Never wanna be like them
Talkin' over coffee, but we're sayin nothin'
Both of us forgettin' how we once were friends in another life...

It's not exactly late when Beck hears someone knocking on the door to his RV, but it's past the point in the evening where he would be expecting unannounced company.

"Coming!" He yells out, pulling himself off of the couch and padding across the small space

He isn't surprised to see his girlfriend on the other side of the door; showing up whenever she pleases is sort of her thing, and he usually doesn't mind it. She doesn't normally look this distraught though, and the expression on her face worries him.

"Everything okay?" He asks her, concerned

"My dad is over at my mom's." She tells him "They're trying to figure out how much each of them are going to pay for college and how it will effect my dad's child support. They're yelling, it was getting ugly. I had to get out of there."

She doesn't ask to come in, she doesn't have to. She's welcome at the RV any time, and tonight is no exception. It goes without saying as Beck pushes the door open further, allowing her to enter, then wraps her up in a hug as soon as she's inside.

"I'm sorry." He tells her

"S'fine..." She sighs "I'm more than used to it by now..."

"That doesn't make it okay." He breaks their hug, but still holds her in his arms "They shouldn't put you through that."

"It's so hard to fathom them ever liking each other..." Jade admits, walking over towards his bed "...let alone loving each other. I can't believe they were ever a couple."

"Well..." Beck sits down beside her "I'm glad that they were. Because of that...I have you."

"You're a sap..." She manages to smile

"I'm you're sap." He reminds her as he leans in to kiss her "You know you love me."

"I do, yeah." She chuckles "I...I hope I never end up like them."

"You won't." Beck assures her, taking her hand in both of his "I promise you, Jade. Regardless of what the future holds, that will never be you."

I never wanna go to sleep feelin' like an ocean's in between our sheets
Staring at the ceiling with your back to me
Turnin' out the lights...

It's not an uncommon occurrence for Jade to spend the night at the RV, and when she does she usually tells her mom that she's spending the night at Tori's. If given the choice between staying with Tori or staying with Cat, Jade would much rather stay the night at Cat's...but her mother is friends with the Valentine's. It's likely she would text and check up on her. She barely knows the Vega's, so staying at Tori's is a much more reasonable lie when she wants to get away with staying with Beck.

"Soon it can be like this all the time, you know..." Beck says quietly as he runs his fingers through her hair gently

He had expected that she wouldn't want to return home that night after hearing her parents fighting, especially because it had been her they had been fighting about. He doesn't mind letting her stay, he actually loves it when she does. It would just be better if the circumstances were different.

"What do you mean?" She asks

Her head is resting comfortably against his chest as they lay in his bed, and she has one arm tucked against her chest while the other is wrapped around his body. Both of Beck's arms are wrapped around her, holding her closely. It's their favorite way to cuddle most of the time, and their favorite way to sleep as well. While some couples like their space at night, Beck and Jade like to be as close to each other as possible.

"I mean when we're in college and we live together." He tells her "We could go to bed together like this every night."

"I don't know what calendar you're looking at that tells you college is 'soon'..." Jade chuckles "But it's close to a year away still."

"But look at it in the grand scheme of things..." Beck points out "We've been together for close to three years. One more year is so soon compared to that."

"I guess so."

"Think about it..." He sighs, a smile forming on his lips "You and me in our own apartment, somewhere in New York City. It's Saturday morning and its cloudy, there's a soft rain falling...and we could just lay in bed like this all day."

"I like the sound of that." Jade admits "I wouldn't mind falling asleep like this every night either."

"Soon." Beck tells her, pressing a kiss to the top of her head "Soon."

I hope we still dance like we're fallin' in love
Hope we still drink like we're back in the pub
Hope we grow old, but we never grow up...

"Oh my god!" Jade shrieks as Beck spins her around in a circle "I swear if you make me spill my drink I'm going to-"

She doesn't have the chance to make her threat, because her boyfriend kisses her before she's able to get all of her words out.

"Alright fine." She smiles "You're forgiven."

