A day after the eggwhich incident, Duel Academy is hosting its annual exhibition where they display the deck of famous Legendary Duelist and this time they're displaying the deck of Seto Kaiba, who is the rival of King of Games Yugi Muto and the founder of Duel Academy. It was a busy day at Card Shack and many students and teachers are lined up in queue eager to get tickets for the exhibition just to see Kaiba's deck.
Koyo and Taku head to the card shack to get some tickets for the exhibition and they saw a banner and advertisement to get tickets near the entrance and they walked in and groaned when they saw their were many students lined up in queue, because both the boys hated waiting in a queue for so slong. Koyo looked around and notice there were several posters of Seto Kaiba with his ace Blue-Eyes White Dragon across the hall.
"Thanks for coming to buy tickets with me." Koyo said to Taku "Knowing that Misawa would be late to get his ticket, it's better to have another guy to back me up for tickets."
"No problem, Koyo!" Taku said. "Besides, I'm getting Ryo's ticket."
"She's gonna be late, too?" Koyo asked.
"Actually, I'm surprising her." Taku replied. "Plus, she's with Ayukawa-sensei with something."
"Next, please!" Koyo and Taku walked up to counter where Tome-san and Sadie were selling the tickets. "Koyo-kun! Takumi-kun! How may I help you?"
"We need four tickets, please." Taku spoke up.
"We got friends that couldn't make it here, so we'd buy the tickets for them." Koyo added.
"Isn't that sweet?" Tome-san said cheerfully. "Well, we have only four left and..." She looked around to see all the students having bought their tickets. "Everyone's been able to buy them, so..."
"WAIIIT!" A voice called out as a familiar Ra Yellow ran through the crowd and in front of Taku
"Dimitri?" Koyo greeted. "What's up, bro?"
After catching his breath, Dimitri spoke up. "I wanted to buy a ticket! They can't all be gone!"
"Sorry, but these two bought the last ones." Tome apologized. The Ra growled and turned Koyo and Taku
"You guys already have tickets!" Dimitri yelled. "Who's the other two for!?"
"We bought them for Misawa and Ryo..." Koyo replied.
"They couldn't make it, so we got it for them." Taku added.
"So what!?" The frustrated Ra said. "Tough for them!"
As then the bell ringed, it was the start of classes, Koyo and Taku were unfortunately late for, "OH CRAP!" Everyone then started running in for their respective classes, Koyo head to Professor Chronos class, and opened the door. Everyone was glaring at him including Chronos.
"Sorry for being late Chronos-sensei I was…getting a ticket for tomorrow's viewing on Kaiba's deck." He bowed
"Wait, that's today?!" A random Slifer asked
All of the students began to go wild and eager to run towards the Card Shack, but they were stopped by Chronos who had a stern look on his face , "Mamma Mia! Now, students. I know all of you are eager to see his deck, so why not go after class?" All of the students looked back at him and gave him a nod. They returned to their seats as Chronos began to continue his lectures.
Koyo was tired, to say the least. Since it was Friday, he had to go through Chronos class, then two hours with his sister Midori's class, Stein's class, break time, Ayukawa's PE class and two hours of Banner's Alchemy class.
The next day Koyo went to the exhibition and he looked around to the halls and even the floor was covered by Kaiba's merchandise, such as posters, carpets and even plushies. He opened the door of display deck too take a good view on Kaiba's deck and was amazed to see the Blue-Eyes archetype and wished he could face off Kaiba one day.
After the exhibition Koyo walked to a nearby store, where they sell Kaiba's and Blue-Eyes merchandise such as plushies, mug, stationery items, bedsheets and poster which they open only for today because of the exhibition.
Koyo was going all over the designs of the T-shirts that had Seto Kaiba's print in it as he couldn't decide to pick out the aqua coloured one or the Tank top style with two different shades of blue.
While he was walking around, with t-shirts which are appropriate sizes in between his shoulders, he could hear Anna burst through the door and rushed up to him.
"What's up Anna?" Koyo greeted
"Koyo its Dimitri all over again!" Anna said looking panic and stressed.
