Artemis was just about to return to her hunters from another useless mandatory meeting of the Olympians. It seemed to her that the others were inviting disaster. They had established the boy was more unstable than most with that fatal flaw of his. Admittedly his particular flaw was more heroic than most. That made him at least more tolerable than most boys. Both Zoe and Thalia seemed to like him at least.
Speaking of the infuriating loyal walking disaster, Hestia was walking up to her with the godling in tow. Her aunt called out to her just as she was getting ready to flash away. "Artimus, we would like your help. Percus must learn how to use his godly power without hurting himself or those around him. I figure the best way to do that is to have him travel with you and your group for a while?"
One good thing about maintaining her body at an early teen stage was no one out-sassed a teenager. "Why would I help him? Let alone let him near my hunters. He's a boy for one. Second, now that he's a god what's preventing him from acting like my brother or father around them. Third, I have an idea of the kind of power he had when he was a demigod. Now that power has multiplied and extended to new domains. He's going to get someone hurt. I don't want it to be me or my hunters."
Percy visibly flinched at every little remark knowing speaking out in his defense would only make the verbal lashing worse. Hestia, to her credit, simply waited out the chew down before simply stating. "He can't hurt you. Nor would he do anything to your hunters. He can't even if he wanted to. Our king had Hephaestus put some restrictions on him. You are a god of higher rank. He is bound to listen to you."
Artemis smirked at this. Addressing Percy for the first time. "Smack yourself," she commanded. Percy got that weird split-mind thing again as his body followed the order without question and backhanded himself across the face hard enough that he bit his cheek. Wiping the blood off his lips Percy was surprised to find glowing golden ichor. The wound quickly resealed itself.
"Fine, you can come with me. You are not to make my girls uncomfortable." Artemis gurglingly allowed. Then she looked at him confused for a moment. It was the same piercing look Hestia gave him when he first approached her. "You actually wouldn't have done anything anyway, would you? Your eyes didn't get the same flat look they did at my other command." Then she muttered to herself in ancient Greek too quick for Percy to fully pick up. Something about forged family? Nervously Percy spoke up. "Lady Artimus. I'd like to talk to Annabeth if that's alright with you. I," he paused not sure how much he wanted to tell the goddess infamous for being anti-love. "I made a mistake, maybe many, and need to apologize."
The goddess got a strange look. Not quite admiration and maybe a touch of fear. "She knows. I can't let you do that. Don't seek her out." Snapping back into soldier mode with a shake of her head. She added "Lesson one, godling, imagine yourself in the American southwest. I want you to know you are there and my hunters are camping about a mile south."
Percy concentrated hard for a solid minute doing his best to ignore the two flashes of light. His bonds helped him imagine the scene more vividly as he was following Artemis' orders. Eventually, his body was encased in light as he recognized the feeling of being teleported from the few times a god had flashed with him.
Back at their camp, Artimus was rounding up the girls in order to deliver the bad news when she noticed someone different by the fire. An older woman was ignored by the other girls. "Lady Hestia?" The older woman looked up and smiled. "Why follow me, M'lady?"
"I didn't," the old woman said with a small laugh behind her words. "Wherever there is a hearth, there too I will be. This is a week one, but you have been here long enough for this campfire to be home to some." Then the laugh fell out of her voice,
"I want you to kill him." Artimus was stunned and it must have shown on her face because the Olympian continued. "Your father didn't want anyone else to know of the curse put on the young god. I may not be a great strategist but why get help making a leash and then not tell the others about it. The answer I was able to come up with is that he's keeping Percy as a secret weapon of sorts. I don't want to see the boy used. If you can think of a better way to hide him than having him die and reform, I'd love to hear it."
Before Artimus could react, her hunters started gathering around her for dinner. She felt Percy appear five miles south of their current location. Not bad considering he would naturally be pulled toward the ocean. She was expecting him to be another ten to twenty miles off. All things considered; he should be here in a few minutes assuming he finds his new running speed.
"Sisters," Artemis called out before the girls could even dish up. "I bring news. It may seem bad at first to most of you. Believe me when I tell you was not happy with it when I first heard it. You all now fall under the domain of the newest deity. "Artemis waited for the gasps and wave of questions to pass. "They will answer all your questions when they get here. "As if on cue Percy came wandering into the clearing. Imminently twenty arrows were knocked, and bows drawn.
Writing Artimus was harder than I anticipated. I've said it before but seeing that people are actually reading and enjoying this gives a surprising amount of dopamine. Thank you all so much. I am new to writing and therefore am still learning. If you see anything that you think would make the story better let me know. I will do my best to incorporate your advice in future uploads.