They're 22, and at a small bar in Greenwich Village, not far from where they both attend college at NYU. The bar is one of their favorites, partially because it's smaller and usually not very crowded, even on the weekends, but also because there's usually a live cover band playing. Tonight is no exception, and a band on the small stage in the corner is playing "You Shook Me All Night Long" by ACDC as Beck spins Jade around the small dance floor. Most of the other bar-dwellers are bit older than them, but not by much. The young couple doesn't really seem to mind much, but then again...they're a bit too drunk to care.

"Wha' do you think?" Beck asks, taking Jade's empty beer bottle from her as the song ends "Wanna head home?"

They share an apartment together just a few blocks away, fulfilling their dream of going to bed together every night and waking up beside each other every day, just like they had talked about in high school.

"I dunno." Jade smiles, a bit out of breath from dancing as she places her hands on her hips "I think I have one more in me."

"One more drink or one more dance?"

"Both." She shrugs with a smirk "Whadda say?"

"I say 'two more beers coming right up'." Beck grins, leaning down to kiss her "I love you."

"I love you too." She tells him "Now hurry back, or we'll miss the next song!"

Hope we still fight over bands that we love
Hope we still cry 'cause we're laughin' too much
Hope we grow old, but we never grow up...

"Since when are you into country music?" Jade asks as she walks alongside Beck, the two of them hand-in-hand as they make their way towards Madison Square Garden

"I'm not into 'country music' as a whole, per say." Beck uses his freehand to make air quotes "But I like Zac Brown Band. My grandpa had their first CD in his truck when I was a teenager, he would play it when we were on our way to Squamish for fishing. Their music brings back memories and reminds me of him, it makes me feel good."

"So, why are you taking me to this concert instead of your grandpa?"

"Because it's something that I love that I want to share with you?" He laughs "Also we both know my grandpa is not cut out for New York."

"That's fair." Jade agrees "Just...don't expect me to enjoy myself. Country music gives me a rash."

"I'll buy you a drink-"

"Or five."

"Or five." He smirks "And if that doesn't work, we can always pick up some Benadryl cream for that rash on our way home."

"Fine."

They're 23 now, or at least Beck is. Jade hasn't had her birthday yet. Fresh out of college and looking for new opportunities in the entertainment industry, Jade wants to write and Beck wants to act, they had decided to stay in New York after graduating. The opportunities are there, it's just a matter of getting lucky at the right time. For now, they're both working retail jobs to be able to afford their lifestyle while they wait for their big breaks to come.

"I think we're a little underdressed." Jade admits as they get closer to the venue

"What do you mean?" Beck asks her

"I mean holy denim and cowboy boots." She tells him "Look around, it's like the high school CowPow threw up everywhere."

"We could always go home and change..."

"You're more than welcome to throw on a pair of cowboy boots and Daisy Dukes if you'd like, I won't complain." Jade laughs "I'm good in what I'm wearing though."

"Don't think I won't go track down a pair of Daisy Dukes for myself." Beck assures her "I mean...if that's what you're into."

"I'd pay to see it." She tells him "I'm serious. Let's go find-"

"I'm kidding."

"I know." She chuckles "Coward."

"Hey!"

"Love you."

"I love you too."

I think that we could be like that
Every single Sunday in our Sunday best...

"Have I told you how beautiful you look in that dress?" Beck smirks, swaying back and forth with his arms wrapped around Jade's waist

"At least six times since the first time you saw me in it." Jade smiles up at him, pressing a quick kiss to his lips "I don't mind hearing you say it."

"You look beautiful in that dress."

"Thank you. You look pretty handsome yourself."

It's the first time either of them have ever stood up on opposite sides of the same wedding party, but then again it's the first time both of them have been friends with both the bride and the groom. While it took Cat and Robbie a while to realize they had feelings for one another back in high school, it didn't take them very long into college to realize they wanted to marry each other. Their engagement had been long, wanting to wait until they were both done with school before worrying about the ceremony. Jade hadn't been surprised in the least when her childhood best friend had asked her to be her Maid of Honor, and while Beck hadn't been Robbie's Best Man...he had still asked him to be a groomsman.

So here they are, spinning each other around the dance floor in their respective wedding attire; Beck in his tux and Jade in her blush pink, much to her dismay, bridesmaid dress.

