-Prologue-
(Past time, Outside Gazelle Concert.)
It had been a long day already, not only that the concert over with it was already nighttime! Mammals of different shapes and sizes from as small as a rodent to as large as an elephant. What was noteworthy was these animals were walking on two legs, doing daily routines such as going to work, and having fun. Due to the concert having been done, the said mammals have already exited the premises and were already heading home, some prefer to drive home, take the train, or simply want to get some exercise in and walk home.
One of those mammals was a wolf. Though this wolf never entered the concert, to begin with, instead they just stood by a traffic pole leaning their back to it. Why? They simply never liked going into a big crowd, so they decided to just listen from afar. Who was this mammal? This wolf was never involved in the recently solved case by the first bunny cop and a fox. But he was still arrested for being a possible accomplice to the 'Nighthowler Case'. Just a simple security guard who needed to make some quick buck to feed himself, it was a job he could not refuse, especially when he really needed the money! So, he took it, and in the end, he still got in trouble…He may have been let go since he had no part in the case, but it still didn't stop anyone from giving the lupine a dirty look.
Gary…Gary Albus was the name…A former guard at the Cliffside Asylum, now looking for a job, who is still broke…He should really start to look more actively, not only that. Whenever he tried to apply for a job that didn't require a college education, he would get turned down. Not only that the relationship between Predator and Prey, but he was also recognized. Being on TV, not in a good way, can really do a number on your resume huh…
The lupine sighed as watched the few mammals who were in the concert, he was getting ready to leave as well, it was getting late after all. Assuming the last mammals had already stepped off the building, he looked at his watch, and…Yep; 9:34 P.m. He was getting ready to leave before he was stopped as he heard a familiar mammal calling him.
''Weird running into you here.''Gary turned around, and he was stared at the stranger before him. What astonished him was that it was the first bunny cop that approached him: Judy Hopps. Why would someone like her, would want to speak with him?
''Officer, I have not done anything wrong.''He immediately said, putting his paw up. He didn't want the rabbit to get suspicious of him, but the way he said it…It could do some work…With the way he just sounded, he may as well be suspicious because it was high pitched…
''I'm not saying you did anything wrong.''She explained, the wolf tilted his head.''I just wanted to know: Why are you still here?''
''Funny thing to ask.''The wolf frowned. The bunny shook her head.
''Sorry, after this whole event, I thought you left or something…''The rabbit admitted. The lupine sighed, she did have a point, it was already late, but the lupine didn't want to go back yet, especially not to that lonely building he lived in…Not only that he is broke, but he's leaving space is also not particular great.
The wolf looked away.''I'd rather not go back to my 'lonely' place yet, and the only place that I could afford with such a fixed income, not only that affording a place is hard, but finding a job is harder. Everyone views me as a part of the 'Savage Mammals' Scandal. That's not fun…To the point that…I wanted to give up.''The wolf replied, Judy looked down. She took a deep breath as she looked back at the mammal.
''Then prove them wrong.''The wolf looked at the rabbit again, and he noticed that she looked determined.''You can change their mind, change always starts with you. But that change, can only move when you do. So, try and change their mind to make Zootopia a better place for everyone.''And with that, the wolf watched the rabbit walk away…
The wolf began to pound the thought…The question was: How?
How can he make the change, if these…animals are not willing to look past the scandal that he was never associated to begin with…
(Present Time, Zootopia Police Department.)
''Albus…Albus!''He heard someone calling his name. He snapped out of his daze as he looked around him, he saw officers taking in a suspect, chatting, and having a cup of coffee! And he remembered, shaking his head, fully snapping out of his daze. He was an officer at precinct one, one of the rookies. That was proofed by the Blue ZPD T-shirt he was wearing.''Albus!''He turned to the source that was calling his name a third time.
It was Benjamin…He took a deep breath as he addressed the chubby cheetah that was worried for him.''Is something wrong, Ben?''The cheetah grabbed a donut from one of the boxes and took a bite out of the said donut.
''I should be asking you that! You just spaced out for a good 10 minutes, when I was done showing you the brand-new Gazelle app!''The wolf blinked. Was he really that out of it? Was he tired perhaps? It has been 1 month since he graduated from the academy, passing with flying colors, and ended up working for precinct one. After that talk with Officer Hopps, he decided to apply as an officer as he thought it was a step forward, You can imagine the stares he was receiving when he was doing his daily patrol during his first day as an officer. But he didn't care, what mattered was that he was trying to prove that himself. Even though, he may have been treated poorly during the academy. But at least he was out of there, and…Clawhauser began talking again…The white wolf just listened to what the feline had to say. He wanted to enjoy his cold cup of coffee…''So, about Gazelle…''
''Oh…Here we go…''He muttered, during his first day here, he was introduced to Clawhauser… The mascot of precinct one…And whenever he has a conversation with the feline, they would somehow transition into a Gazelle conversation. He could feel his ears bleeding due to the multiple incidents about this conversation.
