Back at home, SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward and Mr Krabs were having dinner inside the living room while my family and I ate in the kitchen.
"Hmm, this Krabby Newburg is exquisite, Mr. Krabs. My personal compliments to the chef." SpongeBob said as he took a bite.
"Heh, well, I'll try just about anything to get even with Silver." said Mr. Krabs.
"Yeah, I like to see that happen." commented Squidward.
As he ate, Patrick noticed me walking out of the family room and up to the stairs.
"Hey, buddy. Funny stuff back there, funny stuff."
Thinking he was referring to what happened earlier at Bowditch, I ran up the stairs and closed my bedroom door shut.
"What did I say?" asked Patrick.
Before anyone could answer, there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it." said Mr. Krabs, who walked up to the door, opening it to see that it was...
"Captain! Mr. Arrow! Let me guess, this is one of those weekly hall monitor meetings of yours, huh?"
"Actually, Mr. Krabs...I came to see Nathan." explained Amelia.
"He's...up there." Mrs. Krabs said, pointing my window under the living room.
As Amelia and Mr. Arrow went inside my house, little did they realize the Eds were hiding a shrub by the front door, which closed, giving them the opportunity to climb up the roof to the window overlooking the living room.
"This is a bad idea, Eddy." said Double D. "What if they see what we're up to?"
"Ah, they won't even know we're here." replied Eddy. "Let's just get the scoop we needed."
Double D sighed reluctantly. "Don't say I didn't warn you, then."
He placed the bell of his latest invention, the StethoScoop, by the window, from which he was able to hear Amelia say to me in my room. "I understand you're having a hard time adjusting to life in middle school, but what I saw back there was not the way to resolve this."
"Hmm, no kidding." Double D said to himself.
"Didn't you do the same thing when you were my age?" I asked Amelia, who replied. "When I was your age during my first year at Bowditch, I had trouble fitting in too. But did I try to escape? No, I made the most of time focusing on my studies and…"
"I'LL TAKE ONE LARGE PEPPERONI!" a loud voice hollered outside the house, interrupting her. "NO MUSHROOM, DOUBLE PICKLES…"
It was Ed, who had taken Double D's StethoScoop, thinking he could use it for takeout.
"Ed, please!" Double D said, trying to retrieve his invention.
While trying to cover his ears, Eddy slipped off the roof, but managed to climb back up before he was spotted by the Imaginaries.
"Way to almost blow our cover, numbskull!" he said to Ed, slapping him in the back.
"Sorry, Eddy." apologized Ed.
"Honestly." Double D said as he took back the StethoScoop.
"As I was saying," Amelia began, but I cut her off, saying. "I get what you're saying, Captain, but I'm not you!"
"You're right." agreed Amelia. "But you have to make your own mark yourself."
As she started to leave, I asked. "What do you mean?"
Amelia slowly turned back to me, saying. "The truth is, Nathan, we Imaginaries can't be around forever to help you. Eventually, there'll come a time when you have to face those challenges on your own. And as you get older, things will only get harder and harder for you to handle."
Realizing that these were the same words said by Miss Presse, my former 4th Grade teacher, and Mr. Beckwith, I looked away from Amelia, who said. "Just...give it some thought. I'll check on you tomorrow at the same time."
As she and Mr. Arrow went back down the stairs, SpongeBob asked. "Uh, Captain, is there a slight chance I might go with you to Bowditch tomorrow?"
Amelia looked back at SpongeBob, then walked out the front door, which Mr. Arrow closed shut.
"I'm guessing that's a definitive uh-uh." said Squidward.
"You're wastin' your time, boy." Mr. Krabs said to SpongeBob, who asked. "With what?"
"You know what. With all this!"
"What's wrong with being hall monitor?" asked SpongeBob. "i think it's cool, especially the uniform."
"Ha!" exclaimed Mr. Krabs. "You wouldn't know cool if I locked you in the freezer! But seriously, SpongeBob, come back to the Krusty Krab so we can send Silver grilling out of the lodge."
He held out the Krusty Krab hat, which SpongeBob gently pushed back, saying. "I'm sorry, Mr. Krabs. I like to help if I could, but I made a commitment to the Captain. Besides, who better to bring justice to Foster City School than the HALL MONITOR!"
"And his trusty deputy, Patrick!" added Patrick, who started to swing an umbrella like it was a sword. "Hi-ya!"
"Patrick...whoa!" SpongeBob exclaimed as he, Squidward and Mr. Krabs dodged his swings while Patrick did his battle cries. "Take it easy, Patrick! You're gonna break something if you're not..."
SpongeBob spoke too soon, for while he was swinging his umbrella, Patrick hit the back legs of the desk chair that was by the downstairs computer.
"...careful." SpongeBob finished softly.
"Oops." Patrick said as he saw what he did. "Uh, anybody got some glue?"
Outside, the Eds stood on the roof like statues as they watched Amelia drive away from my house.
Finally, Eddy moved, saying. "Man, that guy is so dramatic!"
"Eddy, how can you say that?" Double D asked as he followed Eddy and Ed to the front tree, where Eddy replied. "Well, he is, Double D. You saw what a sulker he was back at Bayside."
"Oh, I remember fondly, all right." said Double D. "But perhaps if we show Nathan the bright side of Bowditch..."
"Hold that thought, Sockhead." interrupted Eddy. "If there's any helpin'-doin' around here, you do it for cash."
"Why?" asked Double D.
"Because that is how we work." Eddy replied, before he and Double D felt the branch shaking beneath their feet.
"Work that body, work that body, don't you go hurt nobody." Ed chanted while dancing on the branch they were standing on.
"NO, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!"
That was what Double D and Eddy said when the branch broke loose from the tree.
