...
Percy's day was absolute shit until he met the Annabeth girl.
He had started him morning by slamming his fist into his alarm clock, breaking the snooze button, and sleeping in an extra 30 minutes.
oops
He put on clothes, showered, brushed his teeth, then went down for breakfast in under 7 minutes. Don't ask him how he did it- he didn't know either.
He checked the fridge, only to find no food- except butter and some olive oil. Now, Percy wasn't a picky eater, but he decided that the food choice was not really his favorite meal, so he skipped breakfast.
He ran to the door to catch his first job of the day- walking dogs. He tripped over something in his living room though- his stepdads foot.
He pace planted, but if that wasn't bad enough, his Step-dad woke up.
A little background check on the whole step-dad deal.
Percy lost his mom in a car accident two years ago, and it was his own fault. He was 14, and his mom thought he should start learning to drive. He started out of their apartment complex driveway, and everything was going good, but then.. the mailboxes appeared out of nowhere! Percy swore he hadn't seen them.
He reversed into the mailboxes, then got stressed and accelerated forward strait into the highway. He rammed into the side of the car in front of them.
There was a slight chance they might have been fine, but a huge semi was zooming down the highway. It smashed into the little Toyota Percy was driving, and flipped on it side- crushing several cars.
The Toyota Spun and flipped multiple times before stopping upside down.
You see, Percy's mom, Sally Jackson, didn't have her seat belt on. Percy looked over to where she was, and his heart stopped.
Her back was bent in an unnatural formation, and her head... her head was crushed under the passenger side door.
Percy passed out after that and was in the hospital for days, but he never once drove a car again. The only time he sat in the drivers seat, he had a panic attack and couldn't breath.
Percy wasn't the only one who blamed himself though. Sally's husband, Gabe Uligio, hated Percy more than life could bear it seemed like. This morning shows just how much.
After Percy tripped, Gabe woke up. you see, Percy may have passed with a few yells from his Step- father, but you see, Gabe had a bad hangover from the night before. His beady eyes snapped open and he barreled out of his chair before Percy could even get up properly.
He walked over to Percy and pushed his head down to the floor again. Percy groaned, and Gabe finally spoke.
"Was that a sound you just made you little son of a Bitch?" He growled
The Step-father kicked his victims side harder than expected (He used to be soccer player) and bashed Percy's head a little on the top.
"Think again before you wake me up, now get out of here before i really hurt you."
Percy wasted no time.
He flung himself out the door and raced to the animal shelter where he would begin his long Saturday of working. Little did he know, his work schedule was going to drastically change that very day.
...
He began his first job as he usually would. He checked out the six dogs he would walk that day, writing how long and where he was walking them.
Ever since he could remember, Percy loved animals. And unlike most people, he loved his job. And everyday, school or not, he would check out six different dogs and walk them for two hours.
He would usually walk them to the park, where he would let them sit in the sun for a bit.
He did this today, and sat down on a park bench, and tied the leashes to it. Little did he know, his knot wasn't very good.
The dogs did one little tug, and they were free.
Percy didn't realize the dogs were missing until it was too late. He glanced around and BOOM realization hit him hard.
They could sue him and get him homeless! Gabe would murder him!
He frantically started searching the park, and stopped abruptly when he found his first dog. He was so relieved, he almost forgot about the other five. Hel ooked down and then realized he only had one!
uhhhhhh! he groaned, why hadn't he tied all the leashes together?
He ran around for hours searching for the lost dogs.
He found three, but couldn't find anymore. After about two more hours, he started to walk back to the shelter.
Better to tell them what i did rather than hide, he thought
While he was walking, a cop car came strolling up to him.
"Hey! Have you seen a teen boy walking some stolen dogs? Hes like 16, has dark hair?"
Percy looked up. Was that him? he was 16, and he did have dark hair. But did his employers already call the cops on him? because he was a few hours late? They didn't even call- oh shit! he left his phone at the park! How stupid could he be?
The officer seemed to notice that the boy he described was standing right in front of him- with three dogs.
"Wait! Your him! Your a thief, your underare-"
"Officer, please, i can explain!" Percy tried to plead.
The officer replied by getting out of his car and pulling out his gun.
A gun for this? really?
Percy wasn't proud of what he did next, but he was frantic, okay?
He dropped the leashes, and the dogs sped away.
oops.
Percy spun around the cop and looked where to run.
He didn't find anywhere to run.
He tried to look for a cab.
He didn't find a cab.
He saw a wide open cop care right in front of him... no, he thought. i wont.
He did.
oops.
He jumped in the car, slammed the door shut, then put his foot on the gas.
Remember when i told you he got a panic attack the last time he sat in the drivers seat and couldn't think straight? Well, he didn't notice the car was in reverse, no, he didn't notice anything.