"It's kind of like a school dance for grownups, don't you think?" Beck laughs as he looks around the room "Getting ready and taking pictures is such a process, everybody dressed up in an outfit they're probably only going to wear once..."

"It's more fun than a school dance." Jade shrugs "It's someone's forever."

"S'true." Beck smiles "I can't wait until you're the one in white."

"Might come sooner if you actually ask me." Jade reminds him

She'd ever admit it to anyone, not even to her mom or to Cat, but Jade was shocked that Cat and Robbie had been the first of their high school friends to get engaged. She had always thought it would be her and Beck, and it's not that she has any problems with the way things are now...they recently moved back to LA because she just landed a job as a junior script writer for a network television show and he has a callback for a new movie on Thursday...and they're perfectly content living together...but she wouldn't mind if he asked her to marry him. They've been together forever, and it seems like the next logical step in their relationship.

"I will, when the time is right." He assures her

"Do you have a ring?"

He doesn't.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" He teases her

"I would." She laughs "S'kinda why I asked."

"When the time is right." He smirks, pressing a kiss to her forehead "I promise."

"Alright."

Laughin' over nothin' with a full wine glass
While I look in her eyes...

Beck watches Jade from the opposite end of the table.

She has her chin propped up on her fist as her elbow rests against the table, listening intently to the story that Tori is telling while she holds a wine glass in her other hand. Every so often she takes a sip from her glass, and almost chokes when Tori cracks a joke that makes both Jade and Cat laugh out loud.

The sight brings a smile to his face.

It's rare these days that their entire friend group gets the chance to be together. Both Tori and Andre are in Nashville working in the music industry, and Robbie is basically following Cat around the country as she promotes her first ever single. Beck and Jade are both in LA, working in their respective fields. Everyone's adult lives have taken them in different directions.

"Beck?" The sound of his girlfriend's voice snaps him back to reality

"Huh?" He says "What? Sorry."

"Why are you staring at me?" Jade asks him with a confused smile

"I jus' like lookin' at you." He tells her "Sorry."

"That's sweet." Andre remarks as Jade turns back to her conversation with Cat and Tori "All this time and she still catches you staring."

"Yeah, yeah." Beck rolls hie eyes as he reaches for his own wine glass

He hadn't been staring just because he likes to look at her, although that fact is true. He could look at her all day.

No, he had been staring because he's realized that after close to ten years together, her left hand, the one propped under her chin, well...it needs a ring.

Oh, when I'm with you, yeah, it all makes sense...

"I feel like this is illegal." Jade remarks as she follows behind Beck

"S'not illegal if the door is unlocked." Beck assures her as he takes her hand

"Yeah, but..." Jade looks around "It's nighttime, and there's literally no one here."

"Someone has to be here, otherwise the door wouldn't have been unlocked."

When Beck had said he had a surprise for her, Jade wasn't really sure what she was expecting...but she definitely hadn't expected him to take her to their old junior high school. They had only gone there together for one year, when Beck moved from Canada in the eighth grade. He seems excited to be back but Jade won't lie, she doesn't hold many attachments to the building.

"They've painted..." She remarks as they walk the hallways together

"Yeah, but it's been almost ten years so I don't blame 'em." Beck nods "Hey, let's go see if they replaced the tables in the cafeteria!"

"Beck..."

"What?

"...nothing."

She wants to tell him that she really doesn't care if they've replaced the tables in the cafeteria or not, but he seems so excited she doesn't have the heart to do it.

Beck pushes open the door to the cafeteria, pulling Jade in behind him. It still smells the same, despite the fresh coat of paint and the ten years that have passed since they were both students there.

"Fuck, they did replace them." Beck mumbles under his breath as he looks around the room

"And that upsets you?" Jade asks, a bit surprised

"A little bit, yeah..."

"Why?"

"Because it's throwing a wrench in my plan."

"Your plan?"

"Jade..." He sighs, standing in front of her and taking both of her hands in his "I wanted to bring you back here tonight, to the place that we first met. I came to lunch with Andre, because he was my only real friend at the time, and you were already sitting with Cat. He introduced us, and the rest is history."

