Chapter 9 Sprig VS the Darkside
(vision)
Anne was in a black void. She tried swimming through it, but there was no end in sight. She tried to call out to anyone or anything, with no response. Then, there was a voice. It was a dark voice, a demanding voice, but the voice somehow calmed her.
''We are here for you, child,'' the voice was like a warm, soft bed, like she had in the Jedi Temple. Maybe if she listened, she would be fine. It was so easy to listen to the voice."
''Open. Give us the Box Holocron. It will save you and unite you with your friends.'' Anne just nodded at the voice. It sounded so easy, and, well, maybe she should. It would unite her friends and send her home finally."
Suddenly Anne could hear Master Tné.
''No!'' The void around her disappeared as she found herself in the swamps of Amphibia, with Master Tné in front of her. Anne snapped out of her daze. Did she almost open the box? What did she do? Wait, what is going on? Where am I?"
''I want to replace Hop Pop and run the farm my way. Mmmaster?'' She asked, confused. Anne was lifted off by Master Tné with the force. He spoke only these words.
''Trust only in the force Anne.''
Anne had so many questions but was dropped in the mud as she fell through the world seeing flashes of events in the past, present and future.
A ship that looks like a new model of Republic warship crash-landing. Sasha in dark robes. Marcy in the shadow of two giants. Her homeworld blocked by Republic vessels? And Sprig, wearing nothing but his hat and strange underwear, standing over Hop Pop, covert in mud.
Before Anne could make sense of any of it she woke up.

It was a sunny day at the farm. Anne, Sprig, and Polly were busy plucking weeds from the vegetable fields, while Hop Pop relaxed, watching over the kids and taking a break from his work.
Sprig was exhausted from pulling up the weeds, with sweat pouring from his face. He looked up and saw the cowpillars grazing in front of him. This gave him an idea, and he ran towards Hop Pop.
''Hop Pop, Hop Pop! Great idea! What if we trained the cowapillars to eat these weeds? Then we wouldn't have t…..'' Before he could finish, Hop Pop interrupted him.
"Hup, bup bup. Suggestion barrel's over there.'' Hop Pop pointed at a barrel in the distance, a barrel surrounded by flies and spores of fungus on it.
Sprig ran towards the barrel using his tongue to eat the nearby flies. He began to write down his suggestion.
''Suggestion 89.''
Anne comes over holding Polly in her arms. She saw Polly and Sprig write down many suggestions over these past weeks she was here but she never saw any of the suggestions used.
''Hey, think he actually reads these?''
''Doubt it. I suggested a swimming pool months ago and that never happened.'' Polly said disappointed that her swimming never became a thing.
''Oh, come on, guys. Have a little more faith in Hop Pop.'' Sprig inserts his suggestion into the barrel only for his hand to get stuck.''Oop, Hands stuck''. Sprig tries to get his hands unstuck only to topple the barrel revealing a burning pit.''What the.''
''Huh? A fire pit? That's the opposite of a swimming pool!'' Polly says.
Sprig cries out in outrage.
''Why, Hop Pop?! Wh-h-h-h-h-hy?!''
Hop Pop hopped off his chair.
''Because your suggestions were ridiculous! You can't just dig swimming pools anywhere. It attracts pests. Running a farm ain't easy, kids.''
Sprig was fed up with Hop Pop, he always looked down on him, never listened to him, never took him serious. Something deep within him told him that he could do better, that he was right and that Hop Pop was wrong. Something within him wanted to lash out. Sprig brought up these dark feelings, it somehow gave him power.
''Maybe. But if I were in charge, I'd listen to other people's suggestions, not burn them!'' A large flame came out of the fire pit behind him, Sprig having no reaction to it.
Hop Pop came closer to Sprig, meeting him face to face.
'' You? Run the farm? Ha! Run it into the ground, maybe.'' Hop Pop enlarges his vocal sac at Sprig's face, knocking Sprig a bit back.
Sprig had had enough. He palmed his hand, tapping into this power as he enlarged his vocal sac, letting out a loud croak that knocked Hop Pop back. Hop Pop almost lost his balance and fell to the ground, but he managed to steady himself just in time. Polly gasped, understanding the implications of all this boasting.
''Is that an official challenge?''