They hurriedly left the main building and ran to the forest until Koyo met someone unusual. It was Dimitri impersonating him. He wore a wig that is identical to his hair and clad in a Ra Yellow uniform which is identical to Koyo's.
Dimitri smirked at Koyo. "You put up a good fight.!"
Koyo looked flabbergasted as he took a step back. "Do I really sound that Boisterous ?" he asked Anna bluntly
Anna sighed. "I don't have the answer to your question".
A week after the exhibition, Duel Academy is hosting its annual expo where students from all dorms get to contribute and host some events for the expo and their families and outsiders are invited to take part which is similar to Duel Monsters Spirit Day but it lasts for a couple of days. The crowd was abuzz with activity as the usually quite island school that was Duel Academy was alive and bristling with more than just the usual crowd of students moving to and from their study hall to their dorm rooms. From the vantage point of his office, Samejima observed them; parents, siblings and even attendees of Dueling Preparatory Schools had flocked across the sea to the island to behold all the wonders the Island Academy had; the scenic view, the enthused students…even a museum of the history of dueling comparable to anything outside the one present at Industrial Illusion Headquarters. But above all it was the students that were on display; bright, hopeful, a shining example of what the academy had to offer them in their pathway to the future. Why all he had to do was look at the list of stalls and activities the students themselves were in charge of running. He looked down at the sheet of paper, outlining everything…and his jaw immediately dropped. While activities like Trivia Contests run by the Ra Yellow dorm and Cosplay duels led by the Slifer Red dorm were acceptable…but a SWIMSUIT CAFÉ run by the Obelisk Blue Girls Dorm?!!
Samejima groaned…before jumping in alarm as a hand descended onto his shoulder, the principal turning to see Liam Princeton standing there, a smile on his face. Samejima exhaled slowly. "Why so serious, Samejima?" Liam asked, "The expo is proving to be a huge success." Liam reached down to Samejima's desk, whereupon there sat a pair of wine glasses and a bottle of wine. Samejima looked at him…before smiling and accepting a glass of wine.
"Shame your wife, Nancy, couldn't be here today," Samejima noted.
Liam paused for a moment, before sighing. "Yeah, it is," he replied, "This could be Slade's big break…but this morning she was insistent on leaving Slade as alone as possible." Liam took a sip from his glass. "She called a Helicopter and was gone just after daybreak." Samejima looked down. "It's a shame," Liam continued, "I know she was harsh on all three of my sons, but I honestly think she wanted what was best for him…until recently anyway."
Samejima looked out the window again, before gesturing Liam to join him. The senior Princeton walked over to Samejima and joined him in gazing out onto the island, the Principal pointing to a particular crowd of visitors. "The Duel Prep students have arrived!" Samejima exclaimed.
Liam chuckled. "Looks like we should be heading to the arena soon then," Liam replied, taking another sip from his glass, "…I hope this Fujiwara Yuna is capable of putting on a good show." Samejima nodded.
"Trust me on this, Mister Princeton," The Principal beamed, "Neither you nor our visitors will be disappointed!"