They started dating roughly three weeks after that, and while they've had their rough patches...they've been together in some way or another ever since.

"I remmeber..." Jade nods, looking down at their hands, biting her lip before she looks back up at him "I think I know where this is going..."

"You do?"

"Yes, I'll marry you."

"Oh, come on!" Beck laughs "How'd you know?"

"Why else would you bring me back here on a random Wednesday night and tell me that?" Jade laughs as well "Is that what you're doing?"

"It's what I'm trying to do!" He tells her "Can I finish my thing?"

"Sure." She smirks "Finish your thing."

"Anyway, since that day we met...I haven't been able to stop thinking about you, Jade. And I don't want to." Beck continues "My life only makes sense because you're in it, and I never want to lose you. I want us to spend the rest of our lives making each other better, so...will you-"

"Yes."

"Can I finish the question?"

"Sure." She laughs "I'm sorry."

"Jade..." Beck lets go of her hands and reaches into his pocket as he drops to one knee "Will you marry me?"

"Of course I will." She grins "I thought you'd never ask."

"Sorry it took me so long..." He apologizes with a smile as he slides the ring on her finger, then stands up to kiss her "I love you so much."

"I love you too." She tells him, resting her forehead against his "I can't wait to spend forever with you."

Never givin' up on our innocence
Every single night's on fire when we're turnin' out the lights...

"How many zippers does this thing have?" Beck laughs as he fumbles with the zipper on the back of Jade's wedding dress

"Just the one." She assures him "But there's buttons that keep the train pinned up."

"This is a logistical nightmare." Beck can't help but shake his head "But you looked beautiful."

"Thank you." She smiles as he loosens the dress, allowing the fabric to fall to the ground around her "Now where were we?"

"I think it's your turn to undress me now." He reminds her

"Oh right." She smiles, immediately setting to work on undoing the buttons on his shirt

Before long both her dress and his tuxedo lay in crumpled piles on the floor, a true nightmare for whichever dry-cleaner that will be tasked with getting all of the wrinkles and folds out of the fabrics. Neither Beck nor Jade care that much about any of that right now, it's their wedding night after all.

"Mmmm..." Jade groans as Beck presses a trail of kisses from her collarbone down to her stomach "Keep going..."

"Whatever you say, Mrs. Oliver."

"Oh say that again..."

"Mrs. Oliver..."

"I like the sound of that..." She smiles, running her fingers through his hair as his kisses continue to move lower

"I love the sound of that..." He admits with a chuckle, moving his head back towards her's "We're married."

"Don't I know it." She tells him, pulling his face closer to her "C'mere."

Kissing each other feels different now that they're married, neither of them had expected it to, but it does. It's better somehow, even though the only real change in their relationship thus far has been a few legal documents and a huge party.

"I love you." Beck tells her between kisses

"I love you too..." She tells him

Right now, it doesn't feel like life could be any better than this.

I hope we still dance like we're fallin' in love...

"Whoa!" Jade giggles as Beck pulls her in close to him "Be careful!"

"Be careful with what?" He chuckles, wrapping his arms around her tightly as they stumble around the empty room "There's nothing in here!"

"Be careful with me!" She laughs "We have all of these stairs now, if you break my leg you're going to have to carry me up and down them every day until it heals!"

"I can think of worse things." He smiles, pressing a kiss to her cheek before spinning her outward again

It's their first night as homeowners, which feels even more grownup than being married somehow. Up until this point they had been renting an apartment together, and while it had been higher-end...it hadn't been their's. This house, which they're able to afford due to Jade being promoted to a senior writer and Beck's multiple movie roles, has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a pool with a guest house...and almost zero furniture.

They have a bed that they brought from their apartment that they can make due with until the new one is delivered, and a couch in the front room, a few lamps without tables to sit on plugged into outlets in different rooms to provide light...but not much else. Most of the furniture that they've ordered will be delivered in the next day or two...but the couple, now 27, seem to be making do just fine without it.

For now they're having fun laughing while they dance and spin around their empty living room as the sun sets, knowing soon they'll have to either find a different room to spend their time in or bring in a lamp to illuminate the space.

