Chapter 2: News
Genevieve had been discharged from the hospital earlier in the morning, she had spent several days there as Dr. Kumar wanted to ensure she was strong enough to be on her own. Grace had informed her that they were trying to contact her husband, but it was proving difficult as he was currently on a top-secret mission. However, his commanding officer, Arthur had been informed of her whereabouts and was sending her brother, to stay with her until Guy could be reached. She had also been introduced to Master Sergeant De Luca who oversaw everything on this base, the woman had taken an interest in her case and was working closely with OSI to make sure Genevieve was not a threat to national security, and once that had been established, that she had housing and other basic needs met.
'How long will I have to wait until Arthur is able to get ahold of Guy? Once I can connect with him, how long will it be until I can see him, or hold him? I've missed him so much and just want to be by his side again. I love my brother dearly and am happy that he can come out, but it's just not the same.' Genevieve lamented to herself, closing her eyes as she leaned back on the bench outside the barracks soaking up the sun that she had been denied while being kept captive.
"Excuse me Mrs. Gisborne?" a man's voice asked from her side, interrupting her musings.
Genevieve jumped, her eyes flying open, and for half a second her mind flashed back to when she was a captive. After her heart stopped racing from the initial fear, she responded with more of a tremor in her voice than she would have liked, "Yes?"
"I am Corporal Adam, and I've been sent to retrieve you. Grace, from OSI, has news about your husband she said."
"Lead the way then, Corporal. Let's not waste time with pleasantries!" Genevieve stated, getting up from the bench she had been sitting on and motioning for him to lead the way. The Corporal either hadn't noticed the fear he had caused her or hadn't felt the need to acknowledge it, Genevieve hoped it was the latter.
Corporal Adam knocked on Grace's door, waiting for permission to enter before opening the door, and announcing he had Genevieve with him.
"Please send her in and then close the door on your way out Corporal," Grace stated.
Genevieve entered the small office and stood in front of the desk looking at Grace, and waited for the woman to share her news, she didn't have to wait long.
"Mrs. Gisborne, I wanted to let you know that Master Sergeant Castus was able to get a message to your husband that you are alive and currently at our base. Your husband cannot be pulled from his mission, but rest assured that when the time comes, he will be reunited with you. In the meantime, your brother is being flown over to finish helping you readjust to civilian life, he has been granted special leave for this. Master Sergeant Castus asked that you contact him should you have any further questions or concerns as he will be your point of contact when you leave our base. Here is his personal cell number and his business number." The woman finished, handing Genevieve a sticky note with the information.
"Thank you, Grace. Did Arthur say if my husband had any message for me?" Genevieve fished.
"No other information was relayed to me, I'm sorry. If you have any further questions about your husband, it would be best to reach out to Master Sergeant Castus as my part in your case is mainly done now; however, I will still be checking in on you from time to time. "
"No worries, I just thought I'd ask. I'll leave you to your work then. Thank you for your help in everything, I really appreciate it." Genevieve turned and left the office with the intent of calling Arthur and touching base with him before her brother arrived.
