The Adventures of the Hope Squad: Season 1: Green Light Lab (Part 1)
I live on… an interesting world. My world is filled with heroes, villains, aliens, wizards, and much more.
But there is a lot of stuff that not many people know, things that are hidden and buried deep. The Green Light Lab is a great example.
You probably never heard about them, right? Yeah, that's what I thought.
The Green Light Lab is one of the greatest scientific corporations in the world. Every time the press asks to them about the inner workings, the scientists explain how much effort, research and technology they put on their projects of making the world a better place for humans, animals, and plants.
Why you never heard about them? Well, they are pretty discreet, and they always hide behind greater corporations, like Lexcorp and the Way… anyway, it doesn't matter.
They take advantage of this description to hide all of the futuristic devices they have, and all of their immoral and vile experiments.
How do I know all of that? Well, the Green Light Lab has a project of recruiting prodigies to work for them and live at one of their centers of operations. This way, these brilliant minds would already be 'working for a greater future with their brilliant ideas' from early on their lives.
And, well… I am one of these prodigies. My name is Harry. I am on the blue ranking and my codename is Indigo. What does all that mean? You will understand it soon enough.
I have been on this lab for almost 4 years, and ever since I started working here, I found out a lot of different things. I saw with my own eyes how… horrendous they can be towards people… what they did to my best friends is something I will never forget .
Now that you understand the kind of leaving torture this place is, the story can finally begin.
The Green Light Lab's halls were a lot less colorful and lively than one would expect. The walls were filled with shades of grey, white and black.
The only exception were the green circles that were responsible for the illumination. And yet, it was pale lime-ish green that only made the atmosphere more morbid.
Some of these hallways were where the dorms of the prodigies were located.
Well, 'dorms' was a strong word to use in this situation. They looked more like the hexagons of the honeycombs than proper bedrooms.
The entrance to the rooms were hexagon-shaped holes, and the inside of the room only had a mattress on the ground, and a desk for the prodigies to work on their individual projects.
Some might be wondering if they have any privacy. The closest thing they have to privacy are force fields that can be activated on the room's openings that soundproofed the dorm.
On this living situation, as you can probably guess, most prodigies lost their passion, joy or hope. But one of them was different.
Harry still had the strength to smile, even if he hated his current life.
At that moment, he was in his room, sitting on his desk, finishing his latest project. It was probably one of his greatest inventions ever.
"And done! After months of working on it, my Elemental Whip is done!" the blue prodigy said with a smile, happy to have finally finished such a big creation.
Carefully, he pressed the buttons on the handle one by one. Each time he pressed a button, the whip glowed with different colors.
The Elemental Whip had the ability of freezing, heating, unleashing gusts of winds, and covering itself with electricity. Each one of these options had a signature color.
"Hopefully, this will be enough to keep my head on my neck" he said with a sigh, while letting his smile fade.
These individual projects that the prodigies created were really important for them. These projects were evaluated on a semestral science fair, where the scientists were either promoted to a higher ranking… or were punished if the project wasn't good enough.
Now that he finally finished the whip, it was time to put it on his drawer with the blueprints.
His relief was short-lived, though, because there were already two adult scientists out of the room looking at him.
"Young Scientist Indigo, your presence is required on hydroelectric generators room" a male scientist said. He was tall, even if his bad posture made him look average, and used a green uniform. His codename was Moss.
"Immediately" the scientist at his side completed. She was slightly shorter than him, and her uniform was blue with some green tint. Her codename was Teal.
They were respectively from the Green and Blue ranking, the two highest rankings of the entire organization.
The scientists of the Blue Ranking had a lot of privileges, like organizing their own projects, giving rules to scientists that were lower on the hierarchy, access to some restrict information and more. For prodigies, though (like in Harry's case), the privileges were reduced and less evident.
The Green Ranking ones were those above all the others. They knew about everything that happened in the inside of the lab, gave orders to all the other rankings, took care of the secret and more important projects, and controlled the direction that the lab was going to.
The young scientist sighed, and nodded, knowing that they were ordering him, not asking.
