even running ahead of them when the crash sight came into view. The three karts had rolled away from their riders and said three riders were laid out apart from each other and their wrecks. Honestly, the karts weren't too badly damaged, Skylar noted when he ran through them to reach the racers. It gave him hope for the animatronics. He stopped once he reached them, all three sitting up, but not standing. "Are you guys okay?!" He asked quickly, catching his breath as he tried to assess what he could with sight alone.
"Yeah we're fine. And I totally won by the way!" Roxy crowed at the other two. Both grumbled.
"We crashed, it shouldn't count!" Bonnie cried in disagreement.
"But you admit that she won." Skylar pointed out as he stepped past the few strewn metal parts that had came from the karts. Bonnie and Monty both grumbled while the others chuckled."Let me see you guys." he said, already in professional mode. They let him. From what Skylar could see, Roxy and Bonnie mostly had cosmetic damage. Several areas were crushed and scuffed. Or in the case of Bonnie's left ear, straight up broken. Then there was Monty. Skylar winced at the mangled right leg. Apparently he had officially gotten the worse. He nodded and walked towards the gator. "I want you two to run an internal diagnostic to see if there was any internal damages." he told the other two. "While they do that, I'll do some emergency repairs on your leg, Monty, so you can at least walk to parts and service with Freddy as a support." Skylar left no room for argument as he knelt next to Monty's leg. "This might feel a little weird, but that's it." Skylar assured him. Monty was frozen and just nodded.
Skylar looked over the leg. The outer casing of the leg was badly damaged. But it was still stable. The bigger issue was the severed wires. He took out his portable mechanics kit and worked on removing a part of the casing that wasn't too badly damaged. After about ten minutes, he got the wires in Monty's leg 'hot wired' giving him temporary mobility so long as he didn't put too much weight on it. "There we go. Any internal damages other than this?" He asked the three at large. All three shook their heads making him nod. "Alright, let's get to Parts and Service then. There should be a maintenance hall way somewhere nearby." Skylar said. "Freddy, take Monty's right side. He can walk, but can't put too much weight on that leg for now. At parts and service, I'll need to take care of Monty first. The two of you can discuss who goes after him." Skylar told Bonnie and Roxy who both nodded. It took 15 minutes to reach parts and service, and it was around then that the lights went off. It was officially 3AM. Once Monty was in the protective cylinder, Skylar grabbed a few items from Monty's shelf that he would need and set to work. It took half an hour to disconnect the mangled leg and re-connect the new one and another 10 minutes for the cosmetic damage. He ran a final diagnostic before letting Monty go and getting Roxy in next. It took about 10 minutes to take care of her cosmetic damage and run the internal system check. It was just as Bonnie- very reluctantly sat in the chair that Moon appeared.
"And what happened here?" He asked curiously, eyeing the bunny in the cylinder with Skylar very carefully.
"Crash on the raceway." They all answered together. Up to this point, the past 50 minutes had been filled with light chatter as the man worked.
"Who won?"
"Roxy did!" "Roxy." "Me, obviously." "We crashed! It shouldn't count!" were all the replies mingled together.
"Roxy. Got it. I take it you weren't able to do much of a patrol?" Moon asked. Skylar glanced at him and shook his head apologetically before returning to the bunny's ears. They were requiring just a bit more finesse than he had been expecting. More finesse, yes. But less than what Skylar himself possessed.
"Sorry Moon. I promise I'll still finish up my patrols though. Don't worry. I won't leave you hanging. But um... as you can see. There was an incident on Roxy's Raceway. And the janitorial bots were taking care of the mess when we left so it should be clear now." Skylar reported. Moon sighed.
"Very well. Be sure to stop by and say hi to Sun. We realized there was a crash, but he was worried about you and the others. I'll just listen to the report with him then." With that, Moon disappeared causing the others to blink.
"Okay." Skylar made a final adjustment and ran a final diagnostic. "All done Bonnie. You are all fixed and ready to return to your activities. I just ask that you guys don't have anymore races tonight." He told the animatronics present who nodded in agreement. Skylar nodded and stretched, reveling in the popping of several vertebrae that had rather alarmed the six present animatronics. "Much better. Alright. If you guys need anything, I'll be finishing my patrol. Just call me if you need me, okay?" he got them to promise as he put away supplies.
"Sure thing." Chica chirped before dragging Roxy away and soon they all went their separate ways, though Monty, Bonnie, and Roxy were thinking about the little human they had either been avoiding or been rude to over the past week and rethinking some of their behavior. Skylar himself finished his patrol, making sure to stop by the daycare and filling Sun in on everything that had happened during his dinner break. He only just barely managed to finish his patrol and send in the report to Catherine with a tag letting her know that she and George had, in fact, jinxed his quiet nights. Both listened to the report in person in a private sitting room within the employee housing and apologized for it. Though they did commend him for doing so well. Skylar slept in on his day off and woke up ready for work once it was finally time to go back. Unknowing of the subtle changes that would happen when he did.
A/N: There is the third chapter a little bit shorter than the last one, I suppose. But we have had an incident! And the part about the harassment... well, Sun sure had a reaction to it, and he, Moon, and Foxy have been keeping a close eye on him. What could that mean? And what about the others? Perhaps we'll see more in the next chapter. Hope you enjoyed. Reviews are welcome but not required so no pressure! Thanks for reading!
