On the world of Kyrria that is home to Humans, Gnomes, Fairies, and other magical creatures, a shy, young boy named James, who lived with his abusive uncle Robert, wanted to escape the farm house. As a fellow citizen of Cloister, James wanted to leave and become a different citizen, even living with someone who was quite gentle with him. Despite being seven years old, James enjoyed to wander the streets of Frell, the capital of Cloister. Frell was a beautiful city that attracted many tourists from around the world. His uncle never cared if his curious nephew would go to the city, but gave him a time limit that he should return before nightfall.
One time, he even allowed himself to sleep with Farmer Ben, who treated him very kindly other than his uncle. When a storm had just approached, James tried to make it back to his uncle's farm. Although, he was unaware that his uncle had been out at a tavern getting himself drunk with his so-called friends. Even the barmaid was disgusted with him and the owner of the tavern was threatening to kick him out or calling the Cloister Police Department. Eventually, James made it to Farmer Ben's house, in which his wife was able to get him inside immediately. Being given a warm meal, James made himself comfortable in his own guess room.
As the storm continued to move through the sky above the farm, James woke up from his slumber when the sound of thunder startled him.
"Fee-fi-fo-fum," James said, pretending to host a show for himself in the guest room while the storm continued to go on. "Ask not whence the thunder comes. Ask not where the herds have gone. Nor why the birds have ceased their song. When coming home, don't take too long. For monsters roam in Albion."
That was when the light of thunder happened once again, causing James to gasp until Farmer Ben came inside to check on him.
"Your still up?" Farmer Ben asked.
"Sorry sir, the giants woke me," James said.
"Its the sound of a thunderstorm," Farmer Ben chuckled.
"My uncle believes that giants make the thunder," James stated.
"Giants have not been seen for a few hundred years or less," Farmer Ben stated his own words as he sits himself down in front of the bed. "No one knows what happened, but according to legends that giants were said to have terrorized the world of Kyrria."
"Is it true?" James asked.
"That… is just a myth," Farmer Ben answered.
"But is it true that giants still exist?" James asked again.
"Long ago, the monks, who were part of a secret order, believed that giants hailed from the floating islands above the clouds," Farmer Ben explained. "They were trying to find out proof whether these giants continued to exist. And so, with the help of a wizard, they were in possession of magic seeds. With seeds they pulled from a magical pod, the monks grew a pathway to the sky and when they did…"
"They met a terrible fate?" James asked.
"That is… unknown," Farmer Ben answered.
James grew a bit worried now and asked, "What will happen when the giants come back?"
"They won't, James," Farmer Ben said. "No one has seen a giant for a long time. And we're lucky that none have come back to terrorize our world."
"But what if they do come back?" James asked.
"Well, I guess the king's Guardians will have to try to cut them down to size," Farmer Ben answered.
"I don't think I should be one," James said. "I don't know how big a giant is."
"Well, you just have to think yourself," Farmer Ben said. "Now get some rest. While you return back to your uncle, I have to be out on the field before first light."
"Farmer Ben, how do you know giants aren't real?" James asked.
"I never said anything about giants being real," Farmer Ben chuckled. "Good night, lad."
Ten days later, James was in the city where he was given an important instruction by his abusive uncle to sell his horse Theodore for 100 coppers. James hated this job, but had to go through with it since he didn't want to get a serious whipping from him. His uncle warned him not to get distracted while selling the horse. He had hoped to sell it to Farmer Ben, but the man had four horses of his own and he didn't think he would want to get a 5th one.
"Come one Theo," James continued gently pull the horse across one of city's most beautiful districts. As he looks around in joy and wonder, Theo gave him a response in his own horse language. The boy let out a scoff. "Don't look at me like that. I wouldn't sell you, but we haven't got much choice." He then does his part in shouting as loud as possible for any person who is interested in buying a horse. "Horse and cart for sale! Going for a price!"
While he had been trying his best to sell the horse, James walks over to a quiet alley and encounters someone that he met before. It was Brother Abel, a member of a secret society of monks.
"Hello James," Brother Abel greeted the young boy.
"Brother Abel, its nice to see you," James responded back in a plesant tone.
"Let me guess, selling a horse?" Brother Abel asked.
"Yes," James nodded his head.
"I'll give you 100 coppers," Brother Abel offered.
James was surprised that Brother Abel was willing to pay him the money for the horse to sell. "100? Really?"
"Listen, we don't have time, but I'm actually on an urgent mission," Brother Abel said quietly, looking around to see if he wasn't being followed.
