Chapter Twenty-Seven: A World Without Magic

"What do you mean, Master Croaker took her?" Dumbledore stood before the board of examiners with his arms crossed over his chest. "Why did he interfere with her testing?"

"We were finished testing her by the time he interfered. We were just asking her questions at this point as we were impressed with her." spoke up one of the examiners.

"You were finished, yet Master Croaker felt the need to whisk her away, what were you asking her?" Dumbledore narrowed his eyes at all of them.

"We were simply trying to see where her knowledge ended, she is nothing like anyone we ever encountered before. She used her knowledge to answer Master difficulty questions like no one we ever seen before."

Dumbledore groaned. "You presented her a challenge, she shouldn't have been able to answer, and she exceeded your expectations, is that it?"

"Yes, and Master Croaker interfered because he wants her as his apprentice–"

"Yes, I know. She has several Masters lining up and bidding for her to be their apprentice at Hogwarts. Which is where she belongs. Now, where did he take her?"

"He took her to his office, Albus." someone came up behind them and spoke up. "If Master Croaker hadn't stolen her from the Atrium, I was planning to do the same after the examiners were done speaking with her."

Dumbledore turned to face the man who spoke behind them, he too was wearing Unspeakable robes. "How many Unspeakables were present for her Practical Exam?"

"Only three of us, besides Master Croaker. But, there were several people from various other departments that came flooding in once they heard the rumors of Miss Prince's prowess."

Dumbledore sighed. "Great," he turned to glare at the examiners. "did you allow any reporters to sneak in as well?"

"Now see here, we didn't allow anyone to come in here!" Scoffed one of the Examiners.

"Even so, if the testing had occurred in the Auror Training Center, this would not have happened, would it?" Dumbledore's eyes narrowed at them.

"That wasn't our fault, there was an incident we had no control over. We were barred from entering the training center, Albus." The examiner gripped their hand over their heart.

"I'm sure that the incident wasn't orchestrated so there would be many witnesses during Miss Prince's Exam." The unspeakable stopped rolling his eyes when Dumbledore turned to glare at him. "We will investigate this, Albus."

"Be sure that you do, now where is Master Croaker's office?" Dumbledore asked as he pivoted his whole body to face the unspeakable, resigning to no longer wanting to argue with the examiners and wanting to grab his charge away from the Ministry before any more incidents could occur.

"He works in the Time division in the Department of Mysteries, do you need me to lead you–"

Dumble waved his thanks as he walked past the unspeakable and headed towards the Elevators.

Arriving at the Department of Mysteries many months after her wild adventure with Harry Potter was something completely different. It looked less intimidating as Master Croaker led her through the halls. It wasn't a tour, Master Croaker didn't bother to discuss what each room was but he was watching Victoria's face as it lit up in awe with each room they entered acting like it was her first time seeing it.

When they finally arrived at the Time Room, a room she remembered seeing hundreds of Time Turners dangling from their chains over four rows of glass counters that stored all kinds of clocks, wrist watches and pocket watches on their shelves. She winced remembering when they ran through this room, many if not all the Time Turners ended up being smashed up. All of which were now laid across the counters, with smashed hour glasses, the sand that used to be held in the hour glasses now contained in tiny glass bottles, separated by the various shades of gold, pink and black sand.

"You were doing so well, until we arrived to the Time Division, Miss Prince." Master Croaker chuckled as he cast a silent Muffliato so no one could overhear them speaking. "You clearly appeared as if you have never been here before. It was a marvel to see your face light up when you explored each room with your eyes."

"It's my fault, I was chased through this room and–"

"No, Miss Prince, this is not your fault." Master Croaker said softly as he walked over to her. "If you hadn't been in the Department of Mysteries that night, I'm afraid Mr Potter wouldn't be alive today." Master Croaker placed hands on her shoulders, squeezing them in comfort. "You simply can't allow this guilt to cripple you." He leaned down so his eyes were level with hers. "I know you have been occluding, but it doesn't solve all your problems." When she tried to turn away, he held her firmly, keeping eye contact. "You can't occlude all your emotions away. Your father tried to do that in his youth and it nearly got him killed." Master Croaker paused as he saw tears sliding down her cheeks. He wipped them away with his thumbs. "Victoria, You need to feel your emotions or at times like these, they will crush you and that information you have been trying to hide from everyone will be obtained by the one you most fear, we can't have that, can we?"

"I don't understand, why do you care–" Tears were streaming down her face and he just pulled her close and wrapped his arms around her, allowing her to sob into his robes. He patted the back of her head and allowed his fingers to stream through her hair.

"Shhh…I'm here for you. I will always be here for you." Master Croaker said as he stood up straight, wiping more tears from her eyes and led them to the back of the Time Room, opening the door on the large Grandfather Clock and holding the door open for her. "This is my office, we can speak freely here."

