Chapter 1: The Adventure Begins
Summary:
Rather than summoning his star shield, near the ending of his battle, Magolor decides to cut his losses and opens a Dimensional Rift to another world, aiming to send Kirby, Bandana Waddle Dee, King Dedede, and Meta Knight through so they can no longer threaten his goal of universal domination. Kirby manages to get his friends out of harm's way just in the nick of time, but ends up hurtling through the rift, being deposited in a distant universe where a creature known only as the Mind Flayer threatens everything. With the help of new Human allies who have dealt with this threat before, Kirby must stop this mysterious invader from beyond, save this strange new world, and through it all, try to find a way back home.

Echoes spread through the ethereal plane of Another Dimension. The chimes of Star Bullets and the enraged cries of betrayed heroes echoed across the otherworldly landscape. Four heroes; Kirby, Bandanna Waddle Dee, Meta Knight, and King Dedede. A shooting star. A trusty spear. A noble sword. A proud mallet. Their opponent: the Traitorous Sorcerer, Magolor. Hailing from a far-away world, he arrived on the home planet of the heroes, Popstar. The heroes repaired his ship, allowing him to return home.
Then the dragon struck. The dragon had bullied Magolor. She was the villain. She had to be stopped. Misunderstanding or not, she had attacked an innocent person. So Kirby and his friends had stopped her.
But Magolor was not quite so innocent. He had been after the dragon's crown all along. The Master Crown, the source of limitless power. Drunk on the power, Magolor vowed to take over the universe, starting with Kirby and co's very own Planet Popstar, the World of Miracles.
But the dragon knew the heroes were being manipulated. Unlike Magolor, they were not villainous. So the dragon helped, allowing the heroes to chase Magolor down.
And now the final battle was at hand. It was almost at an end, as a matter of fact. The heroes knew they were whittling Magolor down. He had many tricks up his sleeve, many spells and sneaky attacks.
But it was no worse than what they had faced before. They had each faced worse. King Dedede and his faithful bandana-wearing servant had faced Kirby himself and lost. Meta Knight had faced Kirby and lost. Meta Knight had defeated the Strongest Warrior in the Galaxy and taken his title as his own.
Dedede had helped defeat a Nightmare incarnate and sealed it away. Bandana Dee had helped his friends take down threats on several different planets, during the last (major) Dark Matter catastrophe.
And Kirby, the Hero of the Stars himself, had faced all manner of foes, and come out on top each and every time. Nothing could defeat him. Living Nightmares, Gods of death and darkness, wicked wizards and sorceresses, all had fallen to his hands (and occasional lack thereof).
And this time would be no different.
"Gah!" Magolor yelled in his now monstrously-deep voice, having taken a direct jab from Bandana Dee's spear. With a shout, Fighter Kirby delivered a midair Spin Kick to Magolor's face. Dedede snuck under the floating wizard and hit him with the blazing pain of Hammer Flip.
With everyone else on the ground and out of the attack's range, Meta Knight saw the perfect opportunity, and hid himself within his cape. The entire battlefield went dark. And then, a blazing slice of pure energy cut through the air, at the height of Magolor's torso.
Magolor screamed.
Galaxia Darkness had once more saved the day. The final blow had been struck.
Or so the group thought.
Magolor was still breathing.
"Ghhhh…!" Magolor hissed. The friends assembled. Kirby at the front. Bandee and Meta flanking him on either side. Dedede intimidatingly bringing up the rear, hammer slung over his shoulder.
"Ugh! You little interlopers!" Magolor roared. "You dare defy your king?!" He demanded. "The only king I see 'round here is me!" Dedede said, southern accent thick as ever. "G-Great King's right!" Bandee declared, voice its normal, high-pitched, nervous self, though he stood firm. "Real kings protect their people! They guide them with a gentle hand! Y-you're just a power-hungry tyrant that wants to dominate w-with an iron fist!" Dee cried.
"Yeah! You tell 'im, Dee!" Dedede said, grinning proudly as he held out his fist for his little assistant to bump.
"Magolor, you are nothing more than a power-mad traitor." Meta Knight said in his thick Spanish accent, blunt as ever. "Your actions are heinous and dishonorable. You will pay the price."
Kirby simply tensed up his fighting stance, glaring fiercely. "You're a liar and a meanie, Magolor!" Said Kirby in his high-pitched, childish voice. "I thought you were my friend! We had so many fun times together, poyo…" Kirby trailed off as tears appeared in his eyes.