"What kind of mission?" James asked.
"It involves with life and death," Brother Abel answered. "Listen, I don't have the money with me. But there's money at the abbey."
"I'm sure… you're an honest man, Brother Abel, but I'd much rather sell Andy to a man of the cloth than a butcher," James said, thinking he was trying to fool him. "But I can't afford to go home empty-handed. My uncle will kill me."
"I know," Brother Abel understood his thoughts as he reaches out from his Parker and give him a small bag. "Which is why I'm offering you collateral."
James looks at the bag and asks, "What's in here?"
"Beans," Brother Abel answered. "Well, not just beans. They are holy relics, from a very… special time long, long ago. They are priceless to the monks of Cloister Worth more than 100 coppers. Whatever happens, you must bring those beans back to the abbey. Take them to Prior Puffin and tell him that Brother Abel sent you. You'll get your money."
"Brother Abel, these are just beans," James said.
"Son, those beans have the power to change the world as we know it," Brother Abel said. "Try not to lose them. And whatever you do… don't get them wet."
After being given the seeds and warned not to get them wet, James had hoped that Brother Abel would be alright, for he was worried about him ever since he gave him the beans in exchange for the horse. He also hoped that Brother Abel was rtiHowever, Uncle Robert was very furious as to what had happened when his nephew returned him empty-handed.
"I don't ask for much in return for everything I have done for you, boy," Uncle Robert growled at him. "As a child, you go out to the city by yourself! Ever since Farmer Ben puts food in your belly, I have to come back here and give you a serious whipping! Do you have any idea what you just did today?!"
"I'm sorry uncle," James deeply apologized. "Brother Abel said that I could deliver these beans directly to the abbey. He said that they're worth more than a 100 coppers. I don't believe it, but if its possible, then maybe what he says is true."
Robert immediately slapped him in the face and responded very harshly to him as he lies on the floor. "You're just as foolish and blind like your father. Your father made terrible mistakes ever since his passing. Stand up!"
James immediately obeys his uncle's command as he quickly stands himself up and doesn't say a word in front of his uncle.
"Monks have no money!" Uncle Robert roared at him. "They're monks! Whatever this monk told you was nothing but a lie! He robbed you!"
As he yelled, Uncle Robert tossed the bag of beans into the fireplace. James was upset, for he couldn't believe what his uncle had done. He wished that he would've traveled to the abbey and would just get the payment immediately. Without him or James knowing, one of the seeds fell out of the bag and landed on the floor. Robert then walks out of the kitchen over to the living room and puts on his jacket.
"Thanks to you, I have to go and make a deal with the Butcher," Robert growled. "Settle a debt and hope that this could fix this damn house!" He turns to face his nephew, who continues to remain silent. "I want you out of this house, boy! You can stay with that farmer friend of yours. He may teach to be much smarter than I should've! Seems that I failed." He lets out a sigh and turns to open the front door to leave. "I'll be gone for a couple of days. If I don't see you gone when I return, I will give you a serious whipping! 100 slashes from my wee belt should be a fair payment for your mistake. I won't do it today, but I will if you are not gone from this house!" He then shuts the door very hard, enters his truck, and leaves.
Hours later until nightfall, James had just finished having his dinner and went on to do some packing in his room. While packing his things in utter disgust, James hated his uncle so much, for he carried a sense of understanding. The only thing he wished for is that he wanted to be with someone who was loving and caring. He believed that staying with Farmer Ben and his wife would be better for him. After he finished packing, James walked down the stairs and wandered through the living room. That was when he stopped and looks down at the floor. He realized that a bean was down on the floor. Realizing that his uncle didn't destroy all the beans, James believed that there might be a chance for him to get his payment. However, he realized it was only one, for he feared that the monks from the abbey may not pay him as much money for just one bean.
With all his stuff in his suitcase, James left the farm and began to travel directly to Farmer Ben's farm instead. However, he stopped short when he realized that a storm was approaching. Running towards the hills, James moved into a forest of trees and found a good spot for him token himself dry. Despite knowing the way, he still found it uncomfortable for him to just wait in a spot while a storm was passing. While keeping himself warm, James took out the seed he had kept in his pocket and looks at it in disgust. Thinking that Brother Abel fooled him, he threw the seed directly at a tree in anger and decided to rest up.
However, while James was relaxing and continued to keep himself warm, the seed that he threw to the wet muddy ground started to sprout immediately. When that happened, the boy gasped when he heard a weird sound like a large mass of soil was moving. Out of shock, he saw something emerging from the ground, something that was getting bigger and taller. James was shocked and he came to realize that Brother Abel wasn't making it up this whole time. He saw the green color and the leaves which was growing out that it was a beanstalk, a giant one that was stretching to the sky into one of the clouds around.
