Miguel and Stefano exchanged glances as they drove to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of San Padre. In the SUV following them was Louis, Romeo and another one of his security guys. When both vehicles stopped, Stefano opened Miguel's door and he got out. He walked toward the middle of the concrete parking lot and looked around. It was late and dark out, aside from the headlights of both cars. Romeo and Luis joined him.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" asked Romeo as he looked around.
"Yes," replied Miguel, "this is the address I gave the lab guy who I've asked to provide me with a new recipe for a fentanyl-based drug."
Luis and Romeo exchanged glances; this was more than what they needed to finally move ahead in their investigation on Galindo; tying him to the production of the drugs, which so far, they hadn't been able to do.
Miguel turned to look at them as Stefano and the other guy placed themselves behind Luis and Romeo, planting the nuzzle of their guns to the back of their heads. Romeo and Luis attempted to reach for their own guns, but before they could, the other guys, took them from the holsters and tossed them out of reach.
"What the hell is this?" asked Romeo as he stared down Miguel.
"You thought you could come into my life, in Caitlin's life and get away with it?" asked Miguel as he let out a sneer. "You gave Caitlin quite the long-winded speech about women having a lot of power and in doing that you thought you could use her to turn on me. The only thing you lacked in understanding or seeing is how true her love is for me and for our child. You gave her all the power in the world, Romero and now it's backfiring on you. That power she has and always had, that confidence that she nurtures is what drove her to tell me the truth."
He took a step toward them. "Now, maybe you imagined that I'd take my anger out on her and kill her for what she agreed to do in keeping your identity a secret or collecting intel on me. That would have been ideal for you, tying up loose ends in a way, but I was the one who put her in that situation, I was the one who handed her over to you on a silver platter and I would never hurt her even if I wasn't responsible."
"You can't kill us!" said Luis nervously even though he was trying to keep a strong face.
"Actually," said Miguel as he put on a globe and pulled out a gun, "I can. The CIA should know better than to infiltrate amateurs like you into a drug cartel, it's a dangerous business, there are a lot of rivals and treacherous people whom you could find yourself in contact with and unfortunately taken down in the crossfire. As far as I know, you never came back from a scouting mission I sent you on."
Stefano and the other guy pushed Luis and Romero, forcing them to kneel further in front of them, their guns still aimed at them.
"They will send more," said Romero, "and if you think that Caitlin and your child will remain safe, you are a fool."
Miguel laughed. "Trust me, when the CIA finds your bodies, they'll think twice about sending others. I doubt they want their operatives to drop like flies, it's bad publicity. As for Caitlin and her well-being, that is not any of your concern."
With that he pulled the trigger and lodged a bullet straight into Luis' head, first, before doing the same with Romero. He stood, gun in hand, and looked at their demise. He then walked past the dead bodies.
"Take care of it," he said to Stefano and his other goon. "Make sure they are buried not far from the Mexican border."
"Do we leave their phones with them?"
"Of course, I need to back up the fact that I was calling them repeatedly upon not returning from their mission."
He handed Stefano carefully the gun after wrapping it in a rag. If he had been smart enough, everything would play out according to plan. Earlier in the evening, Stefano had gone over to Jimenez' house, and stolen his service gun, now the crime weapon of the death of two CIA agents.
"Now," said Miguel, "make sure that Jimenez kills himself. If the CIA ever find Romeo and Luis, it'll look as if the DEA took down two of my men and upon realizing they were operatives, killed himself faced with guilt and fear of retaliation or going to jail."
"Yes, Mr. Galindo. Consider it done."
"Good," replied Miguel as he headed back to the car, got in and told the driver to head back to the Hacienda.
As they drove back to the Hacienda, he placed a call to Romeo and Luis' phones, leaving a message asking how things were going. He then hung up and called Caitlin, but she didn't pick up and considering how late it was, he didn't blame her.
"Hola mi amor, sólo quería avisarte que estaré allí en uno o dos días. Te amo y te llamaré mañana," he said as he left the message on her voicemail. He was impatient to join her as being away from her had been hard on him.
Upon pulling into the property, he saw multiple government cars parked, the place roaming with DEA, FBI, and others he couldn't make out. "What the hell?!"
When the car came to a stop, a tall, slim man opened Miguel's door and peeked his head inside.
"Mr. Galindo, we've been waiting for you."
