Sooo heya everybody! I know I haven't posted for a while now and I am sorry for that. I do thank the person who gave me my first comment but I am really sad that none of the others wrote a review l_l

"Miss Sophie Elizabeth Foster!" Mr. Sweeney's nasal voice cut through the young girl's music as he yanked her earphones out by the cords. "May I ask why you aren't paying attention in class?"

Sophie opened her heterochromatic eyes. "I am sorry Mr. Sweeney" she mumbled wondering if it was possible if she could make the shadows curl around and hide her without anyone noticing, instead she just pulled her blonde mid-waist length hair in front of her brown and red eyes.

This was exactly why she wore dull colors and lurked in the back. It was because Sophie had anxiety and depression.

"Then why were you listening to your iPod instead of following along?" said Mr. Sweeney as he held up her earphones as if they were evidence of crime. Though for him they probably were. He had dragged Sophie's class to the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park because it seemed that teachers just couldn't seem to get it in their heads that unless the dinosaurs didn't come back to life and started eating everyone nobody cared but oh well.

Sophie was getting suffocated by now and did not like how they were staring at her. Well the stares wouldn't have scared her if their mental voices weren't so…..well, scary.

Yup that's right – it has been Sophie's secret since she was five and had hit her head. Add that to her looks and you know the answer.

She was a freak.

She could her people's thoughts and, after a very scary panic attack, had found out that she could control shadows.

So as the class went to next room Sophie didn't follow. She was panicking too much and needed to stay away from familiar faces as long as she could.

Across her she saw a young boy who looked near her age reading a newspaper with her picture on the front page.

'Oh right, that thing' thought Sophie. A few days ago Yale had offered her a full scholarship but she had turned it down immediately as she could barely manage to get through school while being the only 12 year old in the entire high school and the same at a prestigious university. Nope, she was getting a panic attack just thinking about it and some nosy newspaper thought it was worth writing an article over it.

She got such an anxiety attack that her younger sister played her keyboard half an hour straight just to calm her down. Her parents immediately called the newspaper firm after that and the chief seemed as upset as her as the first page was supposed to about arsonist setting fires across the town. Bizarre fires with white-hot flames that smelled like burnt sugar took priority over everything else.

The boy smiled and pointed at he pointed at the newspaper. "That you?" he asked.

Sophie slowly nodded. She was very wary about strangers.

He then looked into her eyes and frowned.

'And here we go' thought Sophie. She had a bizarre case heterochromia and albinism combined together. That meant one of her eyes was red while the other was brown.

"I didn't realize your eyes were so…"

"Weird, ugly" she suggested.

"I was thinking along the lines of unique actually"

"Oh" Nobody had ever complimented her eyes before. She was about to say something when a sharp burst of pain caused her to wince.

When she finally understood the age group of the thoughts she almost sighed. Children of the age group of 4-9 tended to have very loud thoughts.

She remembered she was not alone and as she looked at the boy she saw that he looked in pain as well.

He….couldn't have heard that, right?

Wait a second.

She…..

…couldn't hear the boys thoughts at all.

"You heard that?" the boy asked.

"You are an elf" Sophie whispered.

The boy's eyes widened "How do you…"

"She was right" Sophie continued as if he hadn't spoken.

The boy looked around "Why don't we go somewhere more…private?" he asked.

Sophie simply nodded and asked him to follow her. She led him to the forest where she had met her.

"So I guess you know already but I am going to tell you again" he took a deep breath.

"Sophie you are an elf."

"I know"

"Yes you already told me that but how"

"I am sorry but I cannot tell you that I made her promise she wouldn't and it is only right if I don't either"

"Then…I am afraid you have to come with me earlier than planned Sophie"

"That is fine by me. My family won't be worried as I sometimes leave earlier without informing anyone due to some…emergencies"

"Okay then" He took out a pathfinder and held out his hand.

Sophie took it without any hesitance.

"Let's go shall we" was all the boy said before thay disappeared in a beam of light.

Yeah so this Sophie is gonna be like us regular Gen Z kids. Ya know depressed, anxiety etc. etc..