"It feels so big without anything in here." Jade admits as she wraps her arms around Beck's neck, allowing him to wrap his around her waist "Which, I know...we'll have furniture in a few days, and then it'll feel small."

"Maybe, maybe not." Beck shrugs "This house is pretty big, probably bigger than we need for just the two of us."

"Well now we can host your family when they come in from Canada..." Jade reminds him "And then we can grow into the rest."

Hope we still drink like we're back in the pub...

"I think this is my favorite room in the house..." Jade admits as she relaxes back into her lounge chair

"In the house?" Beck chuckles as he hands her a glass of wine "Feels pretty outside to me."

"You know what I mean." She rolls her eyes, taking a sip of her drink "My favorite part of the house, better?"

"Yes." Beck chuckles, sitting down on the lounge chair beside her "It's my favorite part too."

They're talking about their pool, they've put a lot of work into it since they moved in. A newly laid concrete, but made to look like tile brick, deck surrounds the pool and four lounge chairs with accompanying tables line one side of it. On the other, they've added a bar for when they entertain friends, or nights like tonight when they simply just feel like having a drink, and strung fairy lights around the exterior. New grass sod has been put down as well, making it into a bit of a backyard paradise.

Beck and Jade love to sit out by the pool together, especially at night when they can enjoy the lights, but their opportunities to do so have been fewer and farther between lately. Jade has just been appointed as head writer on a new television show for the network she works for, and Beck is filming in a new movie that is taking up a lot of his time...they're both busy, and their schedules haven't been lining up the best lately. Thankfully tonight, they're able to enjoy a bit of alone time together.

"I think I'm going to need like three or four more of these..." Jade remarks, looking at her now close-to-empty glass "Which I might regret tomorrow...but that's tomorrow's problem."

"Should I just go grab the bottle?" Beck smirks

"Probably." She nods "Maybe two if you're going to want some more."

"You're not going to share?"

"Not tonight, no." She grins "Sorry."

"S'alright." Beck laughs, standing up to press a kiss to her forehead before going back to the bar "Be right back."

Hope we grow old, but we never grow up...

"Beck?" Jade calls out into the house as she enters "Babe? I'm home!"

There's no response, which she finds odd. While their house is large, it's not impossible to hear someone yelling out. Her husband's car had been in the garage when she pulled in herself, so she knows he has to be around somewhere.

"Beck?" She calls again as she enters the kitchen

She sets her purse down on the counter, peering into the living room for any signs of Beck. When she finds none, she decides to try the backyard. The weather is decent enough that he could be out for a swim.

"Beck?" She calls out for a third time as she opens the sliding glass door and steps out onto the patio "Hey are you-"

She's met by a stream of cold water, hitting her in the face from somewhere off to her right. When the shock from the cold wears off, she turns to see Beck knelt on the ground beside her with a water gun in his hands, cackling into himself.

"What the hell?" She shrieks

"Gotcha!" He laughs, standing up and moving towards her "Hey, don't be too upset...I'm the one who's been kneeling there for half an hour or more."

"You're ridiculous." She laughs, wiping the water off of her face "And you've ruined my makeup."

"Would it make you feel any better if I said I had one for you...?" He smirks, revealing a second water gun from behind his back

"Most definitely." She nods, taking it from him as she kicks off her heels "I'll give you a ten second head start. "

"You're on!"

Hope we still fight over bands that we love
Hope we still cry 'cause we're laughin' too much...

"Get back here!" Beck grins, chasing his wife up the stairs "Rules are rules!"

"Not when I lose, they're not!" She calls over her shoulder, headed for their bedroom

They had been playing a hand of Uno, something neither of them knew was bound to end well, while they waited for the dinner they had ordered to be delivered. Loser had to be tickled, something they both claim to hate but secretly don't mind all that much...at least when the other is the one tickling them. Jade had lost, and now she's on the run.

"Nowhere for you to go in here!" Beck points out

He wraps his arms around her waist, pulling her onto the bed on top of him as he begins to tickle her sides.

She laughs, of course, and Beck loves the sight of her laughing.

