What happens now?
The young Princess couldn't sleep. It was way to warm for her. Even though the windows in her room were wide open she felt as if no cool air came into her room. Which was unusual considering the fact that the nights on Whisperia were normally not that warm. Deciding it was no use to keep trying to fall asleep she got out of her bed and quietly made her way out of her room.
The halls of the palast seemed to be much bigger in the middle of the night when it was dark and none of the servants and other palast workers were rushing through them. Without making much noise she passed the rooms her younger sisters were sleeping in. Looking out of the windows she could see some guards on patrol. They were talking, probably about politics. Of course she couldn't hear them but it seems as if that was everyones favorit topic nowadays so the young girl just assumed that's what they're talking about.
Her father, the king, sadly passed away almost two years ago leaving his second wife Medora in charge of Whisperia. Medora is a tall women in her early thirtys. She has beautiful long brown hair that is slightly curling at the ends. Her dark eyes seem to be able to see through everything. She is a very pretty women but she has a horrible temper and is an even worse monarch. She doesn't seem to care much about the people living in the whisparian Kingdom. What she cares about is power. That also makes her a horrible mother to her two daughters and her step daughter.
Completely lost in her thoughts the young princess was passing through one of the main halls when she suddenly heard voices behind one of the massive doors. She wasn't sure how many people were in the room. Immediately she was able to identify one of the voices. The princess was sure she could hear the voice of her step mother. And it sounds like she was arguing with someone.
'…please be reasonable Medora. Isabella might be old enough to start the training. Even if eight is still young and her powers have not yet completely developed. But her sisters ? Your daughters are four and six. And both of them still show very little magic….'
Medora interupted the woman and said in a rather harsh voice
'I am aware that both my daughters are very young and that you would rather wait for them to show some more signs, but I am sure considering that my step daughters powers come from ice, Dakota will be able to control the darkness and Stephanie will someday cause hurricans and thunder storms all over the magical dimension. I know I am right about this. You have to believe me sister. Mandragora please you have to believe me ' She sounded desperate.
'What if you are wrong. Do you have any idea what's going to happen to us should we decide to take them in now, teach them everything they need to know to succeed and it turns out the three of them are not who we are looking for. This mission is way to important to be messed up because you so desperately want to believe the three are the reincarnation of the ancestral witches.' The woman, Mandragora, who is apparently Queen Medoras sister, replied. She doesn't seem to be affected by the desperation in her voice.
'Mandragora is right, your highness. We should wait and see how things develop. We shouldn't rush things. For now let us keep an eye on them. We can decide on how to proceed when all of us are certain what we are dealing with.' A male voice said. He sounded familiar to the young princess.
Isabella, or Icy as her sisters called her, couldn't believe what she heard. The princess was still outside listening to every word being said. 'Reincarnations of the ancestral witches?' she muttered to herself. Icy knew who these witches were and what they did. She has been taught about them by her teachers. A couple years ago they erased whole magical dimensions and destroyed planets looking for power. But Icy couldn't believe that she and her sisters were supposed to their reincarnations.
While the young princess stood there, trying to listen and to understand what was happening behind the door she didn't hear someone quietly approaching her until it was too late to hide.
'Izzy? What are you doing here?' A voice whispered almost directly next to her startling the young girl.
'Are you crazy. You can't just scare me like that.' Icy turned around and recognized the other person 'What are you doing here? How did you get inside the palast?' She questioned the boy.
' I think my father is in there.' He answered pointing at the door 'I heard him leave and was wondering where he wanted to go in the middle of the night so I decided to follow him. And to answer your other question one of your guards outside was nice enough to let me in.' He was sure to put an emphasis on the word 'nice'.
