Chapter One: hey

It was a cold winter night. In her cozy apartment, Courtney was writing her will. She had hundreds of death threats every day, and she had to get it off her chest. In the background, Total Drama Island was rerunning.

"Not another rerun," Courtney said dryly. "When will they finally stop?"

She looked out the window, and she saw snowflakes falling from the sky. In Toronto, it was either a snowstorm or no snow; so snowflakes were rare. "Interesting."

Her phone begun to ring, it was her mother. Putting down the will, Courtney accepted the call. "Hi, mom?"

"Hi courtney," her mother said. "I just got the weirdest call, from a man with a-"

"Duncan?" Courtney asked. "I thought I told him to back off!"

"That's exactly what he called me about, dear. He wanted to talk to you. He wants to repair the broken bond between you," she added again.

Courtney said, "Do you have his number saved? If so, tell him I'm not in, and he can leave us alone IN PEACE!"

Her mother replied, "I didn't save her number, dear. If he calls back I'll tell him what you told me- word for word."

"Thanks Mom. How's Ainsley?" Courtney asked. She knew her parents were struggling after their accidental pregnancy. Ainsley was only 8 now, and always weirded out the 31 year old Courtney to be related to her.

"She LOVES to brag that her sister's older than some of her friends' moms," she responded. "She's such a miracle."

"It's a miracle that you're calling at 9:00 pm on a saturday," said Courtney. "I'd love to talk more, but I have work to do."

"Your just amazing, Courtney," her mother sighed. "Love you!"

As she turned off her phone and put it on the island, Courtney got back to her will. "I love when mom calls," she said to herself when her phone dinged. A message.

"Who's texting me this late?" asked Courtney as she looked at her phone.

Gwen: Enjoying my time concert. Wyd?

Courtney: writing

Gwen: what? a memo?

Courtney: a children's book called "Dee's Big Nuts"

Gwen: lol anyways how's the new place?

Courtney: it's good but td keeps rerunning on every channel

Gwen: didn't you hear?

Courtney: hear what?

Gwen: chris went missing

Courtney looked at the message Gwen sent in joy. Chris went missing! He couldn't torture anymore campers- maybe because he just got out of jail. But then again, Courtney felt a small part of her worried. Maybe this was all a hallucination, and she needed to go to bed. Closing her phone, she walked to her bed and let herself drift off.

The Next Morning

"Welp, sunday funday," Courtney said. She turned on the television, and gasped in shock to see the headline; MCCLEAN MISSING, ASSUMED DEAD. She checked her phone, and saw a million messages.

Eva: OMG CHRIS WENT MISSING

Geoff: dude did u hear?
Bridgette: chris went missing!

Heather: where are my bbq chips

Heather: wrong person

Owen: You won't believe what happened to Chris!

14 more…

"Gwen wasn't kidding!" gasped Courtney. She swiped through her messages. She now had a chat with everyone…except Duncan. "Should I try to message him?" she asked herself. "Yeah, I should."

Courtney: What's Duncan's number?
Gwen: idk, i don't think he has a phone.

"How will I contact him now?" groaned Courtney. "Maybe I can send him a letter.."

Courtney looked through her notes, hoping she saw a note containing Duncan's address. She scrolled through for a while, but she couldn't find any. "Ugh! Does ANYONE have Duncan's address?"

She sighed, then continued scrolling. "This will take FOREVER," she groaned.

Ding, dong. "Who's here?" Courtney asked. Looking at the clear door, she saw the mailman holding a letter. "Oh, it's sunday."

Courtney went to the door, and took the letter. "Thanks Noah."

Noah smiled at Courtney, then slammed the door and went back into the mail truck.

She looked at the letter, and saw who wrote it. J, Duncan. 964 Alloper Way, South River, Ontario.

"He wrote to..me?" she asked, curiously opening up the letter.

Courtney,

Meet me at the CN tower in two days.

It may kill us, or make us the most powerful people in Canada.

-Duncan

"Meet me at the CN tower in two days?" repeated Courtney. "He seriously thinks we're on good terms? WE ARE NOT ON GOOD TERMS!"

She thought more about the situation. She needed to talk to Duncan about Chris, and he was inviting her to go to the CN tower. Why was the timing so perfect?

"I guess, I'll do it," she said. "But what if he thinks I'm not coming? I better respond."

Dear Duncan

I'm In.