"Stop it!" She insists "I've had enough!"

"Have you?"

"Yes!" She laughs, pushing his hands away "Beck, stop. I'm serious."

"Okay." Beck holds his hands up in surrender and allows her to leave his grip "Are you okay? Did I hurt you?"

"No, you didn't hurt me." She assures him as she rolls over to face him "I just...I need you to be careful with me, okay?"

"I'm always careful with you, aren't I?" He asks her "Unless you specifically tell me not to be, but in that case we have the safe word-"

"That's not what I mean." She laughs "I mean...I need you to be careful with me for the next...nine or so months."

"Are you pregnant?" He grins

"Yeah..." Jade smiles "I've been trying to figure out the perfect way to tell you."

"And you chose Uno-inflicted tickle-fight?"

"In my defense, I didn't expect to lose."

"Well, I think it's perfect anyway." He leans over to kiss her "Fuck, I love you."

"I love you too."

"I'm so happy, Jade."

"I know." She grins "I am too."

Hope we grow old, but we never grow up...

"Out like a light!" Beck says proudly as he enters the kitchen "Didn't even fight me."

"That's refreshing..." Jade chuckles, continuing to wash dishes as her husband comes up behind her "How many stories did you read?"

"Just the one." He assures her "I think she was tired, she had a long day."

"Her and me both..." Jade sighs

They had spent the day at the Los Angeles Zoo with their twenty month-old daughter, Ava. The energetic toddler has started to dislike her stroller, and insisted on walking everywhere that they went. However, being young and curious, she tended to stray from the path her parents were trying to keep her on, which led to quite a bit of chasing for Beck and Jade. Not to mention they've both become somewhat public figures in recent years, and trying to keep her away from paparazzi and eager fans also presented its own challenges.

"You okay?" Beck asks, wrapping his arms around Jade's waist "Want me to finish those?"

"No, I'm about done with them anyways." She tells him, pulling the stopper out of the sink and allowing the water to drain "My back is just killing me."

"Where are his feet?"

"Right here." Jade moves his hand to the lower left side of her abdomen "Give him a few seconds."

Sure enough, within a few seconds, Beck feels their son's feet brush up against his hand. There will be a two year age gap between him and Ava by the time he is born and while the idea of two under three is daunting to Beck and Jade both...they're excited about the idea of having two children so close in age. Beck doesn't have any siblings, and Jade's brother is eight years younger than she is. Ava and her brother will be so close, at least they will be eventually, something their parents are grateful for already.

"Give your mom a break, kid..." Beck kneels down to talk to the baby "She chased your sister all over the zoo today."

"He's mad because he couldn't see the animals..." Jade laughs, running a hand through Beck's hair

"He'll get his turn." Beck says, standing up to kiss Jade "Go sit down, I can dry and put away."

"Thank you." She sighs "Love you."

"Love you too."

Hope we still dance like we're fallin' in love...

"What are they doing?" Five year-old Jacob remarks as he watches his parents

He's crouched beside his older sister, Ava, now seven years old, in the hallway, watching their parents through a crack in the semi-closed door. Mom has her arms draped around Dad's neck, and Dad's arms are wrapped around Mom's waist, holding her close as they sway back and forth.

"What does it look like they're doing?" Ava scoffs "They're dancing."

"That's not dancing." Jacob insists "There's no music!"

"You don't need music to dance!" Ava insists

"You know we can hear you, right?" Jade calls out to her children

The door opens wider, startling both children and causing them to fall backwards onto their bottoms. Their father looms over them, a serious expression on his face that quickly turns into a smile at the sight of his children.

"Aren't you two supposed to be in bed?" He asks them

"Yes..." Both children answer timidly

"Jake woke me up!" Ava quickly adds "I was sleeping!"

"I couldn't sleep!" Jacob insists "I tried, but I couldn't!"

"Didn't try very hard, now did you?" Jade smirks, appearing beside her husband "We put you to bed less than an hour ago."

"I dunno..."

"C'mon, back to bed."