Sprig sprints past Hop Pop as he climbs the pole with a clock bell. He rings the bell as he makes a weird yell. He jumps back to the group.
''Sprig Plantar, you have rung the Plantar Family Challenge bell! What is your challenge?''
''I want to replace Hop Pop and run the farm my way!'' They all look at Hop Pop as they wait for his answer.
''I formally accept this challenge,'' he said confidently, ready to face Sprig once again. He knew Sprig wasn't prepared to take over the farm. His idea would bring ruin and endanger them all. Even if Sprig didn't like it, he did it to protect him. He had a duty to keep them safe, ever since... that day when their parents died. That horrible day.
Anne was confused. She didn't know what was going on at all. Suddenly, she felt a chilling coldness. As she looked at Sprig and Hop Pop in the midst of their standoff, she noticed a cracked vase near Sprig. Could it be? No, that wasn't possible. Sprig couldn't have cracked it with the... Or could he? Focusing on the source of the cold made her feel sick, but it was definitely radiating from Sprig.
Anne had a really bad feeling about this.

Some time later in the swamp Anne still had no idea what was going on.
''Can someone explain to me what is going on!''
''The Plantar Family Challenge.'' Hop Pop said. Sprig continued.
''An artful test of skill where the winner takes all!''
Polly summarized it for Anne.
''They push each other until someone falls off a lily pad. It's dumb, but fun to watch.''
''Has Sprig ever won?'' Anne asked, still feeling worried about the feeling she felt earlier.
Sprig was getting ready, attempting to mimic the fighting stance he had seen Anne use during her training sessions. He couldn't afford to goof around; he was determined to teach Hop Pop a lesson. As he tried to imitate Anne's combat stance, he struggled and lost his balance. Sprig almost fell off the lily pad, but he quickly centered himself just in time to see Hop Pop laughing at his clumsiness.
"Give in to your hatred, use your aggressive feelings, beat the old man, give in, do it."
Instead of trying to mimic Anne's combat stance again, Sprig shifted into a more feral stance, ready to pounce and attack.
''Enough chit chat. Let the challenge'' Polly jumped up hitting her tail against the bell. ''BEGIN!''
Both Sprig and Hop Pop charged towards each other, both yelling before making contact. Somehow, Sprig managed to push Hop Pop back, forcing him to the ground. This was something that had never happened before. Hop Pop was surprised by Sprig's newfound strength. Something felt off about Sprig as Hop Pop looked into his eyes.
Anne once again felt the cold presence of the dark side radiating from Sprig. She stood up but was frozen with uncertainty. She had no idea what to do, unsure of how the Masters would handle this situation. She didn't know if she should or could intervene, and even if she did, would it make a difference? All she could do was watch.
Sprig charged at Hop Pop but Hop Pop just outreached his leg making Sprig fall over. Having the upper hand yet again Hop Pop sprang on Sprig, pushing him near the end of the lily pad.
''Give it up, boy! I've got the experience and the upper body strength.'' Hop Pop was about to win again like he always does.
Give in to hate.
''Oh, yeah? Well, I've got the moral high ground!'' Sprig pushed Hop Pop, but this wasn't a normal push. No, a normal push wouldn't send someone flying into the air and landing meters away from the lily pad. Sprig tapped into his power, using the Force out of anger, determined to finally win and show Hop Pop that he wasn't just some kid anymore. Hop Pop yelled as he landed a few meters away from the lily pad, face-first into the mud.
Polly looked in amazement at Sprig, Anne looked at Sprig with worry in her eyes. Even Sprig was surprised that he won.
''I won?'' Sprig jumped up, his arms stretching out. ''I don't believe it. I'm head of the farm! Anne, Anne aren't you excited for me?''
Anne had a worried look on her face still feeling cold only when Sprig said her name again did she snap out of it. What did she have to say? Did she need to stop Sprig? But he looks so happy now, she can't feel any darkside right now? Maybe it was just a slip and Hop Pop was being rude so maybe just a little use of the dark side wouldn't hurt, besides Sprig never showed so much force use ever!
