Author's Note: I am Handicapped with Aspergers, Dyslexia, OCD, ADHD and a whole lot more so please bare that in mind if my spelling is off. I use spell checker. I also have a slight mental disability so please excuse any mistakes. I do the best I can with writing these stories and trying to post chapters. Also, I am a very sick person so there will be periods where I don't update. But ALL my stories will be updated eventually.
Also, when I come up with a story idea, I can't stop myself from writing it down and posting it. I literally can't sleep to I have written it down. So that is why there are so many stories.
At the moment I am having problems with my brain chemistry and it is hard to write for my older stories even through I know where they are going. So please, please hang on in there. I haven't abandoned ANY of my stories. But with my brain chemistry problem and my Mum's deteriorating health everything has been crazy.
Happy 31st Birthday too me! Also, Happy 57th Birthday to my Dad!
Enjoy!
Introduction
D'Artagnan had been getting attacked while his Brothers are away. But when they come back everyone believes their brother is dead. Even Treville. Now they must hunt his murder. But things are not always what they seem…
Yes, This is another of my Shadow of Miracles part I like to add.
Maybe a few short chapters…We'll see...
Chapter 1: Death of D'Artagnan
D'Artagnan didn't know why. But he had been getting attacked nearly every time he had left the Garrison. His Brothers had left him behind because of a concussion. Even told him to stay out of trouble. But they should know trouble ALWAYS finds him. Ever since he was a little boy he had been in some form of trouble.
He had a whole other life his Brothers didn't know about. And he didn't attend for them to find out about it. But at the moment with things how they are he might just have to let some things slip.
But he had a gut feeling he wouldn't exactly get a chance.
Treville knew that he was getting attacked. But they both knew besides him staying at the Garrison 24/7 or being Guarded there was little he could do. But he had told D'Artagnan to stay at the Garrison for as long as his Brothers were gone so when they got back, they could deal with it together.
But things rarely happen easily for him.
As Treville had just been summoned to the Palace. D'Artagnan had been brushing his horse when two Red Guards come into the yard.
Making everyone around get on edge as Red Guards coming in here didn't mean anything good.
"D'Artagnan you are to come with us", the Red Guard says.
"And why is that?" D'Artagnan asks his gut screaming at him.
"The King wants to see you", he replies curtly.
D'Artagnan just had a bad feeling about this. But he had little choice.
"Let me saddle my horse", D'Artagnan tells them.
They nod and wait outside.
"Jacques", D'Artagnan whispers to the stable boy.
"Yes?" the boy asks nervously.
"Tell Captain Treville about this as soon as he comes back. I have a bad feeling but I can't refuse if this is real", D'Artagnan replies putting on his saddle.
The boy nods, "Do you have to go?" the boy asks worriedly.
"Yes. And send a message to the Shadows let them know what is going on", D'Artagnan says cryptically, "And that...", he whispers the last bit in the boys ear.
Jacques nods, "I'll see it done immediately. May God be with you"
"I think I am going to need all the help I can get", D'Artagnan mutters swinging himself into the saddle.
He had a few bruised ribs and a twisted knee from his previous attacks, but he managed. He follows the Red Guards out the gates of the Garrison giving off a confident look to everyone that saw. Nobody could tell that the youngest Musketeer was feeling like he was going to his doom. All they saw was the confident and strong Musketeer who was the youngest ever.
D'Artagnan notices they were not going in the direction of the palace. But he keeps his mouth shut. He needed to know who these guys were. His hand slips into his belt and pulls out two throwing knives and the other hand had his pistol drawn.
If they were going to attack or if this was an ambush, he was going to go down fighting. He wasn't Athos's protegee for nothing and he wasn't the Shadow for nothing.
Suddenly they turn into a deserted corner and that is when IT happened. Men jump out at him. He shoots one that was going to land on him and his two knives were thrown and hit there mark like they always did when he was throwing knives. (Not that his Brothers knew that).