James couldn't believe it. A giant beanstalk! A beanstalk that reached all the way to the clouds. Thinking it was all a dream and that he was still asleep in his old room inside his uncle's house, he fainted and fell to the ground.
After the storm had passed and the morning had finally come, James woke up immediately and saw that everywhere around was foggy. Confused, he thought he was still dreaming, but it came to the point that it wasn't a dream at all. It was all real. As he stand himself up, he sighed in utter disgust due to being all muddy ever since he fainted and looks around. He turns around and gasps when he saw that the beanstalk was there.
Remembering the old tale that Farmer Ben had told him about, James came to the point that beanstalks and possibly giants still existed on this world. While he wanted to tell Farmer Ben and everyone in the city about this beanstalk, there was no guarantee on whether they will believe him. He still didn't want to go back to his abusive uncle, for he was afraid that if he ever came to the house, then he get a serious whipping from him as punishment for getting those magical beans from Brother Abel.
Letting out a deep sigh, James walked over to the beanstalk and stared at it for a moment. Seeing that the whole beanstalk had numerous vines that looked like a perfectly climbable net, the boy felt as if something or someone was urging him to climb the beanstalk. He finally came to the decision, in which he then begin to climb the beanstalk and see what was on the other side. The way up to the sky was a serious long way, but he sought to do it.
For the last few hours, James had been climbing without any stop as the stalk seemed endless. He never had a chance to have breakfast or lunch, and he was hungry. Poor boy was hungry, but he didn't stop at all and saw that he was almost to the top. However, he decided to take a long pause and look down at the bottom. James couldn't see anything, for the clouds for blocking the view. He couldn't tell on how far up he went and he was afraid of heights. To add to his fear, he immediately regretted it, for it was possible that the poor boy was so high in the sky. He strongly grasped the vine he was on before he continued to climb.
Once he reached the top of the beanstalk, a hole was spotted and the little boy could see that it would lead him outside of it. He cautiously approached the exit to see that it was leading to some land. His jaw dropped, for he couldn't believe his eyes. It was a highly massive land or nation that was floating around the clouds. There was also a grassy terrain that was pure green, filled with flowers, mountains, hills, and trees. For someone who had once been a farmer for his entire life, he never thought he would see it.
"Wow," James breathed in awe upon seeing it with his own eyes.
Pushed by his curiosity, James decided to explore this floating landmass, but he didn't forget about taking some marks to remember where the stalk was. He truly wanted to find out the truth on whether if giants were real or not. Although, he began to wonder in his mind if he ever saw a giant or if a giant spotted him, then he feared that he may become a victim.
While walking through the forest, he could tell that something was quite different. Everywhere around was colossal. The grass was reaching his shoulders and the trees were much taller than the buildings within the city of Frell. This incredible nature was really something. Everything was a wonder for him even if everything was like the normal plant around his previoushome, but just really big. James began to think if he was shrunk to the size of a tiny little bug or mouse.
After a few minutes of walking through this colossal forest, James faced a big wall of bushes, but the one thing is, the young child didn't have any difficulty to cross it, thanks to himself in being tiny compared to it. After crossing the wall, he discovered what was on the other side and stared in awe. He was in a garden, but a really big one along with a very luxurious house. James walked around the garden and found it surprisingly unkept, for there were a lot of beautiful and coloured flowers and ranks of bushes that grew wildly. Tired and hungry, He noticed a bush that had blueberries, but very big berries. James loved blueberries, but he decided to snatch only one and took this moment to take a big bite out of it.
James felt much better after eating the blueberry, but then he decided to focus in exploring the house, which was gigantic other than the houses down below. Seeing that the back door to the house didn't have any steps, the boy sighed in relief to find that there was enough space underneath to crawl through. As a tiny as he is, James was able to reach the wood floor waiting on the other side. Once he reached the other side, James couldn't believe what he was seeing. Everywhere around the house was gigantic to him.
"Am I shrunk?" James murmured to himself in awe.