''Ya, ya dude your the head now!'' Polly, Sprig and Anne all walked back towards the farm not even noticing Hop Pop walking away from everyone

Half a day went by, and a bunch of things changed under Sprig's new management. There was a new flag that read "A Farm that Listens," new farming methods, a swimming pool with a slide, and even a dance party (with a clown Polly almost murdered). Things were actually looking quite great under Sprig's leadership, though Hop Pop was still missing, which got Anne a bit worried.
It wasn't until later that day when dinner came that they all realized there was no food. Sprig tried to get fresh food from the farm, only to be attacked by local pests.
The next day, Anne and Polly realized that running a farm wasn't easy, and they needed Hop Pop back. Anne woke up to find the farm in ruins. Multiple bugs were drinking from the swimming pool, walls were damaged, and the cowpillars were running wild on the farm.
Sprig organized a meeting to see if they could solve the problem.
''I've called this meeting today for obvious reasons.''
''The farm is ruined.'' Anne called out
''We have no food and we'll die!'' Polly pointed it out.
''Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Luckily for us, we have the power of great suggestions and management that listens.'' Sprig was writing in big letters the word, Suggestions, on chalkboard.'' So have at it, guys. What should we do? Remember, there are no bad suggestions. ''
Even though Anne knew that Sprig fought hard for this position she knew that Hop Pop is a better leader. Hop Pop could be pain in the ass but he was much older and held wisdom just like the masters back home. Seeing the farm now there is a reason why he was in charge.
''Let's find Hop Pop and put him back in charge.'' Both Anne and Polly said.
Sprig stopped drawing with the chalk stick snapping and crack suddenly going through the chalkboard. That cold feeling Anne felt when Sprig and Hop Pop fought is back again.. that awful feeling.
''We don't need that Tyrant.'' Sprig said with a cold angered voice.
This made Polly jump back a bit. A sudden burst of fear came over her.
''He did know how to run a farm. He might not listen sometimes but just like the master back home they knew what they were doing.''
''Well if those masters know so much they would have rescued you by now!''
Anne just froze, feeling anger building up inside of her. How dare he, how dare he!
Use your anger, reach out, show him who he is messing with, show him WHAT TRUE JEDI POWER IS LIKE, and then open me." Those words kept repeating in Anne's head. She was about to reach out, only to be calmed by the memory of her master.
She was struggling to lift a simple rock. Everyone around her, except for Marcy, had already lifted their rocks with the Force. She felt the other students mocking her. She wanted to scream and shout, but then she felt Master Tné's hand on her shoulder.
''Keep calm Anne. Keep focusing and keep your balance. Take all the time you need. This isn't a race.''
''But it won't float master I am trying everything.''
''Do or do not. There is no try.''
''What? How does that make any sense? How can I do something if I don't try to do it?''
''To try something is to accept the possibility of failure. If all you do is try then you don't truly believe that you can succeed. So you will lift this rock. It might take hours, days or even years but I will be here next to you.'' He gave Anne a smile. And it took Anne almost a day but she did learn patience and keeping her mind calm.
Sprig continued his rant.
'I will not go back to that life! Don't you like being listened to?!'' He pointed at Polly and Anne as he went closer.
''I don't exactly feel listened to right now.'' Anne responded.
''Ditto. You're kinda freakin' me out, bro.'' Polly said.
Sprig was about to go into a burst of anger again as he started to hyperventilate. He just cooled off a bit as he moved back to the chalkboard.
''Let's take 15 minutes and start this meeting over. And next time, bring a good suggestion.'' Sprig walked away. With Anne and Polly sneaking off soon after trying to find Hop Pop.

It took a few hours but Anne and Polly finally managed to find Hop Pop and a cemetery..surrounded by beetles?
''Hop Pop, Hop Pop!'' Anne shouted.''we've been looking all over for you.''
''Hello, girls. You here to help us scavenge? It's gonna be a long, cold winter. More bodies means more warmth for everyone.'' Hop Pop opens his arms as he allows a bunch of beetles to cuddle up with him with a blue one sitting on top of his head.
''Uh, no. Sprig is ruining the farm. You've gotta come back.'' Anne said hoping Hop Pop would jump up at this opportunity to re-claim his farm.
Polly just went to complain about the food problem.
''We've been eating nothing but raw potatoes. I'm having digestive strife, Hop Pop. DIGESTIVE! STRIFE!''
