Two: Not an Emergency

Warning!: Contains homophobia and racism

Their first day back, Leo was helping Judd clean the top of the rig. He heard the thump of a sound system approaching, Whip My Hair playing in the Captain's car when he pulled in front of the firehouse.

The music stopped and Owen stepped out, walking inside. His son, TK acknowledged that he seemed rather blissful that morning. "You seem happy. Did you get laid or something?"

Leo smirked and half listened to them until he heard Judd tease about putting in for a transfer. "Not happening, brother. Y'all leave Cap alone, the man is appreciating the finer aspects of good ole Texas. But, let's be real. I'm the one with the hair." He grinned, running his hand through his golden locks.

Judd nudged him with a bellowing laugh. "Whatever, little brother. We can't all be Leonardo Mikaelson."

Leo winked at him. "You got that right! I'm one of a kind, Ryder." They started wrestling, Leo being sure to not use his super strength and being careful not to let his brother get hurt. Grace would kill him. She was pretty good at whittling a stake.

He suppressed a shudder and raised his hands in surrender, the duo finishing their part of the chores.

Later on the emergency bell rang. An older woman called about a fire in the neighbors yard. Only when they arrived, the woman led the team out back and there was just a bit of smoke and it smelled too good to be an emergency.

"What do you think, septic?" TK asked Captain Strand. Judd took point and went to pull up the flap of dirt, exposing the meat being cooked.

"Septic never smelled so good." He spoke, echoing Leo's thought. "This right here is good old barbacoa."

"You cook mean in the dirt down here?" Cap asked him.

"Yes, we do, Mr Open Minded." He answered.

Leo could feel his mouth salivating. "And now, I'm hungry." He mumbled to himself. The neighbors back door slammed open and a man stepped out, yelling.

"What the hell is this? Who'd you call this time, huh?" He asked the old lady, obviously having been through this before.

"There he is! That's the crazy man that did this!"

"I'm not the crazy one, you twisted vieja! She might seem like a sweet old lady." He told the team. "But, she's really an evil racist!" He spat out.

"Who are you calling old?" She yelled back.

The man looked at her in disbelief, but smug that she had just proved his point. "Really? That's the part that offends you?"

The old lady sneered. "I'm not a racist. My gardener is Spanish!" She said, further proving him right. Leo shook his head. That's one thing he despised, among others. Racists, homophobes, the list goes on.

The call ended in a citizens arrest, even after the old lady faked having a heart attack. Leo was never happier to get away from someone who reminded him of his childhood. The world may never change when it came to people like that.

After the shift, Leo took a drive to the grocery store. Though he had blood bags that Klaus delivers to him twice a month, that he has stowed away in a hidden freezer, he had a craving for spaghetti.

As soon as he walked in the store, he almost collided into another body. A firm and muscular body at that. His eyes met the brown ones of Carlos, yet again.

Leo smirked. "Well, what do you know? Carlos Reyes as I live and breathe!"

Carlos rolled his eyes and chuckled. "Good seeing you too, Lee." He narrowed his eyes at him. "You've been avoiding me."

Leo shrugged. "Not necessarily avoiding, per say. Just, been dealing with things." It was a lame excuse, he knew, but their last encounter- no matter how amazing it was- he wasn't sure how to process the way he felt and still feels about that man.

Carlos, being the exceptional officer he was, saw right through him. "I'm not asking you to jump into bed with me again or anything. But we were friends before and I miss you, Lee."

He swallowed the lump in his throat, because no matter what how hard he wanted to deny it, he missed him too. He was just afraid that his feelings would never be reciprocated and he'd be heartbroken once again. "I know, and I'm sorry." He apologized. "I just- I'll call you soon. I just need to get a few things and head home to rest."

Carlos clenched his jaw, but nodded in acceptance. "Fine. I'll see you around, Leonardo." He bumped his shoulder into his and left, while Leo winced at the use of his name. Carlos had only ever called him Lee and it was strange hearing his first name slipping from his past potential lover's tongue.

He sighed deeply and watched as the man he had feelings for tore out of the parking lot until the car disappeared.

Leo was cooking the spaghetti, his mind replaying his run-in with Carlos. He almost wished he never slept with Carlos that night all those months ago. They were so close before that, almost inseparable.

When Leo had first moved to Austin, Carlos was the first friend he made outside of the 126. The story of how they met was a bit sad in all honesty. Carlos was off duty and Leo hadn't known he was a police officer at the time. They ran into each other at the farmers market in the middle of town.

Leo had witnessed a little boy trying to steal some fruit from one of the stands and was chased after by the seller. Leo chased them down and stopped the little boy, noticing how dirty and skinny he looked.

He kept a gentle hold on they boy and took fifty dollars out of his wallet, even though the kid had only stolen three dollars worth, and gave it to the man. He hated seeing someone in such horrible shape, especially a kid.

Carlos had observed the way he handled the situation and together they helped the kid get back to his mother and sisters. Leo had offered them a place to stay, but the mother had turned him down. But that didn't stop him from checking up on them every now and then and bringing them some food.

After that day, he and Carlos kept running into each other almost everywhere they went, as if an invisible string was tied between them. They got to talking and learned a lot about each, some things no one else knew.

Leo trusted Carlos with his secret of being a vampire and instead of running away, Carlos held his hand and told him all the good he seen in Leo. That was when he first developed strong feelings for the officer.

Months later, he planned on telling him how he felt, but he grew scared and suppressed the urge to pour out his heart and they wound up in Carlos's bed together.

Leo had left before he woke up and had barely spoken to him since. He didn't regret it, he just hoped Carlos didn't and would rather ignore the inevitable disappointment when Carlos would tell him he didn't feel anything for him.

In his mind, nobody could love Leonardo Mikaelson. Not romantically. He was a screw up and that's all he'd ever be.

A bit of a filler chapter, but we got to see a little interaction between the oc and Carlos a bit of their backstory.

What is a good ship name for Leonardo and Carlos? I was thinking Cleonardo, Lelos, or Carnado. *shrugs*