Seika blushed furiously as she walked between the tables, clad in a one white one-piece swimsuit with a pink ribbon tied to the left shoulder, a maid like cap upon her head. In her hands she held a tray with several beverages and cakes which she placed down upon a table with a mother and her child, a blonde haired young man in a white jacket and pants. The boy's mother thanked Seika before she returned and looked at her fellow Blue Girls. Most of them were clad in the uniform navy blue leotards though there were a couple of exceptions in the forms of Anna, the brown-haired student wearing a navy blue two piece bikini…and Emi Ayukawa herself, wearing a low-cut leotard that exposed her cleavage. Seika smiled before looking towards the main academy building, hearing the increasingly loud crowd that had gathered inside…a part of her longing to be in there, co-leading ceremonies as Miss Duel Academia. But that's not my role anymore…
"Quite exquisite," came a calm, but firm voice from behind Seika, the young woman jumping as she saw Mitsumasa the father of Taku seated at a table behind her, a warm cup of tea and a slice of cake topped with whipped cream in front of him. He looked up from his tea to her, a warm smile upon his face. "This tea, it's quite lovely," he noted again, Seika stepping over to his table, "It's not just the brewing and ultimate presentation of the Tea that is to be admired…it's the cultivation of the leaves, nurtured and ultimately brought forward to realize its full potential…"
"That's very kind of you, Mr Tatsuragi," Seika replied, bowing a little, "But we import our tea to the island-"
Mitsumasa chuckled. "I wasn't going to bore you with a long rant about Tea just for the sake of it, Miss Kohinata," Mitsumasa quickly interjected, "I was going to do it because you remind me of this Tea. Beautiful, delightful, a wonder to enjoy…but transient and fleeting, a mere moment of enjoyment." Seika looked down. "…but that is why I have and offer for you," Mitsumasa continued, "A proposition for your future." Seika looked up at Mitsumasa, seeing the man gesture to the seat across from him. She hesitated for a moment…before pulling out the chair and sitting down…
Ryo found herself uncomfortable she sat behind a table just outside the stands within the Duelling Arena of the main Academy building, the stands flooded with a mixture of students and visitors, all abuzz with energy. Next to her sat Taku, the young man's green eyes alternating between scanning the stands and then glancing over to her, as if to check on her wellbeing. Ryo looked to the table in front of her; a clipboard with several sheets of paper rested in front of a special AR Scanner that had a Microphone attached to it. Taku had previously had a similar scanner upon the desk in front of him, but the Tatsuragi already put it on without a care. She checked the time on a clock located above the stands and then the paper in front of her…it was almost time to begin.
As soon as the clock changed times, the lighting in the arena began to dim. Ryo gasped before quickly fixing the AR Scanner onto her face. As the lights finished dimming, she cleared her throat and activated the device, a spotlight beaming down upon. "Good afternoon, ladies, gentlemen and visitors of all ages," she began, her voice brimming with confidence, "On behalf of all the Students and Staff, I'd like to welcome you to Duel Academy." She paused for a moment. "My name is Ryo Marufuji."
"And I'm Takumi Tatsuragi," Taku added.
"Here at Duel Academy, we strive for excellence in our craft," Ryo continued, "Each day, we learn and practice the art of Duelling with the goal of bettering both our skills and ourselves." She looked around, her gaze meeting that of Anna, the young woman sitting in the stand with a Blue Girls top draped over her shoulders now. "Which is why for today's events we have two presentations for you; Firstly a Duel between one of our Academy's brightest rising stars as well as a representative of the future enrolling class." There was a brief applause from the crowd, allowing Ryo to read the script she'd been given…before smiling as an idea formed in her mind. "Followed by a rematch months in the making, a duel between two of the finest among the Freshman year; Koyo Hibiki versus Slade Princeton!" The crowd cheered again, Taku joining in the applause as he smiled at Ryo, the blue haired woman blushing a little before nodding to him.
Taku flicked through the script before settling on the relevant page. "Now, for our first event," Taku stated, "We pit one of the enrolled students who is a sophomore middle schooler against one of our freshman. A preview of the kind of competition they'll be facing in just a few months' time." Taku gestured with Ryo to their left. "Representing the Freshman Class of Duel Academy, she's the student that emphasizes the Bright in Best and Brightest. She'll answer any question, counter any strategy your throw at her and she is considered as one of the top beauty Queens of Obelisk Blue!" "Let's give a round of applause to Fujiwara Yuna!" Ryo chimed in, the crowd answering her call to action. A second spotlight shone towards the entryway of the arena as Yuna stepped proudly forth to the sound of both cheering and applause. The Obelisk waved to the crowds before stepping out onto the arena proper. "And now, representing our future enrolling class," Ryo continued, the applause dying down as she did, "She's the Maid that's made all the right choices, the rising star of the Dueling Preparatory schools." She gestured to the right of the stage. "Duelling to keep her dreams alive…it's Satome Rei!" A third spotlight shone down to the right, shining around a young girl about two years the junior of the Freshman Students. Her Blue hair hung straight to just above her waistline. She wore denim shorts and a denim sleeveless vest cut short over a short cut yellow shirt that, along with her vest, exposed her midriff. She waved enthusiastically to the crowd before dashing up onto the arena proper. She blew kisses to some of the onlookers before looking to Taku and Ryo…the girl winking at the Tatsuragi, Ryo quietly growling after switching her mic off for a moment.