Hop Pop sighed.
''Give me a minute, boys.'' The beetles disperse as Hop Pop stood up.''I've grown since the last time you saw me. How long's it been now?''
''A day and a half.'' Polly said not wanting to deal with Hop Pop crap.
''I've got me a new life among the beetles. They've taught me about community, equality, listening.'' Hop Pop closed his eyes at peace.
Anne really felt that Hop Pop was at peace and happy but they needed him back. And there was only one thing that could get him back now.
''Sprig sleeps in your bed now.''
All the peace Hop Pop felt was gone in a instant as he opened his eyes in shock/
''HE WHAT ?!''

Hop Pop returned with Anne and Polly. Seeing his farm destroyed filled him with determination to reclaim it and keep his kids safe once more. When Sprig defeated him, he had thought that perhaps they were ready to be on their own, prepared to protect themselves and ensure that what happened to their parents never happened to them. However, seeing the farm in ruins and feeling Sprig's uncontrollable anger, he knew he had been sadly mistaken.
Sprig called Anne and Polly traitors but before Sprig could do anything else Hop Pop requested a rematch. Winner takes the farm forever. Sorig off course accepted.
So there they were again. The same lily pads Sprig finally won against Hop Pop.
''I beat you once, I can do it again. I'll prove my way is right.'' Sprig proclaimed.
''We'll see.'' Hop Pop responded.
And the fight started again. Both Sprig and Hop Pop ran at each other. Both using their tongue to hit each other both falling down and creating a big mud explosion.
Hop Pop was the first to stand up.
''The girls told me everything, Sprig.''
''What? ugh'' Sprig tried getting up only to be hit by Hop Pop tongue again.
Hop Pop tried to reason with Sprig.
''You're destroying the farm. Don't you see? Even if you win, you lose.''
The anger that had given Sprig power before returned. All he had to do was tap into it again to win. Sprig kicked Hop Pop in the face, sending him flying, and he almost fell off the lily pad.
''So I'm just supposed to go back to the way things were? You never listened to us.'' Suddenly Hop Pop was behind Sprig trying to restrain him.
''And I was wrong. I know now that you can't work together unless everyone has a say. Jeremy taught me that.''
Sprig flipped Hop Pop over him as the two locked in a wrestle. However, Hop Pop's words had an impact on Sprig. He had to be fair with himself; most of his ideas were bad, and lashing out in anger wasn't like him, right?
"Don't listen to him. You were perfect. Push him off and reclaim what is rightfully yours!" The voice kept nagging Sprig to defeat Hop Pop, to hurt him. But Sprig didn't want to hurt anyone; he just wanted to be listened to as well. He looked right at Hop Pop.
''You... You mean it? I have to admit, most of my ideas were pretty terrible. I think we even caused permanent damage to the ecosystem.''
''Yeah, but some of your ideas could work. We'll never know unless we try. I promise from now on to actually read your suggestions.'' Anne and Polly gasped and Sprig felt that Hop Pop was being sincere.
HE WILL BETRAY YOUR TRUST HURT HIM FINISH HIM
''Promise?''
''Promise.''
And the voice was gone as Sprig let go and fell into the mud letting Hop Pop win.

Hop Pop kept his promise to Sprig, implementing a few of his suggestions, providing shade for them when they farmed, and keeping a small swimming pool for Polly. The darkness Anne had felt in Sprig was gone for now. However, Anne felt ashamed. She hadn't done anything. She had just frozen and gone along for the ride. She believed she could have stopped Sprig or maybe taught him better. She blamed herself. One night, Anne was awakened by Sprig.
'Sprig? Dude its like 3 am why are you up so late?''
''Anne can I talk to you about something?''
''Sure dude whats up?''
''Well, when I fought Hop Pop some days ago during that entire leading the farm debacle, I felt... well, power. Something deep promised me power if I gave in to it more and more. When I was angry, I felt more and more of this power, but it... changed me. It felt like I wasn't myself anymore. What's wrong with me?'' Sprig broke down in tears. Anne tried to comfort her friend.
''It's something we all face,'' the master says back home. "The darkside.''
''The darkside?'' Sprig questioned.
