When they arrived at the hospital, Carlisle was already waiting for them. "She's in good hands here." He began once everyone was in the waiting room. "It's a level 1 pediatric trauma center, and some of Seattle Children's PICU doctors work here too. I've got all my trust in them."

"She needs you, not them." Rosalie murmured as she sat down.

"She will be okay, Rose." Carlisle tried to reassure her. "She did well on the flight over, but they're working on withdrawing the sedation at the moment. She should be able to breathe on her own as there aren't any airway issues. We've inserted a nasogastric tube also so that we can work on stabilizing her weight as she is severely underweight and malnourished. She does have a concussion but no damage to the brain from what can be seen on the MRI. There are a few broken bones. The bruises will heal in time, as well as the wounds and bites, but the burns will need some attention from the specialist team."

Carlisle glanced at Rosalie briefly before turning to the rest of the family. "She will need to be examined properly by the police so they can map all her injuries, but I don't think there are any signs of sexual abuse."

Rosalie let out a small breath and Emmett pulled her close.

"I'll go in and check on her again, alright?" Carlisle murmured, kissing Esme's forehead softly, before heading off.

Emmett was holding Rosalie tight to his side, as though he knew she may bolt or do something stupid if he didn't.

Despite the rage, the heartache, the sick feeling coursing through her body -she remained seated, hoping Emmett's embrace would ground her. "God, we let this happen to her. How the fuck did this happen to her? We were right there." She felt so guilty.

"No one imagined Charlie was doing something like this to her." Esme closed her eyes briefly. "She's just a child. That poor, poor child."

Edward closed his eyes briefly, his hand entwined in his messy curls. "We need to find him. That sick bastard needs to pay for what he's done to her. I can't imagine how terrified she was, how scared she was. How utterly alone. I wish she had come to us, to me."

"It's not that simple, Edward." Rosalie murmured, still clinging to Emmett's chest. Although her abuse had been brief as a human, it didn't make it any easier. Human memories faded easily if they didn't cling onto them, and Rosalie looked to Esme quietly knowing that she still remembered parts of her abusive relationship as a human. The painful memories were the hardest to forget.

Eventually Carlisle came out again. He'd now changed into a simple blue sweater and black pants that had been in his work bag. He ran a hand through his hair - a sign that he was stressed. "She's waking up slowly. She's quite disorientated, but she's asking for you, Rose. She's very hesitant about any men going near her though."

Rosalie stood immediately, but moved over to Edward. He looked rejected and deflated, and she squeezed his shoulder gently. "I'll look after her, Ed. Give her time."

He simply nodded and smiled in thanks.

Carlisle led Rosalie down a few corridors before stopping at a private room. "She's slowly coming round. Like I said, she's not really with it but she keeps saying your name when she gets the chance. You and Esme are the ones who can relate to her the most. Perhaps she senses that. Just tread carefully, she's very fragile. Her left arm needs a cast due to a fracture so try and avoid touching that. We're still waiting for the team to come and assess her. I'll stay right outside if you need me, but male presence is distressing her at the moment so it's best I don't go in."

Rosalie nodded, taking a deep breath that wasn't necessary before she walked into the room.

Bella was propped up slightly. A feeding tube was taped to one side of her cheek. Her eyes were gently closed. The swelling of the one eye had increased now and it was likely Bella wouldn't be able to open that eye. Her neck was covered in bruises; some almost looking like a hand mark. Rosalie moved her eyes to the rest of Bella's body, grateful for the blanket pulled up over her. Bella's bare arms were exposed, displaying a canvas of deep purple and red bruises as well as cuts. There was a large dressing over the burn Rosalie had previously seen on Bella's arm, and the other arm was tied to the railing of the bed so that it was partially immobilized because of the fracture.

"Rose." Bella's voice was weak and quiet; barely audible above the constant sounds of the machines.

"I'm right here, Bella." Rosalie murmured. She approached the bed slowly and ran her hand down a patch on Bella's face that was free from bruising or injury.

Bella's one eyelid fluttered before opening; just briefly. Her injured eye remained shut like Rosalie suspected.

Bella tried to move the broken arm so Rosalie very gently pushed it down with her hand to tell Bella to stop. "I know it's confusing but you need to stay still. You don't need to injure yourself more."

Bella tried to open her eye again. She settled on Rosalie's face for a moment before closing it. "Stay."

"Of course." Rosalie acknowledged, doing her own visual check of the monitor stats to make sure Bella was doing okay. "We are all here. We are not going anywhere."

The arm with the burn came up eventually and Bella tried to pull at the feeding tube. She winced in pain as she bent her elbow, clearing irritating the burn.

"Bella, stop." Rosalie spoke firmly but gently as she brought Bella's hand back down.

Bella was disoriented but Rosalie was certain that would wear off as time passed.

Carlisle came into the room slowly after some time had passed, but he made sure to stay back towards the wall in case Bella did grow aware of his presence and get anxious.

"She wasn't like this when we last saw her." Rosalie murmured quietly. "Not this bad. We wouldn't have missed this. Surely?"