Beck scoops Jacob up in his arms, carrying him back towards his bedroom, while Jade waits for Ava to stand up. The seven year-old is becoming more independent, if that's even possible, and is no longer willing to be carried in most circumstances.

"Why were you and Daddy dancing?" Ava asks as Jade lifts up the covers on her bed for her to climb underneath

"Because sometimes it helps me relax after I've had a long day." Jade tells her "It makes me feel better."

"Today was hard?"

"Yes, but not because of you or Jake." Jade assures her "It's work stuff."

"Oh, okay."

"I love you, little bug." Jade leans down to kiss her daughter goodnight "Sleep tight, I'll see you in the morning."

"Love you, Mommy..."

She returns to her bedroom, and Beck arrives about ten minutes later. Jade can't help but smirk, knowing he probably read their son at least three bedtime stories to help him relax enough to fall asleep. Jacob is in his 'but I'm not tired yet' stage and she and Beck often have to tag-team putting him to bed if they're both home.

"Where were we?" He asks, opening his arms to her

"Right here." She smiles, leaning her head against his chest and letting him wrap his arms around her "Thank you."

"F'course."

Hope we still drink like we're back in the pub
Hope we grow old, but we never grow up...

Jade's head pounds as she opens her eyes to sunlight streaming through the window. She immediately closes them again, wincing as she rolls over to wake her husband.

"Wake up..." She groans "I'm awake, so you have to be awake too."

"Just ten more minutes..." Beck groans

"Beck."

"Alright, alright..." He rolls over to face her "I'm awake."

"I'm hungover." Jade mumbles into her pillow "Are you hungover?"

"Definitely hungover." Beck agrees

They had been out late the night before, at a movie premiere. Not Beck's this time, but Jade's. She had not only written her first feature film, but directed it as well. There had been a lot for them to celebrate, and they drank quite a bit. However, they're 36 now...and their limitations are different when it comes to alcohol.

"I don't think I can drink like I used to..." Jade sighs "I mean...I've never felt like this, not even in college when I was out of control and didn't give a shit."

"Yeah, I've heard your thirties will do that to ya..." Beck sighs as he rolls onto his back "I'm gonna get water, do you want water?"

"Yes, please." She tells him "And ibuprofen."

"Good call."

He throws his legs over the side of the bed and stands up, swaying a bit before steadying himself, then heads to the bathroom. He and Jade each keep a glass beside their respective sinks, and right now he figures they're both willing to deal with tap water for the sake of some kind of hydration. He fills them both up and returns to the bedroom, only to find both of his children jumping up and down on the bed beside his wife.

Jade looks like she could keel over and vomit at any minute, and is shooting Beck a look that screams 'help me, you idiot'.

"Whoa! You're not allowed to jump on your beds, Mom and Dad's is no different." Beck says sternly as he approaches "Sit."

"You're home!" Ava cheers "Grandma said you were going to bed out late."

"We were." Jade sighs, taking the water and pills from Beck "And since we didn't get enough sleep we don't feel well, so you two need to be on your very best behavior today."

Beck can't help but smirk, knowing that they'll only be able to get away with lying about their hangovers for so much longer. Jade catches his glance and returns the smirk as well, thinking the same.

"Hear that, Jake?" Ava turns to her brother "Best behavior."

"Yeah, yeah." Jacob shrugs

"I don't think either of us are up to cooking this morning..." Beck admits, looking back to his wife and then to their children "Do you guys want to order breakfast?"

"YEAH!" Both kids cheer in unison, causing their parents to wince at the loud noise

"Alright, alright...keep it down, please." Beck says "Go downstairs and start looking through the takeout binder, I'll be down in a minute."

"Okay!"

Ava and Jacob scamper out of the room, and Beck and Jade finally have a moment of peace. Already exhausted from the brief interaction with their children, Beck falls onto his back beside Jade and takes her hand in his.

"I can always ask my mom to come back..." Jade offers

"No, she was here with them all night last night..." Beck sighs, reaching for his phone "I'll call my mom."

"Definitely not as young as we used to be, huh?"

"Not at all." Beck agrees "But I wouldn't trade all of this for anything."

Hope we still fight over bands that we love
Hope we still cry 'cause we're laughin' too much...

