I shall post the next chapter when I hit 10 reviews! Please review!
Maka had to remain in the hospital for a week much to her dismay. The doctor's had to do many tests to determine the damage to her body due to the birth. To everyone's relief there was no permanent damage. Tsubaki was worried she might have hurt her chances of ever getting pregnant again, but the doctor's seemed certain all will heal and they constantly complimented Tsubaki's work. Maka was so proud. All the doctors were so impressed. Maka thinks she might even get a job at the hospital based on her quick thinking and skills as a midwife. Soul and Amara were ecstatic, constantly fussing over herself and Masen.
Masen.
She couldn't believe she had a son. Maka Albarn had a daughter and a son. She couldn't stop staring at him. The first night in the hospital she nearly lay awake all night, just watching her baby. Masen was beautiful, every bit as beautiful as Soul and Mara. Good genes, it seems. His hair already seemed darker than the original blonde she thought it was. His face was so like Soul's, she predicted that even with the difference in hair colour, they would look just alike. Soul told her he looked more like Wes.
Even now, at only a week old, he had such a personality. He was alert, shockingly so. His eyes were narrow - like Soul's, though again, he said they were more like Wes's - but when he wasn't crying, feeding, or sleeping he was looking around, taking in his surroundings. Maka knew when he was going to cry. He'd frown and scrunch his nose up before letting out a piercing shrill.
Maka didn't care how much Masen cried as long as he kept doing it. He was barely breathing when they had arrived at the hospital apparently. Before she had woken up, the doctors told Soul that he may not make it. But Mason was strong. He shocked the Doctors with his sudden burst of energy. He went from barely breathing or moving to never sitting still.
Soul didn't share Maka's fear. He knew their son was strong. Maka was scared, thinking every time the doctors took him away, they'd be coming back with bad news. When the doctor's said that Masen would live, he hugged his son and told him: "I never doubted you for a second." Soul said he'd grow up stronger than any of them, and Amara thought the same.
Maka and Soul had come to find that Amara had a very strange way of just knowing things. She knew Mason would be a boy. Kid had told them that she knew Maka was in labour before they even got into the hotel. The moment the phone cut out she had suddenly sat up from the bed and started crying, saying she needs to make sure Mama's okay. When the doctors were worried about Masen, she just rolled her eyes. Amara told them all not to worry, he'd be just fine – And she was right. Soul teased her saying she was freaking him out, but she just gave him a cheeky grin and tapped her nose.
"Okay Maks," Maka looked up from dressing Masen as Soul entered her hospital room, rubbing his hands. "Car seats installed. Ready when you two are." Then he smiled and made his way over to coo at his son. Maka smiled, throwing her bag over her shoulder as she watched the two.
"How's my little man, eh?" He asked as he picked him up from his hospital crib. Masen gave him a little gurgle before falling back to sleep.
"He's okay," Maka answered for him as she made her way over. She wrapped her arms around Soul's waist and stared in awe at her son. "The doctors said he's stronger than any baby they've ever seen – and the most well behaved."
"Mara was right," Soul commented. Maka nodded.
"She's right about everything."
Soul barked a laugh.
"Yeah, I wonder who she gets that from,"
"Hah-hah," she adjusted her bag and shook her head. "Ready?"
"Yah, you're all checked out – Now we just go home."
"Home." Maka sighed and grinned. She'd waited so long for this. Well. A week.
Soul tucked Masen into his baby carrier and picked it up with ease. Maka couldn't help the wave of unease that flooded over her as they exited her room, coats on and Masen all wrapped up. What if he should stay longer? What if it was wrong to take him from the safety of the hospital, were nurses and doctors were only moments away?
"Maka," Soul's voice cut her from her fears. "He's fine. You heard the Doctor's – He's amazed them all. He's strong."
Maka held his gaze, his crimson orbs burning into hers, and nodded. She grasped Soul's other hand and strode from the hospital.
"What time is Mara coming back?" Maka yelled from Soul and her room.
"Tsu said around five. She's picking her up from school at three, then making her dinner." Soul shouted back from another room.
"'Kay."
Maka stood up from laying Masen down in his crib for his nap and exited her bedroom. She found Soul assembling the highchair she struggled and gave up with in the living room with ease. Maka slumped down onto the couch with a huff to watch him work.
"What time's dad coming over?"
"You can't remember any of the times people are coming over?"
"I just had a baby, leave me alone."
Soul chuckled and glanced at his watch.
"He should be here any minute if he's on time." He informed her.
Maka couldn't help but grin. "He's going to adore Masen."
Soul laughed gruffly as he finished. He stood to admire his work. "I think you're right about that – What's not to love?"
Maka smiled. Soul was just as in awe of their son as she was.
Their son. Maka had a son with Soul. Their own little baby that they made themselves.
"I can't believe we have a son." Soul voiced her thoughts.
"Pretty surreal, huh?"
"Pretty amazing." He corrected as he cast her a cheeky smile, identical to Amara's. She would have responded but there was a knock on the door.
"That'll be Dad," Maka said as she stood and made her way to the door to swing it open.
Spirit looked like he'd ran a marathon. He's been on a mission in another state when she'd had the baby. He'd only got back to the day before, but Maka insisted he visited her at the house instead of the hospital so they could be more comfortable.
"Maka, hunnie," He was so breathless she barely heard him. His arms were around her in an instant. "I was so worried! About you and the baby."
Maka couldn't help but smile. A few years ago, she'd never imagine she'd be sharing a moment like this with her dad. He'd be shouting, crying and she'd be yelling at him to quiet down. But now he was just a concerned and worried father. He was her dad.
"I'm fine, Papa," She reminded him as she pulled away. "I've just got to take it easy for a few weeks and no missions for two months. All good."
Spirit nodded, but his face was still creased with worry.
"And the baby?" He asked. Spirit knew that it wasn't an easy birth, and that Masen wasn't doing well at first. Maka was already nodding.
"The baby's fine. Stronger than all of us put together and sure showed those doctors."
Spirit finally relaxed. He smiled fully and hugged her again.
"Thank Death," he muttered before he pulled away to look her in the eyes, his were suddenly alight with humour. "So, tell me – Do I have another granddaughter?"
Maka grinned and led him into the house. The living room was empty. Spirit tugged Maka's arm.
"Maka? Where's the – "
He completely cut off the moment his eye's landed on the baby in Soul's arms as he entered the room. Maka could swear she heard him clear his throat to hide a sob.
"Spirit," Soul started as he made his way over to his girlfriend's dad, a rare smile gracing his face. "Wanna meet your grandson?"
Spirit really did cry then. "I have a grandson..."
Maka wiped her eyes. She was smiling so wide her face hurt. "You have a grandson."
Spirit's breath caught as Soul placed the baby into Spirit's waiting arms. Then he said the words that they never expected another person to utter. They were Soul's words.
"I never doubted you for a second," Spirit said gruffly to their son, his voice rough with emotion. "Not for one second."
Soul's wide eyes found Maka's, and she really cried then. Soul's arms wrapped around her and he pressed a kiss to her hair as they watched Masen's Grandpa fawn over him.
Maka had never felt so happy.
