FIFTY TWO - SURPRISES

Thank you to Datia for the idea of Rose not forgiving Jack. I'm not sure there is anyway to add it to the story now as they've slept together again, but thank you so much, I'm so sorry :) x

A few months had passed and things were slowly but surely getting better between Jack and Rose. He had started referring to Rose as 'mum' to Teddy and Eliza again, and they were back to sharing a room. Teddy's nightmares continued for a while after Rose returned, but were under control rather quickly when he began to realise that Rose wouldn't leave again.

November 1921

Jack woke up to hear Rose being sick, again. He walked in to the bathroom to find her slumped over the toilet, he moved her hair and held it back from her face whilst also rubbing her back.

"Rose, this is the 4th day of this. You need to see a Doctor" he said concerned "I've probably just got a bug" she forced a reassuring smile "you don't know that" he sighed "what if it's serious, Rose? What if-" Jack said but Rose cut him off "don't say it, don't even think it. It's impossible Jack… there's no way I'm pregnant… the Doctor told me, remember?" "Doctors make mistakes Rose, maybe that Doctor did" she knew he was right, but she didn't want to get her hopes up.

She sighed "fine, I'll see the Doctor. But I don't want the kids here when I do, just in case there's something wrong" "OK" Jack nodded "I'll ask Maggie to watch them then go and fetch the Doctor" he said, Rose just nodded, groaning as she threw up again.

Jack returned with the Doctor after leaving the children with Maggie. Rose was asleep on the bed "Rose, darling?" He shook her gently and she opened her eyes slightly "the Doctor is here" he smiled slightly and helped her up. "Mr Dawson, if you wouldn't mind waiting outside whilst I examine Rose…" "No, I want to stay with her" the doctor went to object but Rose interrupted "it's fine, I'd like him to stay" "very well" the Doctor nodded.

"Well, congratulations Mrs Dawson" neither Jack or Rose wanted to go in to details of how the 2 of them weren't married, so let the doctor continue "you're with child" Jack sat there, a grin appearing on his face "I'm sorry?" Rose said in disbelief "you're pregnant" the Doctor confirmed "I… I was told I wouldn't be able to carry another child… I miscarried almost 2 years ago and was told- I can't be…" "oh, that must have been some kind of error, I assure you, you are definitely pregnant. Do you have any questions before I head off?" He asked "yes… am I at risk with this pregnancy? If I miscarried the last time, am I likely to miscarry again?" "There's nothing to suggest so. You're young and healthy and should have a healthy pregnancy followed by a healthy baby. I'm unsure what happened with your last pregnancy, but unfortunately things like that do happen" to which Rose nodded "thank you Doctor" "you're very welcome, please come and find me if you need anything else" "thank you" Jack smiled and showed him out before going back in to Rose.

"wow… that's a lot to take in…" Jack said "are you happy?" Rose asked "happy? I'm ecstatic Rose…" he grinned but it soon faded as he looked at Rose's face "you're not happy?" He said "no, no…" she sighed "I am happy. I'm just worried… terrified even.., what if something goes wrong? What if I loose this baby too?" She looked at him hopelessly "the Doctor just said there's nothing to indicate that will happen again" "yes, but as you said, Doctors make mistakes all the time" she raised an eyebrow "look Rose, if you did loose this baby, yes, it would be utterly heartbreaking, but we'd get through it. We get through everything… but I really think everything will be fine" he kissed her head, she just nodded in response.

The next chapter is the last of this story. I've already started my next story and written quite a lot of chapters for it, but just want to check before I continue that people will be interested and read it? It's about Jack and Rose taking in 3 evacuee children in WW1. Please let me know x