Carlisle shook his head. "A lot of the injuries are fresh, especially over her face and head. There are a lot on her torso, legs, and back that have been there longer but these would have been hidden easily by her clothes. This is weeks, if not months, of abuse however."

Rosalie felt sick. Bella had been suffering for weeks and they hadn't helped her. They hadn't been in Forks long, but long enough to have stopped it.

Carlisle moved to one of the monitors to silence an alarm. "We need to wait for an exam, with her consent of course, to fully assess the injuries she has. The fear of men is a recent development which makes me think a lot of the abuse has happened over the weekend."

"Okay." Rosalie breathed out shakily. Bella would need so much support. It had seemed so much had happened over the weekend, and Rosalie worried Bella had given up.

"If this is too much for-" Carlisle began but Rosalie silenced him with a shake of her head.

"I'm fine. I need to be here for her. She will need us if she's going to get through this. Edward will need you guys to support him whilst we work with her. This is going to be such a long road. Have you heard from her mother?"

Carlisle shook his head. "The police have Bella's phone and I'm assuming they have contacted her. It's going to take her a bit of time to get to here from Phoenix, or wherever they are at the moment. I've heard her husband travels a lot."

Bella groaned, drawing Rosalie's attention to her. She was trying to reach for her face again so Rosalie took her hand in hers. "Hey, Bella. It's okay."

Bella squeezed Rosalie's hand just subtly, but her body seemed to relax.

"Now we just sit and wait?" Rosalie asked Carlisle.

He nodded, moving towards the door. "We need to give her time to come around. The police will want to speak to her, and CPS, when she's up to that. The burns team is coming down to see her shortly and then we will sort out the fractures. Hopefully we will get an update on Bella's mother soon."

"Alright, I'm going to stay with her, unless someone tells me to leave." Rosalie worried about how Bella would be when she fully woke up. She would need someone with her, especially when talking to the police and CPS, and during the full body exam.

Bella remained in and out of consciousness, occasionally opening her eye or trying to move her arms. Rosalie couldn't tell if she knew she was there or not.

The door of the room clicked open after some time and Esme came in quietly. "Rose?" She questioned as she pulled up a chair next to her.

Rosalie nodded, knowing that Esme was checking that she was okay. "I'm alright, it's okay. I just don't want her to be alone."

"I know." Esme whispered, looking over Bella's body carefully. This was the first time Esme had seen her since it happened and her eyes saddened at the visible injuries.

"Is everyone else okay?" Rosalie asked her.

Esme shook her head. "Jasper and Emmett have left; the hospital environment is too much for them. They've gone hunting to clear their heads. Alice has gone to the local mall to see if she can get some stuff for Bella, as the stuff in her backpack isn't going to be enough. She's going to be here for a while. She's also going to check out some Airbnb's so we have a place to stay in Seattle. Edward is having a walk around the hospital grounds. He won't leave, but he knows she will be reluctant to have him near her. Still, he's staying within a distance he can get to her in case she needs him. Carlisle will go and find him once he chases up what's going on with Bella."

Rosalie hoped her mate was okay. Emmett was fond of Bella, and he was starting to see her as his little sister. He had been so cheery, always the goofball of the family trying to make everyone laugh. He was devastated by this, and probably frustrated that he couldn't get his hands on Charlie.

They all were.

"How is she doing?" Esme asked quietly. She looked like she wanted to reach out and touch Bella but was too scared to.

"It's alright," Rosalie told her, taking Esme's hand and placing it on top of Bella's. "She's been in and out of consciousness and I don't think she really knows what's going on. I just don't want her to be alone when she comes round a bit more."

Rosalie and Esme sat in silence together for a little while, before the monitors started blaring and Rosalie stood to her feet.

"Her sats are plummeting." Rosalie whispered, moving to Bella's head and pulling the bed down so it was lying flat. She put her index finger under her chin and tilted her head back gently, trying to open the airway. "Bella, breathe. Come on, sweetheart."'

Esme had opened the door, signaling for help. Carlisle must have not been far away because within seconds he was hurrying through the door.

He moved to Rosalie, setting up an oxygen mask from the wall behind the bed. He took over from Rosalie's grasp and gently applied the mask over Bella's nose and mouth.

Bella squirmed and tried to resist at first but soon settled and allowed Carlisle to help.

Carlisle stood there for a few moments as he watched the monitors. He moved when he was satisfied Bella's oxygen levels were rising.

"Carlisle?" Rosalie questioned, gently taking Bella's hand again.

Carlisle shook his head. "Her body is very weak right now. With the malnutrition and low body weight, I think it's struggling to cope with all the injuries. She's also severely anemic which is preventing enough oxygen getting to the red blood cells."

"Of course." Rosalie nodded. She was grateful in that moment that she had gone to medical school to know what Carlisle was saying.

"Can you keep an eye on her stats?" He asked her. "The doctors are just down the hall if you need them. I need to go to Edward. He's finding it really hard at the moment."

Rosalie simply nodded as Carlisle left the room.