Yuna grinned as Rei quickly regarded her "Wait…you're my opponent?" she questioned, "You must be Fujiwara Yuna-san."
The Obelisk Student chuckled a little in reply. "You are Satome Rei one of the top students in your school," Yuna replied.
Rei activated her Duel Disk. "…How about we sweeten our wager, Yuna-san?" Rei quickly added, Yuna looking at her again, "If I beat you, we trade schools."
Yuna smirked. "…why stop there? If you win, we'll trade schools …and…you can even have my spot as the Obelisk Blue Queen and probably your pick of all the boys." Rei's eyes lit up at the prospect; every man in the Obelisk Blue dorm competing for her attention and affection. Buying her rare cards, writing songs and creating art of her.
She grinned. "To be honest I have no interest in Obelisk Blue dorm, because I heard that majority of the students are snob, so if I were to enroll here, it would be Slifer Red because red suits me". Rei answered, drawing her first five cards. "I think I'll have Mr Tatsuragi treat me to a…private massage session after I'm done wiping the floor with you." Yuna smirked again, while Ryo Jaw-dropped and Taku did a spit take after drinking a bottle of water as the pair placed AR Scanners onto their faces as they activated their Duel Disks.
"DUEL!!!" They exclaimed, the crowd roaring in approval.
Turn 1 Yuna
Yuna looked at her hand. "I'll go first," she stated, "And I'll start by summoning my Glacial Beast Blizzard Wolf!" An ice stalagmite rose up from the ground in front of Yuna before bursting open to reveal a blue-furred wolf with many icicles forming and extending from its fur (ATK 1400). "Then I'll set one card face down and end my turn." A face down card appeared behind Yuna's wolf.
Taku began to blubber. "Oh Yuna, you're using your Ice Deck again?" Taku questioned, "Couldn't you use your Clear deck for your Kamui's sake?!"
Ryo blinked. "Wait…what do you mean?" she questioned.
Taku looked at Ryo, still sniffling a little. "Yuna has two decks," he answered, "That phony Ice Deck she spent months refining before coming here…and her real deck that she and Kamui had built together many years ago."
Yuna glared at Taku again. "THIS IS MY REAL DECK!!!" Yuna roared again, Taku practically leaping out of his skin in sudden panic. Ryo laughed, bending forward as she steadied herself.
Turn 2 Rei
"Then it's my move, I draw!" Rei declared, drawing a card from her deck, "I'll start by activating my Ancient Rules spell card!" A glow of light filled with runes and letters appeared in front of her. "With this spell, I can special summon a high-level Normal Monster from my hand…so I'll call out Wingweaver!" A torrent of feathers rose up from within the runic light as a six-winged angel with long hair and a golden robe rose up out of the ground in front of Rei (ATK 2750). "And next I'll summon my Command Knight!" Next to the Wingweaver appeared a woman clad in red armour with a black cape and cap, brandishing an arming sword and round shield (ATK 1200). "My Command Knight has a pretty spiffy effect," Rei continued, "She can raise the attack of all Warrior monsters I control by 400!" A red aura surrounded the Command Knight as she raised her sword in front of her in a salute (ATK 1200 - 1600). "Battle! Command Knight attacks your Blizzard Wolf!" The Command Knight dashed forward, sword raised and ready to strike.