The Camp was like nothing Severus had ever seen before. When they drove to the gates, there were two armed guards at the entrance wearing tan suits with their names printed on their uniforms: Badger and Mole. Hawk gave them his ID and bypassed the security easily by telling them Severus was with him and he needed to go to Ollivanders. It was strange, there were hundreds of buildings that looked like containers that belonged on trucks inside the compound and at the very center was an outdoor market.

They drove straight into the Market and stopped in front of what looked like an antique dealer with ancient artifacts, jewelry and furniture that should be in a museum.

"Here's Ollivanders, he's adjusted to camp life." Hawk stated as he parked the Jeep.

Severus unbuckled his seatbelt and exited the vehicle.

"I'll be right back, Mister Snape. I have to check in with the Chief." Hawk said as he pulled out of his parking spot. "Ollivander should be out soon."

"I appreciate your assistance, Hawk." Severus spoke honestly before Hawk drove off.

Snape stood inside the market stall, examining all the things that were in the shop, when he picked up one of the rare gems to examine a voice speaking from behind him. "It's been a long time since I've seen another Wizard," spoke Ollivander as he looked Snape up and down. "I never imagined it would be you, to find me, Severus Snape."

"You are not the Ollivander I've known." Snape replied softly.

"No, that is my brother, Garrick. He continued the legacy and became a wandmaker, I on the other hand wanted to expand my knowledge on the lost magicks." Ollivander laughed softly. "Then I somehow ended up in a land without magic…and it seems you have found your way here as well."

"What do you mean a land without it? I feel it in my bones. There is magic here." Severus said as he turned to face the old man who looked well adjusted to camp life. His attire looked like a combination of indigenous and wizard robes: made of tan leather with turquoise painted patterns with the same strange runes that were on the wand.

"Ah…yes, that is because Sedona is a vortex, Severus. All the old magic from this world had intermingled with our world's magic…I'm unsure why." His eyes were fogged with white clouds.

"We are in a different world?" Severus walked over to the chair and sat down in a heap.

"Yes, that is the conclusion I came to when I tried to go to New York in search of MUSCA and it wasn't there, Severus." Ollivander offered him tea as he sat in the chair across from him.

"And you have been here for two decades and haven't found a way to return?" Severus gripped the bridge of his nose, ignoring the tea Ollivander handed out to him. I need to go back to Hogwarts. Victoria needs me. This can't be happening. He could feel his heart tightening in his chest.

"Not until you came here, Severus. You brought a piece of our world with you. It's an anchor I never had before you arrived." Ollivander said as he tapped on Snape's arm. "Take some tea, we will figure out how to get you home in no time."

"What do you mean get me home?" Severus said as he grabbed the plate of tea offered to him, taking a sip he sighed. "Don't you want to get home as well?"

"I'm not sure if I'd be able to survive the trip, Severus. I'm not a young man anymore. 20 years have gone by, and I am resigned to staying here for the rest of my life." Ollivander said as he took a sip of his own tea. "Besides, I have a life here. I wouldn't have it any other way."

Severus stared at his tea, "You met someone and you don't want to leave them?"

"That's right, Severus." Ollivander smiled as he took a sip of his tea. "So why don't you show me that wand that brought you here."

"How do you know it was a wand?" Severus asked as he pulled out the wand in question and placed it into Ollivander's outstretched hand.

Ollivander examined it closely; it looked like a twisted piece of dark wood with runes etched into the fibers. "I couldn't manage to send myself back to our world. But I did manage to send a wand that I made here. I studied the archway where we arrived, and used wood from the tree that used to stand behind it."

"If the wand is from this world, what anchor did I bring from our world, Ollivander?"

"Your wand Severus. You have that don't you?" Ollivander smiled when Snape flicked his own wand into his wrist. "Your wand is what we will be using to get you back."

"Do you know how to get me back?" Severus could feel the world collapsing around him as he was terrified he would never be able to return home.

"In theory. May take some time to figure out how it actually works, Severus. But I'm sure with our combined efforts we should be able to figure it out." Ollivander laughed softly as he saw the sour look on Severus face. "Severus, I know this is new territory for you but cheer up. At least your not alone in this world. 20 years without a lick of hope, and now here you are."

"But now you don't want to leave." Severus groaned.

"Do you feel that hinders your way of escape, because I don't want to go?" Ollivander asked thoughtfully.

"I can't stay here 20 years, Ollivander. I have a daughter that needs me back home." Severus could feel his chest tighten the more he thought about never being able to see Victoria again. I can't allow her to be alone with that devil I know. He's been trying to steal her from me the moment he found out she existed.

Author's Note: Getting back into the groove of things. Leave a review in the little box. To the ANON reviewer who simply called Snape a bigot and insulted me for loving my favorite male character: you wouldn't know a terrorist if you saw them on street. There are two sides of every story, in one point of view they are a terrorist, on the other side they are a freedom fighter. There is no good and evil, that only exists in stories and fairy tales.
