"Sister! NO!" The man shrieked as his older sister's teeth sank into the flesh of his thigh. He kicked frantically, his heel smashing right into her cheek. Her jaw unhinged, his thigh sliding out of her grasp. He threw his body away from her as far as he could, stumbling until he could steady himself on his feet. His thigh was burning, but he paid it no mind. He let his fear and adrenaline carry him. His feet slapped against the stones of their walkway as he sprinted out into the moonlight. "Damn it. Damn it Akari." He cursed his sister as he ran, not even bothering to call out for help. There wasn't anyone left in their village. She had devoured the village before finding him. His hands gripped his scythe, sliding it off of his hip. It was his only defense and his only hope. He grasped it tightly, running as fast as he could. He had just reached the center of the village, when pebbles were suddenly in his face, the breath knocked out of him as a force held him to the ground. He swung his arm up, slashing the blade into the side of his sister.
"We can be strong together! We can do this together, Akio! Let me do this!" She growled, her saliva splashing against the back of his head and neck. He yelled, his body rolling to fling his sister off of his back.
"Leave me alone or just kill me, Akari! I'm done with this." He huffed, pushing himself to his knees. His own blood pooled under him, his body screaming in pain. Just let him be with his parents and Ayaka in the afterlife. She devoured them. Why couldn't she finish him off too?
"I would never kill you, Akio." He narrowed his gaze at her as she knelt in front of him.
"Yet you killed our parents and our sister?" He growled, his knuckles white from clutching his scythe.
"I know you don't understand, but you will. They were too weak, but you aren't Akio. You're perfect. We can be the strongest duo for our master." Her eyes were wide, gaze hopeful as her lips curled up into a smile. Blood coated her jagged teeth and her face. Her clothes were tattered and stained red with the blood of their village and family.
"Kibutsuji can rot in hell for all I care. That monster did this! I will never serve him!" He spat, his stare wild. He lashed out, slashing his blade across the center of her chest. She didn't even flinch, her shoulders drooping.
"I'm sorry you feel that way, Akio. Unfortunately for you, you won't have a choice once I turn you." She dunked her hand into the vial hanging at the base of her throat, soaking her fingers in a thick, dark liquid. Her body launched forward before Akio could react. She dug her fingers into his thigh, shoving them as far as she could into his open wound. She spread the skin before dumping the entire vial into the wound. Akio screamed, the pain radiating up and down his leg. "You'll thank me for this." Akari whispered softly, running her fingers through his hair before digging into his skin with her fingernails. She freed another vial from around her neck and pulled the cap off with her teeth. Akio's vision faded to black as she dug, the pain overwhelming his senses until it all went away, his body giving in.
