Even if he was certain Morticia was the most intelligent one in this relationship - and potentially in the house -, Gomez considered himself quite a reasonable man. Or at least he did until the hours ago.
Mr. Addams had celebrated yet another anniversary with his querida Morticia and he had got her gift just right, judging by her surprise and utter delight at the sight of the dark book covered in ancient Egyptian symbols that marked the Book of the Dead. A hard piece to find, but, for his dearest, he would go to the ends of the Earth.
His mistake was to try and assume anything from his darling wife, assuming she would savor the reading through the days and nights to come, ignoring completely the possibility of her being so enthralled with the book that she would do little else than read it.
Had he not seen the look on her wonderful features he would have regretted his choice as soon as the sight of the dark-covered item in her hands as she lay in bed got to him. The woman seemed to want to have it read from cover to cover before the end of the week.
Gomez found his place at her side, studying her for a moment with a lingering and earning glance. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it, considered for a while before finally speaking up in a quiet tone: "Good night, Cara Mia"
He turned away from her and was about to call it a night when he heard the book close and his eyes opened.
"Thank you, darling," she said.
He frowned and turned to face her, finding Morticia at his eye level, lying on the bed, book closed on her bedside table. "What for, dear?"
She grinned, "For the lovely gift. Also, I haven't failed to notice your effort not to disturb my reading"
Gomez swallowed, "You seemed to be enjoying yourself, I wouldn't want to get in the way of that"
Her smile grew, her hand found his cheek and she placed a kiss on his lips. "Aren't you sweet, mon chér?"
His eyes widened, "Querida, you know what French does to me!"
She bit her lower lip and moved closer to him, accepting his kisses with a wide smile.