"Oh these are so embarrassing." Ava, now twelve, groans as she flips through a series of images on her phone

"What's embarrassing?" Beck asks, passing through the kitchen

"These pictures of us at Aunt Cat's concert the other night..." Ava sighs "They're all over the internet."

"Really?" Beck reaches for his daughter's phone so he can look "Oh, I've seen these. I don't think they're embarrassing at all."

"Yeah, because you and Mom are the one's being embarrassing." Ava tells him

"You and your brother look like you're having a good time too." Beck points out

"Doing what?" Jade asks as she enters the room as well

"Apparently you and I were embarrassing Ava and Jake at the concert the other night." Beck says to his wife as she greets him with a kiss "At least according to Ava."

"Oh yeah?" Jade laughs "How so?"

"Look at these pictures!" Ava practically shoves her phone into her mother's hands

Cat, now a global super star with more pop hits than anyone else in the industry currently, always makes sure that her best friend and her family are front and center at any of her Los Angeles shows, or any show anywhere else that they're willing to travel for. On this particular night, both Beck and Jade as well as Ava and Jacob had been in the front row, and of course Cat's fans had gotten pictures and videos of all four of them. The images in particular are of Beck and Jade screaming with their arms thrown over their heads while Ava and Jacob grin and watch their favorite aunt with adoration.

"Doesn't look embarrassing, it looks like we're having fun." Jade shrugs, handing the phone back

"They're embarrassing." Ava insists

"But did you have fun?"

"Well...yeah..."

"Then who cares if they're embarrassing?" Jade laughs

"Exactly." Beck agrees, kissing the top of his wife's head "We had fun, that's all that matters...that's all you're going to remember soon anyway. Those pictures will go away."

"S'true." Jade agrees "Someone else will do something even more embarrassing in due time and people will get pictures of that."

"Yeah, and it'll probably be Uncle Robbie." Beck smirks

Hope we grow old, but we never grow up...

Beck and Jade's twentieth wedding anniversary arrives in the blink of an eye. They have a huge party at a hotel in downtown Los Angeles, inviting two hundred of their closest friends and family. It's a monumental event, but the end of the night they're thankful just to have alone time with each other.

Although they've been married for twenty years, they've actually been together for thirty-one at this point. They met when they were thirteen going on fourteen, and now at 44...thirty years has felt like a heartbeat to them. It just goes to show how quickly time flies when you're living your life with your soulmate at your side.

"Can you help me with this?" Jade asks as she tries to remove her necklace "I think it's caught in my hair."

"Yeah, hang on." Beck rushes to her aid and is able to quickly detangle the necklace and remove it "Here you go."

"Thank you." She turns her head to kiss him

"Of course." He smiles

"Oh..." Jade sighs, taking her husband's hand and leading him over to the massive window that takes up an entire wall of their hotel suite "I think I'm over the 'blowout party' stage of my life."

"Yeah..." Beck chuckles, wrapping his arm around her waist "Me too."

"Are we old?"

"Oh, baby..." He laughs "Not at all, we're just getting started."

Which is true, in the grand scheme of things...44 really isn't all that old. Within the next few years both of their teenage children will be out of the house and away at college. They still have entire careers ahead of them, things they want to do and accomplish, and they have nothing but time.

"You think?"

"I know..." He nods, leaning in to kiss her again "I love you, Jade. Happy anniversary."

"I love you too." She smiles "And I love doing life with you."

"Likewise." He chuckles "Thank you for letting me."

If you've made it this far, thank you for reading! I know this is a bit shorter than my pervious songfic, but I wanted to give y'all *something* as a 'thank you' for being so patient! Some of you have reached out and asked me if there are new stories coming and I assure you that there are, just not quite yet. I'm in my last semester of grad school and working very hard on my thesis while also working a full-time job, so I haven't had a ton of time to be writing in *this* respect. But I promise that I have ideas that I hope to get fully written out as soon as I have the time to do so! Again, thank you all for being so patient and I hope to get something new to you as soon as I can! In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed this songfic and it's enough to hold you over until I can get back to regualry writing again :)

Thank you!
