Dash had waited in that hospital waiting room for four days. For days of waiting and hoping. Just for Danny to not even make it out.

He remembered that day when the doctor walked out to him. Dash could tell it wasn't going to be good news. When he heard it, he felt like the world broke from underneath him and that he was falling. It was like he was sinking and he didn't think he'd ever be able to come back up for air again.

Dash sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. The doctor rested a hand on his shoulder and asked if he'd like to go say his goodbyes with Mr. and Mrs. Fenton. Dash didn't feel like he deserved to, this was his fault after all. But he had to.

He followed the doctor through the hallways of the hospital to Danny's room. When the doctor opened the door, the sight of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton ripped another sob out of his throat. Maddie turned around and pulled Dash into her arms. He shook and she held him. All he could do was stare over her shoulder at Danny's body laying in the hospital bed.

Eventually Mr. and Mrs. Fenton had left to go do something. Dash wasn't sure what exactly. But at some point he realized he was alone.

He sat down on one of the chairs sitting off to the side in Danny's room. Reaching up, he grabbed Danny's hands, squeezing it in his own, and he rested his forehead on the hospital bed's mattress. He whispered apologies and regrets to Danny. Everything he wished he would've said. Before he could finish though, he was interrupted by the Fenton's walking back into the room behind him.

Maddie placed a hand on his shoulder, rubbing comforting circles into his back.

"It's time." She said.

The nurses walked into the room and began rolling the bed away. Dash stood next to Maddie and they watched as they carted Danny away.

A couple days later was the funeral. Many people came, wanting to pay their respects to Phantom.

Even though Danny didn't make it, Jazz, Sam, and her lawyers were still pushing for legislation to be passed and for the GIW to be abolished so something like this would never happen again. Because of this, word got out to the city that Danny was Phantom.

Dash watched the coffin lower into the grave and he felt his whole world go with it. Fittingly, it began to rain. The drops mixed into the tears on his face. Once the coffin settled, Dash knelt down and dropped a single flower into it.

Today, he was visiting Danny's grave. The snow was gently falling and Dash stood looking down at the headstone. He twisted the flower he had between his fingers and then held it up so he was looking at it.

"I'm so sorry, Danny." He whispered. "If it weren't for me, you might not even be here right now. If I had just said something sooner…" Dash choked up. He took a few deep breaths and cleared his throat before continuing.

"If there was anything I could do to change things…" Dash looked away from the flower and back at the ground. "But there's not. I just… I need to say this. I regret never telling you when I had the chance, because now you'll never hear it."

He knelt down and placed the flower next to the headstone. He placed his hands on the stone and traced his thumb over the letters.

"I love you."

Dash knelt there as the sun went down. When it was dark, he stood up and slowly made his way to the car.

Their love really was doomed from the start. They were destined to be star crossed lovers.

It really was a tragedy.
