PROMONOLOGUE
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
— Matthew 24:6 and 7

The story thus far…
The civil war is still ongoing. We've been on the hunt for so long now. The blasted Dark Lord tossed his damned soul jars through space and time. Three of them to be exact. The Diadem. The Ring. The Locket. We've already destroyed the Diary and the Cup. And I just got back from acquiring the Locket from the Erised realm. That only leaves the Ring, the Diadem, and the Snake. Alby was looking for the snake while we were gone. He told me that it's only been a month for him. For Gellert and I, it was almost seven years. We hadn't aged a bit though. Dimension hopping was weird like that. Personally, I didn't care. Because all I knew was that Gellert and I had only been back for a week and already we were setting off into the next universe: Sera.

I thought I knew war. I'd seen Snatchers take Muggle-borns, blood-traitors, and muggles from their homes. I'd seen them cruciate fathers and sons until they were brain dead, while the rest of the team raped the mothers and daughters dead. I'd seen werewolves and lycans descend upon entire villages, tearing families apart… limb from limb. I'd seen the little ones become newly transformed prisoners of the moon… condemned to a life of desolation, discrimination, and despair. I'd seen one of my greatest friends have their throats ripped out by vampires. I'd seen one of my most brilliant friends crushed in the hand of a giant. I'd seen my cousins, aunt, and uncle have their souls, their breath of life, ripped away from them by Dementors. I'd seen my classmates fight against wizards and witches of higher calibre than them, yet never wavering in the slightest. I'd seen parents crumble at my feet as I told them that their children would not be coming home… not for Christmas nor for Summer Break nor ever again. I'd seen the love of my life cut down before my eyes as she took a killing curse meant for me. I'd seen my own parents struck down from the eyes of my tormentor. I'd seen my father banished against a wall, the crack of his back as his life left his body forever embedded in the depths of my memories. I'd seen my mother on her knees pleading for my life, only to be struck down by the very same curse that took the love of my life in the blink of a moment's eye. I'd battled the Dark Lord all my life, and thought I'd seen it all. I thought I knew war.
I was wrong…
The land of Sera was unlike any world I had ever been to, any nation I had ever visited, any people I ever met. Any planet with a 26 hour day cycle you can expect to be strange. Sera is Ares spelled backwards. The god of war. Perhaps that sums up what Sera was.
Sera began just like Earth. They're people began primitively like our own did. In time they formed empires with strange names, foreign to my native British. Gorasnaya. Kashkur. Shaoshi. Pesang. Ostri. Ingarez. Vasgari. There is a great deal of history that you ought to know. However, I only have time for the basics.