Magolor flinched, taken aback and hesitating for just a second. Hope soared in Kirby's heart. Would his friend come back to him? Kirby's hopes were shot down like the Lor Starcutter when it returned to Halcandra's skies as Magolor's eyes settled into a glare once more.
"Very well. It's just like I said, Kirby. You truly are a formidable warrior." Then, under his breath, Kirby thought he heard Magolor say something like "Just as Marx warned me," as he looked away briefly.
But that was surely Kirby's imagination. Marx was dead. Kirby blew him up the first time, then sliced him in half and watched those two halves explode the second time.
Either way, Magolor was looking straight at Kirby and his friends again. "All of you are formidable, actually. At the rate this is going, I must admit, I will not survive. This will be the first and only time I will admit imminent defeat to an enemy for all of my eternal reign over the universe, so don't take such a compliment lightly," Magolor said.
Dedede sniffed, which was technically impossible, because he had a beak, not a nose. He managed, though. Kirby heard him mutter "Jeez, was I this annoying when I used to act all high and mighty?" under his breath.
Magolor heard it. His eyelid twitched, but it seemed like he wasn't going to give the heroes the satisfaction of ruining his speech. "I cannot defeat you. Not without going down with you," Magolor said simply. Kirby noticed that the runes that served as his wrists were now glowing a brighter white than before, and they were beginning to spin faster than usual. They usually only spun that fast when-!
Magolor's mouth had always been concealed from Kirby and his friends. Fortunately, his luminous eyes always filled in for the missing facial expressions.
Right now, Magolor's eyes were laughing.
"So, why not choose the next best option?" He asked maliciously. Kirby heard his allies shifting into battle stances around him. Magolor spun his floating hands about, and a giant version of the runes that served as his wrists materialized in front of him.
Magolor crossed his hands and teleported away as that rune then opened into a massive, five-pointed Star-shaped portal that immediately began sucking the heroes toward it. They all ran in the opposite direction with everything they had, but this rift's suction was far stronger than the ones Magolor had previously used as attacks.
The heroes were being pulled towards the rift. Kirby looked around. Bandanna Dee, his best friend, looked terrified. Dedede, Kirby's former rival, whose friendship with Kirby had been forged over years of rivalry into something truly remarkable, was grimacing. Meta Knight, Kirby's mentor, the closest thing he had to a father, was as stoic as ever.
The heroes' slow slide towards the rift was speeding up. They were already fatigued from the previous battle. They could only run for so long. The cold air rushed past Kirby's small body and roared in his nonexistent ears.
He was scared.
But suddenly, he knew what he had to do. Kirby dropped his ability, and the Ability Star was immediately sucked backwards into the rift. Then, Kirby opened his mouth wide, and inhaled, still running. He increased his power, soon executing the skill he had developed during his Mirror World adventure five years ago, his Super Inhale.
Bandana Dee tumbled into his impossibly-wide mouth. Then Meta Knight. Hearing what was going on, Dedede turned around to face Kirby. He looked concerned. "Kirby? What are ya-"
Dedede tumbled into Kirby's mouth.
It was hard to run away from the rift with all the added weight, but Kirby had to get some extra distance to give this shot in the dark the best possible chance of succeeding.
So Kirby ran. He ran with all his might. He thought of all the friends he had made throughout the years. Rick, Kine, and Coo. ChuChu, Nago, and Pitch. Gooey. Adeleine. Ribbon. He thought of his three colorful counterparts, of his Mirror World self. He thought of Daroach. He thought of one of his other best buddies, Prince Fluff.
And the memories of them gave him strength. Kirby ran as fast as his large feet could take him, managing to make it a further five feet from the rift. Then, he jumped up.
He knew the second he stopped resisting its pull, he would go flying into the rift. So the second his feet left the ground, he spat his friends out as a massive yellow Star Bullet orbited by two smaller ones, and that Star Bullet shot forward at high speeds.
In no time, the bullet had left the rift's suction range, and had turned back into his friends. They got their bearings and turned around just in time to get one last look at Kirby.
The rift's suction was strong enough on its own, but Kirby's Star Spit had also propelled him backwards, towards the rift, and he was already in the air, anyway. Thus, only a split second later, he was tumbling into the rift.
He had only enough time to smile sadly at his friends, and to hear their anguished cries of "KIRBY!!!" before he was tumbling through a void of color, the rift he had come through naught but a speck in the distance of the ether.
And thus, his newest adventure began.
