Honesty and Truthfulness: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues to speak the truth until he is recorded with Allah as truthful. Falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire." (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

Luffy grew up surrounded by adoring residents in Fusha village, a place where he was cherished by the community. He was known for his unwavering honesty and truthfulness, to the point of being overly forthright. These virtues were instilled in him by his grandfather, Garp, who used his fist of tough love approach to impart these values.

Garp would often take his young grandson to the mosque for prayer. Although Luffy was too young to officially perform the prayers, Garp's heart swelled with pride as he watched his playful grandson mimic the worshippers. Luffy would even babble words in an attempt to emulate those reading the Quran, endearing himself to everyone in the mosque.

However, fate took an unexpected turn when Garp, called to duty as vice-admiral, had to entrust the care of his beloved grandson to the local bar owner. As a devout Muslim, Garp struggled with his occasional lapses into alcohol consumption, and he felt that he had no one else he could trust to care for young Luffy. Thus, he made the decision to leave Luffy in Makino's care.

During Garp's absence, the infamous Red-Haired Shanks and his pirate crew arrived in the village, having stolen the legendary Devil Fruit from Cipher Pol. Luffy became enamored with the crew of pirates, and, in an attempt to prove his maturity, he made a courageous yet foolish decision. He pledged to become a pirate and displayed his newfound resolve by cutting his cheek, believing it would make him appear more manly.

This sudden transformation worried everyone, and Shanks attempted to defuse the situation with humor, praising Luffy for his "manly" choice of drinking fruit juice. The crew joined in the laughter, which only fueled Luffy's frustration. In his anger, he reached for a mysterious fruit nearby, unaware that it was a Devil Fruit. Taking a bite, Luffy's body underwent a bizarre transformation, stretching and distorting in shape. Shanks, realizing the gravity of the situation, attempted to help Luffy, leading to comical attempts to make him cough up the fruit.
