Balto and Jenna went to investigate what was going on up above in the clinic. "Good night, Rosy," said the voice of the Doctor.
"I'm so cold!" said Rosy's voice.
"I have another blanket right here," the Doctor told her with comfort in his voice, "Now you just stay warm and get some rest." Then he walked over to another room.
Balto and Jenna were still down below the clinic as they moved over to hear more of what was wrong with Rosy. "Doctor, how is she?" asked Rosy's father.
"Exhausted," the Doctor sighed with concern, "And her fever's getting worse. Looks like diphtheria." Down below, Jenna gasped with shock while the Doctor looked through his medicine cabinet and continued with sorrow, "She's the eighteenth case this week. And… I am out of antitoxin."
Balto looked up with shock, while Jenna breathed heavily with despair and walked away. "Jenna?" Balto softly called to her, "Jenna, I'm sorry!" He then sprinted after her just as she got back to the boiler room.
Qimmia was waiting for the two dogs inside the boiler room. "Jenna, what happened?" the native girl asked with concern when she saw Jenna.
"It's Rosy, Qimmia," Jenna said sadly, "She's very ill, and the doctor doesn't have the right medicine to make her feel better!"
At that moment, Balto arrived. "I didn't mean to upset you," he breathed, "I-I shouldn't have taken you down there!"
"No, I'm glad you did," Jenna said to him with a sad smile.
Balto then looked at Qimmia. "Are you okay?" he asked her.
"Balto, I'm fine," she said to him, "I just thought I saw some colorful lights out in the snow."
But then, a loud crash was heard from outside. Everyone looked to see Steele crash through a fence with a string of sausages in his mouth. "Steele!" gasped Jenna.
"Where on earth did you get that meat?" Qimmia asked with an angry look as she put her hands on her hips.
Steele grunted as he cleared the boards away and smugly walked into the boiler room. "Well, well, what's wrong with this picture?" he asked slyly. He frowned at Qimmia and snarled, "Step away, Eskimo!" Then, he moved the sausage chain over Jenna and said to her, "Jenna, join me for dinner! You start at one end, I'll start at the other, and when we get to the middle…" He chuckled and finished, "Well, you tell me!"
Balto showed his teeth and growled, "Alright, Steele!"
"No, Balto!" whispered Jenna before she decided to seemingly play along with Steele. The two of them giggled as they held the chain of sausages.
Balto and Qimmia watched the two huskies with glares before Jenna looked back at Balto and the Inupiat girl and motioned them to look at the boiler with a burning flame. "Balto, I think Jenna wants us to get rid of Steele!" Qimmia whispered to the wolf-dog with a smirk.
Balto looked at the boiler and smirked back.
"Gee, Steele," said Jenna as she moved in front of Steele and made him back in front of the boiler, "I have to admit – your offer is very tempting."
"It is," Steele chuckled slyly as he moved back to the open heat.
"That's it," Qimmia whispered in a barely audible voice, "You'll get what's coming to you, Steele!"
"But these days, I prefer mine… cooked," Jenna finished with a fake seductive smile.
At that moment, Steele moved his rear end up too close to the boiler's flame door and then smelled something burning. He yelped and howled when he realized that his behind was literally burning up!
"Come on, let's go!" Balto cried to Jenna and Qimmia.
"Run for it!" added Qimmia as she and her two furry friends ran out of the boiler room. She immediately closed the door behind her, but Steele broke through the wood, with his sausages still in his mouth; he fell on top of Qimmia, pushing her face-forward into the snow.
Just then, some voices were heard from a short distance. "What's all the noise?" asked one voice as a light was seen along the fence.
"I think it's over here!" said the voice of Rosy's father.
"Jenna! Qimmia, come on!" Balto urged his friends.
As Qimmia got up to her feet and ran, Steele gasped when he realized he could be in trouble for stealing sausages from the butcher's shop. As the light came closer, Steele quickly thought of a scheme; he tossed the chain of sausages away and pointed to Balto, who had been struck and caught with the sausage chain. Qimmia, who was now ahead of Balto and Jenna, turned and gasped with shock to see Rosy's father and the town butcher shining a light on Balto, thinking that he had stolen the sausages.
"Looks like Balto's found his way into your meat locker!" said Rosy's father.
"It's a good thing Steele was here," said the butcher as he picked the sausage chain up and gave it to Steele, "Good boy, Steele! You've earned these! Besides, I can't do anything with them after that wild animal's touched them!"
Rosy's father furiously kicked snow at Balto and ordered him, "Go on! Get outta here, you thief!" Jenna tried to go after him, but her master took her by the bandana and said sternly, "Come on, Jenna, let's go home!"
"NOW JUST A MINUTE!" yelled an angry female voice.
Rosy's father shined the light to view Qimmia, who was furious over Balto getting blamed.
"What do you want, girl?" the father asked with a glare.
"My Balto would never steal other people's food!" Qimmia shot at the two men, "It was STEELE who took the sausages!"
Steele stopped eating the sausages and gave a shocked look before he growled at Qimmia.
"Steele is a champion hero of our town!" the butcher retorted at the girl, "You and your wolf-dog are wild, untamed beasts!"
"That's not true!" Qimmia yelled back as she approached the men, ready to fight them, "Balto and I are gentle creatures! We only fight to defend ourselves and others!"
"Like how your animal was lying on the ground with my meat?" the butcher asked angrily.
"If you'll only listen!" Qimmia groaned with anger, "I'm telling the truth! Balto and I are very honest, and we…"
"NOT ANOTHER WORD!" yelled Rosy's father, "Be off with you, Eskimo! And you and your pet stay away from my Jenna from now on! Understand?"
Qimmia just glared at the two men with tears forming in her eyes, before stomping off to find Balto.
As everyone left the scene, a different man was scene putting up a snow-covered sign on the main hospital entry door. He brushed the snow off to reveal the word "QUARANTINE."