'You mean, you, a ten year old boy, bribed our guard?' Icy wanted to clarify
' I mean..well yes…kind of…It was fathers money' the boy said smirking
'Really Darko. You're seriously admitting to the princess of whisperia that you snuck into the palast in the middle of the night by bribing one of our guards.' She tried to sound intimidating
' Oh..is that a bad thing? You're not going to turn me in right? Because from my perspective it seems you are tecnically not supposed to be here either.' He doesn't seem intimidated by her
'Ok. You've got a good point. I couldn't sleep and heard voices in here. Did you know Medora has a sister? Mandragora. Stupid name if you ask me. Seems to run in the family' Icy turned back around and tried to listen through the door
Darko laughed ' What are they talking about? Scoot over I want to hear what's going on' He asked and tried to understand what the voices said as well.
'Have you heard of the ancestral witches?' Icy asked
Darko nodded 'Who hasn't. Why?'
'Medora believes Darcy, Stormy and I might be their reincarnations. She wants to send us away for some sort of training. ' Icy replied trying to avoid Darkos surprised stare. 'Now be quiet I am trying to understand what they are talking about.'
'But…' Darko started but was interupted by a loud voice behind the door frightening both children.
' I don't care if you think otherwise. I am the queen of Whisperia. Not you. I am. And if I tell you to start training the girls it is not a simple request it is an order.' Medora was practically screaming and Icy was certain it was heard all around the castle
'I don't think that is what King Inaros wanted for his daughters…' The male voice she recognized from earlier, apparently Darkos father Mazakis, replied
'Well he isn't here to share his opinion is he? Mandragora you and the coven are now responsible for the girls education and training. Bring them to Obsidian. Make sure they reach their full potential. The consil is over.' Medora ended her speech looking both Mandragora and Mazakis in the eyes before turning away making her way towards the door. She is almost at the door when Mandragoras voice cut through the air
'If they are not what you believe them to be my training will kill them and if my training doesn't the coven will. I am aware of your negative feelings towards Isabella but are you really willing to risk your own daughters existance because you are impatient and unwilling to wait until we are certain they inherited Belladonnas, Liliss' and Tharmas powers.'
Without turning back the Queen gave a surprising answer 'Yes I am. I know I am right about this. If it really turns out they don't have the witches powers they are of no use to me….Oh and Mazakis I really think you should consider sending your daughter there as well. I have heard quiet a lot of rumors about her. Apparently she might have some pretty strong powers herself. How old is she again?'
'Addy just turned five, my Queen. And yes she has shown signs of magic but under no circumstances am I going to let her anywhere near Obsidian. No sane parent would ever let his or her child go to this place.' Mazakis replied confidently not breaking the queens gaze. He doesn't seem scared of her.
Medora slightly laughed ' Of course Mazakis I should have known you would have a different opinion about all of this. I think it is time for us to part our ways. You have always been loyal to Inaros and I think I should find someone who is loyal to me. You know…Someone who doesn't disagree with all of my plans. You understand that, right Mazakis?'
Without waiting for a reply the queen made her way out of the room.
On the otherside of the door Darko was barely able to drag Icy to a safe distance so that the queen wouldn't see them. Icy knew Medora never liked her and the feelings were mutual but after the revelation that Medora was willing to send Darcy and Stormy into Obsidian as well, with the knowledge of them possibly not coming back, was the last straw. Icy was furious and Darko had a hard time keeping her from bursting through the door and turning Medora into an ice sculpture.
They barely made it into a dark corner when the door opened and Medora walked out, a satisfied look on her face, that only made Icy want to curse her even more. Icy didn't even notice how the temperature suddenly dropped and little ice crystals started to form on the floor at her feet. The sudden change made Darko look down. He noticed that Icy had been sneaking around barefoot.
'Izzy, let's go. You need to calm down before you do something stupid. Come on, I'll bring you back to your room . We don't want you to catch a cold or something' Darko said making sure they were alone before putting a hand on her back and slowly walking her back to her room.