Yuna grinned. "Sorry, but I activate the effect of my Blizzard Wolf!" Yuna shot back, "My wolf can negate your attack!" The Wolf howled and snarled as a wall of Ice formed in front of it, stopping the Command Knight's attack. Yuna slid a card out of her hand. "What's more is that when my Wolf does this, I can then summon a level 4 or lower Water monster from my hand…like my Glacial Beast Polar Penguin!" A figure leaped over Yuna to stand next to the Blizzard Wolf; a Penguins whose wings and body were encase in ice (ATK 800). "And when this birdy comes out to play, his effect lets me send a monster on your field back to your hand…so say goodbye to your Wingweaver!" The Polar Penguin slid across the field before delivering a surprising uppercut to the Wingweaver, the angel vanishing as Rei returned the card to her hand.
Rei looked at her hand. "Since I can't attack you further," she stated, "I'll set these two cards face down and end my turn." Two set cards appeared behind Rei's monster. "You're up, Yuna-san"
Turn 3 Yuna
Yuna nodded. "Now I draw," she stated, looking at her card, "I'll start things off by using my Level 3 Polar Penguin to tune my Level 4 Blizzard Wolf into a new monster!" The Polar Penguin leaped into the air, transforming into three rings through which the Blizzard Wolf leaped, the cold canine transforming into four stars that were consumed with a beam of blue light. "I Synchro Summon…Glacial Beast Iceberg Narwhal!" A cold wind howled through the arena as snow and ice flooded outwards from the light…to reveal a large, muscular serpentine beast with one clawed arm and the other with a hand that resembled some kind of ice narwhal (ATK 2700).
Rei grinned. "I activate my Trap; Tuner Capture!" Rei's set card flipped up as a large claw on the end of a crane appeared between the pair. "When you Synchro Summon a monster, I can use this trap to Special Summon the Tuner you used to my field…so your Polar Penguin becomes mine!" A portal opened in the ground through which the claw descended…before rising back up with the Polar Penguin in its grasp. "And, as I recall, Polar Penguin has the effect that if its Special Summoned, the opponent has to send a monster back to their hand…and you only have one monster; Your Iceberg Narwhal." Yuna gasped as the Polar Penguin struggled within the claw, swinging it here and there, it's ice-covered wing slapping away the Iceberg Narwhal, which then vanished from site, before the claw apparatus released its grip, the Penguin flying onto Rei's side of the field. "And that's just the first thing I'm taking from you."
Yuna returned the Iceberg Narwhal card back to her Extra Deck before looking at her hand again. She'll most likely summon her Wingweaver again next turn, so I have to prepare. "Then I'll summon my Blizzard Dragon!" A roar sounded as, from atop the Academy ceiling proper, descended a dragon with a pale underside, wings growing along its front limbs (ATK 1800), the creature landing at rest in front of Yuna. "Now I'll use my Blizzard Dragon's effect! Once per turn, I can freeze one of your monsters in place meaning you can't attack with them or change their battle positions…so I pick the Polar Penguin! Put him on ice, Blizzard Dragon!" The Blizzard Dragon opened its maw, unleashing a torrent of snow and ice that quickly encased the Polar Penguin in a block of solid ice. Now she can't crash the Polar Penguin into my Blizzard Dragon to use its effect, returning my Dragon to my hand upon destruction. "I'll set another card face down and end my turn." A second face down card appeared next to Yuna's first. "Alright, Rei bring it on."
Turn 4 Rei
"Oh, I will," Rei shot back, drawing another card, "First…I'll activate my Pot of Greed to draw two more cards." Rei slid two more cards from her deck. "Next I'll activate my Mystical Space Typhoon…and I'll destroy the card you set on your first turn." A gale of magical wind flew forward blowing Yuna's set card into the air before it detonated, Rei catching sight of what it was. "Ice Barrier…that would have been a troublesome card." Rei then gestured to her set card. "Now I'll activate this; Cost Down!" Rei's set card flippedq. "By discarding one card, I can lower the level of monsters in my hand by two." Yuna gasped. "This make Wingweaver a level five monster so I only need one sacrifice…and your Polar Penguin will do that nicely!" The Polar Penguin and the ice encasing it vanished…and in its place rose the Wingweaver once more. "And now I equip Wingweaver with Mage Power! This Spell raises the equipped monster by 500 points for every spell I control." A golden glow surrounded Wingweaver (ATK 2750 - 3250).
