Hiiiii, here I bring another chapter, I'm happy because I've been updating every week thanks to your comments, kudos or followers, I hope you like this one a lot too.
"Welcome to the 61 hunger games and may luck be with you" Effie says goodbye to the stage where she has just chosen two new children, a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy, with the hope that by being older she could perhaps win this year.
Hearing the end of Effie's announcement, Haymitch just waits to get on the train to drink, even though the taxes are higher it doesn't mean what they are going to win, it's useless, District 12 never wins.
"No, come here" Effie stops him when he is about to take a drink.
"So early and so angry princess, you should take a drink" Haymitch murmurs ironically, he is tired of having to survive a year with his crazy escort again, he thought that last year he would get rid of her, but to everyone's surprise, Effie returned dressed as always as a Capitol clown with a blue wig ridiculous, but despite everything, it doesn't look so bad with her blue eyes.
"Look, there is a chance to win, they are bigger children this time, if you train them well they can win" Effie tells him in a soft tone of voice so that the children wouldn't hear.
Haymitch rolls his eyes." Honey, for the tenth time twelve never wins, they are not going to win it only leads to their death and the faster you understand it the better"
Effie gets upset "Enough, I'm tired of your incompetence as a mentor, you're just a drunk who doesn't care about anyone's life except your own"
"What do you know about the lives of others? You really care so much about the lives of others, if that were the case you wouldn't take children to their deaths." Haymitch yells at him, annoyed by Effie's accusation.
"I don't take children to their death, the games are an honor and every…" Effie tries to repeat the capitol speech
"Shut up, your voice makes me want to get sick, and every time I hear you say your stupid speech it makes me want to kill you, you make me sick, you are a horrible capitol" Haymitch hisses with all the freedom of being able to take it out on a capitol without fear of retaliation since the train is one of the few places that does not have hidden microphones.
"You are also a district to me" Effie says, making a disgusted face when she says it. "You were supposed to win the games, you should be a mentor, you should tell him how to win, be a mentor like those in district 1 and 2" referring to professionals.
Haymitch laughs darkly "I don't care what you think of my darling, if you haven't noticed, just leave me alone, so I don't have to kill you." repeats his threat
"Please, you can't do it, I'm capitol, you're below my level." Effie says annoyed in the same tone as Haymitch.
"You are an escort yes, but I am a winner of the games, nobody knows you, if it disappears you are just an escort, they will have another one the next day, you are nobody" Haymitch says hurting her.
Effie is surprised at these words, remembering the warnings Crane gave her, how easy it is to replace an escort and how you can't leave the games unless it's in a morgue bag, she shudders at the thought.
Haymitch watches as his escort went from impulsive fighting at his level to stopping and staying still, low point to divine Haymitch "Repeat it in your hollow little head, you wear so many wigs that your brain doesn't work, you're just a capitol doll, you're of no use to me or anyone else, so stop trying to tell me what to do. "He says this last thing as he leaves the room knowing that for now Effie won't tell him anything else.
Surprisingly, what Haymitch supposed happened, Effie did not look for him the rest of the trip, however, he noticed a change in her, that she stopped scolding the children every time they did not comply with manners, and she worried about trying to get them to eat everything she had. They had never eaten before, and to make them have a good trip.
Finally arriving at the Capitol at the training center, Haymitch goes in search of Chaff. "How's your escort? She come back again" Chaff mentions surprised
"I'm fed up, I'm tired today he insinuated that I didn't care about the children and that I let them die, puff" Haymitch snorts angrily as he sips his whiskey. "Who does she think she is? to come give a sermon on morality when she doesn't have" growls annoyed
Chaff becomes interested every time he sees Haymtich more obsessed with his new escort" You should fuck her, she's good" mentions it
Haymitch rolls his eyes. "It makes me sick; I would never stop saying stupid things" he tells him annoyed
Chaff just laughs "Well let me tell you she's coming again"
"What the hell again, right?" says Haymtich annoyed
"Haymitch I need you in the room for the interviews" Effie says quickly, ignoring Chaff.
"Hello love, long time no see" Chaff says, approaching and giving her a kiss on the cheek, to which Effie walks away.
"Please keep your space" Effie says, upset, to which Chaff gets angry. "Oh please, you're just a capitol escort, many of you like to be screwed by a winner, or is it because of my stump that you don't like me?" Chaff says angrily while pointing at his arm.
Effie just holds her breath to avoid creating a scene "I'm not like the other escorts, and I don't discriminate against you because of that, even if you had both hands I would never sleep with you" Effie responds, annoyed.
Chaff is amused and turns to see Haymtich "Has character is your type" he murmurs amused
Haymtich and Effie roll their eyes simultaneously "Never in life" they both murmur at the same time
They both stare, until Haymitch sighs. "Fine I'll go to the stupid interview, but go away"
Effie nods, happy to have won this time, keeping her word. Haymitch goes to the interview room where he sees Cesar again and gives his opinion on the games and that he hopes his tributes win at the end. Effie is waiting for him in the room.
"If you really thought that way we might have a chance." Effie murmurs.