Sera — A History
For most of Sera's history, even its primitive one, war ravaged the planet. Nations and empires battling over land, money, and people. That was until the Era of Silence. A period of time when Sera did the unthinkable. After an entire millennium, a thousand years, Sera abandoned warfare. Why? Sera had its very first golden age. Science flourished. Culture and art rose. The hearts of the masses thawed out and sought for love. The world demilitarised itself.
However, time was running out. Just because the wars were gone did not mean the problems were too. Sera was running out of petroleum and without it, they would be sent back to their primitive days. A new pressure began to press on Sera. The race to find new sources of energy had begun. The answer though came from a magnificent woman, a scientist by the name of Dr. Helen Cooper, uncovered that a fungus, if you can believe it, could be used for fuel. This fungus was called imulsion. It was parasitic in nature, yet powerful at its core. Dr. Cooper figured out that through a process, called the Lightmass Process, imulsion could be transformed into a pure energy source.
To many this had seemed like a light at the end of the tunnel. A new hope. However, as is Sera's nature, it quickly succumbed to war once more. The imulsion industry was fast to destabilise itself by the rabid demand, far higher than what the production was, for imulsion. The result was global economic collapse.
At this point, you need to be introduced to the COG and the UIR. The only way I could sum it up was if you took the Ministry of Magic and totally militarised it, then that about sums up both groups. An organised government of wankers. The COG stands for the Coalition of Ordered Governments and UIR stands for the Union of Independent Republics. You don't really have to remember much about the UIR, they kind of fade with time. However, the COG plays a very important role.
They have their own creeds, their own rules, their own military, and I really don't have time to explain all that mess now. You'll just have to experience it with me. Furthermore, from here on out, if I name any cities and you don't know their location, you'll just have to look up a map or something. I don't have the time to explain all that when I've got grubs bearing down on my arse. The main place that you need to know is Tyrus, the mainland of the COG. Several locations within Tyrus like Ephyra, Jacinto, and Landown will become greatly relevant later.
Now, the COG and the UIR were the primary competitors in this imulsion war, which came to be known as the Pendulum Wars. It began in 80 BE. (You'll know what BE stands for in a second.) For years it went on as new technology was made, and the ultimate weapons of military victory were developed. However, in the year 3 BE, the war would soon come to a close, almost 80 years after it began. COG intel found out about a weapon being developed at Aspho Point, a secret military base of the UIR. The weapon was codenamed HoD (Hammer of Dawn). Though it was not clear what the weapon would do, what was known was that it was an orbital beam cannon that could be launched from space to assist ground troops. Whatever that was, the intel was clear about one thing, it would mean the end of the Pendulum Wars.
Flashforward to 1 year and 11 months later, the Battle of Aspho Fields takes place. Also codenamed Operation: Leveller. Aspho Fields was pretty much a damned swamp. Gellert and I visited there once. It was horrible. Aspho Fields itself was a couple miles north of the actual secret base. They had to land in Port Farrail, a major coastal city of the UIR, and work their way down Aspho Fields to Aspho Point. Many notable Gears were in that battle. (Oh in case I didn't mention or you're just a duffer, Gear was what a soldier in the COG was called. Quite the name pun, eh? A Gear in the COG.) The Operation was led by the then Major Hoffman. A very important soldier in this war. After a gruesome battle, with the deaths of many vital Gears, the Hammer of Dawn data was secured. Several Gears were awarded the Embry Star, similar to Britain's Victoria Cross or the American's Medal of Honour. All in all, it was a good day for the COG.
With the data secure, the COG began researching and building this weapon. In the 5th month of year 0 BE, Professor Adam Fenix, father to one of the Gears who was awarded the Emby Star, completed his work on the Hammer of Dawn and the orbital cannon was launched into space.
Just one month later, the Hammer was dropped. Beams of light powered by imulsion dropped from the sky in Bombourg. Four days later, the COG declares victory. Bing… bang… boom… as simple as the flick of your wand. Most of the UIR recedes into the COG, except for a few stragglers, and thus ended the Pendulum Wars.
Then came E-Day. One year and a month after the end of the Pendulum Wars. All across Sera, holes began sinking into the ground and like scuttles of ant hills, the Locust emerged.
(~~~~~~~~~~)
For a time, the humans of Sera knew the illusion of peace until…Emergence Day.
In time, their valiant defence was crushed.
With billions dead, humans denied their enemy control by destroying their own civilization.
The long struggle against overwhelming odds approaches a final desperate stand.

E-DAY A History
You wanted know what BE meant? It meant Before Emergence. All of Sera's clock was based around this monumental day. Why wouldn't it be? Within the first 26 hours of E-Day, Sera lost a quarter of its population. It was awful. Bloody hell, in the 5th month, in the 1st year of the war, Chairman Prescott, leader of COG, announced that they were losing the war. Rapidly too. So on the 30th day, the Chairman made known that the COG would be unleashing the Hammer of Dawn upon its own cities in three days. All units and civilians were ordered to retreat to Jacinto. A bastion against the Horde.
You see, these terrible monsters that were the Locust came from underground. For so much of time, they lived under the surface of Sera. Yet for some reason, they chose to come up. However, Jacionto was the only place they couldn't come up from. It's ground was granite, impenetrable to the Locust's digging. That meant no surprise attacks. No ambushes. Simple straight on warfare.
Thus, having retreated the majority of their forces to Jacinto, come three days later, operation Scorched Earth begins. The whole point was to deny the Locust access to the military resources of the COG. 90% of Sera was destroyed, most of the environment was wrecked, millions of soldiers and civilians were dead. The COG sacrificed their own for the greater good.
'Oh how I know that so-called justification so well.
'At least some of the Locusts were killed.'
The next major event that would occur was the Fall of Ephyra. Just a couple miles southeast of Jacinto, Ephyra stood as the Capital of Tyrus and, for a long time, the COG too. The military made a desperate plan to keep Ephyra. It was home for many of them. It was the London of Britain. The Tokyo of Japan. The Washington of America. The COG planned to hold against an army of grubs—ten-thousand-foot soldiers and thousands of Reavers. Plus, whatever Brumaks, Seeders, or even Corpsers the Locust could throw at them.
At the same time, a Gear, an Embry Star one at that, received a distress call from his father, Professor Adam Fenix. Marcus Fenix abandoned his post at the last stand of Ephyra, took a King Raven helicopter to rescue his father. Along with it, he took the targeting system for the Hammer of Dawn, the COG's greatest weapon. Without the Hammer, Ephyra was basically lost. In a lot of ways, it was due to one soldier.
'Could I blame him?' No… I knew I would give anything to have a couple of parents. I don't know that I wouldn't have made the same decision. Still… it didn't mean it didn't hurt. The Fall of Ephyra was two years before I arrived here, but I had heard from so many the people they had lost. Thousands died. Some were Embry Star.
Worse yet… Adam Fenix perished along with it and his son was sentenced to 40 years in The Slab, the worst prison on Jacinto.