But he was still thrown from the saddle and flinched as he heard the snap of bones in his body as he was pushed from his saddle and landed heavily with his foot caught. His horse Buttercup rears making his leg scream as he felt a popping motion. He shakes his leg free with effect and sweat drips from his face as the pain was starting to get to him. And that had NEVER happened before.
He draws two more knives and throws them hitting the jugular of one man and the chest of another. Before he was overwhelmed.
He was thrown into the abandoned building with a silent gasp.
D'Artagnan looks up in a daze as men come from around and he knew he couldn't give such large numbers a proper fight with his current injuries. But he draws his sword and dagger and as they descent on him he gives them a few well aimed marks to cut 3 more of the men down.
One slams his foot onto D'Artagnan's already broken leg making D'Artagnan's back arch in pain. But not a sound left his lips. They kick and punch him.
A woman stabs him in the hip and side but he twists at the last second and hopes it would be enough to save his life.
"That is for ignoring my attention. I am the prettiest girl around!" a familiar voice says.
"You were AND are crazy", D'Artagnan gasps out vaguely recognises the voice, "At least I know how Athos feels"
She slams her foot into his side.
"See there Shadow of Miracles you have been taken down and now everything will fall into place", a voice tells him.
D'Artagnan vaguely recognises that voice but due to his injuries he couldn't place it. But they had called him Shadow of Miracles that was only the title he used when he was…
Damn.
This WAS bad.
Very bad.
"Now you will BURN like we did!" the evil voice crackles.
And then all D'Artagnan heard and smelt was the crackle of the flames and the smell of smoke. He groans feeling like he was going to die in this inferno. With nobody here to know or help him.
He wondered how his Brothers were going to take his death.
Would they blame themselves?
Of course, they would!
But it would NEVER be their fault.
As this was HIS past and HIS secrets that were killing him now.
Why didn't he make a different call back then?
Fire a fitting way to die if the voice he heard was who he thought it was. They also wanted to make it as painful as possible for him.
Hence the beating and attack.
That also now prevented his escape as there was no way he could walk out of here of his own will.
He coughs, "I am sorry my Brothers", he says as the smoke as getting to him, "Please God don't let them blame themselves"
As his world goes black, he thought he saw the shadows of the flames moving towards him.
Towards his death…
(Line Break)
The building was well alight by the time Captain Treville and several Musketeers arrived. It was a burning inferno and obviously had some help getting to this stage.
"No", he whispers.
Sabastian comes over and holds out a dagger and pistol.
"Sir", he says sombrely showing him the dagger and pistol, "There was a pool of blood and a trail leading into the building. But it looks like D'Artagnan took down several men before he met his end"
Treville recognises the pistol for one that Aramis gave D'Artagnan and the dagger is something Athos gave his protegee.
"This is where…", Treville gulps knowing one of his best Musketeers besides the other Three Inseparables was now likely died inside that inferno.
And besides having to tell the King that his favourite Musketeer had perished he would have the harder task of telling the Lad's Brothers and keeping them from drowning in their grief.
The seven Musketeers bow their head knowing one of their Brother had perished this day and they did nothing to prevent it.
How were they going to tell his Brothers?
How could you even begin to explain that they had failed to protect their Youngest?
The Inseparables were due back any day and they weren't going to ride into the yard to see their Younger Brother smiling at them.
Smiling at them.
And that broke the hearts of the Musketeers gathered. As they knew the Inseparables were going to maybe damaged beyond repair and they might go into self-destruct mode.
"Help put out the fire. We need…we need to recover the body", Treville tells them.
The Musketeers nod sombrely.
But they all knew Charles's D'Artagnan had perished in the inferno and they all prayed he took as many of his attackers down as possible.
And that he had the mercy of not being awake as the flames engulfed him…
(Line Break)
In the Shadows across the street and on the rooftops surrounding the building. Men and Women watched the Musketeers and the people start to try and put out the fire. As they tried to get to one of their own.
But these Men and Women knew that they weren't going to succeed.
That would be impossible for a number of reasons.
But one thing was for saw…
Charles D'Artagnan had died in that building…
But the rise of…