'How can you stay so calm? She just fired your father and threatened to send Addy to Obsidian. What are you and your family going to do now? What if…' Icy didn't even finish her sentence before Darko snapped at her 'Will you please be quiet. You have bigger problems. Medora plans to send you, Darcy and Stormy to Obsidian and you are worried about what is going to happen now that my father lost his job. I'll tell you what he is going to do. He will get a new job somewhere else.' Surprised by Darkos sudden outburst both of them continued their way towards the princess' room.
'I don't want to go to Obsidian.' Icy said quietly after some time. She didn't even notice they had reached her room already.
' I don't want you to go to Obsidian either.' Darko answered 'I am sorry I shouldn't have snapped at you liked that.'
'No, you're right. I have bigger problems.' Icy agreed ' But you could've said it in nicer more respectful way.' She tried to light up the mood by pretending to be hurt that he snapped at her. 'I am still a princess' She continued and playfully punched his arm before she got serious again. 'Do you think it is possible…I mean….you know….that we could be somehow related to the ancestral witches?'
Darko didn't immediately answer. He looked like he was searching for the right words. 'I don't know…..maybe…you are an ice witch and Belladonna was one as well, and let's be honest Darcy was never a fan of daylight and Stormy loves Thunder and Storms. Your nicknames really do fit your personalities. I do think they could….maybe….. inherit Liliss and Tharmas powers…Hey where are you going?' Icy heard enough. Of course she was aware that the chances of them being reincarnations of the ancestral witches were pretty high and that could be Medora right . And everything Darko said about Darcy and Stormy was true. So she turned away not even waiting for Darko to finish his sentence and made her way down the halls again. Walking away from her room. ' I'm going to wake up Darcy and Stormy and we are going to leave.' She said confidently.
'Wait…What…No, I don't think that is a good idea, Izzy. I admire your confidence….but your eight. And Darcy and Stormy are even younger. You can't just take them and walk away thinking Medora will just let you. Even if you should by some miracle make it out of the palast to some far away city….what are you going to do?' Darko tried to keep up with Icy.
'If we don't leave we will be sent to Obsidian and who knows what will happen there. I'd rather take my chances and try to escape this hell before it is too late.' It appears as if Icy had made up her mind. ' There are hundreds of stories about Obsidian. Not one of them ends good. It is a dark place. People change if they stay there too long. There is absolutely no way me or my sisters are going there.' Icy reached Stormys room and quietly put her hand on the doorknob. Before she could open the door Darko stopped her.
'No,' He said. Icy was about to say something when Darko continued. ' go wake up Darcy. I will wake Stormy.' She just stared at him not knowing what to say. ' Wh ..What?' Icy stuttered
'You are right. None of you should go to Obsidian. When Medora mentioned Addy should go there…..well….I would do anything to not make that happen, even if that means taking my sister and bringing her far away from here. So…yes I am going to help you…I may not have any magical powers but I know how to get out of the palast without being seen.'
She has always been a light sleeper so as soon as her door opened Darcy opened her eyes. Surprised to see her white haired sister in the doorway she asked 'Icy? What are you doing here. It is still dark.'
Icy quickly entered the room and quietly closed the door making her way towards her sisters wardrobe. She picked something out and walked over to her sister who was watching every step of the older girl ' Here...I want you to change into these cloths...do you have a bag here somewhere?' Icy wanted to know.
Darcy nodded, stood up and reached under her bed, pulling out a backpack ' Are we going somewhere?'
'Yes' Icy replied taking the bag and walking back over to the wardrobe. She started to fill it with some cloths when she looked over to her sisters bookshelf 'I have a question for you. If you had ten seconds to pick out three of your favorite books, which would you pick?' Darcy just finished putting on her pullover and confusion crossed her face. Still she walked over to her books and picked three of them giving them to her sister, who put them into the backpack.
'Icy where are we going? Why are you being so quiet? Are we playing a game?'The six year old has always been a quiet child. She liked to observe people and ask questions about things she didn't understand and right now she didn't understand her sisters behavior.