''Yes, it's... weird. I can't really explain it well, like the master can back home. It just changes you, dude, if you...''
dude if you.''
''Can you teach me how to resist it?'' Sprig said with pleading eyes.
''Of course dude I am your teacher after all.'' Anne gave a soft smile as they embraced.

Sasha opened her eyes; everything hurt. She tried to stand, only to be stopped by a harness around her. "Where am I?" She tried to look around, but her vision was too blurred. She clumsily pressed the release button, and the harness let go, causing her to fall to the ground. She attempted to stand again, but this time, she was stopped by a sharp pain in her left knee.
Looking down at her knee, she saw metal piercing it. With difficulty, she pulled it out. The wound looked ugly, like it had been in there for quite some time. She tried to look around. She was in an escape pod? She didn't remember entering one. What had happened to her cruiser?
Sasha slowly started to remember what had happened. Their cruiser had been hit, they went in for a crash landing, and she had been injured. She went with a few troops into an escape pod and crashed here. She looked up, trying to focus. With her blurred vision, she saw two stormtroopers and an officer. They were dead.
She realized that these were the same troopers who had fought with her on Illum. Sadness quickly turned into rage. She vowed to find whoever had shot them down and make them pay. She crawled her way towards the exit, her Inquisitor armor ruined, her body scarred and hurt from the crash. She struggled to crawl out of the escape pod, only to fall face-first into the dirt.
She tried to stand one more time but she collapsed. Her bones were broken and she needed to close her eyes, just a little rest…
In the distance multiple individuals were getting closer and closer.
Sasha was back on Coruscant, in the Jedi Temple turned Imperial palace. She found herself trapped in a cage, hurt, scared, and alone. It had been a week since she had survived the Order, evaded the clones, but was captured soon after. She had been presented with a choice: die here or join the new Empire. In truth, there was really only one choice.
In the distance footsteps came closer, a skinny human male walked into the room, High Inquisitor Jen.
''Ah it looks like you still live. Impressive a week without food or water.''
''I..I will kill you.'' Her voice was weak.
''Ah, that fiery spirit, still good. But remember what happened last time.'' Jen pointed at a deep scar on the side of her stomach, a result of a blaster shot from a clone trooper. ''I sense so much darkness in you. Good. Give in to that hate. Let it focus you.'' The High Inquisitor threw Sasha's old Jedi lightsaber into the prison cell and opened the doors with the Force.
Sasha looked confused but immediately picked up the weapon and ignited it as she rushed towards Jen ready to cut him down.
Jen easily side steps her as he mocks her.
Jen easily side steps her as he mocks her.
''You have no form,'' she tried to hit him again. ''No focus.'' She attempted once more. ''You fight like a Jedi, fight like a warrior.'' She cried out a battle cry as she went for an overhead strike, only for Jen to sucker punch her in the stomach, causing her to drop the weapon and fall down.
''Weak like all of your order, pathetic just like your friends.''
These comments enraged Sasha. She rolled towards her saber, picked it up, and went for an uppercut on the Inquisitor, only for the blade to pass through Jen as if he were a shadow. Jen laughed.
''Good, good. It looks like there's at least potential. Now make sure next time that whatever you're fighting is truly there. Don't get blindsided.'' Jen's Force illusion disappeared and reappeared in the now-opened door. ''If you follow me, I will teach you how to use your emotions, make you stronger, and never weak again.''
A few months passed with hardships: starvation, torture, and pain became the new normal. Jen ensured that Sasha was taught not to trust anyone but herself, that only she had the power to save herself, and that the Jedi were all pathetic.
Sasha was training against multiple training droids. The droids swarmed her, striking from all sides. Sasha was unable to destroy them with her lightsaber. She screamed out in anger, and instead of trying to hit them with her lightsaber, she conjured a Force wave that destroyed the droids. Jen walked in moments later, clapping.
''Good, finally using a bit of your potential and your emotions.''
Sasha just looked at Jen, her blood boiling in anger. She threw her lightsaber right at him, but the lightsaber just went harmlessly through the illusion. "The coward is never here," she thought.
''Now that that is out of your system I have a test for you.''
''Will I be hunting jedi?''
''No no you're not ready for that yet. First go to the training room, there you will meet some fellow initiates.''