I don't have time to cover much more. Believe me when I say that what I have covered here is only the tip of the iceberg. However, that's Sera's in brevity. Not much else is dire to note after the Fall of Ephyra. The war continued like always.
The only other thing you need to know is that Gellert and I arrived here about 12 years after E-Day. For two years, we spent our time searching for that damned Horcrux. With so much of Sera under the control of the Locust and so much of it destroyed, we spent most of our time in Tyrus. We didn't get the chance to travel abroad. Over those two years though, we learned what it meant to be a Gear. Though we never officially joined the COG, we ran into our own fair share of Locust. Worse yet, what I hadn't mentioned was that Sera had practically no magic. It left Gellert and I feeling like Neville Longbottom with his broken wand. We could do some spells, but not many and most had predictive results. Long distance apparition was a no-go and we couldn't make portkeys. We couldn't even defend ourselves. Early on, our wands ended up breaking when a firefight broke out. So we were restricted to wandless magic. With how little magic was in the air and without a medium, it rendered us basically useless.
I never knew how reliant upon a wand I was until Sera.
Nevertheless, it was kill or be killed. We learned the tactics of the Gears. We used their weapons. We used their technology. In many ways, we became Gears. In those two years, we must have slaughtered so many Locusts. Yet we never gave up. For we had one hope: Find the Diadem of Ravenclaw and get back home.

I shall remain vigilant and unyielding in my pursuit of the enemies of the Coalition.
I will defend and maintain the order of life as it was proclaimed by the Allfathers of the Coalition in the Octus Canon.
I will forsake the life I had before so I may perform my duty as long as I am needed.
Steadfast, I shall hold my place in the machine and acknowledge my place in the Coalition.
I am a Gear.

A/N: In summation, the Dark Lord has banished three of his Horcrux across the multiverse. Having already found the previous Horcrux in the previous, Harry must now begin searching for the next in the next universe. A universe much darker, filled with much more war and much more death than our hero is used to. Welcome to Harry Peverell and the Wizards of War. Watch as our hero embarks himself into the universe of Gears of War alongside his best friend, Gellert Grindelwald II.
This is the third instalment in the W.O.W. Universe, though it may be the first to come out. (See my profile for more info and for context, regarding the changes made so far from traditional canon. This is a big project that is in its early stages.) I envision this fanfic being primarily in 1st POV, but with a limited amount of Omniscient. In other words, at times, though not often, other characters will be written about from Harry's 1st person perspective. Maybe sometimes we'll get to see other characters POV even like Baired, Cole, or even Gellert.
Also, this story will be written from the perspective of Harry in Gears of War, rather than Gears of War in Harry Potter, if you catch my drift. In other words, the audience is expected to know the basics of Harry Potter but not of Gears of War.
In this fic, I hope to cover the entire series of Gears of War 1, 2, and 3. Nothing from Judgement except the lore and nothing from 4 and 5. I will not be covering the comics nor the books. However, some lore will be taken from them.
The map that I used for this world, since it seems like Gears of War doesn't have an official map, is the World-of-Sera by thiberia found on DeviantArt.