'We are going on a little adventure, ok?' Icy looked at Darcy who nodded ' When we go out of that door I want you to be really quiet and stay very close to me, can you do that?' Again, Darcy nodded, walked over to Icy and took her hand. ' Is Stormy coming too? We can't go without her right? Do you think she can be quiet?'
'We are going out now. Remember to be quiet.'
Taking her sisters hand Icy opened the door and made sure the halls were empty before going towards her youngest sisters room. Darko already stood outside and he had Stormy in his arms who seems to have fallen right back to sleep after he changed her cloths and packed a small bag for her. She was slightly snoring with her head on his shoulder.
'Hi, Darko. Are you coming too?' Darcy whispered excitingly. ' Icy said we are going on a little adventure. '
' Icy also said we have to be quiet!' Icy gave her sister a look before looking at Darko. ' Did you pack her bag?'
'Yes. We should go to your room now. You need some things as well.'
Once Icy packed herself some cloths she went over to her bed and grabbed a box from under the bed. She opened it and took out a necklace with a blue crystal she received from her father only two months before his death and put it in her bag.
'Let's go' Icy said putting her sisters backpack on before taking her bag and her sisters hand and following Darko through the halls.
The four of them made their way through the halls. Darko didn't lie they have not been seen by anyone. Suddenly Darcy tugged at Icys sleeve getting her attention 'Stormy is awake' and indeed their youngest sister had her eyes open but instead of looking at her sisters she looked at the floor smiling and pointing at something. ' Bug ' A tiny little bug caught her attention and she was following it with her eyes when out of nowhere a second bug appeared next to it. Then a third and a fourth.
'Something is wrong' Icy said before chaos erupted. Thousands of tiny little bugs attacked them, some of them were even flying. Stormy was screaming, Darko tried to shake of the bugs and Darcy was covering up her head while Icy tried to freeze some of the tiny beasts.
'Well look who we have here. You must be the three little witches my sister wants to get rid of. And the boy..mhhhh..let me guess Mazakis son..Darko right? ' A female voice said. Through all the bugs neither of the four could see the person, but both Icy and Darko recognized the voice from earlier. Mandragora. 'Well, I only need three of you, how nice of you to have already packed your bags.' Mandragora laughed.
Before anyone could run away, Mandragora lifted her hand and Darko fainted, Icy could see the witch walking towards Stormy who was still screaming
' Leave her alone!' Icy shouted. She still held Darcys hand and tried to shoot some ice at the older woman who grabbed her youngest sister by her arm. Completely unimpressed by the ice thrown at her, Mandragora walked over to the remaining to girls. ' We are going to have a lot of fun together ' Everything went black.
'Noooo...' Icy sat up in bed. She was breathing heavily and drenched in sweat. It took her a minute until she remembered where she was. Magix. A few weeks ago Bloom and the rest of the Winx defeated Valtor. Fortunately she and her sisters were able to escape without being seen. Right now they were hiding in an apartment which belongs to Darko Black. Apparently Mandragora only knocked him out all those years ago and didn't kill him like Icy thought she had. They had met a couple times while the Trix where still attending Cloudtower.
Addy ,Darkos sister, found them after the battle and told them they could stay here. It was one of many apartments Addy and Darko bought incase one of their jobs went wrong and they needed to hide. After Mazakis had to leave the royal court of Whisperia he decided to move to Magix and become some sort of mafia boss. After his death both siblings decided to takeover his job. Addy being skilled at magic has ever since been able to erase all the links connecting them to any sort of shady business. She also put up all sorts of protection spells around the safehouses.
Darcy and Stormy were still sleeping in their beds. For a second she was worried she had woken them up after waking up from her nightmare. Thankfully they were still sleeping otherwise they would probably ask her thousands of questions and Icy wasn't sure she wanted to answer them. She wasn't even sure if the two of them even remembered that day and she wasn't very keen on opening old wounds.
Quietly Icy left the bed and went into the living room. She opened one of the windows, grabbed one of the books from the shelf and sat down on the couch. She knew she wouldn't fall back asleep.