Haymitch rolls his eyes. "It's not just up to me, princess" He says in a soft tone of voice and leaves knowing that he is about to start the games and watch his tributes die again.
The 61 games consisted of a mountainous forest with a lake that looks dark, surrounded by a fog in the background you could see the cornucopia, to the surprise of both, the children followed Haymitch's only advice and got away from the cornucopia surviving the bath of blood.
Effie had every hope that they could win, 3 days pass and her players were both still standing, Effie was hanging around and seeing how to get sponsors for the first time, Haymitch just as always kept his distance not wanting to create false hope.
Just that day he agreed with Haymitch, his tribute from district 12 was stabbed to death in the back by the player from district 7, however Effie was not around and he was unable to see her reaction.
Seeing the death of her tribute, Effie freezes, she can't help but want to cry and does everything she can to swallow her tears and continue talking to sponsors to get help. She needs supplies, mainly a blanket for the girl in her district who is dying of cold,
Haymitch finds out that Effie is about to get a sponsor for a blanket. "What are you doing?" he questions him
"The work that you should do, we are on the 5th day, our girl has lasted, she has a chance to win, but she is dying of cold because of the few clothes she has, if I manage to send her that thermal blanket Haymitch can win" says Effie all excited.
Haymitch grimaces, she knows what it means to get a sponsor, and even though her escort hates her, she would never wish that on anyone. "Look, you don't have a chance against that guy Clifford, he's a professional, even if our girl tried to reach the final he would kill her, it's not worth getting a sponsor" he murmurs quietly to Effie.
Effie is upset by Haymitch's words. "You don't know, you don't know anything except drinking, if you don't want to do your job that's fine, but let me do mine." He says as he walks away.
At the end of the day he managed to send the blanket to the girl, however just before the parachute fell, some bird mutations approached her and cornered them to kill her, both Effie and Haymitch were watching, only hearing the cannon giving the signal that Carry had died, and the parachute had just dropped.
"No, it can't be true" Effie mutters quickly.
Haymitch watches her and sees that she is about to lose control in the middle of the room where there are many microphones. "Come with me" He says, lifting her by the arm and taking her out to the terrace, the only place in the penthouse that did not have hidden microphones.
"Calm down, are you trying to get killed or what?" He tells him annoyed.
"We were so close, I had managed to get the sponsor, everything was done, I can't believe it, she's dead" Effie says without even listening to Haymitch.
Haymtich swallows the comment that he expected that this always happens in games "Did you seal the deal with the sponsor?" he question
"What? No, he didn't say that later he would do it" Effie says strangely.
"I warned you about that, I told you it wasn't worth it, it's worth it, District 12 never wins affection" Haymitch says quietly.
Effie only turns to look at the city to hide the fact that a tear fell "I have to see about the sponsorship" she says quickly leaving
Haymtich sighs knowing that there is nothing else to do in these games, he goes to a bar all night so he doesn't have to be in the penthouse watching the games.
Effie talks to Seneca about her sponsorship "Did Haymitch tell you to get it?" Seneca mutters angrily.
"No, he told me not to do it, why what's happening?" says Effie.
Crane grimaces. "Effie, no, sponsors almost always ask for sex in exchange for sending money to buy things" Seneca murmurs to him
Effie makes a surprised face" No, I didn't know this, wait, is this allowed?" she says scared
"Yes, Effie, Snow knows it and not only that, be careful not to make yourself so flashy, if you grow and become popular sponsors can buy you like the players." Crane tells him.
Effie turns pale, Seneca grimaces when she sees that Effie didn't know that was allowed either. "Wait for all the victors" he says quickly
"Yes, it can be anyone, but it depends on the popularity of said winner, more than anything it is always the ones who have just won." Seneca says in his ear.
"But they're just kids" Effie murmurs.
Crane makes a face and the signal to shut up is a lot of information and there are too many people nearby, Seneca hugs her before leaving. "I'm sorry, but I can't do anything to stop you from fulfilling the deal you made."
Effie nods, she's really not that scared about that, before the games she was a model and was on television, she knows how the world works in the Capitol, everything is based on money and sex, many times she had to sleep with people just to be able to stay in a job, the body is just a way to make people achieve what they want.
Effie returns to the penthouse without knowing what to do, each time she finds out how dirty The Hunger Games are, her dream that is destroyed, how it is possible that people are sold, winners are trafficked, she is left wondering if Haymitch That happens or happens to someone, when you arrive you don't see him like always, he's never in the penthouse...
The morning after the games and the rest of the days neither of them mentions the fact that Effie almost lost control on the terrace, and about the deal she had to fulfill with her sponsor, neither of them see each other for much of the rest. of the week, Haymitch spends every day drunk or parched, and Effie is too emotionally exhausted to fight so she lets him go without having to go to the interview, which she goes to alone, for the first time since she remembers watching the games. She is glad that they are over and not because there is a winner but because she should no longer be watching them or participating in them... She sighs while finishing her cigarette, she only smokes when she is stressed and these games were more than that
Author's note: And so it is, Effie definitely understood that her rosy world is not as rosy as she believed, and Haymitch began to empathize with her...
Thank you very much for reading this story, see you next week.
