Among the Stars
Chapter 1: Separation
Space. While known for being the home to various living creatures, was currently host to a battle. Floating in the depths of space, a humanoid being was covered head to toe in metallic armor. It was sleek, almost form fitting, plus a helmet with a semitransparent, rectangular visor.
He was fleeing. A battle had been waged in space, and his side had lost. Any moment now the nearby black hole would engulf everything that remained of the battle.
*Screeeeeeeee*
He turned to face the source of the sound. Three creatures with serpentine bodies similar to a snake, but with bat like wings, charged at him. They were fast. They would catch him.
He turned to fight. Clenching his fists, a blade of energy formed from his suits gauntlets. As the first creature approached he charged to its left, cleanly slicing through its wing, crippling it's movement. The other two attacked in unison, forcing him to evade by flying upwards. As he flew upwards, he felt something collide with his back. A quick look revealed the first creature spitting blobs of acid at him.
With no time to think he charged the first creature intent on finishing it off, but the other two were quickly upon him. They were fast. One of the creatures clamped down on his left arm, destroying the fighters left blade in the process. This move would come at the cost of its life. Using his other blade, he cleaved the creature in two.
Turning quickly, he charged again towards the crippled one. Dodging another bile of acid, he cut the creature down the middle. Now only one remained. As he looked to face his remaining opponent, a horrifying sight greeted him.
They were shaped like boomerang, and small, no bigger than a human fist, but there were hundreds of them. Many fleeing, but some coming right at him. They were too fast. He cut as many as he could, but they collided with him. The smaller creatures acted as suicide bombers, exploding with great force. Try as he might, all he could see was red from the agonizing pain.
…
His vision slowly returned to him. He couldn't move, his suit was too damaged. It was a struggle to stay awake. He felt another force being exerted upon him.
The black hole.
He was being pulled in. There was nothing he could do. Lamenting his inevitable death, he closed his eyes, and let unconsciousness take him. Among the debris and corpses from the battle, he was pulled into the black hole.
Rosalina was many things: skilled at magic, the only human on her observatory, and the mother to the lumas. However, she was also the guardian of this universe. She has seen many things throughout her tenor as guardian. Many suns and stars being birthed, dying, and beginning anew.
But standing on the ledge of her observatory, something felt off. She couldn't explain it. Eventually, her feeling would be confirmed.
"Momma, momma!"
Three small lumas flew down to her. They all began talking at once, making it difficult to understand what they were saying. She raised her hands.
"Please, calm yourselves." The lumas did as requested. "Now then, one at a time, please tell me what's happened."
The first luma spoke up, "We were looking around a small planetoid for some tasty starbits when,"
The second luma jumped in, "This weird looking hole appeared in space."
The third luma continued, "And a bunch of weird stuff came out!"
This was perplexing, she needed to make sure they weren't mistaken.
"You're all certain? Something came 'out' of the black hole?"
The three lumas nodded in response. After thinking it over, there was only one logical course of action.
"Please show me."
Upon reaching the area, it certainly appeared as if something had happened. The area was full of various metals and debris from ships, and what could have been foliage at one. A quick look with untrained eyes would reveal nothing but space junk floating aimlessly.
Rosalina's eyes, however, were far from untrained. As she floated around the area with the three accompanying lumas, she looked through everything that came into her view. Mostly ship parts, but these ships must have been very large. She also spotted broken parts of organic life, what it once was she didn't recognize.
"It appears that something certainly happened here. What occurred I can't say, but this area is certainly large enough now to warrant a name...Space Junk Galaxy seems to obvious, but somewhat fitting."
She turned to face the lumas, but noticed something immediately. There were only two lumas. She immediately called out,
"Little luma, where did you go?"
No reply. She was a bit worried now.
"Both of you head back home, I'll find our missing luma."
Both lumas nodded, "Okay momma," and replied before flying off.
Rosalina began her search. Looking through asteroids and more debris, she searched for her lost luma. She noticed a few small black holes starting to form. As she began to fear the worst, she heard a voice cry out.
"Momma, come quick!" She turned to the voice, and saw the lost luma, now found.
Rosalina sighed a breath of relief, "Thank goodness, do you have any idea how worried I was about you?"
The luma looked sad for a moment before quickly perking up, "I'm sorry momma, but I found someone floating in space, he looks hurt!"
Someone floating through space? An odd occurrence to be sure, but if someone in space was in need of help she would take action.
"Please take me to him, quickly!" Rosalina would help them.
The luma guided Rosalina to an area teaming with blocky debris. There, floating almost like a puppet with its strings cut, was a human figure in armor. She flew to him, and immediately checked if he was alive.
While obscured, it appeared whoever was inside still lived. Using her magic, she formed a protective barrier around him. She turned to the luma.
"You've done a great job bringing me to him. We must bring him back home and tend to him, quickly."
With that, Rosalina and luma returned to the observatory with great speed.
Once Rosalina returned to her home, she placed her rescued guest on one of the couches outside the library. She had to check the extent of his damage first. He was head to toe in armor, and everything from his waist up looked to be in terrible condition. His legs didn't look as bad, but that wasn't saying much.
She quickly found the latches around the helmet and joints in the armor, and started to disconnect everything. First his helmet came off. He had a youthful appearance, that of someone in their mid to late twenties. Short silver hair, an unusual color to be sure, but no time to dawdle.
She opened up the chestplate next, he wore a tank top, while it may have been white at one point, there were many red marks on it that garnered her immediate attention. Looking up, she noticed many lumas were gathering around to watch.
"One of you please fetch me a bucket of warm water, someone else the first aid kit in my bedroom and everyone else bring me towels, quickly!"
As the lumas flew off to acquire the items she requested, Rosalina took off the armor on his right arm next. Nothing too bad, minor cuts, and some bad bruises. Next was the left arm.
"Oh my-!" Rosalinas voice left her. His left arm wasn't there, it stopped at his shoulder, which has some mechanical parts built into him. Looking to the armor she just removed, she noticed how much heavier it was compared to the right.
"An armored prosthetic," she said aloud. She placed the arm down and continued to his legs. Removing the armor around the left leg, it looked red and swollen. Infection maybe? She would check later. Removing the right legs armor revealed-
"Another one?" His right leg ended at the knee, everything below being made up for by the armor. At this time, the lumas were starting to return with the items she needed.
"Okay," she said to herself, "let's take care of our patient."