She did as Jen said and went to the training room, where she saw three other initiates: a Rodian male, still tethered with his robes destroyed; a Pantoran female with her Padawan braid still on; and a Zeltron male. Wait, was that Steve?
''Sasha?'' he said, recognizing her.
''Steve? How? You?''
He walked towards her leaving the others behind him.
''Long story, I was…Well it doesn't matter do you know why we were called her?''
''Your guess is as good as mine.''
Suddenly Jen appeared from the shadows as he welcomed everyone.
''Ah, welcome, welcome. You are all wondering why you were brought here? Well, I have a little test for you all. This test will ensure you're truly ready. You will be divided into teams of two.'' He looked at Steve and Sasha. ''It seems like you already have met your teammate. Good. Your objective is simple: capture the flag.'' He pointed at the training room where the flag was in an elevated position, and before them was an obstacle course.
The two other initiates looked at each other and raced off. Sasha and Steve soon followed, moving through the obstacle course together and helping each other out when needed. They were closing in on the flag, but something felt off. They hadn't seen the other initiates. Suddenly, a flash of blue light emerged from the shadows. Steve reacted quickly, pushing Sasha away from a deadly blow.
Sasha ignited her blue lightsaber, and so did Steve. Sasha was immediately attacked by the Rodian, and she barely managed to parry the purple lightsaber strikes. The Rodian continued with another flurry of attacks. Steve, seeing that Sasha was in trouble, disengaged from the Pantoran and rushed to help Sasha. Now back to back, they managed to fend off the other two initiates, but the attackers just kept coming.
''We need to end this soon I don't think we can hold out for much longer!'' Steve said.
''I agree,'' Sasha answered. She looked around carefully, spotting the flag nearby. She could easily jump up and grab it if it wasn't for the other two. If only. She had an idea. Jen had only said to get the flag, not that her teammate needed to get it as well.
''Okay, Sasha, if we time this right, we might be able to... Sasha?'' Steve looked around, seeing that Sasha had disappeared. He was all alone. The two other initiates took the opportunity to strike, and Steve barely managed to fend off their first attack.
Sasha jumped up the platform, hearing Steve's screams as he was likely hit, maybe even killed. She froze for a few seconds. Did she really want this? She had just left her friend alone. He had died because of her!
Then she remembered what she had learned all these months: Don't trust anyone, just yourself. The Jedi were weak, and he was weak. Steve was an idiot for thinking he could trust her.
Or is this just what she tells herself to justify it.
Sasha grabbed the flag, winning the game. She never saw Steve's body. Jen scolded the other two initiates, choking one with the Force and accusing them of being blinded by bloodlust, causing them to miss Sasha. Purge Troopers took the other initiates away. They screamed and pleaded, but it didn't help.
''You did a good job Sasha. Using your 'friend' as a distraction was very clever.''
''I did..what I had to do.''
''You sure did that reminds me.'' Jen stepped back into the shadow as Sasha heard a door open behind her.'' Someone wants to meet you to make sure your truly ready.''
Sasha turned around, igniting her lightsaber, ready to face her opponent. A dark figure stepped into the room, sending a cold shiver down Sasha's spine. The last thing she remembered was the sound of breathing and a red blade striking her.
She woke up screaming, reaching for her right eye to check if the cybernetic eye was still there. It was. She also noticed a small army of toads surrounding her, some of them gasping for air and clutching their throats. Where was she? What had happened?
Behind one of the toads emerged their leader, a bulky toad with a blind eye, a deep scar, and wearing a cape.
"Interesting." The toad captain said.''Bring her to the tower.''
Sasha recognized that he had her lightsaber on him. She tried to reach out but she was still too weak. As she fell face first. The toads aimed their primitive weapons at her until they were sure she was out again. After that they brought her to the tower….
Well Sprig got his brush with the darkside and more of Sasha background. And yes the black figure who took Sasha eye was Darth Vader. Right now reading Rise of the Red blade aka the inquisitor book so taking some elements form that. Next chapter probably going to be original as I am going skip some episode but we shall see. Also damm anyone seen Andor and Jedi survivor and Ahsoka! Great time to be star wars fan! so cool. Well like and comment ect you know the stuff and see you later! Xylian out!