''Another Day…''
Gary was listening to the cheetah, even though he really wasn't. He learned to keep a straight poker face. That way, other mammals would not think of him lowly. At the same time, he kept on looking at the clock. As he kept pretending to listen, he began to think of some other ways to step out of the conversation. But he didn't know how to do it…
Six months…Six months of hard training, not only going through hard environmental training, paw-to-paw combat training, and to name a few…That training has never prepared him for something like this. ''Please…Someone save me from this conversation before I have a breakdown. I don't want to hear anything about Gazelle right now...''
''Hey, Whiteface!''The lupine heard a familiar voice and he groaned. He turned to the familiar voice, and it was the red fox, Officer Nick Wilde. During his first month here, even though he may be silent and a little nervous around mammals. Nick was a different story, when he first met him in the precinct, he let the nickname slide, but as the day went by, he was slowly getting on his nerves.
''Wilde…And the name is Albus…Not whatever nickname that your mind can come up with! If you can't say it, then don't bother trying to talk to me!''The wolf growled in frustration, sure Wilde could get on his nerves, even though he was doing it for some harmless fun.
''Aww, but that name suits you perfectly fine!''The Vulpine insisted on the nickname, the wolf shook his head, he was already having a meltdown…not because of the cheetah mind you, it was Nick!
''No, it doesn't! How would you like if I called you, 'Red Face' or something like that!''The white wolf argued back.
The red fox chuckled as he replied with a smirk.''But, it wouldn't be the same then, Whiteface.''The lupine threw his arm up in the air, signaling that he had given up.
''Hopps! Come get your fox here!''If Nick was here, then most likely Judy would be close by. Not wanting to have another breakdown because of a nickname that he didn't like to hear and wasn't appealing to his ear. He began to walk away while hearing a chuckle coming behind him.
''C'mon, Whiteface! Don't be like that!''Ignoring the red fox, he entered the bullpen and closed the door behind him. He didn't want to hear those nicknames again, he ignored some of the stares that he was receiving. He took a seat all the way to the back. As he sat and waited for roll call, he took out his badge and stared at it. This badge…It was a start, even though he was hesitant to apply, he somehow got through the background check and got through the academy. The more he stared at it, the more he started to think. It's already been a month, and the only noteworthy thing he has done is paperwork, and patrol other than that none. He was even assigned to a case yet…The good thing is at least he is making a decent income to feed himself, and pay off some rent that he needed to pay. That at least eased his mind in a bit, he didn't have to worry about going hungry.
Putting his badge back, he already saw that the bullpen was already full! He then noticed the hippo got to position, and the sign was made.''Atten-hut!''With that everyone stood up and watched Chief Bogo entering the room going over to the wooden podium. The other officers began banging the table with their paws, some began to make some noise, and that would include some small howl to which Gary did not follow suit. He would rather just stand and wait for the buffalo to order them to sit down. To which the buffalo did order to sit down.
''Alright, shut it!''The Chief now reached the podium and placed the files on it,''Now, I will get straight to the point. I have a few items on the docket today! For the first item, we have some reports that a few street racers tearing down the street with their reckless driving! Snarlov, Higgins, and Wolford. I am assigning your team to this!''And with that, the three mammals under those names took the file from their chief. As multiple names were being called, Including Hopps and Wilde, they got a case of stolen jewelry by some store names: Tiger's Eye Jewelry Store.''And for our final assignment! Officer Albus, Patrol Duty! Dismissed!''
The wolf watched Bogo leave the bullpen. Why did this not surprise him? Almost every mammal in this room has an assignment regarding some thief or reckless driving and he must deal with an assignment of patrolling the area. This is the 30th day already, and he was still doing patrols. The wolf took a deep breath and exhaled. He stood up from his chair and walked out of the room. He greeted the cheetah on his way out of the department. Luckily, he had a vehicle of his own. He checked his equipment. Tranquilizer gun, Extra sleeping darts, his flip phone, a badge…Yep, He has all his things ready and set. Stepping into the vehicle, he started it up and drove off.
''Time to get this day started…''