He slammed into the car behind him, the realizing, put the car in drive, and drove between the lanes of traffic.
He figured he would be followed in a matter of seconds, so he tried to think of his available options.
I could turn myself in.
I could ditch the car and run.
He decided to choose the second option.
He zoomed to who knows what street and made turns nobody had ever made- he found it kinda fun until he remembered why he was doing it.
He heard sirens in his head.
No- those were real sirens.. following HIM!
He turned his head to look how far they were behind him... not too far...
BAM!
He had crashed into a brick wall on full speed.
Oops.
for a few dazed moments he just sat there, confused- before the sounds of very close sirens jolted him out of it.
He fell out of the car and stumbled for a few feet before sprinting away.
Percy had never ran so fast in his entire life.
He ran and ran and ran until he absolutely had to stop, then he ducked into an ally way. He sat there for a few minutes catching his breath, and then... sirens AGAIN! he picked himself up then started running again until he found himself in apart of the city he had never been in before.
He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't realize what had happened.
He had come face to face with a cop.
Now you couldn't be more surprised than Percy when the cop didn't arrest Percy on the spot, and just said
"What a nice day it is huh? Man i wish i could take a jog like you" He chuckled. " But i mean, look at me," He patted his bear belly." i wouldn't make it half a mile!"
Percy couldn't believe his luck, he forcefully smiled
"ye-yes sir, its a-a very nice day today."
The cop found nothing unusual about Percy
"Hey do you know what all those sirens back there are about?"
Percy's heart missed a beat
"I heard its about a- an ice cream- um, Burglar."
An Ice cream Burglar? He groaned on the inside. How stupid could i be?
The cop must've been very trusting.
The cop chuckled heartily, then his radio turned on. Percy couldn't breath, he took that as a sign to leave.
"Well officer, looks like you have lots to do, ill just continue my run then!" And he started to jog, not wanting to make himself seem suspicious. Burt then, after again hearing sirens, he thought screw it, and started sprinting again.
Percy sprinted until he found another ally way to hide in. This time, the ally had a fence in the middle. He jumped over that and waited, crouching.
...
Percy didn't expect to find anyone in the ally way with him, but especially not a pretty girl reading a book!
He had just jumped over the fence when the girl screamed at him for interrupting her reading
Wow, he thought, this day could not get any weirder.
He jumped up, half scared to death thinking she may be a cop, when he saw her.
To say she was pretty would be an understatement.
She had Golden blonde curly hair pulled back into a messy ponytail, With striking grey eyes that practically stared into his soul.
He only wished they weren't giving him a death glare.
he heard sirens again and hid on the wall across from the girl waiting for them to fade- after a few minutes, they did.
The girl asked him what he did to make cops chase after him, and honestly he didn't want to tell her, he didn't know if she was a snitch or not. But, he thought that any girl that pretty, would never snitch. So he told her the truth.
He thought that she would be scared of him or something- for thinking he was a criminal, but instead she gave him her name.
"I'm Annabeth Chase."
Wow! he couldn't believe his luck today! (In both ways of course.)
"Percy Jackson."
"Well Percy, what did you supposedly not steal?" One of her eyebrows arched.
"Um, well... I um..lost the dogs i was walking for the shelter you know? And um... they thought i stole them." He didn't really want to tell her how he stupidly stole a cop car and crashed it.
"How long they been following you?"
"Um... around three or four hours"
"What? Do you not live around here or something? She asked, obviously surprised- she had a cute surprised face.
"No i live on the other side of the city, near Goode High."
"Oh, i just moved here so i don't know where that is." She gave him a small grudging smile.
"Oh.." He didn't really know what to say, he was kinda mesmerized at her beauty and found himself staring at her.
"How long you gonna hide here?"
He hadn't thought of that. If he left the ally, he might run into another cop car- and not get so lucky this time. and his apartment was hours away, and much longer by walking.
She seemed to see his situation.
"Well, listen," She looked nervous. "I- I don't know you, but i'm gonna trust you, okay" She gave him a half smile. "My house is like a little bit away, and you can hide out there if you want." Now she looked really nervous.
Wow, people were getting nicer and nicer everyday!
"Actually?"
" i mean, sure. but you would have to sneak in through my window, because my parents cannot know." She gave a lot of emphasis on cannot.
" i.. i mean sure if your comfortable with that, i swear to you i'm not a criminal, today was just a huge misunderstanding!" He was actually really relieved. And honestly really exited, here was the prettiest girl hes ever seen, inviting him to sneak into her house!
Stop! he thought, You cant think like that.
She nodded and began to walk away. Percy began following her after a few confused seconds.
Around half an hour later, they stopped in front of a medium sized townhouse, when Annabeth looked at Percy with a sneaky smile, that made Percy glad he followed her.