James quietly walked around the house and entered the dining room, which was filled with a small round table and a couple of chairs. As he continued to look around, a massive shockwave was suddenly heard. It was the sound of booming. This caused James to gasp and freak out suddenly and bolted upwards off the wooden floor. Looking both ways, he tried to find a place to hide, but that was when he spotted a room that was known to be the pantry of the house. Deciding to hide in the pantry, James made a sudden stop and hid behind one of the legs of the round table. Retaining his breath, James stayed where he was when he noticed a colossal being entering the dining room. It was a giant. A giant woman. James takes a peak from the corner of the leg and couldn't believe how beautiful this giant woman was. The color of the woman's hair was all but dark brown and her eyes were chocolately brown. She was wearing a blue summer skirt and a white shirt. James couldn't tell how big she was, but for what he doesn't know is, the giant brown-haired woman was known to be over 86 feet tall. At first, James continued to think that he might've been shrunk and that giant was really human like him.
While the giant lady was busy pouring a bottle of wine into her glass wine cup that she took from the cabinet and took a sip in delight, James continued to remain where he was, for he was trembling in fear upon seeing a giant for the very first time in his life. Remembering what Farmer Ben use to say to him days ago, he came to believe that she and the rest of her kin were nothing but a race of dangerous individuals that cause harm to little people, like him, and probably eat them. and didn't wish to meet her acquaintances. He continued to watch as the giant lady finished her drink and turns around to walk towards the direction of the table. James turns back and stays very still while the giantess walks pass the table. Seeing her walk away from the direction of the table, this gave him a swift chance to leave his hiding spot and rush towards the pantry. He managed to reach the door and slid right under, sighing in relief. Looking around, he couldn't believe how big the pantry was. He knew he couldn't be here forever, so he sought to find a good spot to hide.
While he was preparing to think of a place to hide, James suddenly felt the sound booming approaching. Realizing that the giant lady was heading directly towards the pantry, the little boy began to panic just as the door opens. He stands completly frozen as the woman enters the small room and looks around. James didn't think about moving or breathing, so he did whatever he could to keep himself still while the giant lady was above him. Since she was wearing a skirt, James moves his eyes up a bit and keeps it together since he had been staring directly at her underwear which covered her butt. While the tiny human boy continued to remain under her, the young lady giant suddenly made a sudden stop. She began to sniff something through the air within the pantry. James continued to hold his breath, but had a feeling that the giant lady may have caught his scent and felt as if it was already the end for him.
"Human," The giantess murmured to herself, continuing to sniff through the air.
Knowing that a little human was in here, the giantess circles around the pantry, trying to sniff around and find out where the little human is. James remained as still as possible, but that was when he caught sight of a perfect hiding spot and immediately bolted away towards it.
"Here little human," The giantess whispered in a very seductive tone, sniffing and searching the pantry with her eyes locked. "Where are you hiding?"
James didn't move a muscle, but he kept himself hidden until he spotted a tiny hole. Realizing that this was the chance, he immediately jumped in the hole just before the giantess came directly towards his hiding spot. The giantess landed on her knees and sniffed at the very spot on where James had been hiding. She realized that the little human was here.
After jumping into the hole, James realized it was dark and didn't have anywhere to go while he had been crawling. He had hoped that the giantess gave up searching for him. He came to understand that this was a foolish mistake in entering a stranger's house. James was afraid of the dark and had no idea on where he was going. That was when he noticed some king of light in the distance of the underground floor. As he came closer and closer to where the light was, he was shocked to see that it was a shiny gem. He slowly picks up the gem and uses it as a way to find his way out of here.
Wherever he was going, James seemed to know where to go with the help of the shiny gem that he found. He looks around and began to realize that he was no longer under any underground floor, but behind a wall. Everything was narrow, but James wanted to find out if there was possible way to escape this house, climb down the beanstalk, and return back to Cloister. That was when he heard the sound of a feminine voice, for which it was the giantess that had been trying to search for him.
"Hello, this Megan McClain," The giantess said.
James saw a tiny little hole for him to see what was on the other side and couldn't believe how wonderful the living room was. However, he caught sight of the giantess, who was sitting down on a comfortable armchair and had been speaking with someone on the phone.
"Yes, I'm trying to get in touch with someone with the Gantua Police Department," Megan sighed, sounding very frustrated. "I don't care how long it'll take, but I want Greg to get this from me. Listen, when I just got back, I believe someone just broke into my house. It was a human. A tiny little human."
"Uh-oh," James quietly gasped.
"No, I didn't see it, but I could smell it," Megan continued to speak on the phone. "It was very fresh." She nodded her head a bit. "Alright, thank you so much. Be in touch." She then hangs up the phone and sighs as she then takes a moment to relax.
James realized that the giantess, Megan McClain, was talking about him and he decided that it was time to make his escape at once before the giant police would arrive at the house in any moment.