Yuna narrowed her eyes. She looked at her Blizzard Dragon and then the cards in her hand. "Battle!" Rei declared, pointing at Blizzard Dragon, "Wingweaver will destroy your dragon!" The Wingweaver rose up into the air, its six wings glowing alight with holy power…
"I activate my trap card; Doble Passé!" Yuna declared, "Your attack becomes a direct attack…but in exchange, my Dragon gets to take a shot at your life points!" The Wingweaver flung its wings forward, a cascade of golden feathers bombarding Yuna, her LP taking a nosedive to 750. However, in that same instant, the Blizzard Dragon unleashed its own attack towards Rei, the chilled wind unleashed by the dragon lowering Rei's LP to 2200.
Rei glance at Yuna. "Since my Command Knight can't destroy your Dragon, I have to end my turn."
Turn 5 Yuna
Yuna nodded, drawing her next card. "I play my own Pot of Greed!" Yuna declared, drawing two more cards, "I now summon Reece the Ice Mistress!" A pale-skinned woman appeared next to Yuna's dragon, clad in a bra and skirt with a snowflake-shaped headdress (ATK 800). "Let's try this again. I tune my Blizzard Dragon with my Reece the Ice Mistress." Reece transformed into a pair of rings which the Blizzard Dragon flew through, transforming into four stars. "I break the seal of Ice to bring forth a creature of catastrophic proportions! I Synchro Summon…Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!" A beam of light shot through the rings…before freezing entirely. Moments later…the pillar of ice exploded, revealing the serpentine form of Brionac, the creature of ice roaring as it towered over Rei's monsters (ATK 2300). "And now I activate Brionac's effect!" Yuna continued, "Once per turn, I can discard cards from my hand. Then I send that many cards back to your hand." Yuna held up the two remaining cards in her hand. "I send both of these cards to the graveyard to return Wingweaver and Command Knight to your hand." Brionac flapped its wings, causing a howling tornado to roll across the field, the frozen wind sending both Wingweaver and Command Knight flying, Rei adding the cards back to her hand.
Anna smiled as she watched this. I understand why she activated that Doble Passé trap. Yes, she'd take a massive amount of damage. But in order to summon Brionac she needed to preserve her Blizzard Dragon and to do that she had to take that hit. Of course, getting that damage in on Rei means that Brionac is capable of finishing her off on this turn. Very bold, Yuna…but now I understand you. She chuckled.
"Battle!" Yuna declared, pointing towards Rei, "Brionac attacks you directly!" The mighty ice dragon roared, opening its maw and unleashing a blizzard towards Reuli, the Middle schooler student being launched off her feet as her LP emptied to 0. Yuna exhaled as the image of her monster faded. She deactivated her Duel Disk before walking over to Rei as the crowd began to cheer for her victory. Rei groaned as she began to sit up…and gasped as Yuna offered her hand up. "That was a good duel," Yuna stated, smiling, "I've got a few pointers for you, but you've definitely earned a spot in Duel Academy as far as I'm concerned." Rei smiled, back accepting the hand and rising to her feet. "Thanks," replied she, "This duel has only fired me up even more!" She grinned. "Even if I have to wait until two year to do it…I'm going to be best duelist at this academy!" She looked first to Taku and Ryo…before instinctively looking up into the stands and locking gazes with Koyo
The yellow-clad studmiled as he felt something stirring inside him; an excitement he felt only when he got near the likes of Ryo, Slade, Anna, Yuna, Taku,…and now Rei. He grinned; now he had something else to look forward to here at Duel Academy.
Notes
Finally Yuna gets to shine and she is completely different from Yusuke Fujiwara in canon and I gave her an ice deck instead of a light or Clear deck and this chapter I introduced Rei and it is completely different from canon and I gave her a light deck similar to Lightsworn. She will get a prominent role in S3. Next chapter is going to be Slade vs Koyo R3.
