CHAPTER 25
A carriage arrived carrying Lilian and a small, light-haired baby, just a small suitcase, as the orphans, those precious children at the orphanage, had very little, most of which were donations.
In the square were Lee, Rose, Abigail and Bill, and everyone saw Elizabeth running from school very happy, she was out of breath as she spoke:
- You didn't think I would miss my goddaughter's arrival, did you? And he was breathing with difficulty.
Lee cried as he hugged Elizabeth, the love between those two was visible to everyone, they seemed like blood brothers. Philip was leaning on the police station balcony just watching. Elizabeth was beautiful, her cheeks were red from her run from school to there, but she had a light that made him want to look more and more. Since that day in the infirmary, after her father's arrest, Philip had been running away from her, he couldn't understand her feelings, nor his emotions towards her and the baby. They hadn't spoken to each other for a week, even Bill had come to ask if something had happened between them, but I denied it, even though I saw Bill's look questioning me.
As for Elizabeth, at no point after that day did she come looking for me, whenever I saw her it was from a distance and she gave a half smile. It felt like she was telling me something, but every day I became more frustrated at not being with her or hearing her voice. This last seven nights, I had several nightmares, but to tell the truth they were like dreams, they all had Elizabeth and the baby in them, I wanted to hug that woman so much. At night I felt his warmth like the day we slept together in the infirmary.
"I wanted so much to caress your baby's belly, I miss my son... my son with Elizabeth..." And a smile formed beneath his thick beard.
That's when I noticed I was daydreaming here. What was I thinking, when I looked at her there in the square holding Lee's little girl.
"How can I think that, how can I say that... That child in her belly is the son of Jack Thorton, her and her late husband's baby", and closing my eyes, I went into the police station, where there was a lot of paperwork to fill out. , and occupy my thoughts, as well as having those two visitors, Charles and William Thatcher, the two black pests of society whom he hoped to dispatch soon. He knew that his cousin, Commander Hargraves, was preparing the arrest of these two men, he himself sent his cousin a telegram recounting the atrocities of those men with the widow of a mountie who had been killed in the line of duty. His cousin was a distant man, he met him when he woke up in the hospital after more than a month in a coma, if it weren't for Hargraves he would never have known about his family, his life story, it was his cousin who told him everything about his accident, where he was in the war in the Northern territories, and showed his entire record as a mountie, he didn't remember anything, besides his nightmares. It was funny that he never met this Jack Thorton, after all they said they were similar in some ways. At least they both had a taste for beautiful women. He had to be very frank with himself, the story was that he heard that Jack Thorton would never marry, because if the police wanted us to get married, they would give us a wife, as he always repeated the police motto, but Philip, now knew that Jack was caught in a death trap, and he laughed softly. There was no way a man could not fall in love with Elizabeth Thatcher, besides being beautiful, she was captivating and would make anyone fall to their knees with that look.
"INCLUDING ME" thought Philip...
Choking, he looked around. Thank goodness I didn't say anything out loud, Charles and Willian continued to sleep in their cell.
Philip was beginning to doubt his thoughts for Elizabeth. There was no way he was falling in love with her.
Bill had already noticed Philip's glances at Elizabeth. He knew that Philip had been struggling with himself since the day in the infirmary, that day when Bill saw them sleeping together. And Bill knew what that was, he himself has had his moments of inner struggle and it's the hardest thing to resolve. As for Elizabeth, Bill hadn't seen her so calm in a long time, there was a peace about her that didn't fit with this whole story. I wanted Wynn to arrive soon, he needed a lot of help there.
Ned appeared out of nowhere, running and agitated, his cheeks were completely red, he was no longer old enough for all this running, but Bill noticed that it was something urgent for him to be out there. He handed him a telegram and, excusing himself, went to his office to read it in privacy.
Meanwhile, everyone who was in the square waiting for Bella went to the cafe to celebrate the new baby. Everyone wanted to carry little Bella, but the green-eyed baby fell in love with Elizabeth as soon as she saw her, which she kept looking at even when she was on Rose's or other people's laps. Lee and Rose even whispered that they chose the best guardian and godmother for their little daughter, and that the girl approved and loved Elizabeth as soon as she met her, and for Lee it filled him with pride to know that Elizabeth was loved by everyone and now by his daughter, showed him that they got it right once again.
Bill saw the telegram was from Wynn and decided to respond quickly, when he opened it he was shocked;
URGENT - BILL
JACK THORTON DEAD? WHEN? AS? WYNN
Bill ran to the mercantile, and asked Ned as soon as possible to send a telegram to Wynn, he needed to know the reason for those questions.

Bill waited a while at the store, as he saw that something was strange. If Wynn was still at the posting station, he would respond immediately when he received this message. At that moment, Ned handed Bill a paper...

Bill waited a while, when nothing else came he decided to go to his office, he had to call Wynn. He walked away heading straight to his office, he had to find out what was going on...
At that moment the merchant's phone rang and Florence answered:
