The New York Crew Ch. 04

Within a deserted parking lot, a former kaiju was taking his driver's test from Slick inside a taxicab.

"Yee-haw!" Zilla lets out with a fake accent. "How'd I do, partner?"

"First of all. Don't ever do that again. No more cowboy movies for ya," Slick tells him. "You have a better chance fitting in by chewing a piece of gum," he pulls out a stick of gum and hands it over to the iguana. "Second, not bad you even aced the parallel parking."

"I'm guessing that's good," the Kaiju takes the gum and starts chewing.

"It's great!" Slick pats him on the back. "Now let's go in and check on the girls."

Zilla and Slick enter the newly set up apartment.

"Hey, Komi," Zilla says once he sees his mate sitting on the couch.

She replies with a "Hey," setting down a magazine she was reading and walks up to Zilla to give him a quick kiss. When the komodo pulled away, she noticed something in her mouth. She removes a chewed-up piece of gum, and her eyes narrow in confusion when she turns back to Zilla. Her partner just gives a slight chuckle as he takes the gum back.

Looking around, Slick noticed that someone was missing. "Where's Gizmo?"

"Working," she points to a corner where the tech girl sitting at a desk with several computer screens, furiously typing.

Then Gizmo shouts "I got it!"

"Got what?" Komi asks as she, Zilla, and Slick approaches her.

"The ownership of this building," she turns to face them. "Apparently, the current owner wasn't even aware that the deed was in his name."

"Wouldn't that be a problem?" Slick asks her.

"It would," Gizmo tells him as some papers start coming out of a fax machine. "However, I managed to find some incriminating evidence against this guy for tax fraud. He agreed to sign the place over to us, as long as I keep quiet," she grabs the papers. "We now own this building."

"Now that's settled," Slick walks up to Gizmo and puts his arm over her shoulders. "We just need ta create their new lives," and gestures to Zilla and Komi.

"Oh! Right," she turns back to her computers. "I set up your dates of birth and other basic information." she began typing. "All I need is a last name. Do you have any in mind?"

"That's an easy one," Zilla says "Tatopoulos."

"What?" Slick asks, Gizmo stops typing and turned her chair, and even Komi just stares at him.

"Tatopoulos." He repeats. "You know. T-A-T-O-P-O-U-L-O-S." he spells it out for them,

"Whatever you say, lizard dude," Gizmo turns back to her computers. "How about you, Komi."

"I don't know" Komi ponders the thought for a moment. "I guess I'll just take Topanapolus like Z."

"It's Tatopoulos," Zilla corrects.

"Sorry."

Gizmo then asks, "Do you want me to put you down as a married couple?"

"Married?" the two ask in unison.

"Well yeah," Slick tries to explain. "Like you too are together forever."

"I think I remember this whole marriage thing," Zilla tells them. "My dad used to talk about doing it with his mate."

Komi thinks for a moment. "Was she that human female with yellow hair?"

Slick and Gizmo look at each other with puzzled looks.

Seeing this, Komi informs them, "He was adopted by a human."

The two present humans went "Oooh!"

Zilla continues, "I also remember him saying that it's something the whole family should celebrate."

Gizmo types at her computer, "It might take time, but I can search for him. Any other family members you want me to find?"

Zilla grins, "I have a cousin."
